I first came to Dentistry on Officers Row as a 20 year old who never had proper dental care growing up and was determined to give that to myself as an adult. I trusted these people. I desperately needed braces, and I loved that this place provide provided both dental and orthodontic care. I spent a lot of time and most of my young adult income having my teeth "fixed" here. It wasn't until I got in a relationship with a dentist and also started working in dentistry myself that I realized the permanent damage that has been done due to going here. I knew nothing about dental care when I was in my early 20s. They ripped out 7 of my natural, healthy teeth and that's something I can never repair. I don't know why they did that but at the time they told me it was necessary to get my bite aligned. My bite has never, and will never be aligned because they ripped out teeth that I needed. I look at my smile every day and often cry because I shouldn't have so little of teeth on my lower arch. The longer I work in dentistry myself, the more angered I become at the care I received here. Dentistry on Officers Row engages in some of the most reckless and unethical billing behavior I have ever experienced in healthcare. I did not receive a bill. I did not receive an email. I did not receive a voicemail. I did not receive a letter. I learned about this alleged balance only because it was sent straight to collections more than five years after my appointment. At the time of my visit, I was verbally told that my insurance would cover the dental work. After that visit, there was complete silence for years. The office now claims they attempted to contact me multiple times, yet I have no missed calls, no voicemails, and no written notices of any kind. Their failure to communicate is not my responsibility. When questioned, the office attempted to excuse this behavior by blaming COVID-related billing delays. That explanation is absurd. COVID does not justify waiting over five years to bill a patient and then skipping all patient notification to go directly to collections. At this point, that is not a delay. It is negligence. Sending an uncommunicated charge to collections after half a decade is not a clerical error. It is gross incompetence at best and predatory behavior at worst. This action damaged my credit without ever giving me the opportunity to resolve the issue. Even more troubling, this practice operates on Officers Row in Vancouver, Washington, a historic site managed by The Historic Trust, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to public stewardship. It is alarming that a nonprofit associated with community values is hosting a business that treats patients this way. If you value transparency, ethics, or basic professionalism, avoid this office. Verify every insurance claim yourself, keep records indefinitely, and understand that silence does not mean resolution. With this practice, it just means collections may appear years later. read more

I found the dental work of Dr Ryan Bergman to be some of the best I've experienced in the area. Very pleased with his repairs on my teeth. It's a shame their business practices are unethical. Read the other negative reviews, this is apparently a common issue. I received an *additional* bill for dental work almost a year after the services. When I called, it was confirmed that the dental work one year prior WAS paid in FULL with a zero balance at the time of the work. It was also confirmed that they discovered one of their employees was "incorrectly" billing, hence they were coming after the patients, such as myself - a year later and expecting compensation. This is why you have business insurance, and why you vet your employees. This is an internal issue that needs to be taken care of in-house. I told them at the time I would pay, but I would never return as a patient if I did. I was told at that time by the woman on the phone that she would discuss it with them. No call back. 2 years AFTER that bill I've received a letter threatening to send me to collections. I would have happily been a lifetime patient, and my insurance would well have paid tens of thousands over the years for dental - but they can have their $119 and lose my business instead. read more

I'm on my third year with this practice and find their oral education approach informative and easy to implement. My gum health has increased over two years, thanks in part to my hygienist's careful coaching. I hate dentists with the intensity of a thousand suns. I hate going to the dentist more than anything I can think of.... anything! I dread going to the dentist more than a dog dreads seeing the veterinarians office, only I fight harder to stay out of the building. But I don't hate Dr. Ryan Bergman. I should; but I don't. I want to; but I can't. I wanted him to give me a reason to get up and bolt out of that chair with my paper bib flapping behind me like a Louisiana state flag during Hurricane Katrina; but he didn't. He and his wife Suzie have the most un-dentist like dental office I have ever been to. But, c'mon, it's on Officers Row so it's like the coolest location in all of Vancouver (and probably Portland too). Being a dental wimp (not that there is anything wrong with that) is nearly meaningless within the confines of their office. See, Dr. Ryan Bergman, is a dental wimp too, who is a dentist. I've give you a moment to mentally grasp that statement..... (insert muzak version of the "Girl From Ipanema" here) Being a dental wimp means he sympathizes with what you are going through and works on you accordingly. He offers sleep dentistry too in case, like me, you have bigger issues with hands in your mouth. Word on the street is his wife, Suzie, is awesome with the kids. Guess what? I hate going to the dentist. I even steered clear of going to a dentist for YEARS because of how much I hated it. When I turned 30, I decided it was time to face the music. I though the concept of a husband and wife team (Drs. Ryan and Suzie Bergman) was neat, noticed it was in an awesome craftsman-style house on Officers Row and decided to give it a shot. And now going to the dentist isn't something I hate! I've been four times in total now (not going to the dentist will catch up on you - your Mother is right!) and the care that both Ryan and Suzie have shown has been amazing. It feels as if Ryan puts himself in the chair, in a way, prepping you up front of anything uncomfortable ahead and wants to know what you're feeling. Compared to big-name dental offices, it's incredibly refreshing. The dental assistants are very pleasant (Jeanna is great!) and the front office staff AWESOME (Sally and Debbie rock!) and that actually goes a really long way when it comes to dentistry for this dentist wuss. I can't recommend Dentistry on Officers Row highly enough. read more

