We like to stop in Oceanside for lunch when going to San Diego. We happened upon this little gem on our recent visit. The entire menu is plant based. The ingredients, including the bread, are all made by the owner. There is nice interior seating, and a nice covered patio. You order the food inside and the owner delivers the food. I had the Reuben..one of the better Reuben sandwiches I have had. I have loved Reuben Sandwiches since I was 10. The homemade bread was delicious as were all of the ingredients. I ordered the shoestring fries to go with. They had the perfect crunch with soft interior. My partner had the healthier Brazilian bowl, which came with fried plantains. He was very pleased with it. The Chicken Parm was delightful and accompanied by a generous serving of pasta, red sauce and bread. I ate it too quickly if we're being honest. Eris is truly outstanding! Scott (owner) is an awesome guy and a natural at customer service. The food is always top notch and Eris has become my favorite restaurant in the greater San Diego area. I stop by every time I'm pass through Oceanside just to say hi to Scott and try whatever new experiment he's just perfected. Enjoyed our couple visits here, and value the thought that has been put into the ingredients in the food. Met the Owner and talked for a while; he is unapologetically vegan, and stands behind his food. A couple came in, looked at the menu, and said "oh, we didn't know you were vegan"...his response, "it's not for everyone, have a nice day", and they left. If you're not willing to try something that's good for you, and better for the planet, there's no sense in wasting time talking about it. The prices are fair, and the food is delicious with good proportions. They do not offer water, only their specialty in house drinks and some drinks in the cooler. If you want water, bring it with ya. I'm afraid I have to reduce a star based on my second visit. I've craved the sweet potato tacos since my first visit but this trip they were seeping in oil. I tried hard to keep eating them but I just couldn't. My first experience having the tacos was nothing like this. I'll stick to the Havana bowl from now on. Or request no oil (if possible???) if I think about ordering the sweet potato tacos again. I did feel undervalued when I shared why I didn't want a togo box for my remaining taco...I stated it was too much oil, and the reply I got from the owner was, "my food isn't healthy." with a bit of unpleasant and snippy tone. Tarzan made it a 10x experience from an already 10x experience. There are so many incredible options to choose from on this menu. I think we did a pretty damn good job though. The Not Chickn Gyro, Brutus Pizza, & the Triple Taco Platter was absolutely stellar. Along with the entrees, their vanilla bean ice cream, peach cobbler, chocolate cake, & root beer float were so tasty. Each dish had such unique flavor that made it stand out above almost any other restaurant that makes comfort food like this. I personally believe from a creative aspect, overall flavor & presentation (even the price) that the Chickn Gyro was the most incredible item on the menu! I can't wait to go back & order more of the Tacos. They make everything from scratch, including their cheeses & most impressively their Seitan; FROM SCRATCH! I don't even like Seitan, until now. I am absolutely coming back to Eris soon! I had my first meal here yesterday with a friend around noon and I was immediately enamored with the decor. There is a variety of art covering the walls, beautiful wooden tables and seating, a tall shelf full of interesting books, and an outdoor seating area with flowers on each table. It felt like the perfect kind of safety and calmness you'd expect from a tucked away cafe or a library. We ordered two fragrant & sweet lavender lemonades, the Acapulco Pizza, and the Chikun Pesto Gyro. I had the Pizza and it was absolutely delicious. I can't decide what I liked the most about it. The toppings and sauce were savory and sweet, the crust was thick and perfectly toasted, and the serving size left me very satisfied. It was exactly what I was craving and exceeded my expectations. Wow wow wow!! First and foremost I want to say a huge thank you to the owner, Scott. He went above and beyond to accommodate me. My fiancé thankfully doesn't have any allergies but unfortunately I do. Scott DOES have soy free options, but the oil for cooking does contain soy. I want to point this out for anyone else who like me has a legit soy allergy! That being said, Scott thanked me for bringing that to his attention when I asked about the oil and he said, "don't worry! We will make it work!" He ended up making me such a delicious and fresh bowl! It contained yams, avocado, rice and beans!! And he made a special sauce for it and handled everything in the kitchen for me to make sure it was safe and had no contact with soy! It was soooo good! I couldn't finish it all but he provided a box for me so I could take the rest back to our hotel! When I asked if I could pay for more yams, he said "you won't be paying! It's my gift to you!" Scott is what every business owner should be: kind, caring and dedicated. You can tell he takes pride in his business! From the moment we walked in we were welcomed with open arms. He politely introduced himself, asked our names and told us about his restaurant. He