I was pleasantly surprised by how large the resort was compared to a few others I have stayed at over the years. Nice beach area with lots of chairs, tons of "cabins" and rooms, lots of activities, a playground, good parking, and connected to a popular breakfast spot. Very friendly staff, clean rooms that were a decent size (we stayed in the deluxe 2 bedroom villa) and housekeeping service if you choose. I liked the touch of having the mini soaps, shampoo and body wash. Felt like a hotel. The reason for 3 stars was because we had a problem with our plumbing one night that resulted in the toilet overflowing and somehow what was in the toilet coming up through the shower drain!! The staff really tried everything to fix it, but unfortunately since it was late at night, they weren't able to. We lucked out and the cabin next to us was just cleaned so they gave us the keys to use that bathroom for the night. The next morning they were able to fix it and had someone come to clean up. Overall, I would come back again. Me and my family had a nice time. And the location in my opinion is ideal. Could only stay one night and barely slept a wink. Parties were all around our cabin. I'm not talking just people up and chatting, but full sound systems thumping bass past sunrise. The cabins are 8 feet apart so the speakers feel like they're in your bedroom. I called the front desk 3 times and nothing improved much. I should've called the police. I needed a get away by the water and was happy to find this lovely resort. When I arrived, I was met at the desk by Reily (spelling). Friendly, sweet and accommodating. She went out of her way to make me feel welcome and part of the family . Bekka saw me off the day I left and was just as sweet. You have 2 very lovely young women working for you. Good choice! The room I got had full view of water. Infact, it was right on the beach. Exactly what I wanted, comfortable bed and a view not to be beat. The apt was furnished with everything I needed and a wonderful big tub to soak in at night. I couldnt have asked for more. So gross!! Stayed in motel. Pretty view but rest was a nightmare. No hot water!! Every day had to run water 30 min or more before it became hot. Bed mattress had no mattress pad and was filthy with blood!!! We paid for a boat slip, 18, but when we went to our boat in slip, they gave our slip to jet skiers , and argued with us because they wouldn't move even though we had paperwork stating it was ours. Well, so did they. They switched us without telling us. I still feel so violated sleeping on that filthy mattress! Spiders webs in corners of room. Location, amenities & grounds are great! The staff is also wonderful- Ryley at the front desk is so knowledgeable and personable. We have yet to have a bad experience and we've already booked our next trip. It's so convenient with the lake right at your doorstep or a short walk away, and if the lake isn't your thing they have a super clean pool with a deep middle and shallow on either end for convenience with littles. There's a small store/deli across the street for anything you may have forgotten and their charcoal & propane grills are clean. We love that while waiting for check in you can get the paperwork done then walk the grounds, hit the park, okay tennis or volleyball or just dip your feet in the lake/pool. There's a lifeguard at the lake and rentals for kayaks. There's also cute stables across the street if you like horses or just want to walk over and visit. We had two back to back great visits. Even on the not so great weather days our family and friends enjoyed themselves. read more

This place has a lot of potential. Unfortunately they don't do any updates, deep cleaning or fix anything. We stayed at the beach cottage- the platform to get into cabin was rotted out and wAs a hazard. The rooms had old gross rugs. The ceiling fan worked but the casing that goes over the bulb was missing. Little fixes and updates would go along way. Our friends stayed in the round house, again the cleaning was limited, deck full of cobwebs, dirt. Rugs again in bedrooms. Grill wasn't cleaned, lawn was high. The beach area has garbage left for days around, no one cleaned the beach my husband actually started grabbing stuff to throw it out. Tennis courts are shot. I wouldn't spend the money to stay here again there are plenty of other places to spend over 2k for the week at. Lake George is saturated with motels and cabin resorts so let me make this easy for you. Over the years we've stayed at multiple locations around the lake as this is our vacation destination. Depe Dene is the perfect place to retreat as a couple or with family. 7 minutes town Square and grocery, 2 minutes to the deli and liquor store, restaurant next door. The private beach is at the end of the property, the kids enjoyed the pool, badminton, the playgrounds, private beach but there's so much more to do besides that and the price was perfect as we booked on the property site. My family (13) of us rented 2 cabins here to have a memorial for our 15yr old son who passed away one year ago. Cabin# 208 has 3 bedroom, was detached, clean, spacious, bed were comfortable, kitchen was equipped, and bathroom had toiletries and enough towels. The porch was my favorite; it was huge and private, It had a large picnic table on it, requested a second one and believe me; the porch was so big it could fit 2 more, and bbq pit at the edge. Nancy, Riley and other staff members were always ready to accommodate our requests. Suite 42 was beautiful, more modern look and style. Perfect view of the lake from the window and because it was at the end of the building, it was more private, plus it was right next to the playground which is perfect for the kids. My son's car tire went flat and they promptly sent maintenance over to assist. This will be our new family vacation spot as we go to Lake george every year. To the amazing staff we really enjoyed our stay, the way you guys went above and beyond to accommodate us through this difficult time. Special thanks to Nancy; you're a sweetheart. I was surprisingly impressed with how updated and clean the room was, and you can't beat the price for unobstructed views from the room. The bedding and bed were superb. Check in and out was with a remarkable team member named Nancy. Although check in isn't until 4, I spoke with Nancy and she said she would have our room ready at 1 and it was. At check in, I mentioned that my sister had sprained her ankle right before we left to come to Depe Dene and Nancy immediately got an ice bucket for me. So sweet. Bonus - you park directly outside the unit so unloading is a breeze. There were plenty of lounge chairs at the beach along with a restroom. I have been going to Depe Dene for the past ten years and we have reached our limit and patience. We continued to go because of the time we had with great friend we have met there but the conditions have not improved in that time. Out dated cabins, bugs, cold water in showers, lack of items listed on website (boats, parties, activities for kids), as well as people who just float around the grounds who are not paying rentals. Customer service is also terrible, do not answer phones and when you go to the front desk it as if you are giving them problems and do not treat the "customer" with much care. I would recommend somewhere else to go. read more