Ryan saved me a ton of money by repairing a hurting tooth that other dentists said would need to be pulled... It's now pain free and it only took him 20 minutes! I have been going to the Bergman's for almost two years now and it has been the best experience of any dental office I have been to. Everyone is extremely nice and competent. Both hygienists and gental and thurough. Dr. Ryan made me a night gaurd that prevents snoring and grinding. It is far better then any gaurd I have used in the past. Both doctors and extremely nice and willing to help in anyway they can. Dr. Ryan has to be one of the nicest men alive. I highly recommend this office to anyone scared of the dentist, you will be happy you did. Oh and Dr. Suzie does braces and I am considering straightening my teeth now. read more

I recently moved to Vancouver and am just so impressed with this dentist office. I've had dentists in San Diego and San Francisco and this one is the best - friendly, personable staff that clearly take the time to remember things you tell them. I love that the office is in a historic building on Officer's Row and they seem to have more advanced equipment/technology than my previous dentists. The Bergman's told me I needed a crown, a complete grinding away of my tooth down to a nub, and serious rebuild on another tooth. Cost: $2,500 plus pain and weak artificial teeth. I obtained a second opinion and was told that I had a cavity on one tooth and the other tooth was totally fine. It has now been long enough that I know the crown was unnecessary. Cost: $800 plus one natural tooth and normal filling. I liked the cleanings at the Bergman's. I have wondered if this was a difference of professional opinions rath than an up-sell to do unnecessary work. In either case, I could never trust them again with my mouth. read more

I just moved to WA and was NOT looking forward to trying to find a new dentist. I have seen the same dentist in Colorado since I was 8 years old. I am extremely picky about my teeth and have very high expectations when it comes to my dentist. This dentist office was wonderful. I had x-rays done last time I saw my dentist and every other dentist I spoke to in WA said they would need to retake xrays (which my insurance does not cover). Not this office they called my old dentist and had x-rays sent over. When I arrived everyone was super nice and the building was very nice and clean. The hygienist was very gentle although I prefer a much more thorough cleaning. Overall, she did a good job but not a great job. Once she finished Suzie came in...what a sweeeeetheart! She is the nicest dentist I have ever met. I thought the overall experience was awesome. The only thing that could have made it better is if the cleaning was a little more detailed. read more

I had to have two teeth extracted, one a wisdom tooth. Now I am being fitted for a lower partial and an upper bridge. I have also had my teeth cleaned at the Bergman's office. Everyone I have dealt with, from the front desk reception and the hygenist to Suzie for my initial consultation and Ryan for the extractions, everyone is just wonderful! Friendly and professional to the max. I have very sensitive teeth and have been prepared for the worst. But they are very considerate of my sensitivity issues. They answer all my questions and take time to explain what's happening and what to expect. read more

I cannot say enough great things about the Bergmans & staff! As you can imagine, getting braces on as an adult for the first time is overwhelming but I have never been so happy with my smile and the health of my mouth. After experiencing pain in my jaw & feeling unhappy about how my teeth looked I decided to go forward with braces with Dr. Suzie. I was really hesitant to start but her passion, kindness, and VERY gentle touch got me excited about the possibilities of having the smile I had always dreamed of. Through out my treatment over the next 2 years, her and the staff were absolutely wonderful and really put me at ease. In addition, I received 6 veneers for my front teeth after my braces came off from Dr Ryan. I really felt like he heard my concerns and fears of having a lot of teeth done all at the same time and how they would look when I was finished. He took a lot of time to get them just right and was more than happy to answer all of my questions. The staff was also very helpful and friendly. I went to the Bergmans for an initial exam for the airforce reserves. The military recommended this place, and you know they love to spare no expense. I don't know how expensive the bergmans are compared to other dentists, but I got a good vibe when I entered the beautifully restored army officers house. This thing looks amazing. The staff was all pleasant, and Suzie was very nice to talk to. I would return again. In fact I was thinking of returning to get some braces to straighten up my teeth. Thanks guys! read more