made us feel welcomed. Truly. He also didn't make me feel annoying for asking about allergens!! The fact he went above and beyond spoke volumes. He also said whenever we're back in town to call ahead of time and he'd personally get a safe oil for me. How sweet is that?!! I was immediately greeted and welcomed by Scott, the fabulous owner who preps and makes all the food himself. He was cleaning and chopping up sweet potatoes when he asked what I wanted or do I need more time. Being ADHD and vegan and first time there, yes I needed more time. I am way too used to going out to eat at other restaurants and having only 1-2 options... so totally stoked the entire menu and restaurant is vegan!!!! I decided to get tbe fysh tacos and a lavender lemonade to eat there and a buffalo chickun pizza for later as a recommendation from Scott. My sister in law sat in covered patio that had cute seating, plants everywhere and a wonderful breeze being so close to the beach, it was walking distance. I could smell the aromas from the kitchen too, so that's always nice. The food was exceptionally fresh, crunchy and delicious. The sauce was exceptional and was tangy and a little bit of heat. They were decent size mini tacos and I didn't realize how hungry I was but totally housed them. Yum! Just before I paid, Scott presented me with my takeout pizza and showed me what it looked like. It smelled amazing and it looked artistic! Needless to say, I will be coming back soon and telling all my vegan friends about this place if they don't know about it. I'm also talking my picky family members, they did not like when I took them to the Plot which is about a mile or so away. I wasn't as impressed with the competition either. My wife and I stopped by Eris in Oceanside on 3/14 and absolutely loved it. The place is small but full of character -- local artists' work on the walls, pop culture decorations, and a really welcoming, community-forward vibe. The owner took our order and was incredibly friendly, helpful, and informative. He described all of the dishes and you can tell he genuinely loves his resturant and what he's doing there. At one point he mentioned that he's proud of the portions because he thinks a lot of vegan resturants tend to skimp a little. He was absolutely right to be proud. I had the French Dip and it was honestly one of the best sandwiches I've had. The stek was sliced thin and really tasty, the cheze in the sandwich was perfectly gooey (which is rare for plant based cheze), and the aujus was the real star. I've honestly had nothing like it before. It was also a really hearty portion and super filling. My wife had the Jambi sandwich -- a hash brown wafflle with fried chikun, sunflower swiss, seitan bakon between two pieces of french toast -- plus chili fries on the side. The sandwich itself was impressively big and definitely lived up to the owner's point about portions. We've both been vegan for about 10 years and always appreciate finding places doing creative food like this. Not sure if that's how it always is there, but it was a super nice touch meeting a friendly owner who told us a little about the menu and what to expect. The restaurant is well-decorated, and it feels like a very unique place the moment you walk in. Definitely an interesting coffee shop style with chess boards and interesting books. I came here based on the high marks, but I'm genuinely surprised that this place has so many 5 star reviews because I didn't think food was good at all. I appreciate the friendly owner and that they make everything from scratch, but homemade doesn't always translate to tasty. The portions are really oversized. Additionally, the fake meat is too heavy, salty, and (to me) felt overcooked. I couldn't finish the sandwich I ordered because it was just too much. A bit disappointed because the place is not inexpensive. I don't mind spending money on good food but I really didn't enjoy my meal. What a gem! After a fun-filled day at Legoland, we decided to end the evening here, indulging ourselves! The portions were very generous and everything was presented beautifully! I love that they make their own cheese and faux meat substitutes. After our meal, I felt energized without feeling too heavy or full. I contribute that feeling to the food being made much healthier! The burger and pizza really hit the spot, and my kid loved his quesadilla. Our non-vegan friend devoured his gyro and forgot he was even at a vegan restaurant. He actually said, "I would offer you some but you don't eat meat." Bruh - really?! Glad he enjoyed it that much! I've made a habit of bringing my family to Eris whenever I'm in town. The food is absolutely phenomenal. The owner, who makes everything from scratch, doubles as a welcoming, personable host, always willing to give top notch recommendations. The atmosphere is as carefully conceived as the menu. There's a children's library inside and art supplies and spare pieces of paper outside. I forgot paper and pencils to play flower pot (formerly hangman) with my kids, and didn't even have to ask for the supplies. They were already available. I can't recall ever having been to a restaurant that thought to do that. As far as specific dishes go, the Reuben and tacos are tremendous and are currently standing out to me because I just had them, but everything I've had there has been great.