DO NOT SPEND YOUR MONEY HERE! Recently spent the week there and encountered the following all in one week: 1. My daughter mauled by sand mites on the playground 2. Bedbugs in the cabin along with an assortment of other insects 3. Found that cabin had not been cleaned or bedding changed 4. Stepped on glass on the beach 5. Oven not working 6. Overwhelming smell of urine in cabin 7. Skunks going through garbage 8. Strange man in a neighbors cabin while a young women was showering. Troopers had to respond but management did not. I could go on. I think the worst indignation was the staff. When I made them aware of these problems they were boorish and rude. They never addressed the issues and made me feel as if I was being a pain in the ass. At one point the smart ass young girl behind the desk told me I was annoying her. Too bad that ownership has no interest in actually running a business or tending to their guest. At $350 a night, I don't think it's too much to ask for a clean and safe place for your family. Do yourself a favor and find somewhere else. Not worth the money or aggravation. Can't give negative stars so the 1 I need to leave to post is way too generous. read more

They need to lose the "resort" in the name as is it anything but a resort. As defined by Webster's Dictionary, a resort is: designed to provide recreation, entertainment, and accommodation especially to vacationers : a community or establishment whose purpose or main industry is catering to vacationers. Well that does not happen at Depe Dene. They do not provide entertainment, they did have smores on the beach, a luau with live music, pizza on the beach for lunch but they stopped providing that and did not reduce the nightly stay price. Kayaks, canoes and paddle boards are in short supply and you cannot take them into the lake too far without being scolded by a teenager. The have been zero upgrades to the cabins in the past ten years. Rugs are gross make sure you pack your slippers!! The playground equipment especially the slide and the spin thing are not only outdated but dangerous. The other playground needs to be weeded and up kept but they don't. Any resort I have ever been out does not make me take my own garbage to the dumpsters. I won't even touch on the rudeness of the staff members at Depe Dene. If they went to college and earned a degree in service industry, they should get a refund. If not, they should take a class or two in this area. Do not spend your hard earned money on this so called "resort" when there are so many other places in Lake George that are much nicer. My husband used to stay here as a kid and was excited to bring me. We have been there twice together and I have definitely enjoyed myself and their grounds. They offer kayaks and paddle boats which our friends and ourselves put to good use during our stay last Labor Day weekend. We also loved the boat house where you can lounge above the lake and relax. We rented a boat nearby and were able to take it out from their dock. We are also happy that we can walk to the Lone bull which was a staple of my husband's Lake George trips as a kid. I booked our cabin with a nice partial view of the lake and we were right in the middle of the amenities. The staff is also very nice and helpful! Cons: Unfortunately the rooms can be a little nicer. I remember our room in particular had a lot of cob webs in the closet with some very gross funky stuff stuck all over them. That definitely creeped us out a little bit. The rest of the bedrooms in our cabin seemed to be a lot cleaner then ours was. I also wish that they offered more cabins that were pet friendly as I would bring my dogs to stay there in a heart beat if we did not have to stay across the street. Overall, all of our friends that we brought with us raved about our stay at Depe Dene and wanted to go back again this year for Labor Day. However this year we will be looking for a more dog friendly place. I am sure we will be back again! read more

Trying to get my kids to sleep but we're all enjoying the SCREAMING so much that we're just too excited to sleep. The young women scream, the young men scream, everybody screams. Who wouldn't love that? We're so happy we're checking out tomorrow - three days early - and looking for another place to try to sleep. We have a lot of catching up to do. read more

