Being near a military base, it was not surprising to see many young men on their weekend break having thie breakfast after leaving the base. I wish their food could have been better, but I would imagine this is similar to the mess hall, so no complaints there. However, for an average patron, it really did not make an impression on me and seemed it all could have been better. My fish and chips tasted like it was just thawed from the freeser and the french fries looked like it was squeesed mashed potatoes into a deep-fryer. This is a busy Denny's restaurant. It is located right next to our one n only Camp Pendleton and literally just off the I 5 freeway southbound. It has a big dining area. It is in an old building ( photo) and has that old school feel to it. The menu is huge. Breakfast options for weeks plus specials and also an extensive lunch menu including steaks and salads, The coffee is served hot and frequently with half and half mini containers at the table or fresh milk in a jug by the awesome, alert and very proactive Jaisa( pronounced with an H). She took really good care of us and also the four other tables in our section. It is 2025, so do expect to pay $20-$23 for a full breakfast. 2 AM visit is always the best! No issues, and they always take care of the military with a solid military discount. It's been a minute since I've been back to Denny's, but when you need a late-night spot after the club, this place never disappoints. Had an opportunity to meet with friends, today. It was so nice having breakfast and coffee with them. A hearty meal that included scrambled eggs with cheddar cheese, bacon, sausage and pancakes. It was a delicious way to start the day.. Our waitress, Jaisa did a wonderful job keeping our drinks topped off and kindly helped us with any additional requests we had. She provided us with outstanding service. Although the restaurant was busy, the noise level was low enough to have a conversation without having to strain to hear each other or raise our voices. I hate leaving negative reviews and I try hard to find something good about a place. In this review I will find something nice to say. If I find that I have not one thing nice I can say I usually just don't review, hoping they just had the worst day at their place. But, when something is not in accordance with the law or can make someone ill, then I have to speak up. This is the worst Denny's I have ever been to in my life and I have been to about 40 of them. My grandson loves a good Denny's and I enjoy their breakfast more often than not. I know I am at a Denny's and not some fine dinning place so I know what to expect and never over expect. I know that Denny's has reasonable prices and, well, it is Denny's. But this Denny's either needs new management or something, anything, to try to get this place together. This Denny's is in Oceanside and if you are driving the 5 Freeway, there is not a lot there. Don't go there anyway. Find another place or stop at a gas station for a snack. From the outside this Denny's looks like all the others. It was clean outside with large signs saying that face masks were required, after all, it is the law. Once in, you will be greeted by a hostess who has her mask under her nose (photo attached). When you ask her to please put on her mask you will be ignored. I was. She was right next to me and I also had to pay the bill on the way out with her right next to me. I wear my mask, it is the law indoors in San Diego County. As we were being seated I noticed how dirty the place was. The floors were not clean, food on the floor and someone came in with mud I guess. I also noticed that many of the staff were either without a mask at all or had it under their nose. We were sat at a table that had not been cleaned. The dishes were removed but there was grease on the table and food on the seats and crumbs all over the floor where I had to put my feet. The table was never cleaned, we did it ourselves with napkins from my purse. A server came and was nice, her mask under her nose, but she was pleasant. She asked what we wanted to drink. I ordered coffee and when it came there was dried coffee running down it. I drank it anyway, because my grandson never wants me to send anything back. He is a Special Needs child and gets stressed very easily. So, to say the least I am always polite and soft spoken to wait staff. We ordered and our food came out 20 minutes later. I thought that is okay, it will be fresh and hot. It was cold and some was not eatable. My husband had a burger that was burned beyond well done. He did not eat but a bite or two. My grandson had pasta with meatballs and liked it very much. I tasted it and it was fine. My order came and my eggs were made as ordered and were also fine. The hash browns were undercooked and very cold in the middle. My pancakes were hard and it seems they had been made in batches just waiting to be heated up and sent out. They were the worst pancakes I have had at a Denny's. I could not eat them. I ate the eggs and drank my coffee--of course a refill was not offered. Now, I did not send anything back and that is on me. I just won't have my grandson upset. He was happy with his food, so that is fine with me. I went to the bathroom. It was not stocked. It was not clean. The floors were greasy. We got our bill, it was correct and the server thanked us. She was nice. We went to pay to the same person with her mask under her nose and I just tried to keep my distance when paying. We paid and left. We will never be back. I don't suggest this place to anyone. I was so disappointed. They could not even do the minimum. It is clear the management does not care at all. Very sad and a bad name for Denny's. read more

