The front office staff is choosing to not allow me to use the benefits that are a part of my insurance. It clearly states they can accept a self-referral so that I do not need to waist my time going to another doctor, just to go see them. This benefit is included in my insurance, that hey accept, and they are refusing to allow me to use it. They are super petty, and clearly don't adhere to their providers agreements. Daryl Wong MD has been my dermatologist for years. He performed MOHS surgery on me and has done multiple biopsies. He is great. I would probably give him 4 or 5 stars. The office staff and their lack of responsiveness and the complete lack of customer service are the reasons for this low rating. I would give them a 1 rating, at best. I have left multiple messages (over several weeks) in follow-up to their reminder to make my annual skin cancer screening appointment. I have not received a return phone call. I finally reached a live person today and attempted to make an appointment. I was driving and was unable to provide my current medical insurance over the phone. They refused to make an appointment without that information. I could understand that for a new patient, but I have been a patient in this practice for years. I told them that I would call back with the information. They remained unwilling to make an appointment. Well, guess what? I will go to a new practice where they actually answer and return calls and treat patients as a priority. read more

When it comes to some of these problems, many will change with the necessary surgery, but it is the smart decision to make to let Doctor Daryl Wong and the Specialists at Dermatology Specialists he works with take care of any issues and answers you can trust. I and my Husband both have been sun worshipers in our youth. I wish I had worn a hat back then. I have had a long relationship with Dr. Wong and his associates and I will not let any other group work with my issues. His Staff are JUST the very best and have been with Dr. Wong for years. His Office Staff takes care of all the resolve you need with appointments. They all are JUST the most qualified and reliable group to work with. They just take the fear out of the need for resolve problems. I feel like if Dr. Wong had not taken care of me, I would not be here today. My pleasure to recommend Dr. Wong and Staff. read more

This review is about Dr. Samady. First off, I'm a consultant. I work remotely. 99% of my work is done by phone. Secondly, I previously worked for numerous doctors offices, in numerous disciplines and practices, as their IT person for 5 years. I know how MD's work and think. I worked very closely with them. 90% of them are self-centered assholes who think their special and the world revolves around them. All the drug reps and employees kiss their ass, day in, day out. They come to expect the same from their patients. My appointment was at 1230. Dr Samady didn't meander in to the room until 1300. While waiting for Mr. Prompt, I happened to have received a phone call from my customer, the US ARMY. I figured the MD was late and there was no harm in handling my work situation while Dr Samady was busy doing whatever the fuck he was doing. He barges in the room, sees me on my cell phone and presumably thinks I'm talking to my girlfriend or whatever. He starts talking to me, while I'm on the phone with my customer, as if I was inconveniencing HIM. He's the one running late without any explanation. Then I tell him that I need to finish my conversation. He had the balls to ask me how long it would take because he could go see his next patient!! FUCKING ASSHOLE. The medical industry is the only one I can think of where these jerk offs can get away with doing whatever they want and treating their customers (patients) like shit. In my profession, I don't have the convenience of running late and blaming it on someone or something else. I'm the customer, and it seems as if there's a plethora of other Dermatologists I could see in San Diego County. This office, not this particular doctor, was recommended to me by a family member. I wanted the soonest appointment available so I went with Mr Prompt instead of the MD that was recommended to me. My mistake. This is mostly a rant and vent because I cannot stand for tardiness with narcissistic MD's. Nor should anyone have to. When I got off the phone with my customer, I didn't explain the situation. I only told him, "I wasn't sure if you were going to show up." He looked at me with a half scowl and in an unapologetic tone, said, "I'm sorry for running late, my prior appointments, blah blah blah". Whatever dude, thanks for your small margin of time and providing me with outstanding service (read: going through the motions). It was unbearable to look at, let alone in public. H2T I was covered ~85-90% my body & it took ~70-75 %my hair. FASTforward...I finally became at-ease because of Dr. Ross' Tactfulness; Thoroughness & Careful approach/with the Highest Wisdom I've ever seen; ALWAYS Listening; ASKING THE APPROPRIATE QUESTIONS; never ever [nor showing] he's IN A RUSH; nor does he "push" nor suggest any treatment not a match. @ my last Appt, (IF he weren't; IF the communication wasNOT there...I "WOULD'VE DIED"!! YES, that's what the DOC SAID...the Injection with an INFECTION present WOULD LITERALLY KILL ME!!!...now, howz that for a Lifesaver? After reading the scathing reviews of this practice, I almost changed PCP to get referred to another practice. But I decided to give them a try and decide for myself. And am I glad I did! Have had nothing but positive experience with staff and doctors. Had Mohs surgery done by Dr. Wong and results were even better than I had hoped. been going here several years for routine visits. recently developed a topical skin cancer and have been treating it. but, the salve doesn't agree with me. so, trying to get through to a nurse to change it. it is impossible to get through on their phone system, intolerable wait times, calls not returned or returned days later, etc. also, their email system sucks, they are ignored. so, am looking for another doctor, Dr. Kurlan is a good dr., but their admin system needs a complete overhaul. the staff are friendly, but they obviously need more hires. i have a call in right now to their admin staff, we'll see how long it takes to return. read more