I have been going to them for 2 years now and I am totally satisfied with their work. On my first visit they identified and filled a cavity that my old dentist had missed for 2 years. I know this because it hurt to floss there for 2 years and my old dentist couldn't identify the problem. Immediately after my first visit it no longer hurt to floss there (and I had not told them I had that problem). Jamie has helped me out in telling me what I need to do for good checkups in the future for which I am grateful. Ryan goes the extra mile to make sure I am satisfied with his work and I have had some rather complicated work. My experience there has been great and I would highly recommend Ryan & Suzie Bergman to anyone who is looking for a dentist. read more

The dentists here are super friendly during cleanings but they do a hard upsell on work that is expensive and not necessary. They pressured me into work on 2 teeth that were having no pain and had healthy roots, both of which were in extreme pain after the procedures and ended up requiring root canals due to the trauma caused to the nerves in addition to pain caused in my jaw and nearby teeth as a result of multiple poor bite adjustments. Sally at the front desk is extremely unfriendly and unprofessional if you need anything other than to schedule. I called the emergency line and left messages twice with no response whatsoever and in the end got no response to my concerns about the ongoing problems caused or any assistance with the solution. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. In summary, 2 months of my summer lost to extreme pain, 8+ appointments between specialist visits and adjustments to 2 previously healthy teeth and thousands of $$ out of my pocket have left me appalled that I ever went to them in the first place. read more

The dental office is located in an old house on Officer's Row in Vancouver, It smells like something between an old house and a dental office....not very appealing. The hygienist that cleaned my teeth did a mediocre job. She didn't spend a lot of time and I didn't think she was very thorough. I saw Dr. Susie for the exam. She was nice but in a phony sort of way. The entire time she was doing the exam she was giving me a sales pitch about all the services they offer. I will not be returning. read more

I was dentist shy after many years of bad work and I had a massive amount of work to be done. I was no stranger to mouth trauma. Dr. Ryan was recommended by several friends and I decided to give him a chance. The best thing I ever did for my oral health, my peace of mind and my smile. He explained everything, took extra care for my comfort, set up an action plan to fix my sad mouth and let me make decisions on the time frame, since my $$ options were limited. A few years later, holy cow! I am not embarrassed by my teeth, nothing hurts and it feels like a party every time I go to the dentist. I can truly say that I no longer am anxious about going to the dentist. It's never fun, and I am not a fan of the dental hygiene part, but this is the best decision I have made in a long time. I had it all: extraction, implant, bridgework. None of it unnecessary or for cosmetic purposes. Just so I could get on with my life. I play the clarinet and my priority was to be able to continue in the midst of all of the work. Done with class..thank you. I would highly recommend this office to anyone. read more

Pain, drilling, pain....what is good about going to the dentist? I can say that I am still of that mind set....but I have now been to see Dr. Bergman three times in the last six weeks and I can now say that you can go to the dentist and have the experience be pain free. I put off going to the dentist office for the last 14 years...yep 14! I knew I had a cavity in my wisdom tooth, but refused to go until I had no other choice...that day came seven weeks ago....the tooth broke and I was left needing to go. I called several offices after talking to friends, co-workers and looking on yelp...I decided to try Dr. Bergman...he claims to be a dental wimp (he really is, so count on him relating to you as you sit in that chair with your hands in fists waiting for that first hint of pain) and that was exactly what I was looking for. The first visit was easy, but it was just to see what was going on...I expected that I would have to have the tooth pulled, but he said he could fix it....REALLY!!!! I went back a week later and sat in the chair dreading the first injection...they numb you so well with the numbing gel that I can say that I do not remember feeling it! The appointment took a really long time, but I walked out of there and never felt any discomfort from the dental work...not including the injection point (not sure why you feel that later). He warned me that there may be discomfort later as the work was really close to the root...did not feel a thing and still have not. I went back again this week and had the other side worked on....same results just less time! I have recommended him to several of my co-workers and even though I still hate the thought of going to the dentist, that feeling is starting to fade. He explains every option to you, tells you the least invasive way to proceed and lets you choose. He also gives you tips on how to help things like sensitivity of your teeth (there is an option other than the dentist believe it or not and it is not a specialized toothpaste) If you had a bad experience before, suffer from fear or just really hate the idea of that injection or drilling I would strongly suggest giving them a chance. I have no idea what the cost is, my insurance handles most of it and I have not gotten a bill yet, but right now I feel like I can handle it...again I have not gotten the bill so that may change :o) read more
