On our way out of Atlanta, we stopped at Derek's for breakfast. It's a small diner located in a light industrial area east of I-75 and is easy to reach from exit 276 (Canton Rd Connector). We arrived on a Monday morning and were seated immediately. We placed our orders, but since there was a problem in the kitchen, it took longer than the manager/owner expected; he apologized profusely for the delay. I had the eggs and corned beef hash and my wife had the eggs with country fried steak. Our meals were good and reasonably priced. Despite the kitchen issues, our service was attentive. A cozy place to eat good ole comfort food!!! While running errands out this way, I decided to stop in at Derek's for breakfast. It was all smile when I walked in. I was told to take a seat anywhere I wanted, so I grabbed a booth. The place is very warm and inviting, I guess the right word is " down home ". I was given a menu and silver ware and with so many different breakfast items, I was browsing and comparing for a min or so. I finally settled on an omelet, the Ranchero omelette minus the bell peppers. It was just enough heat to make me happy, with the fresh ( not pickled ) jalapeños and all of the other toppings, I was a happy camper, it came with hash browns and my choice of toast or biscuit I ended up ordering the raisin toast. The hash browns were yummy as well, topped with cheesy goodness and my waitress kept my coffee coming. Being over this way so often, I don't know why it took so long to try this place. Derek's has a really good breakfast! However, the lunch buffet is terrible. The baked chicken has some weird spice on it. The pork looked like it had been there quite a while. The cabbage had absolutely no taste. The mashed potatoes were definitely instant and had been there long enough to be dried out and crusty. The black eyed peas were alright. Stick with the breakfast. First visit here with my dad and he loved the food. I ordered an omelette with corn hashed beef on the side and when they brought it out the corned hashed beef was in the omelette so they remade it however while I waited for them to remake it i noticed a roach on the table, and shortly after a roach on the wall just chilling when the server came back I had no appetite! I showed her the one on the wall and even recorded the roaches .she apologized which was nice but I asked to speak to the manager and she advised me he was not there. I asked her to have him reach out to me trying to be discreet about the situation because the food was good but they could have offered to comp some of it being as though I didn't even eat my meal one it came out and we left the food my father was going to take to go. Well anyway, it took me a week to get in contact with the manager everyone I called it was a different excuse and once I got him on the phone he told me he'd look into the situation and it's a week later and nothing. A lot more parking than their last location, but not a lot of seating inside. And the bench seats are a little snug - not great if you have a large party or like to spread out. This puts a simple breakfast at $ 15 that includes tip. Then it's not so inexpensive. Recommendation: charge a buck more and include coffee. Well, Derek's moved down the street to a larger place and it seems they left their quality at the old location. I made a very simple order, a coke and an omelette. The glass the coke cane in was not just dirty but it had trash stuck to the inside. My omelette came with mushrooms and I asked for it WITHOUT the mushrooms. Even though the waitress wrote it down that way, the kitchen staff took no mushrooms as extra mushrooms and loaded me down. I was told, "well aside from making it myself, what would you like me to do." Well nothing I guess. I also believe they brought their old booths and tables with them, but they forgot to fix the cushions. There's nothing like eating your breakfast while sitting on a bench where the stuffing is gone with a crossbar shoved up your @$$. Not very busy, slow wait service, forgot my toast..when it was brought it was practically burned, hard and cool....it wouldn't melt the butter. My wife's eggs and sausage were cool, as were my hash browns. No silverware brought out. Just an overall incredibly mediocre meal lacking real customer service. When you open a restaurant, it's your duty to serve good, delicious quality food. I ordered the chicken biscuit, a pretty simply dish, and it looked like I ordered it from a middle school cafeteria. Chick fil a produces fresh chicken everyday. You can get fast food is with better quality than this place. In addition the server was also completely rude and unwelcoming. On top of that, I explain to her our service wasn't very good. She goes on to tell me she was rude because we sat outside. Wow, a great way to treat your customers. No signs, nothing saying we can't sit there. Plus there were already people outside! PARKING: There are literally 20 parking spots here, so be cautious. It's located on the side of the road and could be missed if you don't look out for it. But, finding it via GPS is totally fine. Also, I came around noon for a late breakfast on a Monday and parking was fine. SERVICE: If you want breakfast, sit at a table or booth and someone will serve you. So the first few times we tried to have breakfast here, it was closed...first they were on vacation, then we kept forgetting that it's not open on Sundays. I was frustrated (mostly b/c I love breakfast and was hangry), but also determined to pay attention to their hours so I could try their breakfast eventually. After our failed attempts, we finally made it for breakfast and boy were we thankful! The place is small, but cozy. Don't be deterred by the small parking lot, there's a lot across the street that we've used when they're busy. We've been to breakfast here many times and love it. It's simple, but delicious. My go-to breakfast is the french toast and eggs. My husband tries something new almost every time. He made the mistake of ordering two biscuit sandwiches thinking they were small...but they're HUGE! I've driven by this coffee shop many times going into Marietta and never stopped in until today. I came in for breakfast and was really pleased. First of all, I was greeted immediately upon coming in by a gentlemen who appeared to be the owner. The staff was very friendly. It's a small operation, with the owner, a waitress, and a cook. It was pleasant to sit in the booths and look out through the large windows at Canton Street. The restaurant is clean and well maintained. I ordered Derek's Breakfast, which was excellent. It was basic breakfast fare, but everything was cooked well. This breakfast comes with two eggs, hash browns or grits, bacon or sausage, and biscuit or toast. I got scrambled eggs, bacon, potatoes, and a biscuit. The bacon was crispy, potatoes were fresh and not too greasy, eggs were cooked perfectly, and the biscuit was fresh and fluffy. All of this cost just $5.49. The coffee was also pretty good. Really enjoyed coming here and plan to visit again. read more

In need of a great breakfast before I set out to finish Christmas shopping I decided to stop here. The have great reviews so I thought I'd be in for a treat. As soon as I arrived I stood with a group of people waiting to be greeted and seated. After 10 minutes or so we were finally greeted and then sat about 20 minutes later. They only had 1 person that was not only the host but also the "food carrier". We were sat and about 10 more minutes passed by and we were waited on only to find out after she took our order that the kitchen was "backed up". She told us we would be waiting for our food.