This "resort" was not luxurious by any means. More like glorified camping. The cabins were half-assed clean; with a lot of hidden dirt and grime along with a lot of exposure to disgusting dumpsters. The bathroom upon arrival smelled like a rest stop. The carpets need to be replaced. There is no AC. The poolside cottages have inconvenient pool access. First impression was that cabin was outdated and not well kept. Upon further inspection cobwebs discovered in many corners, ceiling fans covered in dust, filthy under the furniture, dishes in the cupboard had been rinsed at best, and two of the beds had not been changed. The wifi was mostly unusable. The worst problem was our cabin continued to run out of hot water as did the cabins next to us. When all this was brought to the front desks attention insincerely apologetic and full of excuses. I was given fresh sheets to make my own bed and told after 5 days of hot water issue that they may have to consider replacing the system. No offer of any refund. They had my money and couldn't care less when I checked out 3 days early. read more

This "resort" is a dump. BAD SECURITY! THIS YEAR WE HAD A RANDOM MAN BREAK INTO ONE OF OUR CABINS WHILE A GIRL WAS SHOWERING!!THERE ARE SO MANY CREEPS WALKING AROUND! It's half cleaned and hidden dirt and bugs EVERYWHERE! BED BUGS! THERE ARE BED BUGS!!! It's insane! My group has been staying here for a really long time, and we will not be returning. The staff is NASTY! Especially the girl who runs the kayaks and paddle boards. She is a rude little girl. The staff is rude. Don't come here. There were these weird bugs in the sand of the playground that mauled the kids. They had scabbing bites everywhere! The pool is gross. It's filled with warm pee water. It's dirty and gross. The dock in the lake is constantly broken. The ice machine barley works and the arcade games are ALWAYS BROKEN. Every year we have been coming, the arcade games are always broken. They claim to have "water sports" but they only had one kayak, one paddle board and one paddle boat. A scam. They do not care well for their other staff members. One staff member had a seizure/ heat stroke which seemed pretty serious considering he was taken away on ambulance. But the next day he was out working again in the blazing sun! He was saved by a man in my group because the other staff members didn't care that much. They told us he had other instances like this and still had him working outside by himself. THERE ARE NO ACTIVITIES. They used to have a luau, pizza lunch, s'mores, movie night, etc. well not anymore. Good luck trying to entertain yourselves with no activities and crappy wifi! We also got egged. Last year, the bathroom light broke and fell on a kids head! This "resort" is not worth your time and money. I wish i could give it zero stars. read more

We just got here yesterday. Place is very nice. Well maintained. Our cabin is a 2 bedroom. Perfect for my husband and two kids. Boats are included and they also include paddle boards which is great! Pool is heated, there is a jacuzzi. Wish there were a few more tables with umbrellas to escape the sun. Very large hill from pool to lake but expected in Lake George. A special was offered for guests this month if you stayed 3 nights by June 30th you got Third night free and when I called they said I could not have it because I booked already but would get back to me but they didn't. I feel a bit cheated and hoped the manager would honor the special. That would seal the deal to revisit since it is my first time but they never talked about it again which makes me reconsider a second visit. read more

I started coming to lake George yearly in 2002 and I've never found a resort I liked more than Depe Dene. If you're looking for "luxury", this is not the place (but you can try staying in the mansion instead of cabins). If you're looking for a comfortable, clean space good for families and groups, and a place for millions of memories to be made, this is your place. You have tons of amenities and several beautiful views of the lake. Most rooms to stay in are cabins. My family and I used to rent a whole row of cabins every single summer and it was an absolute blast. Although we don't go every year anymore, I can't seem to stay anywhere else because it just isn't the same. I'm biased because I have a billion memories made there, but they are the most special memories of my life. Also, you are right behind an amazing pancake house called the Lone Bull. 10/10 spot for breakfast before the drive home, or any day. read more

it was a perfect resort for our short vacay. It has a heated pool,lake, volleyball,pingpong and basketball that we enjoy. We didn't have to go out of the resort for 2 days .The picnic area is very relaxing and the view was just awesome!! Will deff go back here and would recommend to others. We had an amazing stay here! We stayed at the mansion for two nights. It was very clean, spacioius, and had incredible views. Moreover, as I'm a history buff, it had the most fascinating history (and it's haunted!). There were lots of activities on the resort itself. There was ping pong, tennis, hot tubs, pool, arcade games, a beach, kayaking, and more. There's also horse riding across the street. Lake George itself is a beautiful town with lots of gift stores, fine dining, Fort/William Henry Museum (with ghost tours), and more. It was a lovely two day break. read more

