Dr. Mahoney sent me to a specialist to see if a tooth had a crack in it. A year later he tried to send me again for the same reason. Unaware of medical records He wanted to pull the tooth. It didn't need to be pulled. They couldn't take care of a root canal or crown either. Office people made an appointment with me and dropped it after I waited a month. Argued and tried to justify the mistake instead of apologizing. Wouldn't let me talk to their office manager to find out why this happened. I'm going to find another dentist. read more

I am temporarily working in the Vancouver, WA area and needed to visit a dentist for a regular cleaning. My work schedule has me traveling quite a bit so I had limited flexibility with scheduling. I called several dentists and their schedules were all booked. Main Street Dentistry was able to squeeze me in, perform an initial consultation, and a full cleaning. Dr. Mahoney was awesome. He reviewed my X-Rays and examined my teeth (no issues). My hygienist was also great -- very thorough and provided feedback without making me feel like I was somehow not doing a good job with my dental hygiene. The office is super clean and modern. I felt really comfortable throughout the entire procedure, and I didn't feel like anyone was trying to upsell me on whitening products or other cosmetic services that are "nice to have" but unnecessary for healthy teeth. I'm sorry I will be leaving the area. It's hard to find a great dentist. At some point I hope to return to Vancouver. When I do, I will happily return to Main Street Dentistry. read more

I went to Main Street dentistry for a series of dental work. This was supposed to include a root canal on a tooth with an active infection that was causing nerve pain in the roots. I had the root canal and the man who did the root canal did a wonderful job. After the procedure he told me there may be increased pain because of the infection still being near the roots and he told me that if advil and Tylenol didn't do enough to cover the pain to call the office for pain medication. The pain is over the top so I called the office to try to get 10 or 12 percocet to get me through and they said they would have to talk to the doctor. I called back several hours later and the woman told me that she heard from the doctor and they said to use ice and advil and that they would not be prescribing anything. I told her to freeze my account and that I would be going to another office to have the crown put on and the remainder of my dental work done. She asked why and I told her that you can go to any street corner and buy opiates but you go in to get a dental procedure and when you experience terrible pain you hear from your doctor that they won't give you a humane supply of pain meditation. She responded with saccharin sweetness which was only meant to veil sarcasm which was very clear in her voice. Please don't go to this dental office. They will leave you in pain and give you a condescending, horrible inhumane reaction when you ask for help. Edited to add: I called back to get the email address for the doctor who owns the clinic his name is doctor Mahoney. The same woman I talked to earlier told me that it was their policy not to give his email address out and that I had to go through her. She is the same person who has been relaying these messages to me. Keep in mind that if you go to this office and you have a problem they will not allow you to talk to the doctor. Edited to add: A full week after refusing to give me pain medication and after I submitted the same review I submitted on Yelp directly to their office, the doctor who did my root canal called me. I believe his name is Dr. Womack. He said that he felt he put Dr. Mahoney in a bad position because it isn't generally their policy to give pain meds after a root canal but in my case he offered them to me because of the active infection and Dr.Mahoney didn't know that. This was not my surgeon's fault. Doctor Mahoney made the decision to deny me pain medication and if he had simply read my chart he would have seen that there was an active infection and I was offered pain medication because of the infection. It was my impression and again this was just my impression, and not a statement of fact, that Dr. Mahoney pushed my doctor to take responsibility for something that he had nothing to do with. While on the phone, my doctor also offered to write me a pain medication prescription which made no sense because it was a week later and I wasn't in pain any more, which I told him. My impression (opinion, not statement of fact) was that he was put up to this as well and that Dr. Mahoney had his own reasons for asking my surgeon to offer pain meds a week after I had surgery and would obviously no longer need them. I believe that Doctor Mahoney used a broad brush and painted me as a drug seeker without taking 2 minutes to look at my chart. If I were a drug seeker, I would have taken him up on the offer to get pain medication a week later. Clearly, he called it wrong. If Dr Mahoney had simply called me and apologized for HIS error I would have taken my review down and gone back to their practice because it tells me a lot about character when someone owns their mistakes but the doctor did nothing but drive a nail in the coffin when he tried to take his mistake and put it on someone who works for him. read more