I will never step foot in to this office again. The staff is incredibly unprofessional. My husband and I were seen for basically the same thing, yet I was billed a higher price for my visit. I used to work front office in a medical facility and dealt with billing all the time. This place scams people and charges higher prices for higher returns. So when I asked to speak to an office manager, I got a call a few days later from a woman who stated that, "that day was her last day and there was nothing she could do and for me to call back and reach out to a different person"... UM WHAT!? why wouldn't this separate person who could actually solve my issue just call me to begin with??! Then the doctor had done a biopsy to find out what kind of rash my husband had been getting. The MA called a couple weeks after just saying "hey its benign" we told her we already knew that seeing how we didn't think it was cancerous and just wanted to know what it was. She was unapologetic, said the doctor was out of office and would get back to us when the doctor returned from vacation. 1 month goes by... NOTHING. call back and oh of course they want us to come in to the office to go over the results.... so they can overcharge the insurance again. METHINKS NOT! Don't go to this place. Pay more for a place that will treat you more than a price tag. read more

Was referred by my regular doctor for an issue with my toe. First off I should have never been referred there for the issue I was having, secondly I was then asked if I want a skin cancer check, which I said ok. There was a spot on my back that the doctor wanted to biopsy I said I was getting married in a few days and don't want a scar since it was in an area that would show. They kind of hustled me into the room and did the biopsy. Never got any information on if this was covered by my insurance or anything. Long story short, I had a scar, never received the results, received a bill for $204. $95 for the review of the biopsy (which I never got). Called the office 2 times to speak to the office manager, i was put on hold but could hear the office staff speaking and telling eachother to transfer me to her voicemail. Ok. Dr. Venkat is the best doctor there! Some of the other doctors are indifferent and rude. Medical staff assistants are nice but may need a bit more training. Billing Department and appointment setting are at times confusing and difficult but after a few months of back forth phone calls got explanations. Bad bedside manor the few times I have been. Doctors are always rushed as they book patients every 10 minutes apart to cash in. As a result, they are always behind, rush you through, don't do a thorough job. Forget about being a few minutes late...they will make you reschedule! Took off work early for an appointment I booked 3 weeks in advance. Hit some school traffic and was 8 minutes late. Told I had to reschedule. Very upsetting!!! read more

I saw Dr. Samady twice for my cortisone injections. My referral was for another doctor but I chose the 1st avail. appt which was with Dr. Samady. I am happy to report that the results are good. My keloid has gone from a ugly raised earthworm to now a ugly flat scar. The pain & irritation I was experiencing has diminished, not completely but noticeable relief. Was nervous after reading their bad reviews but my experience was overall positive. I saw Dr Kurlan, who was friendly - downside is I felt she was rushing me. But she did take the time to give me a once over and remove a problem area. When I thought it was infected, I was able to be seen the same day and the Dr (diff one) was friendly and addressed my concerns. Staff up front is always friendly. read more

The actual appointments were in Feb, but I'm still getting bills from these people. The latest one was last week. It came the same day as a letter threatening to take me to collections if I didn't pay up. (?!?!?) Doesn't the bill normally come before the collection letter? All this over $12. The month before, I got a bill for $5 stating I was 30 days late. I paid that, but wondered where the initial bill notifying me that I owed them the measly $5 was. I wish I had read these reviews before I went to DSI. These people are billing me for piddly sums six months after I saw them. If there had just been one bill, I may never have said anything. The treatment I got is pretty much in line with what other reviewers have stated. But this group has got to be the money-grubbiest bunch I've ever had the misfortune to deal with. Getting a collection letter with an initial bill (for $12!) six months after the appointment was the straw that broke the camel's back. I sent a letter back to these people and actually fired them. Dr Wong did my mohs surgery on my basal cell in the middle of my face. He assured me that no worries, you don't need a plastic surgeon to do this, and you will have a tiny scar. I ended up with a quarter size hole in my forehead and he just pulled the skin together and stitched it up. The scar healed into an ugly lumpy scar and I had to eventually get it repaired by a plastic surgeon. This was a horrible experience. read more

