I have loved my experience at Dental Elements. I have avoided the dentist for years, and they have made the experience painless (as painless as is possible with 15 cavities and a wisdom tooth extraction!!). Everyone individually is personable and thorough, and Dr Thurman gives me complete faith that he is an expert in his field. Excellent amenities, and of course impeccable dentistry. I had my first exam and cleaning here yesterday. When I first walked in I was warmly greeted and checked in promptly. I was then shown to a room where I digitally signed the paperwork I'd already completed prior to the visit. I was then introduced to my hygienist who realized I was 30 weeks pregnant and knew exactly what to do and what not to do for me. I felt safe and she made me feel totally normal that my gums were bleeding like crazy. She suggested a more expensive cleaning powder and explained the additional charge which I appreciated. After the cleaning, the dentist checked my teeth and gums and we created a follow up plan to get X-rays when I'm no longer pregnant. He even took the time to look up tongue scrapers on Amazon with me and he suggested the best one that he likes to use. I'm happy I'm a patient and look forward to going back! read more

Dental Elements is a great dental practice conveniently located in Lodo. The office is sleek and modern and has state of the art equipment, from paperless billing to nice TVs at each chair. The team was extremely friendly and made a trip to the dentist seem less scary. My teeth still feel clean a few days later! They are also honest when it comes to extra work and take the time to go over the exact costs for their services without feeling like they just want money. Terrible. Excruciating pain after the dental work they did. Cracked front teeth, terrible pain. Was told it was all due to me grinding my teeth. Very disappointed as I went in crying from the pain. After paying over 2k dollars for the work they did, I was told I would need a root canal which the Dentist never mentioned before. Very disappointed to be treated the way I did. I have nerve pain I never had before, abd the refused to at least acknowledge that the work they did on my teeth might have something to do with it. Get a second opinion before they work on your teeth. I wish I had. read more

OK, I'll try to be objective here, but my impression is a bit tarnished. First, the service and the office are top notch. Dr. Thurman and his crew are fantastic and have invested heavily in modern equipment and a pleasant office. I'm not an expert, but I'd say the dental work is excellent as well. Here's where things go south. They have very aggressive billing practices. During the 2 or 3 visits I've had there, there always seems to be some sort of upsell. This past visit, I was asked to make financial decisions while on the chair in the middle of a procedure with no information on the benefit of the add-on. Additionally, I had so much equipment jammed in my mouth I couldn't even speak to answer them. Do NOT opt to put your card on file. This is what insurance is for. They will immediately bill the estimated out of pocket expenses the day of the service. Once again, I'm not an expert in insurance but I'm sure it's more complicated than looking at the estimated costs without knowing whether I've met my deductibles or not. I was not given any information on the out-of-pocket estimates before, during or after my appointment and discovered the $1,100 change on my account that day. More than a little surprising. I can only give Dental Elements 2-starts for their less than up-front billing practices and aggressive up-sells. read more