Emailed this office with questions in regards to my insurance and their procedures. They answered them and got me an appt for a few weeks away. I requested to be on the cancellation list and was awarded a same day appointment just a few days later. Appt time was 3pm, was x-rayed and had the hygienist helping me by 3:05. By 4pm I had taken all necessary photos. received a cleaning, a schedule and plan for my issues, and a referral to an ortho to start on my braces. Didn't pay a single dollar out of pocket. Couldn't of asked for a better experience besides a post cleaning beer. Felt the need to leave this after seeing the previous 1 star reviews that don't do this place any justice. 5/5 Would recommend. read more

I went in for a cleaning that I never got. I feel that bait and switch is the game. On my cleaning it started with x-rays which I thought was odd. More x-rays than I have had for larger procedures. I even asked the tech to make sure, I said "my appointment was for a cleaning right?" This is for making evaluation I'm told. So I sat through. In the end they recommend a deep cleaning. By then i was passed, they did not clean anything and told me I needed to come back for a more extensive cleaning. When measuring the gums the numbers were 1s and 2s. I believe that main st dental is more interested in drumming up more billable charges than anything else. After not receiving my cleaning I will NOT return. If you can not complete what I came in for I will not return. Sorry I ever came here. I will be going elsewhere. read more

**DO NOT SEE DR. BRIAN MAHONEY** I just want to preface this by saying I have never had a bad dental experience in my life, through multiple fillings, teeth being pulled, and years of orthodontal work- until I visited Main Street Dentistry at 3512 Main St in Vancouver, WA.  I had two previous fillings at this location, and very professionally performed by Dr. Warnock. Dr. Warnock had told me at the time of my previous appointment, that the final filling would be a much easier fix. When I came in for my final filling, however, I ended up being scheduled with DR. BRIAN MAHONEY. Right off the bat, it seemed to me that he was in a bad mood. He was curt, and didn't ask me if I had questions prior to beginning. In fact, he started the procedure immediately after a quick 'hi'. He swabbed with local anesthetic, and immediately administered the procaine. It was painful, as the local anesthetic hadn't soaked in yet, but I shrugged it off. He left the room, and returned, to immediately start drilling. In all of my previous dental experiences, the dentists and hygienists would inform me prior to executing any procedure, explain what they're seeing and also verify that I'm doing OK.  However, DR. MAHONEY was silent for nearly the entire procedure. He hit a painful spot once, of which I raised my hand to notify him. He didn't stop until I started moaning from the pain and waved my hand. He said he wanted to try a different drill, and then continued on. I noticed, at this point, that the drilling duration was longer than any other cavity fillings I had undergone, and I was feeling uncomfortable. A moment later, he again hit the painful spot; I again waved my hand, he paused briefly, and then immediately hit the same spot again. I then asked him why this seemed to be taking longer and why he was drilling deeper than I had been previously told was necessary, and I asked for a break. Immediately after my request and without answering my questions, he attempted to continue working. I then repeated my request for a break and held my hands in front of my face to keep him from continuing. Through all of this, neither he nor the dental assistant asked whether I was OK, offered a tissue, or gave any explanations to my inquiries. After lowering my hands, he responded with "I think we're done drilling now", and in total silence he finished the procedure quickly and brashly. Tears were streaming down my face by this time. In less than half the time he spent drilling, he filled the cavity, set it, and polished it. As he left the room, he told me over his shoulder "You will likely have sensitivity for up to three days."  Only at this point did the dental assistant ask if I was OK, and claimed "The cavity was deeper than it had looked on the X-ray." I have never felt so violated by a dentist. I'm concerned about the quality of the filling, and will be visiting a different dentist at a different dental practice to ensure that it was completed appropriately. The entire experience was a total shock to me, as my previous visit was pleasant, and I've always enjoyed my time with all of my previous dentists. DR. BRIAN MAHONEY clearly lacks the professionalism necessary to do this job responsibly and respectfully. I am extremely disappointed, and hope that I can help others avoid this kind of traumatic experience. read more

