After 10 minutes of looking at breakfast options, chilaquiles started to catch my attention. I landed on Night & Day Cafe's Chilaquiles. I am a scramble egg girl so this Chilaquiles was perfect. It came with shredded beef, beens, rice and of course the tortilla chips. I got red salsa to add on top and it was seriously delicious. We picked up breakfast burritos on the way to the beach. It was a last minute decision and a quick yelp search led us to Night and Day Cafe. We ordered 2 carne asada breakfast burritos. The ND Cafe was the closest thing to a bome cooked meal for single sailors like myself. I frequented there ofter during my Navy enlistments from 1986 fo 1993. I was excited to see it still opened when I returned in 2003 for my ship's decommissioning ceremony (USS Connie CV64). Little had changed. Still had the same feel, same awesome cup of coffee, and the same great home style food in SD county. The memory best was coming in during the Christmas seasons between 1986 and 1989 anc hearing the juke box play Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer over and over every 20 to 30 minutes. 40 years plus later I still know the words by heart. The cooks were awesome. They were all like second moms and big sisters to us young navy guys. We learned a lot from them. I wish I could still remember names though Incan still see th3ir faces. The graveyard shift cook put up with zero cursing. out you went if you said so much as GD. One warning was all you got. The next was her telling youmto pay and leave as she pointed her spatula toward the door. Plenty of patrons therr both military and locals to back her up. My partner ordered the carne asada burrito and it wasn't good either. It was bland and the meat was a bit tough. The accompanying salsas were so bland and had no flavor, especially the green sauce. We came last week and the entire experience was delightful, Unfortunately, today we were met by a sour faced hostess who told us there was one party ahead of us and a 20 minute wait. No problem!
