Was excited to take this one off the bucket list. The greeter never activated the electronic pager so we waited well over an hour until we asked why everyone went in front of us. Ordered an appetizer that never came out till after our burgers where served and it was under cooked. Burgers where good but you can't get them medium rare. Usually these places that get famous drop off in quality...but my experience other than some disinterested service was just fine. The pound burger was excellent...they cooked it medium as asked. On June 3rd went to Denny's Beer Barrel Pub with 5 other family members to have lunch, everyone got something different on the menu was pretty good I would give them 4 stars for food and cleanliness,service as fair little busy didn't seem like enough servers working at the lunch hour rush. Go to pay bill with credit card didn't notice till got a chance to check credit card statement that the cashier added a $10 tip on my receipt after leaving one at the table for her. Called the business 3 times since to let them know and pretty much was told I should have put an X in the tip area, or 0 with / through it, or now by the owner tells me that I should have put tip is on the table in that area. Why should I have to do this it tells me that they must not be trustworthy, will never go back not worth it or the aggrivation. read more

If you are not familiar with area can be a little tricky finding especially at night. After long day of driving decided to get takeout and got the dry rub wings. Can honestly say they were best I have ever had. Also tried the jumbo roaster spicy. While they were good next time would just get the dry rub. Well I have ate here 2x with my family. The food was great both times. The 1st time we had excellent service. The second time was the worst service I had ever received in my 41 years on Earth. There was so many problems with her I am not even going to start because my rant would become a short book. One thing that annoyed my husband was the 1st time we went to Denny's he ordered a crafted draft beer and it was $6.00 a glass. The second time he ordered beer off of the same beer menu all beers are the same size but not the same price. There are not prices on the menu. He was surprised we he found out his draft was $10.00 a glass. We are well travelled so we have paid premium prices for draft beers before but for this area we where surprised by an expensive,priceless beer menu printed on just a plain piece of paper. Although the 1st we went to Denny's was Awesome!!! The 2ed time was so bad we will not return for fear of having really bad service again. The food was great but my husband and I are also good cooks. We went to Denny's Beer Barrel Pub in Clearfield tonight. We've been here several times and each time it has gotten progressively worse culminating in tonights disaster. We waited 45 minutes to be seated tonight and then walked out. There were empty tables and an entire section of closed tables while many folks were waiting nearly an hour. When I asked the waitress about the seating she gave us a snotty reply. We were standing at the entrance near the kitchen and it was one profane comment after another coming from the cooks. The host stood behind the bar doing nothing for 15-20 minutes ignoring the patrons that were waiting to be seated. We tried to call the manager after we left and nobody would pick up the phone! We left and will never go back to this place. This is one of the worst restaurant experiences that we have ever had. The personnel were horrible and definitely the worst of any restaurant we have ever been to. Do yourself a favor and skip this one! read more

I've eaten there once with my husband and upon my second visit I took my two boys. The eldest wanting to try the burger challenge before he deploys for the U.S Air Force. The youngest being 7 years old and a special need child. So he required accommodations to be able to enjoy the restaurant. The waitress's literally refused to accommodate the seating that my son required! When I asked for the manager, she said the owner wasn't in but that was his policy! I called to speak with the owner 3 times without success and left three unreturned messages. What kind of establishment has policies to refuse to accommodate and serve disabled patrons! read more

Food isn't good. Nice beer selection IF they even have the beer they have listed. Service is slow. My sub roll was stale. Was charged $4 just for a 6" roll with cheese. My wife and I drove nearly 3 hours to your establishment because we hear how wonderful the burgers were. When arrived there the server went to seat us but when we asked if we can be seated at another table then server moved us and just threw the menus on the table and muttered something unpleasant. Another server came and our order and things seem better from there. Our order arrived and after we tasted our burgers it was not worth the trip there. The burgers were not cooked to order and were dry. The fries were okay but needed some salt on them. When we received the bill I noticed that we were charged extra for the lettuce and tomato when the menu said it comes with it. All and all I would not recommend place to anyone the staff was unfriendly and somewhat rude the whole time we were there. We are always looking for a good burger and this place is not one of them. The management needs to teach its employees to properly greet and treat its guest when they arrive. I guessing people come from all around to try one of the challenges but being rude and unpleasant to your customers are not going win any loyalties. read more