My experience with Dental Elements had some pros and a lot of major cons. I just moved to Denver and was looking for a place to get my 6 month teeth cleaning. I take good care of my teeth and have had a ton of work done on my mouth so I'm very in touch with it's condition. Yelp's reviews for this one were OK so I foolishly gave it a shot. Let's start by being positive! Pros: Convenient location, very clean office, friendly receptionist, on-time, did an EXCELLENT job cleaning my teeth Now for how I really felt! Cons: Dental Elements' motto should be "Sell Sell SELL!" From the second you walk into this office, be prepared to combat aggressive sales tactics from everyone including the receptionist, hygienist, and dentist himself. Be prepared to face HIGH prices...way higher than the office even across the street. While the staff was unquestionably friendly, I have provided a list of the comments that really frustrated me below: 1. You look like you've had your teeth whitened before, you know we can continue that treatment for you? 2. Are you happy with your smile or think it could use some improvement? 3. Wow you have really pitty teeth, I'm shocked you haven't had them plastered yet? You should really consider plastering your bottom teeth. 4. You must drink a lot of coffee or tea huh? (I barely drink a cup a week) We can actually get the stains off your teeth starting today if you want a brighter smile. 5. WOW...you have a night guard right? (No, my prior dentists and orthodontists have never suggested I need one) REALLY?! Look at how flat this tooth is..."I'm surprised your teeth haven't fallen out"...You need a night guard starting tonight. They have all sorts of new technology that will keep grinders from losing teeth. (I have a special retainer that holds my teeth and roof of my mouth in place. After getting jaw surgery, my surgeon said I would always need to wear this to make sure my mouth doesn't shift and that the clear retainers that just cover my teeth wouldn't cut it) Well how long ago was your surgery? Technology has developed since then, mouth guards are what research is showing to save teeth. "We normally sell them for $700 cause they're so high tech but we are offering a deal for $400 and your insurance usually pays half." The story ends so poorly. The dentist came over to look at my mouth and said the same thing "Wow, I'm surprised your teeth haven't fallen out! Such short roots, a mouth guard would help." ............I caved in, said fine I don't want my teeth to fall out and signed up for the mouth guard. The second I left I knew I had been taken advantage of. I had the office send my xrays to my dentist from home and he said my teeth were flat from how my jaw was positioned for chewing prior to my jaw surgery, and that yes, while my roots are extremely short, the only thing I could do to help them is keep my teeth as clean as possible. I picked up my mouth guard yesterday...it fits loosely doesn't have a fraction of the structure/hold that retainer does. I was so frustrated with this office I just told them it fit and left so I wouldn't have to deal with them justifying everything to me again. I will never set foot here again. However, if you just want your teeth cleaned and are prepared to dodge the sales pitches, they really did do an excellent job cleaning my teeth. ****NOTE: Dr. Thurman got in touch with me after reading this review and very sincerely offered to correct my experience. He offered a variety of options to improve, return, or make a new mouth guard and reiterated Dental Element's mission to make patients happy. I am a former patient of Dental Elements. Be wary of any "recommended" procedures! I suspect Dr. Thurman's primary motivation is the bottom line. During my initial visit, Dr. Thurman identified multiple "cavities" that urgently needed fillings. I found this surprising because I have received regular dental care and never had a cavity in the past. Dr. Thurman also recommended a wisdom tooth extraction. I sought another opinion, and a second dentist told me that I did not have any cavities and did not need the wisdom tooth extraction. It's unethical for a so-called healthcare professional to recommend unnecessary procedures. read more

I recently had a bunch of dental work completed by Dr Thurman - wisdom teeth, a shameful amount of cavities, and cleaning and whitening. He did a great job! A few of the cavities were potentially too big to fill, which would have meant root canal work - thankfully Dr Thurman managed to fix things without the need for that! The whole team is really nice (Michael and Kara) and I am really glad to have found them! They are very well located, and the offices are extremely pleasant! Christmas is the worst time of year to have a dental emergency!!! My husband was in excruciating pain for 3 days while attempting to get into any dental office he could. I finally Googled reviews on Denver dental offices and this office came up on the top of the list. For good reason too! I called, spoke with Nancy, and explained the situation...guess what, she got him in at the end of THAT day (to which I believe Dr. Thurman stayed late for us), and set us up for an appt the next day to get his root canal started. This place is a joke. Had an appointment for a regular cleaning wound up with a bill for over $2500. I think they are pushy and don't really explain why I needed this or that procedure except the classic "Deep Clean" scam that seems to be being used on 9/10 young patients. It was as if I didn't go to the Dentist for 20 years. Got a second opinion and avoided at least $1500 of their quote. The Dentist seemed annoyed when questions were asked and condescending. I was looking for a new dentist and went in for an appointment in December. The dentist told me that I had a molar that was in very bad shape and would require a crown. He went on to tell me that I was grinding my teeth and would need a night guard for that. That was despite the fact that I am a 47 year old man who'd never been told that before. I was given an estimate of work for about $1,200. Because of night guard suggestion, I decided that I didn't trust him. Fast forward 6 months. I took the trip across town to visit my old dentist. Everything was fine. So, either Dental Elements was willing to do unnecessary work on my mouth for the money or my tooth magically healed itself. I am going to go with the first. Great dental office. They were very quick but thorough. This is my first time but I will be returning.