Different Denny's (1 of 2) Transiting between San Diego and the L.A. area, I needed sustenance, especially after leaving San Diego way past the time I had intended to leave. Some Denny's were closed or closing at this hours, but this one in Oceanside was open. It was dusk, but I suspect I was somewhere near that all too noticeable taller condo or apartment building near the shore. It sure would have been nice to see it during the day. During my formative years, I often wondered what was in this lone beachy tower. I went inside and was warmly greeted, not to mention warmly taken care of during ordering and having the food brought out. I was looking for a snack more than a full fledged meal, so I settled on a cheeseburger, fries, and coffee as fuel for the remaining 75 to 100 miles. It appeared to be some type of special. The food has that boilerplate Denny's taste. I wasn't complaining. I couldn't complain. It was just what they said it was and the price was fair. There is both some straightforwardness in getting here and some circuitous moves in getting here. If coming south on I-5, the ramp for this Denny's is easy to identify. Now, if coming north, a cluster of adjacent off-ramps with similar numbers are presented to you. Take the one that will cloverleaf you to Harbor Drive so you don't end up driving up to one of Camp Pendleton's entrances. I've gotten decent service at various Denny's in SoCal, be they in the SFV, out in the desert, and now here. This Denny's is close to the military base and I could go with the moniker "A Denny's for jarines." That's a combination of the words jarhead and marine, and is older than the hills. I'm sure they eat here from time to time. Everyone knows this moniker and rolls with it. The experience was better than I expected. It was enough to push a strong 3 - a usual benchmark for Denny's - to an entry level 4 stars. I'd eat here again. It would be preferable during the day when you can see some of the local surroundings through the big windows all around. read more

Haven't been to a Denny's in years. What a nice surprise. Clean, staff, refreshed menus with calorie counts. Greeted nicely. Seated in booth that was clean. Jennifer our server was so pleasant and hard working. She's a 5 star server. Got us set with coffee and creamers, hal n half and the. studied the menu. Ordered the Fit Slam. Jennifer delivered the order right and delivered hot and fresh! Egg whites, spinach, warmed grape tomatoes, english muffins, turkey bacon and had to get a side of super fluffy buttermilk pancakes. Seated in a timely manner, order taken in a timely matter etc. When the food came out, problems started. I ordered a simple ham and egss meal off the 55+ menu. I ordered eggs over medium. They came out yolks smashed well done rubbery things. Waited for the toast and after a few, I asked about it. Ther server came back with the "toast". Burnt black on one side and the other side was warm. I didn't bother asking for replacements since I didn't have too much time. Oh, and ham was cooked so much, felt like I was eating ham jerky. This Dennys has been in this location for as long as I can remember. I hadn't eaten here for 37 years and have fond memories of being a regular here back in the day. Today my husband and I decided to give it a try now that we're seniors, LOL. I was totally impressed with how clean this place is! The last two Denny's I've eaten at didn't come close to how clean this location is. The prices were a little surprising but I guess with the high cost of food it's understandable. I ordered the Slam Burger which is a take on the grand slam breakfast, hash browns, bacon, and eggs on the burger. The burger itself tasted so fresh. They must make their own beef patties because it didn't taste like it had been from frozen. It was served with fries or onion rings. I chose the fries before I remembered there would be hash browns on the burger. The burger and fries were great and my husband enjoyed his as well. We visited this restaurant on July 2nd 2025.. we arrived at about 8:30pm. Right off the bat the waitress was moody. Maybe she wasn't having a good day so we ignored it. We have 3 kids so I went up to pay the bill while my wife got the kids situated to leave. My son screams out "a bug!" Two roaches squirm out of the booth we were sitting in. My wife trapped one of them under a glass while I went to ask for a manager. The worker at the register said they didn't have a manager at night. So she walks over to our table to see what the problem. We told her about the two roaches. She shrugged her shoulders and told us " All restaurants have them, they are even in our homes" then she turned her back and walked away. There was zero customer service or apology. We had our baby in her carrier on that booth, our 5 year old had ordered desert to go. We had to leave it there. The whole situation grossed us out. I had to throughly check the carrier and all bags to make sure nothing crawled in because we don't have any in our home and didn't want to carry a visitor. We could have made a scene but they were numb to it, line this was their norm. We just wrote an email to their corporate office about our experience. We've been to other Dennys and have never encountered that kind of uncleanliness or lack of professional customer service. read more
