We visited Denny's around 8:30 in the morning on New Year's Day and it was not busy. We ordered the tater tots with jalapeños, and they wrre not hot. We also ordered the breakfast skillet with the chorizo. They arrived to the table and they were only lukewarm. From the booth we were sitting at, I could see back into the kitchen area. I saw that one of the workers was chewing food! We had to ask twice for refills. Slow service, only warm food, and with the tip, a bill for $50. I hadn't been to a Denny's in many years. The food here is consistent and decent, but the service here is just terrible. food: 4/5 service: 2/5 overall: 3/5 I've come here many times with my friends and family and I always feel that the service is lacking. Usually the service is slow or the servers completely ignore you even when you wave at them. On my last visit, my server charged me for an extra drink that I did not order. He also charged me extra for toast when I thought it came with the meal. If your server asks, "what type of toast would you like?" it implies that it comes with the meal. Unfortunately that wasn't my case and I felt misled. When they came to clear some dishes off my table, they took my toast away before I was even able to start on it. I would not normally waste my time writing a Denny's review, except I got out of this world service. I took my daughter to breakfast. We shared one of those 5.99 grand slam meals. It is a ton of food for even two people. The waiters name was Joshua. Joshua looked a little rough with his tattoos and earrings, but he is a great waiter. Filled my coffee three times.(I was a little jittery at work) Super nice and friendly. Asked many times if we needed anything. Also my favorite part he reminded all the extras we needed. This place is probably the best Denny's restaurant I've been to in all of California I came here for breakfast and enjoy their seasonal pumpkin flavored Halloween themed breakfast and it was very good I also enjoyed their pre-Thanksgiving turkey dinner f or brunch and it was also equally satisfying the staff is very friendly there is plenty of parking at least during the morning and if you run out there plenty of street parking also available. I did notice that there are several security cameras installed outside of this establishment whining at the parking lot and at the entrance so I'm not sure if this place is safe at night since it's a 24 hour restaurant. If this location get busy they shut off the phones. They just don't care to serve the take out business if the restaurant is busy. Not sure if the management knows that they shut off the phones but when I tried to order my breakfast between 5:30 and 6:00 am no answer. This is not the first time this happened to me. This is going to sound weird but Denny's had really gotten good. Today u had the pot roast melt and it was the bomb. Last time I was here I had the double cheeseburger and it was thick and juicy just like a home made burger. If you haven't tried Denny's in a while I recommend you go back. I come here often late night with my boyfriend to study because its open 24/7. For the past couple days the wifi has been inconsistent.. on and off,on and off so basically theres no free wifi. We came here with a group tonight and I am leaving upset and still hungry. We ordered a Chicken Philly because I can't eat red meat and they gave us one with beef instead. While the rest of our group ate their food we waited for our waitress to come check on us but she never came. My boyfriend finally flagged down another waiter. In general, I think Denny's is pretty decent for breakfast, but I've now tried this one twice after church and it's just really been bad. The first time I tried one of their skillets and everything was overcooked and unimpressive. So, since my kids kept bugging me to go back, I decided to go with my old staple of the All-American Grand Slam. What could go wrong? Shouldn't have asked. Toast came out cold. Bacon came out limp (both my son and I sent ours back and they tossed it into the microwave and crisped it up, instead of properly grilling it). The worst part was, about 1/3 of the way through my scrambled eggs, I came upon a big, white gooey mess right in the middle. Not only had they not bothered to actually 'scramble' my 'scrambled' eggs, they also didn't bother to cook them either. It was, to put it mildly, disgusting. I called the manager over and he began to "explain" and I stopped him and said "please don't make any excuses for this...". He said he wasn't. And then started making excuses; "we switched over from pre-mixed liquid eggs to real eggs" (I guess their chefs never learned how to scramble real eggs in their version of Hell's Kitchen), "some people like their bacon a little less-cooked" (ok, I understand that, but how many of them like their bacon, literally, raw?). Really very disappointing. Convenient for us because it's close to the house and church, it could have been perfect, but we'll drive further to get our food cooked, thank you. Our server, who has been mentioned in other reviews, refilled my drink every time she walked by. She had no clue what my fiancee was drinking so she just kept giving us both diet cokes. When my fiancee asked for a straw she gave her a dirty look as if we were taking up too much of her time. Really? It's a straw. You carry them in your pocket. When my fiancee finally explained to her she wasn't drinking Diet Coke and asked for a refill of her Sprite, it took about three passes before it happened. After that, our server never interacted with us again except to give us the bill. My fiancee got the same attitude when asking for napkins. We had to go to another server to get her a hot chocolate. And the manager, who did nothing but interact with the table behind us, never asked us if we were happy with the food and service. When we explained how poor the service was at checkout, he got extremely defensive because we should have come to him first. You're the manager. You're supposed to check in with your customers. You should actively be asking if they're okay with the service, not waiting for them to come to you. All in all, this was the worst service I've ever experienced at a Dennys. They put a lot of money into a recent remodel, and that's too bad. Because it makes the customer service feel even worse. read more