I believe that Denver Elements and Dr. Thurman are very capable at being good dentists. What I do not believe in is the scare tactics and the heavy hand on what I needed to do. Like another, I needed a mouth card and he wanted to rebuild my molar as he said it didn't look good (he also told me that he was a bit of an architect when it comes to teeth as he uses CAD and designs teeth.) When my first visit was over, I was told I needed a replacement crown, a new crown for a molar, 9 fillings and a mouth guard. I go to the dentists every 6 months and I have one tooth that another dentist and I were watching. Perhaps this tooth was also included but who knows. I said I needed a breather and to think about all of this as this was probably one of the most damaging appointments I have ever had, from a wow, do I not take care of my mouth at all point. I have asked to see another dentist for a second opionion, but in fact, I have decided to not go back to dental elements. Since my appointment, they have called me 3 times and emailed me twice to set up those appointments for all the work. No thanks. read more

Boy oh boy I wish I had read these reviews before I went in because everything said here is so RIGHT! Where do I begin... First of all, I have never had a filling in my entire life or any dental issue for that matter and was told I had 5 cavities! Immediately, I was shocked and thought something was up. They were pushy and wanted me to stay after my cleaning to get the "cavities" filled that afternoon, but I wanted to consult my old dentist first. I managed to escape, but was forced into scheduling another appointment. I sent my old dentist the photos and was told nothing was wrong with my teeth and to stay away!!! I canceled my appointment immediately and thought I was done with this place. Then... After confirming that the office was in-network multiple times (before actually scheduling the appointment, confirming when I arrived and having someone take me through what was "covered" in the chair), I received an outstanding bill of a couple of hundred dollars. I called my insurance company to find out why I would have to cover the amount and was told the dentist was in fact, not in-network. I called the office and was told that they were sorry for the miscommunication, but there was nothing they could do as it was the patient's responsibility to ascertain if a provider is in-network or not. I was then told that if I wrote a positive review, they would credit me $100 and that could be applied to the outstanding amount. What a JOKE! I paid the total outstanding amount and then turned here to express my absolute disgust. I will never return here and hope that this turns you off. read more

Most unprofessional dentist I've ever been to. I called to see if they could have a crown put in that another dentist said I needed and they were able to book an appointment for me. I needed it done quickly since I am moving insurance companies due to a job change. I asked when booking the appointment if they needed anything from my normal dentist and was told no. Once I got to the office they said they need x rays and since I just had the exam done by my normal dentist, they would not be covered again that soon. When I told him the situation and said that it was the fault of his office specifically telling me that I didn't need to send anything from the other dentist, he responded with "We're not a bartering office". He was referring to me seeing if they would be able to just do the xray and not charge me for it since it was something he was wanting and I just wanted the crown. After that I said that I would not be coming back to the office if I have to go get the xrays and reschedule since this was already a time crunch for me. His response was "I feel like you're threatening me and there's the door if you aren't going to come back". I told him that attitude told me enough about their practice and immediately distrusted them doing the crown anyway so I left. This was my experience and just wanted to give fair warning about the arrogance and unprofessional environment I experienced. Update - The dentist for the practice called me back and apologized for the behavior of his assistant but I am leaving this review since it was true situation that I experienced in his office. read more

I managed to make an appointment the next day as a new patient, they were extremely nice and helpful when assisting me with my appointment and new patient paperwork, and the dental professionals themselves were the best I've ever had. They caught my horrible tendency to grind my teeth and are really saving me in the long run. This visit was to replace an old silver filling and recap a tooth. It was to take 2 hrs. It TOOK 4!. Back in the chair I received a few shots to numb me up. But those shots failed. Sill in pain, dr. Thurman asked if I wanted further shots. My thinking here was "do I have to be the one to ask for more shots"?. When not even those proved as successful I had hoped, another round was to come. At this point I sensed the doctor to be a wee bit annoyed. He offered something to put me asleep. When I asked if insurance would pick that up, I was told no. It would be $700. My final complaint was at check out. I was told that the day's visit (my portion) would b $1200.00. Really? Can you bill me? (Like every dentist I've ever gone to).
