Depaolas is a small local pub in Arbutus, I thought I would experience a friendly small town environment but I got quite the opposite. My visit started out mediocre with a watered down orange crush from the happy hour menu, and a basket of under cooked and less than crispy fries. It only grew worse when my order of garlic Parmesan wings came out absolutely drenched in grease and smothered with globs of garlic paste. The celery next to the wings were droopy and soggy from the frying grease that seeped onto them. When we complained about he food after not touching or eating a single bite of it, the person there refused to take it off of our bill. This place was really something. We had dinner reservations in Elkridge and were looking for somewhere to relax with a drink beforehand. This place was NOT that place, but we did have a great time! The best way to explain its appeal is to say that it felt like being in someone's living room. For example, I asked for a beer list. They didn't have one. Then they pointed to a row of dusty bottles on a high shelf, above the television screens. "See those bottles?" I nodded. "We probably don't have any of those." They laughed, and actually, I did too. They were just being honest, in the same way that you might offer a guest tap water because you don't have anything in the fridge. So I ordered a dirty martini. They hemmed and hawed and searched the back and came up with a jar of olives that looked frighteningly ancient. No vermouth, but at this point I was just hoping for a drink, any drink. It wasn't bad, and by the time I finished it they had found the vermouth, and they told me there were still two olives in the jar, so I could totally order another one! Again, that friends-and-family atmosphere, increased by the fact that one of the bartenders was complaining loudly about his girlfriend's latest high-maintenance episode. Meanwhile, my husband went with a safe draft choice -- Stella, maybe? -- and, a little hungry, asked about their appetizers. They brought him a menu that looked totally different from the one on the website. It had something called Bird Balls on it, which he inexplicably wanted to try. Basically, it was fried creamed chipped beef, which tastes exactly like it sounds. He actually ate them; I tried a bite and deemed it an unsuccessful experiment. Were it not for the camaraderie here, this place would get one star. But, and I kind of can't believe I'm about to say this, I would totally go back for the entertainment value! read more

You would probably pass this place without even thinking of this pub place serving any food. But try their wraps and shrimp salad and onion rings, and you would be amazed. If this place could garner more publicity for the food they serve, I believe it would become a success. Over the past year, this place has come a long way and has become one of my regular spots! The beer is cold, the food is great and the friends are better! My favorites are the chicken fingers, cheesesteak and ANY of the burgers! They also have wonderfully fresh salads for those looking for something lighter! The Natty Boh is on draft and is always a great choice! If you're going in for trivia, make sure to arrive early- it's a popular spot! We are usually pleased with DePaola's and never have any issues but this concerns their crab dip. We got the crab dip as a to go order. It was so salty which made it really hard to eat. If you are able to get pass the saltiness it seems like it would have a really great flavor. I feel like if they could omit some salt it would be amazing. But needless to say we wasted $13.00 bc it was super hard to eat. read more

After my good friend had been talking about how good the burgers were at DePaola's, I was sure to be let down to some extent. I was wrong. I had the honey goat burger. It was FANTASTIC! Good size patty, cooked perfectly, and full of flavor. I'm a burger guy and eat burgers regularly. And this was easily one of the best burgers I've had. I will make it a point to return soon to try another one of their signature burgers. Service was good and with a smile. Drink stayed filled. I came with a few friends for trivia night. I ordered the triple smoke burger and Mac and cheese bites. The burger came out okay but the fries were cold. The Mac and cheese bites were good. The service was friendly but very slow. We had to move the tables around when we got there because the seating was very cramped and when we did the tables had a later of grease under them. When I went to the bathroom only one stall was open and it didn't even have a lock. I wouldn't recommend this place unless you have really low standards. read more

One of my favorite dive bars for happy hour! They were so accommodating of my dietary needs, I don't eat meat and they suggested 2 fried tomatoes in place of a patty and it worked out perfect! The fried pickles were tasty, they use a tempura style batter so it's really light and crunchy. The hot sauce that came with the Mac and cheese bites is made in house and has a nice kick. We went there for trivia night tonight (Thursday nights) and apparently they now have a $10 minimum per person at the table that needs to spent. We got there a bit late and our 5 friends had already gotten a table. Our friends told us about this new policy and that they were told this after they first ordered, which they were not happy about. After my boyfriend and I got to the table, they told us that the tab needed to be $70. My boyfriend and I were planning on buying a few beers and not spend $20 between us, so we told them we were leaving. We do not plan to ever return. Side note: there were definitely empty seats, including a whole table next to the table we were at. Also, the place seemed to be less crowded than previous trivia Thursday's, probably because of this new policy. read more