This review has nothing to do with the food (although, it was good as usual. Build your own slam with eggs, bacon, hash browns and sausage). This review is about the unbelievable service. I often come to this Denny's while I wait for car maintenance being done at Firestone. It's usually a pretty run-of-the-mill experience. The food is as expected, but not extraordinary. I mean, it's not a Michelin Star restaurant, we all know that. But, it's good, hot, consistent food. I usually ask for a quiet booth so I can do some work (I'm a digital artist) while I eat and wait for my car. They let you sit there for hours. They don't care. It's a nice, welcoming feeling. They keep your coffee hot, they check on you often but not too often. It's a nice, relaxing experience. This last visit was no different. I ordered my egg breakfast, I did some work, listened to some music, waited for my car. My server Lisa was very friendly, but mostly left me alone to work. And then, my personal nightmare began... (warning, this is about to be a very long-winded, crazy story.) So, Firestone called with some very bad news about my old trusty car. Without going in to tedious details, let's just say the conclusion was that it was now un-driveable, unless i wanted to scavenge junk yards for a new axle. I did not. So, it was decided that it would need to be towed home. Okay, fine. Not the news I wanted, but not unexpected for a 1995 Toyota Tercel. I gathered my things, and went up to pay my bill. Afterward, I decided to get an Uber home. I only live about 5 minutes away, but this was August 31, when we had triple digit temperatures in San Diego. Of course, I had never done an Uber, so I needed to download the app. Well, as it was the last day of the month, my data service was incredibly slow. The WiFi in this location was spotty as well, and the Uber app wasn't working. I called Firestone to ask for a ride home, and they said they "don't do that," even after I explained that I live 5 minutes away. (Really Firestone? My old mechanic in El Cajon did that. Maybe he's the only one?) So...what to do? Call a taxi? Walk 20 minutes in 100 degree heat to the bus stop? I decided on a taxi. Realized I didn't have cash, and tried to use Denny's ATM. Didn't work. Okay...hmmm...well, I'll just call a taxi and hopefully they take cards. Went to google a taxi, and my phone battery died. I did not have a charging cable with me, it was in the other car that my husband took to work. This day just keeps getting better and better! In summary, the staff at this Denny's was incredible. Three different people searched for an iPhone cable for me. Finally they found one in the manager's office and took my phone away to charge it. While I was waiting for it, the manager came out. (I wish I could remember his name!) and asked me if I was okay. When I explained the situation, he offered to give me a ride home. THE MANAGER AT DENNY'S DROVE ME HOME, PEOPLE! Has this ever happened to anyone else? I'd never seen him before in my life, but, he seemed nice, and I was feeling desperate. And I didn't want to try to call a taxi from the landline phone. That is, if I was lucky enough to track down yellow pages. (Do they even make those anymore?) I thanked him profusely, used their landline phone to make a call to my husband letting him know what was going on, and what I was doing. (It just seemed like the wise thing to do in this situation, if you know what I mean). I didn't expect him to answer, because he was in meetings all day, but I left a voicemail. Anyway, the manager (who's name escapes me) drove me home in his nice, clean car. It was the nicest thing a stranger had done for me in a long time. I promised I would write a good review, so here it is. I'm not suggesting that people expect rides from the staff at Denny's. I'm merely saying that this particularly location is staffed with people who care about other people, and are willing to do a kind thing for someone in an "emergency." Thank you Rancho Bernardo Denny's! Delicious food, great service, kind people, and a rescue! That deserves 5 stars, even with a broken ATM and spotty WiFi. Hey, you can't have everything, you know? P.S. My husband and I bought a new car 3 days later. A new Honda Pilot. So, maybe it was a blessing in disguise. The new car was long overdue. ;-) read more

I go here every weekend with my husband and this is the best and cleanest Denny's I have ever been too. The general manager, Lena, is always on the floor making sure that everything is running smoothly and the wait staff in the morning is the friendliest and nicest around. Everyone always has a smile. My waitress in particular always makes sure that all of my needs are met, my coffee and Ice Tea are always full, and that my food is always hot, and I admit I am a very picky person! I would recommend this Denny's, even this restaurant, over any in Rancho Bernardo (especially Coco's). Bravo Denny's in RB you really do an exceptional job read more
