The Tap Room Prime Rib Chili is a winner! Unfortunately I tipped before I noticed the 17% automatic gratuity added to the bill.

I had lunch at The Bench a couple days ago while experiencing the 17 Mile Drive in Monterey. It is…read morelocated inside the main building of the Pebble Beach golf club. Free parking is plentiful near the Visitor Center and the walk to the building is less than 5 minutes passing by the pro shop and putting green. This restaurant is one of 3 others in that building and overlooks the 18th green with outside patio seating and inside too. Reservations are preferred but they also take walk ins which is what I did. From the lunch menu and recommendation of the waitress, I chose the fried chicken sandwich for $31 that also came with fries. I was seated inside next to their large lecture windows and could easily see the entire 18th hole from green to tee with the ocean in the background. Outside it was a little chilly (late August) but every table there had a small fire pit in its center for warmth. In about 10 minutes my food arrived. The sandwich was large and very good tasting with a large fried fillet and cabbage slaw, aoli and excellent butter pickles. Also the fries were hot salty and tasty. It was a very good lunch. Also, because I presented my gate receipt from the 17 mile drive of $12.50 I got that amount reduced off of my bill. Table service was very professional as you would expect from this very nice facility. Visiting The Bench was a nice experience with the food and views. I highly recommend!

We had the option of indoor or outdoor dining. Based on previous yelp photos I decided to try the Cappuccino and I am glad I did. Made with LavAzza coffee I felt like I was in Italy again. My husband and I decided to share the combo plate. Scrambled eggs, potatoes, chicken sausage and a homemade biscuit. The salsa that it comes with is amazing so don't skip it. The portion was large and plenty for two people. The food was fresh, and flavorful. While the food was great, I think what makes this an amazing spot is the team. Each person was attentive, very friendly and made sure everyone had what they needed. I think we discovered a new spot and plan to be back. Oh and I love that they have a sign out front about providing a sandwich even if you can't afford one.

The meat was in cubes with veggies & a white sauce. Given that information, it had no flavor. The sauce was watery & barely added anything to the dish. Similarly, the chicken pot pie was incredibly creamy with not enough seasoning to balance it out. -Service/Staff: Despite being sat by the entryway, staff barely checked in on us to see if we needed anything. On multiple occasions, they checked on other groups around us, but not us. This was slightly upsetting as we felt invisible. -Overall: This place was just average. Nothing was particularly stand out about the food & the staff wasn't attentive during our visit. We were hopeful as it had great reviews.

10/10 must sit on the patio during sunset!…read more It was absolutely beautiful and an irreplaceable once in a lifetime experience. There's a nice outdoor bar area where you can get drinks and appetizers while waiting for your seat. Slow cooked pork belly : 20/10 must try! The crispy outside texture was perfect and the charcoal taste complemented the pork belly fat really well. Szechuan pork ribs: 7/10 Not bad, but the Szechuan flavor lacked and it tasted more like Sriracha. Half butterfish and half ahi tuna dish: 8/10 the sauces were PHENOMENAL!! I'm going to need to get their recipe for their fragrant herbaceous green sauce and the coconutty umami white sauce. The butterfish had a bit of lingering fishiness but the texture was nice with a carmelized crust and soft insides. The ahi tuna was to be expected. Watch out for the spicy wasabi brown sauce! Dark chocolate raspberry molten lava cake: 8/10 I love lava cakes and they gave us an extra cup of dark chocolate to pour on top. I wish the raspberry flavor tasted more natural though. Service: 100/10 everyone was fantastic and our server was incredibly hospitable and nice.

Everyone we interacted with was genuinely friendly, and the service was excellent. We stopped in for appetizers and drinks rather than a full meal, and everything we tried was impressive. The deep-fried soft-shell crab was definitely a standout--the presentation was gorgeous and it tasted even better. The octopus was delicious as well, and we also tried a tiger-striped roll that was almost too pretty to eat. Almost. The cocktails were great too. Beautiful setting, creative food, great presentation, and wonderful service. Even just stopping in for a few bites and drinks felt like an experience. Definitely a place I'd come back to.
