I'm from Los Angeles area and I can vouch that for some reason, central California has way better breakfast than we do in So Cal! That being said, amongst all the best breakfast spots around for miles, for me - Toastie's really takes the #1 badge!! I plan my visits and stays, strategically working in Toastie's. That's how much I love it here. You can't go wrong with any of their breakfasts. The potatoes are exceptional though, as are their amazing banana pecan pancakes. Honestly the best I've had - ever. The breakfast here is excellent! We had the Olliaberry (sp?) pancakes, eggs, sausage, potatoes and toasty. Everything was well made. The potatoes were a bit crispy on the outside and soft on the inside and well seasoned. The pancakes were top notch, fluffy and the berries were sweet-tart. The only reason I did not give 5 stars is the service. No coffee refill, in fact no one checked on us. The server seemed annoyed to seat us and deliver our meals. We were there on the Monday after Easter at 10:30 am or so, the place was not busy but no one seemed to be checked on either. 5 stars if the service improves. read more

One of my go-to's in Pacific grove for breakfast. I don't live there anymore, but when I visit family I check this place out. I always get their calamari steak and eggs (served as you'd like). This is a classic cafe serving to what it feels like to me- home food. It's mellow. Diner-like almost. And a warm cosy, atmosphere. I'm from Monterey County in me and my sister decided to do a "Staycation". So we decided to venture out to Pacific Grove. I do know a lot of restaurants since I have worked in the food service industry for longer than I want to talk about. I've heard good things about this place so I decided to try it out as we walked in. We didn't even know if it was open or closed, but the door was open. We walked in. It was totally silent, except for some talking in the back, the server assistant was nice and seated us. It was just very eerily quiet. So right then in there, the vibe was off. But hey, we'll give it the benefit of the doubt. My little sister wanted French toast so she got that my other sister got the traditional eggs Benedict and I got the French toast with an egg and sausage. I tasted the eggs Benedict sauce. It was cold and very chalky. I myself did not like it, but I wasn't eating it. Come to my French toast and sausage. The sausage taste like it was cooked three days prior and the French toast had no taste whatsoever!! Not butter not the cheap watery syrup that's warm. The server had no personality. She wasn't friendly or hospitable. It was super quiet in there no music nothing you could hear the kitchen staff talking to the wait staff. Seeing how I work in food service coming in at seven in the morning when they've just opened and their food is not fresh really surprises me. How do you serve cold hollandaise so that means you got it out of the refrigerator you didn't make it fresh. I would not recommend this place whatsoever. I would've been happier with Denny's. Toasties is in DT Pacific Grove. We stopped by after playing golf at Spyglass in nearby Pebble Beach. They offer bfast & lunch in a casual setting. I had the Mediterranean salad w/ chicken (up charge). Three friends ordered sandwiches and one ordered bfast. The salad tasted very good, and the amount of chicken was good vs the up charge (I believe its $2). In addition, the produce was fresh. Nonetheless, the portion of salad vs the price was high IMHO. Our waitress was super nice and hardworking. She handled our table of 5 w/ no problem. All in all, a very positive experience. Love this place. Just happened to find it by accident last Sunday. We were seated right away and the staff was helpful and friendly. It's a busy little local place... I ordered the corned beef and it's made from scratch served with potatoes and toast. It was so delicious all corned beef will be now judged by their standard. My husband had their waffle with a side of bacon and egg. Both were excellent. It's a quiet and clean establishment and if you're lucky to have a window seat, it adds to the ambiance. This review is only based on the veg omelet I had on a Monday am. I found it to be unappealing and bland tasting. We've had the potatoes before and they've been done perfectly but this time there were some that were overdone and some underdone. I didn't care much for the coffee (but I'm used to Peet's), either. I have to say it's totally on me for ordering the wrong thing. The Benedicts looked delicious and I'm sure the French toast and pancakes are as well. Next time I will get one of those! The waitress we had was efficient but not very friendly but the other waitress was very chatty with the next table but they seemed to be locals, so that seems natural. There was a lot more seats and room than it looked like from the outside. We were seated fairly quickly, only had to wait about 5 min. The servicer was quick with getting to us and our food was out in no time. My California Scramble was really good, not too heavy and just the right amount of fillings (tomato, avocado, cheese, bacon). The side of bacon was cooked perfectly for me, nice and crispy! Classic diner with breakfast and lunch options in a small, but cute town? I'm in! My friend and I came here after visiting Monarch Butterfly Grove and we were allured by all of the pretty murals on the walls outside. We chose to sit outside, where it was empty, but our servers were attentive towards us the whole time. The servers were friendly and made us feel comfortable. There's also seating inside, as well as a bathroom. There's street parking available, which was fairly empty on a weekday. It may be different on a weekend though. We started off with an ollalieberry waffle with whipped cream on the side. What's an ollalieberry, you ask? It's the the child of a raspberry and a blackberry, adopting the texture of a raspberry, and the appearance of a blackberry. The waffle was perfect but I could go without the ollallieberry. I'm not a fan of the soft raspberry texture. After having dessert first, we ate our main dishes. I got the eggplant sandwich with salad on the side and my friend, the Philly cheesesteak with fries. The eggplant sandwich contained caramelized onions, eggplant, and cheese, which created a nice and creamy texture. The salad was standard but helped balance the heavier main. For drinks I got orange juice while my friend got a mocha, which was not on the menu. Apparently mochas are not their strong suite because she couldn't spit it out fast enough. She got creative and tried to fix it by adding in the leftover whip cream from the waffle, hah! Overall, I'm pleased with the service, quality of food, and accessibility.
