A friend recommended this dentist and initially I thought it was a little strange just based on location but I've been corrected. Wellness dental is modern, clean, welcoming, and efficient. Pros: "Paperwork" is completed on an iPad, super easy. It didn't take multiple months to get a cleaning scheduled as a new patient, just a few weeks. The cleaning was a breeze and I didn't feel like they were judging me/my teeth and most importantly I didn't feel pressured to do anything additional. Cons: I can't think of a single one. How is it i get calls and messages throughout the week reminding me that my dentist appointment is at 12:00 pm and 11:00 pm for just one person?!?!?!? i call 2 hours ahead to ask why is that? The person on the phone says " no we asked you to confirm 11:00 am and you said yes" which is literally a lie unless somehow she texted the wrong number that's not what i see. It's difficult for me to find a dentist I trust, but I trust Dr. Giple-Johnson. She is thorough and does a full mouth exam, not just of the teeth. She treats conservatively, instead of unnecessary treatments to make more money from insurance. If I had just one critique, I'd say the front desk could work on their greeting, as they reply to "Good morning" with "Last name?". Not entirely unfriendly, but could be a little better. I usually don't write bad reviews. However, I feel that I must share so that others do not have to experience what I have. First of all, The girls at the front desk are not professional at all. It's common for them to be laughing/talking as you stand there for them to finish. Also, if you have a question that they don't know the answer to all they say is "I don't know" not "let me go find out". Also, every time I had an appt the price they quoted me before the appt would be different when it came time to pay. They would explain it away that they had to do this or that. Sure, I can afford to pay it but that is not what we discussed. Also, there was a new Hygienist that cleaned my teeth and she tried to speak to me as if I was a child. SUPER CONDESCENDING! Lastly, the doctor basically told me that she followed protocol and doesn't understand why my gums were having these issues and that was that. She wanted to refer me to her friend that's a Periodontist that (I've been to before), who wanted to perform a super expensive procedure on me. Which included me having surgery on my gums. No, thank you! This was very disappointing because I looked past her incompetent staff (for so long- years), because she seemed to be committed to providing me with the best dental care. Like reviewers here, I have had problems with other dentists. My complaint with other dentists centers on the fact they have refused to give me prevention advice, when I sought such! A dentist, who made me gargle with colloidal silver, did half a procedure and required me wait to finish it, and the specialist refused to refer me to someone else. So in the middle of a procedure, Dr. Johnson welcomed me with open arms! She seems to exemplify emotional intelligence and she has demonstrated thinking outside the box solutions. Dr. Johnson seems to have a good heart that puts "patients before profits" as the saying goes. I loved getting Dr. Johnson's prevention advice, something I never heard before. It seemed to help too, as my next appointment got better. The next appointment after that went well too. She has thus empowered me, and I consider empowerment to be one of the best things in life! She has located her office in the perfect place. Come to your appointments early to be on time, and if you have time to spare, you will have plenty of stimulation to occupy yourself in the Arboretum area. At today's appointment, a hygienist named DeeDee helped me. She exuded energy, astuteness, knowledge, and friendless. It thrilled me to hear I had some 1 millimeters for gums and then mostly 2s and 3s! I never had 1s before, so bravo, Wellness Dental for empowering me. Although I want to have perfect teeth and gums, DeeDee showed me ways to improve. I have had too many dental appointments to count over the years, yet at this appointment, DeeDee managed to teach me tons of new information and tips. It would seem teeth and gums would be straightforward enough, but this office has showed me, we can always improve. Like the saying goes, the biggest room in the world is the room for improvement." This dentist makes mistakes. Enough to warrant new work from another dentist and enough for Dr.Johnson to provide me a partial refund. Now I am not a saint by any means. I hadn't been to the dentist in ages(3-4yrs). I came to Wellness Dental by word of mouth. Saturday and Evening appointments are appealing. You don't find these hours with many dentists. THERES YOUR ONE STAR. Wellness Dental lost the other 4 STARS. With the following. I had a full mouth deep cleaning, whitening, and a few fillings by my request or due to cavities. Either way bad work all around. I am still pleading she refund me for the entirety of the work. I was in pain for MONTHS until I decided I needed to see a new dentist. The cleaning was first, then fillings and a CROWN. Please review the work she did vs the work my new dentist did. Now for the CROWN. When I went to her I rarely experienced sensitivity on #3. Like every once in a while something felt funny with this one. She proceeded to Crown this molar. The crown was bulky as can be, see the pictures