It's very unfortunate that one person can cause such negativity to reflect on a restaurant. I went to Denny's this morning for breakfast very early and as I walked in I was not acknowledged by the lady that was standing at the counter. Finally I was acknowledged by another lady who came from the back of the restaurant she was a very very nice lady. The lady that was standing at the counter, Elva, never looked up, never acknowledged me, never showed any signs of respect at all. After breakfast as I got ready to leave and pay, Elva was at the cash register. Again Elva never looked up never acknowledged me, never said hello never said thank you. Elva showed NO signs of any customer service training and should not be employed in service industry. The food tastes like any other Denny's. The only problem I had here was the service. They seemed short staff which is understandable. Janeth our server was nice considering it was just her and the cashier (Courtney). Janeth did forget to bring me my fruit bowl, but was apologetic about the situation. I was Unot asked if everything was ok or if i needed a refill. Again, I believe this place was short staffed so i truly believe I would have gotten better service if they weren't short staffed. I always give a place a few tries before I make a decision on whether or not I like it. This particular Denny's is easily the worst of it's group in the Monterey area. Most of the time it's the server completely ignoring the table, and I don't mean over seated- I've been there multiple times where my table and one other were the only tables occupied in the entire restaurant and the server will deliberately avoid eye contact or looking in the general direction of the tables. We waited 45 minutes from being served just to get their attention for either something as simple as a refill, something wrong with the order or just to get the check. Every time I've been there actually I have to go up to the register and try to get someone's attention, for I have yet to actually receive a check at the table at this location. Today however, I waited well over the acceptable time to be seated while people are rushing by me completely ignoring my existence, and a group of guys come in behind me and they're seated immediately as the server walked directly past me and seated them first. This could not have been a mistake for me waiting to pay as I was I was in the actual "wait to be seated" area and not near the register. Guys, there's another Denny's about a five minute drive away right on the edge of Downtown Monterey that may not be gangbusters when it comes to service either but is easily leaps ahead on the score board when compared to this one. read more

I have visited this Denny's from time to time and it is what it is.. The service mediocre as well as the food.. However on March 18, they dipped to an all time low.. I sat down and waited to be seated a good 15 mins.. Finally across the dining room the waitress flagged me and motioned me to seat my self.. Im not a coffee drinker but a bit chilly outside and inside i sipped a cup waited to place my order a good 20 mins to no avail. The restaurant has a total of 7 tables at best they are ALL eating when low and behold the place goes BLACK!! There was a Whoa! That went thru the small crowd and then we wait.... And wait... And wait.. I thought for sure they would have said something.. Anything! What no generators?? Finally I walked over to the waitress and asked her how much for coffee and i was floored as i stood there in the dark as she shined her phone flashlight at my purse to get the $2.62.. Great service and actually fast for a really busy Denny's. Got here around 10:30 ish and placed my order within 7 mins and got my take out and left around 10:50. The Food is the normal Denny's food but very clean place and excellent service. It's been a while since I've been to a Dennys restaurant for breakfast but I was also impressed with the menu selection. I overhead a customer complaining about running out of avocados and did not ask for tomatoes. The Manager was very accommodating and gave her 25% off her meal. read more

Visited this location on Labor Day in hopes to start a Labor Day tradition with my family. Let's just say we are not visited this Denny's again. It was busy, as you'd expect for a restaurant to be on a holiday. We knew this, didn't worry too much. We get inside, sign up for the waitlist, nothing too long - okay we think, this is good. Get seated 10 minutes later, not that bad, we're making progress. After we are seat it just goes down hill from there. Traditionally when you are seated this gives you the inclination that your server will be with you soon - WRONG. We waited 20 minutes for our waitress to finally stop by and even begin to take our DRINK ORDER. That is the amount of time it should take for a person's food to be made. I have worked in the food and restaurant industry for years and while that gives me great understanding and consideration because I know what it's like, it also gives me a measurement of what should actually be done and how it should be - promptly, politely, and to the guest's satisfaction. None of these factors were accomplished during the entirety of our visit. After taking our drink order it takes her another 10-15 minutes to make an appearance to our table to get our order. Mind you, the table next to us was seated AFTER us and has already order 5 plates of food and finished and is getting ready to leave in the time we are barely ordering ours. Logic? Absolutely none. I don't know how they assign tables/servers but that system better change fast if I have been at a table longer than my neighbors and they are fed and out the door far before I even see my food. A half an hour passes and by this time I'm livid but trying to keep my calm as to not disrupt this attempt to a family outing. We finally see our waitress and ask her where the hell our food is. Apparently we were behind 2 other of her tables orders, which happened to be decent sized groups. Okay, well when do you think our food will be coming? "I don't know, after theirs." REALLY? At least give us a time-mark so we can at least we informed. She had no idea what she was doing or how to handle the situation, or serve for the matter. Left with no help or guest accommodation. We finally see the general manager helping bus tables and we ask if we could get our food, and at that point are just done. He says we can leave without paying for our drinks (thanks, for the free waters which are already no charge). I usually like eating at Denny's, but eating here made me rethink. The service was okay I guess but once I had ordered my blueberry pancakes I found a hair in it, yes a hair. That just totally ruined my appetite and to be honest made me gag and almost throw up. They did ask me if I wanted them to make another set of pancakes but I refused not wanting to find another piece of hair in my food. Given that I'm not a huge fan of Denny's to begin with, this place is always packed and at least a little dirty. If you're really craving some Denny's, head to the one on North Fremont. This is the worse restaurant I have eaten at in years.. plain and simple, the night manager (kept his name tag covered) also was cooking on Saturday October 8th at 7:30 pm fucked with our food.. we originally ordered a simple biscuits and gravy, scrambled eggs, sausage links and a milk to go.. we got back to our room and found out they gave us chicken fried steak, hash browns and eggs.. no problem, we took it back and told them there was a mistake and they insisted they gave us biscuits and gravy.. we opened it up and all they could say was "well I don't know what happened" and made us a new order.. we get this back to the room and the order was correct, but the food was fucked with.. the gravy was pure salt and grease.. this was not the gravy they use.. we had it the night before and this didn't even have the sausage in it.. they threw this together out of spite.. we took it back and demanded the manager who turns out was the cook.. all he could say was "well maybe we misunderstood how you wanted your order", there was no misunderstanding, the fucking little twit just fucked with our food.. we will be reporting this to Denny's headquarters and filing a complaint with the health department. read more

I asked for the manager and she said "well she just left." I said oh you mean she just went to that party right there? She said well... Yeah. so I asked for her name and store number.... DISGUSTING!!!! From the food to how the employees treated me. I've been to plenty of denny's around the US and this one hits even lower than rock bottom. I arrive don't even get offered to get seated, the waiters and cooks were to busy having coffee talking on the counter when they clearly saw me waiting, jeez can't you at least say hi??? Finally i just go grab a menu and seat myself. The waiter finally attends me at the table and takes my order, I couldn't believe how snarky she was being and little did she know I understood spanish when she started talking bad about me with the employees calling me names like tonto, idiota, JOTO, I bared through it though. When my food finally arrived my eggs were cold, pankcakes were stale like they were put through a microwave, and they never even asked to refill my drink. I'm not the type of person for confrontation so i payed the tab and tip and left very disappointed in what i thought was only supposed to be a quick breakfast at 2am.
