I had the All American Slam breakfast at the West Columbia, SC Denny's and it was very good. The restaurant was very clean, and Ms. Hope was very friendly and attentive. I have fond memories of Denny's as a kid and I love the brand. Having said that, the bacon and sausage links were the smallest, saddest looking ones I've ever seen. And I mean that sincerely. They looked worse than what was served in the Army in 1986 at Basic Training. And I mean that sincerely too. Those were the only things that brought this down to a 3-star rating. The service was pretty good. We were greeted and seated quickly. We had a gentleman take our order and the food we received was nice and hot and tasty. I really wish I remembered what we ordered from off the menu so I can list it here in my review, but nevertheless the food was definitely a nine out of 10 The reason I'm giving it a nag and not a full tan is because the fries were a little blonde and I wish they were seasoned a little more but everything else was cooked to perfection The service we got at that time was beautiful and we felt welcomed. The area unlike most restaurants was clean before we sat down and they make sure that everything is OK and if need be and it's reasonable, they will adjust your food if there is a problem. I waited almost 45-50 for a burger. It took 15 minutes for someone to even acknowledge i was waiting to place an order and they didnt even have a full house. The burger was good ill admit but just took entirely too long they need to have a better system if they arent going to have enough workers in place. We stopped on our way to the mountains. Our waitress was a very sweet, young girl on her third day. I could tell she was stressed but she was being as sweet as she could be. Her manager was a great guy and took over for a bit so she could take a break and catch her breath. Wish I would have caught her name. Went to IHOP on assembly, with my grandkids on a Sunday after Church, the place was a disgrace, so I decided to try Dennys on Sunset Blvd, West Columbia, it seams as if I left the states, the place was very clean, the service was immaculate, the food presentation was awesome, the food was very tasty and enjoyable, my grandkids really enjoyed their food, their plate was clean, my server was a male, forgot his name, he made sure they got their soda refilled to take with them, he was enjoying his work as a waiter, & he his very funny with great customer service skills, make you feel at home, as if he's his there serving you, great sense of humor! Always had a great service until today. They only had 2 servers. We had to wait more than 30 mins to get our food. When our food came out, my ham was burnt. My husband's omelet was tiny (apparently they ran out of eggs and the manager had to go out to get more eggs) and no salsa even though we asked. I understand they were short handed but the server avoided us when she sensed we were not happy. Further, my husband's English muffins weren't really toasted and the tasted very strange. We are guessing that he received gluten free English muffins - which we did not request. Walked in at 9:44 for breakfast, no one in front to seat me. Someone came, no greeting, just asked how many in my party...seated at 9:50. Waitress comes at 9:58 takes my order and promptly brings drink (water). I notice the waitress servicing the table in front of me has come to the table 5 times before mine has come back once. Maybe it's because the patrons are elderly, or maybe they're known here. My waitress is nowhere to be found. At 10:20 she magically appears with my order, which looks a bit scary. The hash browns are most definitely not like Waffle House makes. I ordered cheese and onions on them and I get something that doesn't look familiar. The onion looks like some grey matter was sautéed in 'em or maybe they were dropped on the floor, stepped on and refried before loading them onto my hash browns. 10:21 my waitress brings the check and as an afterthought asks if everything's okay. 10:46 (just now) she comes over and asks if everything's okay again. I know we were 9 guests and our server was nice (at the beginning) I don't know what happened to her but at the time she started bringing our order she was missing 2 (one of those was for my nephew) then she came back and asked my 2 friends what they had ordered, we had to wait 30 more minutes for their food to come, in the mid time my nephew started to cry because he was starving. When finally they got their food, the server never came back to check on us, offer refills or to give us the check. At the end the cook started to help us. This is absolute garbage. We came two weeks ago at night and they have these stupid signs saying due to staffing issues they can't do any dine in orders. Well today we go in around 11pm and there are these two employees sitting outside enjoying themselves and we walk in and they still have the same signs up. It's ridiculous. Staff your damn restaurant or close for the night. Last time we were able to eat there there was one cook and one server. Well it's Denny's. I used to love Denny's, especially the old one, by the airport. This one was alright. There was plenty of room, and the wait was just a few minutes. The place seemed a little disorganized, and the staff were kind of arguing with each other, but our waitress was great. All in all I'd say a good place for people watching. The food is alright, not quite as nice as IHOP, but they do offer an AARP discount, which is nice. The prices were decent as well. The food is good, not great.
