A beer garden in downtown ATL?! OOH YAH! The closest thing you can get to being in Germany without leaving the city. They have the best selection of German beers. I'm pretty sure one of them is even made by monks in Bavaria. To top it all off, you can drink your beer from DAS BOOT!! That's right! You can drink out of a glass boot pint glass and keep it and bring it back next time for discounted beer. Pretty awesome Deutchlanta experience if you ask me! I know it doesn't go along with the German theme but I do wish they opened for English Premier League games on the weekend. Why not add to the melting pot of Great Deutchlanta? I think I've been spoiled by other beer gardens that I thought this was okay. I've also been spoiled by air conditioning that I was surprised there was none whatsoever in this place... I just felt like I was going to pass out towards the end of dinner/drinks. I was also very disappointed by the pretzel that looked amazing... it may be a personal opinion, but I thought the sausages did not taste good and I didn't like its grainy texture. Nice place to go for beer and atmosphere in the downtown Atlanta area. I can't say anything about the food since we didn't get any, however the beer was delicious and they have so many different kinds! We were short on time so we only tried the Lemon Radling which tasted so smooth, I'd definitely recommend if you don't like strong beers. What I especially loved about this place was the atmosphere, especially the difference between the inside and outside. The inside of this biergarten is more for just dining, more of a calm setting with beautiful lights and decorations and soft German music playing in the background. There's also a bar inside that you can sit at too. The outside seems completely different, with long tables meant for sharing, lots of people drinking beer and having food as well, and loud electronic music. Either way this place has something for everyone and I wish I could have stayed to try more beers and the food! read more

I had been anticipating the chance to visit this restaurant since seeing it on Atlanta Eats. We went on a Sunday afternoon, yesterday in fact, and snacked on some appetizers. We didn't want to over do it before walking around the aquarium. I was hoping not to be let down after so much anticipation and was skeptical to say the least. We experienced quality service and genuine hospitality even though we took up the large table for nearly two hours having only appetizers and beer. The food was well prepared and the servings are huge. The draft beer is clean and comes out to you cold in legit sized mugs. You definitely get the half liter you're paying for. The pretzel was big, soft, buttery and salty. The meatballs were savory and rich, super filling with a gravy over mashed potatoes. The bratwurst is obviously made in house and was superb. The sauerkraut also seemed to be crafted in house with beer and the perfect amount of caraway and spice to balance the tangy vinegar. I was disappointed at first with the limited beer selection of beers brewed by well known German breweries, most of which I've already tried but what they do have, covers the bases and everything food-wise that was carried past us looked and smelled so delicious. I cannot wait to come back to Der Biergarten and enjoy and actual dinner and more of the Dunkel. read more

Not the best German food I've ever had, but probably the 3rd best. Great patio and German beer selection, with service that's better than average. I usually bring visitors from out of town here that are staying in the vicinity for local attraction or trade shows at the GWCC. The atmosphere is a little cheesy, but it doesn't detract from the experience. I would definitely recommend this over the other restaurants in the same strip of businesses. Also great for large groups with the long biergarten-style tables and benches. Keep in mind you do have to walk up 2 sets of stairs to access it (if they have an elevator I haven't seen it), so if you are planning on coming with someone who has physical disabilities I'd call ahead and check first. The atmosphere of the restaurant is light and the area was decked in festive lighting. A great variety of beers, and the food was phenomenal. I ordered a Sauerbraten, and the meal was a beauty, both to look at and consume. The aromas of the gravy and meat in its spices was fantastic. And the serving size was enough for another meal the next day. But what is a meal without service? My server Patrick was great; even while hustling to keep multiple tables happy, he was very friendly and answered all of my questions regarding beer recommendations. A great German place in Atlanta. Very close to the convention center in the heart of the downtown area. Pretty authentic German food and good beer selection, they even have favorite my hard to find beer Konig Ludwig. They have this outdoor roof top German beer garden up front. Everything we tried was great. The wiener schnitzel was great and this is one of the few places I've ever found that can do a rouladen right. Usually most places have it end up overcooked and too dry. The one from here was so juicy and still tasty. Overall great, way more authentic than I was expecting. read more