My boyfriend and I are new to the area and went into this local pub last evening to check it out-seeing as we live within walking distance to it....we were very pleased with everything! Good food (though I would like to see more options maybe) and a great atmosphere! The waitress was attentive, the bouncer was friendly and not one of those big beefy meat heads just looking to throw around some drunks, and the drinks were yummy and priced fairly. My only complaint was that the touch tunes was old and didnt have an app option for me to control the music (haha but its no big deal tho). I liked how there were 2 toilets in the private womens room, seeing as everyone knows us girls travel in packs. 5 stars and I'll def be coming back! read more

This is my absolute favorite neighborhood bar. Everything I've eaten has been outstanding (go for the Triple Smoke burger or BBQ chicken pizza) and the staff couldn't be more friendly. Lots of TVs, really affordable food and drink prices, and team games Wednesday and Thursday nights. read more

I want to start off by saying I had the nicest waitress there was, she was friendly, kind, and sweet. With that being said the environment wasn't too friendly with people staring at me every chance they got, made it hard to enjoy my meal. Thank goodness for my beer. The food here is really solid bar food. Good burgers, great fries, and the happy hour wing special is a good deal. Service is hit or miss (I always sit at the bar, not sure what table service is like.) The ladies who work in the afternoon are consistently friendly and I've never waited long to order or have a drink refilled. The evening though can be tricky. It always seems like there are too many bartenders, and yet it is somehow a struggle to get anything. My suspicion is that if they were limited to 1-2 per shift and didn't also have the servers randomly strolling back there, things would be better - with too many back there, there seems to be an assumption that someone else must have already checked in on you, but no one asks to be sure. But, since no one has actually asked my opinion on that matter, I'll continue to just come here early and leave by 7. read more

The owner decided the O's game was more important to patrons than the open mic. He wouldn't let us play in the bar area where everyone else was sitting (this was our normal spot). He started us an hour late and shoved us into a room that was undergoing renovation. Totally his decision, but left many of us upset because he advertise something that he didn't provide. This place used to be really good, but the food has become very expensive (and not good) and the service wasn't great. We ordered the garlic Parmesan wings and when they came they were covered in grease. So good bar food and wings but some of the worst service in the area. When we eat there they invariably lose part of our order or just ignore the fact that we asked for something. Today I ordered food for takeout and the bartender told me it would be 30 minutes. Show up after 35 minutes and it appears there is an issue. As it turns out the bartender tells me it will be a bit longer because the kitchen didn't see my ticket. I ask how much longer and she says 20-30 minutes. No thanks. I vote with my wallet. Last three previous trips were dine in and didn't go much better. So no more attempts at enjoying Depaulo's in Arbutus. read more