However as soon as I walk in the office I was greeted by some really nice ladies behind the desk ,they were super nice and made me feel comfortable. The entire staff was super nice and made me feel at ease. My dentist was super nice and give me tons of choices on my dental work. These guys are fantastic. So far - knock on wood - I have not walked out of their office owing any money because they do such a good job at billing insurance, and keeping track of what is and isn't covered. More importantly, they do a great job. All the hygienists that have worked on me have been top notch. Dr. Mahoney is great, as well as his other dentists (I've met one other, but forget his name). All very friendly and professional. After my last dentist, who I really liked, closed up shop, I was pretty worried about who I found next. I lucked out finding Main Street Dentistry. read more

At first, I thought the fact that ALL of the work of Dr. Mahoney coming out while eating one year later was happenstance. I had actually decided to not go back bc of a strange comment that he made in which he requested we, "use up all of your available insurance coverage before the first of the year hits". With that, he gave me a long list of dental work needed. Just today, I happen to be talking to my best friend who told me a horror story about multiple caps coming out within months of getting them (once just by brushing her teeth). I was stunned to find out it was Dr. Mahoney. Clearly, there is a pattern. She and I agreed to Yelp to save others money and pain. She kept going back all year so has a much longer horror story. We both realized that his work was so crappy, that we couldn't even get floss in between the fillings. I almost lost faith in all dentists but luckily found someone that listens, gives options, and generally cares. I might add that his attitude is very cavalier. It's pretty obvious that he could care less about you or your finances. That's just a small afterthought. read more

My wife and I went here after seeing they were well reviewed and our dental insurance is taken there, but we will not go back. I have two gripes: philosophy and inconvenience. By philosophy I mean their approach to dentistry is that every customer will make the dentist's boat payment every visit by finding "problems" that don't actually need solving and then trying to get paid for them. My mouth is in good shape, as I've had regular care from dentists and both floss and brush on my own. My previous dentist told me that my mouth was boring and gave him precious little to bill for. In my first and only exam here, though, the dentist magically found 8 "cavities" that needed filling in my mouth and 9 in my wife's. As he highlighted the areas in question on the X-rays, I honestly didn't see what he was talking about. Essentially, the areas he identified as needing $5,000 worth of work are areas that don't have cavities yet, may never have cavities, but might one day have cavities. Only one of these (a cracked filling) was a needed procedure, and I object to activist dentistry. My wife has subsequently gotten a second opinion, and the second dentist said she only needs 1 crown, which she does. By inconvenience I mean that this is the first dentist I've seen that made me come back twice for the exam and cleaning that every other dentist gets done in one visit. When they scheduled me, they knew in advance that they would break up the procedures into two visits, but did not tell me. I had to take off work twice instead of once, which is annoyingly inconvenient. When I told them that I did not appreciate that, they were quick to whip out Starbucks gift cards, which tells me they get this kind of complaint a lot and are ready to hand out the freebies. The staff was okay, not particularly friendly or rude. I also knew the visit wasn't going to go well when some of the first words out of the dentist's mouth were that he could sell me prescription toothpaste, indicating his interest in money over patient care. read more