Gee...where do I start: - You'll be welcomed & overwhelmed with the warm and pungent smell of horse manure as the breeze from the horse stables across the street wafts down into the resort. - You no longer need a GPS to navigate back to Depe Dene. Just open your window and wait for the smell of horse manure. - The bedroom in the cabin we had had a slope. The door to that bedroom would close shut because of this. - The fan in our bedroom had paper and magazine placed in between the ceiling and the fan mount. This is just classy. - They advertise and abundance of kayaks. Every time we went to check one out, staff was nowhere to be found. When they were, only small number of kayaks were available. (we had one adult and 3 children who simply wanted one kayak to themselves). - The pool was dirty. My daughter described the filth in the pool resembling "peeled off callouses." - The ceiling shows nails sticking out. Classy. - The ceiling shows dried glue oozing from what ever repairs were done to the roof. - The ceiling shows termite damage and they obviously showed no effort to repair it. - The ceiling had a wonderful display of spackle or some other repair. - The bathroom tile was not tile at all, but something more akin to linoleum and showed damage either from screws or something scratching or nicking. - One of the doors had screw holes and one big giant hole from when an old latch was replaced. They did not even bother to patch the door. - An electrical outlet cover in the living room was cracked exposing the wiring underneath. - The fire extinguisher was installed on a tree outside of our cabin. So if a fire happens inside the cabin I would need to run outside and grab the fire extinguisher and then run back into the cabin to put the fire out. I'm sure a fire code is being violated here. - They describe their look as rustic. I find their definition of rustic to be waaay off. - Rustic = nails sticking out of the wall to hang your stuff on - Rustic = Plastic chairs with metal legs like the kind your find in elementary schools - Rustic = All of the nonsense I described above. read more

My daughter and I went up here for a some mother-daughter time. Most of the other places we tried first where all booked up... not one single room available. But at this place.. there were LOTS of rooms available. That should have been the first clue. We drove up and checked in. After a long drive... wanted to go hang out in the hot tub. Before that could happen... they had to find the caretaker to turn it on...and clean out. Lots of leaves and pollen. We got to the room... and while the room was clean... you can tell that it hasn't been updated in a LONG time. The couch was ripped... the carpet was worn and fibers loose....and just had an overall aura of shabbiness. The kitchen (which we were told was "stocked")... had no pots and pans... one serving spoon...no dish soap... or paper towels. It did have a coffeepot, (no filters), toaster and microwave, stove and fridge. The table outside our room..the chairs had missing slots in the bottom...and the deck hadn't been cleaned in a while. One thing they offer is the use of their kayaks and paddle boats. We planned to do this on Sunday morning... and called the desk to find out availability. We were told that the person in charge would open at 9:00 am. So we headed down to the beach at 9:00 am. No one there. We waited for 1/2 hour. I finally called the desk...and he then informed me that this person would not show up until 11:00 am. Now... the person who runs the desk has been there for years and works every weekend. This was news? Couldn't they have called me to let me know? Finally the guy arrives...and we gets kayaks. We head out. Low and behold...the kayaks LEAK! We had gone far enough...that it was really tough to get back. We had to stopped and turn the kayaks over...and empty out water. I couldn't make it back...as the kayak kept tipping over. We couldn't control them with so much water. A good samaritan came to our rescue and brought me back. He told us...that this is not the first time this has happened...nor the first person he has rescued. I have been kayaking for over 20 years... and have never have had an experience like this. I wrenched my back out trying to handle a kayak that was filled with water... both of us were so chilled from the water.... it took hours afterwards to get our core temp back up...and I ended up getting sick. The manager totally seemed unconcerned. He said that the kayaks are new. Really? These were scratched... beat up....with duck tape and the glue that was on the bottom from obvious continual repair. Needless to say.... we were not to thrilled about our experience and will not go back there. I wish I had read the reviews first before we made a reservation. read more

I have been coming to LG for 30 years stayed at many different place and understand the gists of the rustic upstate living experience stayed BUT this place (DEPE DENE) by far tops the list of @&$$?HOLES.Dirty flies outdated even for LG. The towel exchange,no maid service the deposits for everything (pots pans even the Key to get in the room is a joke)then you will be charged if they have to clean anything up really Isn't that what your paying for? After check in, I walked in the cabin and it smelled like cat piss! The rugs are dirty crusty & stained. The blinds are all broken missing pieces or just plain don't cover the whole window (too short). We had no privacy & people walk by all day long. Then I go in the bedrooms check the mattresses and the blankets underneath are stained. The mattresses are old and uncomfortable & have noisy springs. I had fly paper hanging from the ceiling in the living room. House flies everywhere. Then you go to take a shower & the towels smelled nasty! They aren't white so they probably don't bleach them. The bathroom sink doesn't drain properly when brushing your teeth. The door knob to the hotel is loose and almost fell off when I pulled it shut to lock it. I could deal with the outdated cabins but the smell, no privacy, uncomfortable mattresses & the condition of the carpets and the dirtiness is unacceptable! Definitely will not be back!