I wanted to like this restaurant. We were pleased with our server even though they were understaffed. Bar was slow to fill orders which was complicated by their policy that beer must be finisher before another could be ordered. One of our party ordered tea and got several refills and was charged $2.50 each, even when the menu stated refills were free. I suspect waitress reimbursed us from her tips. Had the best time here after the Women's March on Saturday. Had quite a few of their liter beers and they were cold and delicious and everything a tired protester could wish for. Very chill place to either sip some beers and enjoy some sausages and krauts. I only went and got the lemon beer they were serving at the time and it was so good. Service was really fast too and you can either enjoy a nice indoor restaurant experience or go outside to have more of a outdoor bar like feel. Located on the second floor so you get a decent view whether you sit inside or outside. First time visiting Atlanta and decided to stop in after a long day, and it was the best decision ever! Serious, the food is out of this world and the place looks gorgeous. Even though there was three of us we decided to share rather than get our own plates, and there was totally enough food. We got the meat and cheese appetizer and the hard sausage tasted special, like it had honey or something, and the gouda was so delicious. As an entree we got the Rinderrouladen and the meat was so tender, the sauce was great, and everything came out so fast! We ordered and 2 minutes later it was here. For real. And our waiter Jimmy was fabulous, he was friendly, attentive, authentic, and fun. We had a great time, and we even decided to get the chocolate cake. Der Biergarten is a good place in ATL to grab some German food and beer. If the weather's nice, you can sit out on the patio. Most of the seating is community-style with long tables and benches, much like an actual German biergarten. There are tables inside, but they're few and far between. And it will get full quickly if it's cold outside. The German beer selection is fantastic - a lot of choices that you can't necessarily get easily elsewhere in the city. The menu is typical German fare - brats, other types of sausage, sauerkraut, Käsespätzle, etc. The menu isn't very extensive, but it's delicious. I usually get the two sausages with potato salad and sauerkraut and that is more than enough! I took one star off the rating because I never seem to get the correct beer the first time. Each time I've gone, either my or my husband's beer order comes incorrectly. They always let us keep the extra beer once the correct one comes, but it seems a bit wasteful if we're not able to finish it. Not a huge deal. Just something to note. You do get validation for the parking deck across the street, so that's a plus! read more

Other fellow Yelpers have validated the greatness of this establishment and I can't lie, it was the reviews that had me and my husband drawn to dining here when we had a day trip to Atlanta. 1) Do no fret about parking. Park in the parking garage across the road. Take a ticket, bring it with you and the restaurant will validate. After leaving, it's easy to "pay." Insert parking ticket into one of the machines on the first or second floor and then insert the validation ticket. You get your parking ticket back to inset at the gate for exiting. Alrightly! Onward to the restaurant! I love that it is upstairs off the busy streets of Atlanta. You kinda get this instant transformation into a different world. You first notice the outdoor seating with long, picnic style seating. Upon entering, we notice the white, thick tablecloths and scattered reserved seating with couples and families dressed up in "Sunday best." Was not expecting a cross between a beer garden and fine dining. Our hostess stated it would be about 45 minute wait but bar is first come, first serve. Onward to the bar! Several beers on tap; barista was absolutely wonderful. My husband is of German ancestry and his grandmother cooked up German food regularly. He cleaned his plate! Only thing he said was different was the sauerkraut here was served warm (it is usually served cool) and the pasta salad, listed on the menu as Kasespatzle, is usually served cool and without cheese. So, it has a little Americanized kick to it but it is oh-so delicious! Potato salad was a tad too vinegary for my particular taste buds. Keep in mind German food is heavy on the stomach to absorb all that beer. Expect to bring home some leftovers! You get a tray of three mustards to try with bratwurst and/or knackwurst. Try all three to pick your favorite! You will put a dent in your wallet, especially with beers, but c'mon, how often do you get German food? It's worth it. read more

It wasn't bad or anything but nothing particularly good either. Maybe wasn't a good move at a German restaurant.