*Always verify copay and services to be performed at check-in* *Don't expect a quick response from the 'after-hours' emergency number* I cracked a tooth bad enough that it needed removed. I scheduled it for a few weeks out on a Friday so it wouldn't interfere with my work schedule (it wasn't hurting, just needed pulled). On the Tuesday before my scheduled appointment, I received a verification text for a Thursday appointment, not Friday as scheduled. I called to verify it was now Thursday and not Friday, as well as to verify that we were only pulling the tooth and was told yes, only the extraction. The schedule change didn't matter at this point as I had lost my job a few days prior. I arrived, had the tooth removed, then went to the front desk expecting to only pay my insurance co-pay, so imagine my surprise when the receptionist said I needed to pay nearly $500. I said, "That much, I thought I was only paying the co-pay." Not only did the receptionist I was talking to say, "Yes, that is the correct, your insurance does not cover all the services you had preformed," another woman in the office stood up from her desk and said, "We discussed your treatment, that is what is due at time of service." I felt talked down to, and a bit embarrassed as there was another person standing in line behind me who no doubt could hear everything being said. I produced my credit card and paid the bill as I didn't want to cause any more embarrassment for myself. Services were performed so I paid the bill. Yes, during a previous visit we discussed the options moving forward such as an implant, a bridge ect., but due to my job loss I had asked during the appointment verification that we were only removing the tooth and not the additional services they performed. The second reason for the 1 star review, was the dentist said as he was finishing up placing the bone grafting material, (which I didn't realize was an additional cost, I thought it was part of general removal proces, we wern't doing an implant which is where I thought extra cost might come in), "If you notice anything beyond a few particles that feel like sand, or experience any unusual pain, call the after hours number and I'll meet you here and check it out. The next day, Friday, I felt what seemed to be a lose string coming from the site of the removal but didn't think much about it, I simply tried avoiding chewing on that side and tried to ignore the string. On Saturday afternoon, 2 days later, I felt something like a sack or wad of slimy gauze falling out. I called the after-hours number at about 6pm, no answer, then I called again about 30 minutes later and still no answer. Sunday morning about 9:30 I finally received a call-back. I'm glad I wasn't in pain as it could have been a long night had it of been painful. I was scheduled for Monday to have the tooth removal site checked. Luckily, the pouch was only a gel pack that had fallen out and not something more serious. read more

The original doctor and staff seemed great. However it appears that he must've retired and sold his practice off. I get my teeth cleaned every 90 days and for the last five visits there is been new staff each time. Now they have a policy whereby they want to upsell you needless services. Plus they have a ridiculous program now whereby they want to take your blood pressure as if they are MDs or something. It's a complete joke in a waste of time. I let them know politely that I would pass on the blood pressure test. The doctors response was that he was going to insist I take it. I told him that it was my decision as I stood up from the chair to grab my jacket and left. Not only is this blood pressure thing a complete joke they also have another program whereby they have a recorded voice call your phone in order to remind you that you have an appointment. I think it's pretty universal that nobody wants to be called by a recording. Nothing like wasting peoples time needlessly. Complete miss management on the new staffs part as not only will I not be returning neither will my other four family members. read more

Today is just another example why we have been with Brian and his staff for so long. While away, at her father's funeral, my wife had a crown come off. We e-mailed the office from out of town letting them know what had happened. When we got home we called the office and they contacted Tamara and she agreed to meet my wife, the next day, on Saturday afternoon to repair the crown. This was on Saturday the 30th when the office was closed. Tamara knew we were leaving for three months New Years Eve morning at 0400 and there was no way we could wait. I can't say enough about Dr. Brian Mahoney and the entire crew. While I wouldn't go so far as to say it's as wonderful as a Caribbean cruise, I will say I always feel comfortable and relaxed when I go there. Dr. Mahoney is knowledgeable, gentle, and efficient. The hygienists I have had (at this time, Carla) have followed suit by doing a fine job of keeping me on track with tooth and gum health, and the staff is just super. Made an appointment for a dental hygienist, for a general teeth cleaning and polishing. Once there 15 minutes before appointment the entire staff was in a meeting and had to wait. I was not looking for a new Dentist and made this clear on the phone when I made the appointment, that all I wanted was a teeth cleaning. They insisted on a complete medical history, just to clean the teeth. No Dentist check up. They would not clean my teeth without my complete medical history. Why they are data mining such information whereby there would be no informed medical consent, on any medical matters is beyond me. There excuse was liability reasons. They did not know they were talking to a lawyer. They were obvious conflating their office policy as law. Any liability is contained to the limitations of the procedure that was being sought, and preformed by a dental hygienist. I have no medical history nor have I every had a cavity or wisdom teeth pulled. Needless to say I walkout, and the receptionist in a sarcastic voice told me to have a nice day; after they wasted the beginning of my morning. read more