Got check returned, with letter stating my account was current. Week later letter stating account was going to collections, went to office, paid cash. I just had my first experience with Dermatology Specialists and I have to say it was extremely positive from the time I walked in the door and throughout the whole process. I had a rather sizeable mole on my cheek and initially made an appointment with Dr. Ross. Great guy, I was greeted in a very friendly and professional way and only waited 5 minutes. He did a shave biopsy to see what kind of treatment this mole would need. I was told it would take up to 2 weeks for the results. At that time I received a call from Pathology and they let me know that I would need to have it removed and scheduled me an appointment 4 days later and informed me that Dr. Wong would be doing the Mohs surgery because that was his specialty. I came in on Friday of that week (a few days ago) thinking that I was having it removed. I misunderstood. Dr. Wong explained that he could remove it that day but would rather play it safe and give me antibiotics to take 24 days prior to the surgery. He gave me a great consultation and explained every step of the treatment recommended. He told his assistant to schedule it Monday and to let him know if he didn't have anything available on Monday. Well his schedule was full so his assistant walked back to Dr. Wong to tell him and came back and said that he would do it on 12:15 Monday on his lunch hour. I was floored! I've never had a Dr. offer to do anything like that. I came back in today to have the procedure. On Friday we had discussed leaving the incision open in the event they had to go back in and remove more that it would be less invasive. Well, over the weekend I changed my mind to have it stitched up and let him know. I expressed to him that I felt bad knowing that he took the time on his lunch hour and I changed things. He let me know that it was more important to him to accommodate my needs. The procedure took 30 minutes. He was very meticulous, it went great. George his assistant gave great care in bandaging me up and telling me what to expect. Holie was great as well! This whole office staff is very accommodating. read more

Terrible customer service in the office department. I've been a patient for quite some time. My insurance changed and I also ran out of refills on my prescription. I called to see about the process of getting more refills and the office staff said I had to come in to reestablish a relationship with a different doctor. (Why?) I told them that I would appreciate a refill for 1 more month because I was completely out of the medication that I was prescribed. They said they were unable to accommodate my request and I needed to schedule an appointment. I have been on the phone back and fourth with my insurance company, my PCP, and this dermatologist group trying to get the billing covered prior to my appointment today. The ladies at this office (specifically, Channel?) have not been accommodating in the slightest. I don't understand why I am doing their job for them and they continue to give me attitude over the phone.... I'm so sorry to inconvenience you ladies from whatever it is that you guys do all day. If I could give less stars, I would. Do yourself a favor and have your dermatology services performed somewhere else. The reception team at this facility is atrocious. You get a 15 minute appointment for over $100 and it's a requirement, even if you have been given medication that's working for you. read more

I've been a patient for years here and have gone through many Xtracta laser techs and they only come Mondays and Wednesdays so you have to adhere to their schedules and availability which impedes the progress and effectiveness of the expensive treatment. I really like and admire my P.A. Malia Sering but she is on maternity leave so I could not get a new doctor I liked and they make me come in every 4 months to tell me I have psoriasis which is not curable, contagious but is genetic. Seems like a practice policy which just bills my Medicare and is unnecessary since I have been a patient for over 8 years here and nothing changes much. I just need to see them annually and no blood test were required for a new medication they put me on but they demanded and ordered one anyone. Another bill and more wasted time. If another dermatologist in North County had this laser machine I would change practices immediately. Despite my expressed concerns to Dermatology Specialists it never gets resolved and has been this way for my entire 8 year patient files! But hey they have over priced Botox which seems to have someone to do 5 days a week. No thanks you're already taking my money and time but I might be getting some wrinkles over this! read more

I went to doctor theile for juviderm plus injections for my lips. I was told they would last a year for $575 which I was getting married July and I got them done in January thinking they would last. I was wrong. A month later my lips went back to normal and I went back and dr theile said my metabolism was fast which was highly false. I also noticed white spots after the injections have faded and got another quote from a different office and sure enough I was told he injected wrong but dr theile still didn't fess up to it. Now I'm out $575 but luckily I found another office and did the same injections and they have lasted ever since so now I know it's not my body and it was him. read more