We went there on Saturday August 21st. We are from North Carolina and actually planned to go there! We had seen it on the Travel Channel! First of all, our waitress was horrible! She didn't get our drinks right, (only 3 of us) an unsweet tea, root beer, and some specialty beer my husband asked for. Then she acted pissed with us because we said we didn't get the root beer. I got a pizza burger, my brother did a 2lb challenge burger, my husband got a brisket burger. NO FLAVOR WHATSOEVER!!!!!!! It's like they took the hamburger right out of the pack and slammed it over the heat! Gross, they could really use an introduction to some Lipton Onion soup mix or some kind of spices! While I agree with most about the atmosphere being nice, the food is most certainly not! I've been invited to dinner there several times over the last year and each time was an extremely disappointing endeavor. Regardless of what you order, come on a full stomach because you will be hungry again by the time your food arrives, usually cold and well over cooked. On my last visit I had a med-rare filet which on a slow day took 45 minutes and arrived medium well with no seasoning whatsoever. The same story with the burgers, seafood and pasta. There is nothing I've found on their menu that was any better than anything I've gotten from a fast food chain. Simply put, if it wasn't for the giant novelty burgers this facility would no longer be in business. If you're looking to sicken yourself with 2 lbs of flavorless beef, by all means dine at Denny's, but if you would like your food to taste like the extravagant menu prices suggest, shop elsewhere. read more

Service was good, ambiance at noon was okay. I don't know for sure but I think they put Liquid Smoke on their burgers, judging by my stomach's reaction for the next several hours. The kaiser role was dry and kinda tough. Also, there is NO FREE WATER!!!! Really guys? Bad decision on the part of management. Prices are plenty high on the food without charging us for bottled water. And since the water is bottled, you get charged for a refill! I'll pass on future visits to Denny's. Took a trip to the gun shops in clearfield and had to stop at Denny's beer barrel pub. I ordered the PA beer barrel burger. This had great flavor. The topping were braised in beer (mushrooms, bacon & onions). The sandwich was great. My friend had the torpedo burger. He stated that it was one of the best sandwiches he ever had. The service was great too. The waitress never let our glass go empty and she kept checking on us to see if we needed anything. I live 2:30 away from Clearfield, PA and it is worth the trip. I cant wait to go back and try other menu items. That burger was very good. read more

I live in Clearfield and avoid this place like the plague! All the burgers are cooked well done, my guess would be because of hygiene concerns with the poor quality of burger "Meat". Service is almost as bad as the food. If it were not for the gimmick challenge burgers bringing people in this place would have been out of business years ago! Although the burgers are delicious the potato skins are not. They were more "skins" than potato. I could count the bacon bits on each one. yes, bacon bits. There was barely any cheese too. I asked for more bacon and cheese to add to my skins. After spending $120, because we had a large party, the waitress charged us for the extra cheese and bacon and for the 3 ranch sauces for dipping. Basically, go to Dennys the atmosphere is neat, the burgers good, but beware of APPITIZERS and REVIEW YOUR BILL to see what you were charged for. The Turkey Rachel (reuben) sandwich & fries & slaw - delicious! Generous portion. the $5.99 piece of Guinness chocolate cake, however, was dry and without flavor - clearly old. Don't get seated near the restrooms - the noise is unbelievable! Impossible to talk, and embarrassing. Otherwise, atmosphere is great! Our waitress was disinterested and slow; however, it was a holiday weekend. Overall, will definitely return and enjoy...remembering to avoid overpriced dessert and get a better table. ;) read more