Came as a big party to quickly eat and return to the second part of a viewing for the passing of my great grandfather. Over 2 hours later and some people still hadn't gotten their food. My food came out cold. Appetizers came out 45 mins after the actual food which was already late. Finally, they ran out of chicken and one of us was forced to pick something else to order 2 HOURS LATER.No one ever asked if any of us needed a refill and some people didn't even get a drink they ordered minutes after we walked in. I came here for a burger and fries on recommendation of a couple friends, I received very nice costumer service. First problem was I waited almost 35 minutes for a medium cooked burger, the kitchen was not busy with orders. I got home and started to eat it and my burger was well done and dry and my fries were completely limp and soggy. Burger had decent taste, fries had greatt flavor, too bad they were under cooked. In general, the food is pretty good. It's your basic bar food from wings to burgers. The beer selection is rather lackluster for a place touting itself as a pub. My biggest complaint is their complete disregard for their patrons comfort. They don't have a working AC unit so on a 90-degree day it's as warm inside as it is outside. THE WORST SERVICE I HAVE EVER HAD!! went to try "brunch" at DePaolas yesterday 2/28/16 with 6 of my friends and we cancelled half our food and left. It took about 10-15 minutes to get either a beer poured, mimosa made or bloody mary. (note not everyone came in at once, so only had 2 drinks to handle at a time). After only 4 mimosas made they notified us that they had no more champagne. We ordered food. TOOK ALMOST AN HOUR AND A HALF TO GET 3 OF OUR 6 ENTREES!!!! (only ordered cream chip beef (3), eggs over eazy (2), pancakes (1) and omlet (1). Those 3 plates came out 1 at a time with about 15 minutes in between each. NONE OF THESE SHOULS HAVE TAKEN MORE THEN 15 MINUTES TO MAKE!! OHHH ALSO, THERE WAS ONLY 6 OTHER PEOPLE IN THE ENTIRE PLACE!!!!!!! So we canceled half our meals and the waitress was mad AT US!! like it was our fault. We would ask where our drinks were after we ordered them 10 minutes ago and she GOT FRUSTRATED WITH US! there was 4 people working at one point and we couldn't get anything in a timely matter. Breakfast potatoes were GREEN and slimey. (looks like seaweed) It freaked me out. So gross. Okay I hope you're ready for this DePaola's cause I'm about to call you all out on your stuff. I went to DePaola's on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 with my girlfriend. Am I also a female? Yes, that means a small cluster of lesbians walked into your business trying to get food in exchange for our hard earned money. Anyway there we are, sitting at our table which we got to at 7:50 (at the latest, I'm probably giving your staff too much credit). A server comes to get our drink order and all was cool, she comes back with menu's but here's where things started to go wrong. Much to the servers surprise we were holding hands at the table. I MEAN HOW DARE WE RIGHT?! After this she didn't come back to our table a single time, but she did make a point to come to our section at least 5 times to serve the other tables. We saw her take other tables orders, bring food, refill drinks, and give tables their checks. But while she was showering the other tables in love, she was blatantly ignoring myself and my girlfriend. Could I be blowing this out of proportion? Ugh, no. She avoided eye contact as we tried time and time again to flag her down. I honestly lost track of how many times we tried to get her attention. At 8:25 we decided enough was enough and my girlfriend, after trying to get any servers attention as they walk by and being ignored yet again, had to go to the bar to get our check. I stay at the table with our things, and then FINALLY our server shows up to take our orders while I am at the table my myself. I told her we were not going to be dining there any longer and that we we getting our check and leaving. But do you know what didn't exist even though we'd been there for nearly 40 minutes? A check or any kind of tab. So then the bar tender had to track down our server, who had not even told us her name to confirm. Then the server, who I won't name because I'm not a total jerk, decides to cover her tracks by lying. She points at the table, me, and my girlfriend and tries to claim our orders weren't taken because the table wasn't occupied. I had been there the entire time. Then she had the audacity to call us liars, saying we had only just gotten to the pub a short time ago, but when had I gathered our belongings and came to my girlfriends aid the server storms into the kitchen where she proceeded to yell about how there was a girl out in the dining area calling her a liar. This was an obvious example of discrimination against two LGBTQ individuals. If you're queer either don't come to DePaola's or hide your identity as hard as you can. If you try to be out in this place you'll be called names, pointed and shouted at, and treated like dirt. read more

Burgers are real good but be warned - the Caprese burger is NOT the same as pictured on the website. The burger pictured had slices of mozzarella and fresh basil. The one I got tonight had shredded mozzarella and pesto. It's not the same. The burger itself was well cooked and juicy but it wasn't what I expected nor what I wanted. I was visiting a friend in Arbutus MD the other day, and he told me about this bar that had opened up a couple years ago. We were hungry and thirsty so we decided to stop by for a meal. The atmosphere was cozy and warm. The room seemed a little small for a bar AND restaurant, but it wasn't a big deal to me. There was a wide variety of people there. College kids to folks around my age. The bartenders were very friendly (and they were tipped accordingly). We ordered a couple drafts and the glasses for nice and big. Beer was only $2 a draft too. When I ordered my food I had underestimated the portions. I got the shrimp snaps and the smoked turkey club, and I couldn't finish either of them. The food was very tasty, and all in all it was a good experience. I look forward to visiting this place again. read more