I see Dr Samady once a year to check my moles and he also checks my facial skin as I use their prescription skincare (which is amazing by the way). I have been coming to this office to get my RX fading gel for my dark spots (which I no longer have but need to keep using to prevent them coming back) and my Retinol. The skincare is not cheap but better than any over the counter products I have ever used. They compound it right there and I go in every 30 days to get a refill. They are always quick and I'm in and out in 10mins. read more

I went to the Murrieta office and I will not be going back. They are super fast with each patient, do not spend time with you. I took my 3 year old daughter in for some warts to be treated. We agreed on a tx that would take several visits. First visit was fine, second visit they changed what we had originally agreed upon and the tx was more aggressive. I have no words to the pain my daughter was in and the possible scarring she has from the tx. I called and they have me come in, I had to pay more money to guy creams and prescriptions in hopes she would not scar. I very very disappointed in EVERYTHING about the tx and their response. I came to this practice in good faith through a referral from my pcp, and I leave feeling abused and taken advantage of. My issue was an abundance of skin tags and brown spots that needed to be frozen off. Dr. Gilboa quoted me $l00 to complete the job, and I agreed. This is a very uncomfortable procedure and Dr. Gilboa asked if I would prefer to continue at another time. I agreed to return to complete the job, assuming all it would cost me was the $35 co-pay. Wrong! When I called back to schedule they said they couldn't do the job because there was no referral. When pressed, they agreed to the new app't but said they would charge me an additional $l00. When I expressed that I had already paid the full amount I was quoted for the entire job, and that it was unfair to now double the price, they came back and said I would not be charged for the additional work, but instead of paying the $35 co-pay, I would have to pay the $85 fee for an office visit. All this took place of a period of several days. Apparently the doctors and staff of this office see no problem with saying one thing and doing another. I do. I went to see Dr. Venkat, a so called dermatologist who I had to wait an hour to see, only to be seen by him for a total of ten minutes if that. He barely inspected my skin and asked me what I think caused my skin reaction?? I came to see him to get this exact answer! He got defensive with me when I asked him questions he did not know the answers to, admittedly by the way, and didn't have any options for my problem but antibiotics..I know what my condition is called since I've had it for many years but he insisted on correcting me every time I mentioned the name of my condition. I have never been met with such lack of compassion from any MD. No information was given, no questions were asked, it was as if he was bothered that I was there and that I needed help. I have not had regular use of my right hand for two months now and was looking forward to this appointment as though it were Christmas. Finally an end to this pain..but what I experienced was nothing short of sickening. For all of us who have serious skin conditions and want to feel relief, for all of us who look to the "experts" to helps us... God bless us all. read more

I was very disappointed with the Mohs surgery I received at the Oceanside office. I went in with a 1/4 inch sore on my left cheek and they ended up digging about a nickel size chunk out of my face. They then pulled the skin over the hole and sewed it back up. It's been about a year since the surgery and I still have a black eye from it and very visible scaring. When I went in for the surgery they gave me a waiver to sign at the last minute in case they screw up my face. I thought that was very unprofessional and shows where there heart is when it comes to caring for the patient. I have since used alternative means for the skin cancer on the other side of my face, ears, etc. with excellent results. I have no scaring and my skin is back to normal. I use Amazon Black Salve that comes from a place that was shut down by the FDA. Look it up, I don't sell it but I'm preaching about it because it worked so well for me. I will NEVER go back to a dermatologist again. My experience is that they are really in it for the money and not much else. I won't mention any name of the "Doctor" who treated me, because I believe that most doctors are controlled by the fear of being sued and the FDA. read more

I was referred to Dr. Jens Thiele (Temecula) by my PCP. I waited a decent amount of time while noting the front office staff laughing and making jokes at patients on the phone. It was very unprofessional - they were openly discussing patient issues/care in front of by standers in the waiting area. Going in, I had a few sections on my skin that were of concern. When Dr. Thiele looked them over, he told me there was "nothing to be concerned about". I was happy about that but confused when he told me he was going to prescribe me medication to help and then informed me I should have a skin lesion (that was of no concern to him before) removed. When I told him I was not interested in getting medication for something that (he said) was fine and of no concern, he simply shrugged and moved on. I did not appreciate the lengthy medical terminology he used as I was unfamiliar with his vocabulary. When asked to explain in detail, he seemed frustrated as I'm sure he was running late to his next appointment. I was extremely disappointed with my visit and did not receive the care I deserved. My visit was unproductive and I do not feel like the doctor genuinely cared about my overall well-being. Very disappointing. read more