and uncomfortable. I guess they didn't teach her how to adjust a bite. Always wrong but this crown hurt. She placed the crown while I wasn't numb to help the bite, OUCH. I went back a few times due to the pain I was experiencing, she continuously brushed this off to how close this cavity was to my nerve which yes I see, we can all see on the pictures, but this was unbearable. The office's solution was for me to continue returning. Well, after having this crown since May I decided to go to a new dentist this week and what do you know, the crown has a large gap in the back probably #1 reason for my pain all these months. Well I had to get a new crown and what do you know, three days later my sensitivity is gone. Now I spent $1838.30 in all the work upfront with two checks for differences with insurance for $328 total and she Refunded the crown $551.50. There's a remaining $958.80 that she should refund for the countless times I returned; the amount of pain I have been in since MAY! That she simply couldn't resolve. And now I still have to get another crown on #15 because she made the wrong call with the filling. The fillings she performed constantly left my bite feeling wrong. I requested a filling on my front teeth because of some discoloration, she left the room all while she DIDNT FILL THE BACK OF THE TOOTH. There was a hole behind my teeth. She didn't believe it, put a small amount of filling on it and realized it was all now in the hole, she proceeded to correct this. I had a cavity on a back molar that according to her needed a filling, the filling is right between two molars, #14-15. She proceeded to perform this filling, the bite needed several corrections, I went back quite a few times. It felt like there was a gap, then like something was jammed and I couldn't floss. The final fix from her on this was to jam something like sandpaper through it so I could floss, but the pain remained. Compare this pain to #3 and this is a walk in the park. IF YOUD LIKE TO BE IN PAIN BY ALL MEANS GO HERE. You'll be in pain you'd never imagine and a bite that'd make you never want to chew again. read more

A SINCERE THANK YOU! Thursday morning, I boarded the first leg from LGA to IAH of my Austin getaway weekend. Upon reaching altitude, my rear right molar, which had a root canal about 15 years ago, started to hurt. I mean HURT. I think I chewed up 6 cups of ice HURT. I had a connection in Houston, during which time I was able to snag the very last appointment available on a Thursday, anywhere in Austin, before Good Friday, at 6:30 PM with Dr. Johnson. Upon arrival, I was in so much pain, I could barely focus on tasks before me. The staff saw my frail state and did all they could to make me as comfortable as possible, even if it was their kind words at the moment. It turned out that my 15+ year old root canal began acting up. My pain and distress was so high at the time, that I almost demanded Dr. Johnson pull my tooth on the spot. She had a cool head, and convinced me to plow through my agony and pain, to understand it was a bad instinctual decision. Thank you for that. Dr. Johnson, and her staff did the next best thing. I was prescribed some more serious pain medication, antibiotics to treat the symptoms, and a whole-hearted promise to get me in to see an Endodontist as soon as possible. The night was rough, no sleep was had as my situation worsened. At 8am, like a lost puppy, I was right back at Dr. Johnson's office. She was there, as well as her staff, who saw the broken spirit and pain in my eyes. I didn't know what else to do, but they did. They found an endodontist that was ready to take me in at 11:15 am that same day... Good Friday. And that's there this review ends. Dr. Johnson and staff were amazing. As soon as the new root canal heals, I'm heading back to Dr. Johnson to all my dental needs. Oh, and my friends and family will also be (politely) PUSHED to her practice as well. I hate writing bad reviews. I have been seeing DDS Johnson since about 2013, when she first opened her practice. I really like her she was great. Within the last few months I made an appointment for enamel falling off and chipping and was ruff in the edges. I got a call from her staff that Johnson double booked my appoint and possibly wouldn't be taking care of my tooth pain. I explained to the front desk that was extremely unprofessional and rude, I cancelled my appointment and told them I would see another dentist, and I did. I have received several calls that I have missed my routine teeth cleaning. This morning I spoke to Monica and explained to her why I will not return to Johnson. Monica said she would take me off the list and was laughing as if I was stupid and over reacting. Guys, it is SO HARD to find a dentist that you trust. They're either crooks, slackers, or just uninterested. It's taken me almost 3 years to find a dentist I really like and trust in Austin. With that being said, you can imagine my uneasiness when trying a new dentist. I came here because 1. it is .8 miles away from my house and 2. it had pretty good reviews on Yelp. I showed up 30 mins early to make sure everything with my insurance was ironed out, and it was which was very relieving. The ladies at the front desk were super sweet and helpful. I was taken to the back to get some x-rays and then my hygienist came to get me. I don't remember the name of the hygienist but she was pretty nice. She informed me of