I'm a 30 year resident of Clearfield. Don't believe all the hipe. This is the worst place you can eat at!.No bull! Ever since Denny's Beer Barrel Pub aired on the food network The food has all gone downhill! The burgers are the worst ever along with many other items on the great big menu. It taste freezer burnt or it's dry and hard or smells and taste bad! Try it if you don't believe me. I have certainly tried to find something good on their menu over the years,also hoping they finally improved their food! If you decide to try it here anyway? The positive: The chicken wings are very good but it's the only item I have tried that is good even if they come out warm. Try eating before you drink alcohol because its the only way I can understand why this restaurant can get more than 2 stars..People get drunk before eating. Or they don't eat and only drink. I'm not a drinker but have heard they have many different kinds of beer including imported..Again I have only heard about there beer selection. The food quality Is my personal experience along with seeing and hearing my friends and family in our group telling waitress that their food taste bad! The first thing you may notice is that they remodeled the bar and seating area and is very nice! May wait a bit as everyone ignors you standing there at the "wait to be seated sign." Also, if you want water it's a 1.75 a bottle. Just keep in mind that they will nitpick every little thing you order and may be a surprise when you see it on your bill so ask before ordering!! We decided to stay in Clearfield based on how awesome this place was supposed to be. We were promptly greeted and we asked for a seat where we could see a tv that had the Patriots game on, we were told that the TVs are preprogrammed, and cannot be changed, which is fine. We ended up at a small table for four where all four of us could see the Patriots game via 2 TVs that we're supposedly "preprogrammed" to the correct channel. All was good. The people next to us left, and that table was much bigger, we asked if we could move to the larger table as we planned to spend a few hours ordering apps, drinks, and watching the game. We were told no, that they needed the bigger table for people that were waiting. Two minutes later they sat a party of three at the larger table. Even though that was frustrating, we still wanted to stay, so we ordered a second round of drinks and apps. A few minutes later, amazingly enough, the menu came up on the "preprogrammed" tv, and the channel was changed to a different game. We watched the bartender use the remote to change the "preprogrammed" tv. I went out to ask the bartender if we could move to the bar area where there are more TVs, and we would all be able to watch the game, we were told no because 2 of the people in our party are kids. Again, we understood and I went back to our tiny table. Then our waitress came back over, my wife asked if one of the other small TVs that nobody else in the room could even really see could be changed so that she could see the Patriots game, again we were told that they are all "preprogrammed" and could not be changed. Lies, lies, lies. Anyway, we got our check, paid, and left. Terrible service, pretty good food, food was served fast, and so were a bunch of lies, multiple times, even after we knew the truth, more lies. The best thing on the plate was the pickle, it wasn't even that good. I'm thinking it was on tv for having a big burger, not a good burger. We were told by two locals to try it if we wanted the best burger we had ever had. Wrong. They were both wrong. McDonald's has a better burger. We were seated by a not so friendly, un-happy young man in the way back of the restaurant. He didn't offer us a booster seat or high chair for our 1.5 year old child. Server was average. I don't drink soda so ordered a water with lemon. "We have bottled water only". Brilliant, really. Another way to overcharge your customer, which, they are REALLY good at! Want to build your own burger? Sure! Get whatever your heart desires. Start with your meat, pick your bun (for $1.39, a bun isn't even included?!), then your toppings (lettuce for .39?) I ordered the black bean burger and my husband a bacon burger. The bacon was the pre-cooked thin version. It was about half eaten and not very tasty to say the least. My black bean version was even less edible. It was tasteless and looked disgusting. The fries were marginally edible and barely warm (we tried the regular and sweet potato). The bottled ketchup and mustard on the table was good, as it was Heinz. Bottom line? If you want a 15 lb burger, this is the place for you. If you want to eat more than two bites of your food? Not a great day today for our party of six at Denny's. After our half hour wait, we were squeezed into a table ideally for four people. We had our elderly parents with us and had to accommodate canes and such. My daughter and I both ordered chicken salads. After another seemingly long wait for the food, the waitress said the chef made steak salads instead and asked us if we'd want to change our salads to steak instead. My daughter can not eat red meats. We requested to stick with the chicken salads. As the rest of our party ate their meals, we waited on our salads. Finally she brought the salads saying the chef made new ones. Well, my daughter started eating her salad and could tell there was a coating of grease on the lettuce that tasted like steak. She tossed around the lettuce and found pieces of steak along with chicken in it. She told the waitress she could not eat the salad. We requested the salad be removed from our bill and the waitress stated that the cost of the salad would be deducted from her pay. I feel we were lied to. If management would make the waitress pay for the chef's mistake, that's wrong. Also, it was quite obvious that someone picked the steak off and threw the chicken on. Very disappointed. I read some of the previous reviews and most people were annoyed that they don't take reservations and they don't allow custom orders from their menu. First thing is this is a Bar/Restaurant and has limited seating, so no reservations is understandable. Customizing an order is strange, if there is something on a dish that I won't each, I won't order the entree. As far as quality of food, remember that this is a Bar/Restaurant, if you want Fine Dining, this is not the place for you. I've had their burgers and fries which I found large and pretty darn good. I was pleasantly surprised with the size and quality of the Wings! I got an order with 18 wings, great sauce and plenty of Blue Cheese on the side. They were a little pricey for Clearfield 12.99 for wings and 2.49 for a bottomless Diet Pepsi. But the prices are the normal price for what lunch costs in a bar. My server was Shelly. She was very attentive and was right there when I wanted a soda refill or plates taken away. She was pleasant, professional, and obviously experienced. My wings came out in minutes and were awesome. Burgers were big and better than I expected. I stop here whenever I am in the Clearfield area. read more

We have been to Denny's several times,having lived in the area quite a while, and have had similar issues as others with not being able to order food as you like and rude staff. We tried to take our family to Denny's tonight for dinner. We drove from Altoona, Kane and DuBois PA to meet up there. Walked in the door and the young lady that 'greeted' us at the door actually sighed and said "I will have to check with her, (whoever 'her' is), because we're at capacity." The place is relatively large, with a big back room that was not even open, and several tables were open as well. When "she" came over, she told us there was a 45 minute wait because they had 3 parties that had reservations..... as you can see by this site it clearly says they do not take reservations so we had not attempted to make them. There were 8 of us. We would have been willing to split up and sit at separate tables, that was not an option offered us. The conversation from both young ladies was very rude, impatient and quite unfriendly. We left and went for pizza where we had a warm welcome and decent food made the way we ordered it. Will be a while before I want to go back here. read more