what she was doing before she did it. I felt cared for and at ease, which is a huge thing for me because i have dental anxiety. She was very thorough with the cleaning and let me know when I was bleeding. She even offered headphones if I was uncomfortable with the sound of the scraping, I respectfully declined but thought it was a nice gesture. Then the dentist came to see me, Dr Johnson. She was very sweet and to the point. I wasn't really able to ask questions it felt like, but I was pretty comfortable so I didn't have too many. I just had my first appointment consultation. Ive had so many accident that caused trauma to my teeth so ive had many root canals, crowns and implants. Now im 55 and everything fell apart. I knew this consult would be very expensive. I really the doctor a lot. I walked by Wellness dental while going to get something to eat. Talk about divine intervention. As I am new to the area and needed some major dental work done I made an appointment for the following day. The staff is friendly, welcoming and professional. They took the time out to talk with me and help me to ease my fears of having my procedures done. I was very embarrassed because of the amount of dental work needed however they made me feel at ease and did not make me feel bad about my current dental health. Be VERY careful with this business. Upon being told MULTIPLE TIMES that my wife and I would not have to pay anything out-of-pocket because our insurance was "in-network," we received a bill in the mail for over $100. When I called to ask about it, the office manager very rudely told me that it wasn't there fault, but the insurance's fault so they weren't going to pay for it. Instead of calling the insurance to have them re-run it because of the mistake, they decided just to bill us for it and not tell us about the mistake. I wonder how many times they have done this to their other customers? I asked if they would just write-off the $100+ since it wasn't our fault and they refused to do so. Finally, after much going back and forth the office manager told me she would give me a call the next morning. Not only did she not call back, but I even called 2 more times throughout the day to try and talk with her, but they kept telling me she was busy and that she would give me a call later. It wasn't until 2 days later that my wife, not even me the husband who had been dealing with this for 2 days, got an email from the dentist office saying that they would write off the bill. I was excited, but the next line in the email told my wife that we had to find another practice for our dental care. WHAT? Seriously? Why? Because we know how insurance works and that you can't squander people out of their hard-earned money? As someone who got a degree in Public Relations, I have to say that I am shocked that a company would go through this much trouble just to save themselves over $100. The $100+ was a lot to us, but shouldn't be worth taking a PR hit for this company. I hope they become a case study of what not to do to a customer. If they would've just written the bill off I would've written an exceptional review on Yelp, but instead I just have to be brutally honest with how our experience was because I don't want anyone else to have to go through what we went through. I do want to mention that the staff and head dentist, Dr. Johnson, were extremely kind when we went there. The office and equipment were a bit out-of-date, but everything was very professional. We truly thought we had found the place we would use as our dentist office for years to come and bring our children here as well. But nope, I guess $100+ was more important to them then thousands upon thousands of dollars we would've spent there throughout our time as customers. read more

So, I, like many others, hate going to the dentist. My experience as a child was something like a Blake Shelton song where "he started drillin' before I was numb". But this place recommended by my sister hit the jackpot of being knowledgable, nice, and technologically savvy. Knowledgable: In addition to the pre-consultation discussing my background, the usual examination was very thorough and explained in laymen's terms. Detailed notes are taken. Additionally, the receptionist takes good notes about conversations and returns phone calls promptly. Nice: Everyone there was very nice, from greeting to cleaning. Also, they have water, a keurig, capri-suns and a TV. Excellent way to wait, although I didn't wait for very long. Technologically savvy: The best part! They have a super fancy dancy camera that takes awesome full color photos of your teeth (and the problems with your teeth). If only they had a fancy dancy ray to make my teeth whole and cavitiy free again. Also, they have bluetooth headphones for you to listen to music during your cleaning. No difficult conversations while your mouth is being poked. BONUS STAR: Clean! Extremely sanitary, as you'd want a dentist's office to be. I was thrilled. I'll be back...mostly because I have to, but I'll breathe a little easier next time. read more

She knows what she's doing; she answered all my questions, numbed my sensitive areas (without me having to ask), she's a perfectionist with her work too and i can appreciate her taking that extra time to make sure my teeth are at their best. I'm new to Austin from New York and needed to find a new dentist. I had tried calling a couple of places that didn't have appointments until July or August (it's April right now!), when I realized Wellness Dental was right on my doorstep. I submitted a request online for an appointment in a week's time and got a call back from them to let me know that appointment was scheduled, but if I wanted something sooner they could fit me in tomorrow. So I went in today at 8.30 - the ladies on the front desk were so friendly and helpful, as was everyone else I dealt with. They had already called my insurance and knew all the details, even remembered which procedures I had last year. I had to wait a little while as I had new patient forms to complete, and I was twice offered water, and reminded just to ask if I needed the restroom. I hate going to the dentist, but this felt totally relaxing. The friendly, warm attitude of everyone I dealt with made such a difference. I also have very bad teeth (grew up in the UK, we don't do cosmetic dentistry), and my last dentist in New York - while wonderful at the technical stuff - always made me feel a little ashamed of my imperfect smile. The hygenist and doctor here could not have been nicer, and were also very thorough. I got to look at color pictures from inside my mouth - have never had that before, it's pretty cool. And I got to listen to music on headphones throughout the cleaning. The doctor recommended a mouthguard to me, but rather than trying to sell me an expensive one had me take a picture of what to look for in HEB. After dealing with Manhattan dentists' upcharging and upselling, I loved this attitude. Checking out was quick and easy, and I left feeling better about my teeth and actually looking forward to my next check up. What a great team this place has - so friendly and caring. They will do all the can to put you at ease, she has small nimble hands, even will hide the syringe from people who are afraid of pain. A closet full of clean, soft throw like blankets that match the decor, the studio is bright and shiny, comfortable, everyone smiles and they go out of their way to help you.A team of front office, hygenists and dental assistants and everyone is very capable yet humble. I am so thankful that I went to see DDS Francisca Giple-Johnson because her and her staff made me feel comfortable. The fillings that I had for over 10 years cracked and fell out leaving a huge hole and in pain. I don't do well with the dentist because of past bad experience and I was embarrassed by my teeth, but Wellness Dental made me feel comfortable and unashamed of my teeth. I don't do well with needles, but I will be honest you can't really feel the numbing needle at all. The whole staff is so welcoming when you arrive to when you leave. The Clinic takes patient as a business opportunity. The periodontal cleaning was charged more then a 1000$ for first session, second session still remaining and they would be charging another 1000 for that. I would strongly not recommend that clinic (business). When I spoke about the charges they told me its Insurance that is telling them to charge that outrageous amount just for cleaning. Service is OK nothing outstanding about that. They make a nice plan for me costing insurance about 12000$ and my out of pocket 3000$, I would not even go for my second cleaning appointment, its a shame that our medical system has gown down to mere business opportunity and this clinic is a best example of that. read more

I went in to see Dr. Johnson for invisilign last January mainly because she had flexible hours because in work in construction and can't leave work much. They are open late and Saturdays to help the blue collar peeps!! Once in her office the staff was so nice! Dr. Johnson explains all the options so I was able to understand and make the best choice for my smile. She fixed my underbite and my teeth are so straight!! They included whitening and even filled a few cavities I had in the original price! While the dentist and dental staff were very nice and accommodating, I am having to the work redone and am spending a lot of money to do so. I suppose I shouldn't terribly surprised given some of the trouble the dentist had working on my teeth but I am still disappointed to have to go through this all over again. Based on what I saw, my fillings don't really fit the space, they're bulky and have caused more problems than I started with. I'll admit I have problematic teeth, just a bummer to have my problems "fixed" with more problems. read more

I had the strangest encounter with this office. I visited once last year and was very pleased with Dr. Johnson. However, today I was called once and left a vague message that stated "please call us back about your appointment" and when I was able to call back I was told my appointment had been cancelled. I asked why and was told they called me to see if could come in and hour earlier and since I never responded to them they just assumed I wasn't coming. I explained that I as a teacher I don't have a flexible job to answer calls during the day (as they had called yesterday during my work hours)and as a mother I had also secured childcare for the appointment I had scheduled and confirmed I would be attending. Super odd. Apparently the hygienist left early, which I sorta get. The appt is on a Saturday, but just seems like an unprofessional practice to drop your client on the spot like that. If you have a flexible life and schedule this place is great. Won't be coming back here! read more
