What a wonderful spot to retreat to. Had a day off and knew I needed to recharge. Didn't have time to head to the Korean spas that I usually frequent in KoreaTown, so this was the next best bet! This spa is everything that you would regularly expect from a Korean spa, and had all the amenities that are typical, without anything extra. A hot spa, a cool water area, saunas (wet and dry) and places to shower and rinse. Locker room was basic but I don't need any extra frills so we were all good there. I was grateful for the food service they had upstairs - a bit pricey but no problem trying especially if it's your first time. Lots of rooms with various temperatures to help you relax, detox, get energized, and feel refreshed upon leaving. You can easily spend a whole day here - it's that relaxing. I went there on Friday around 5pm, it is good that there is a free private parking lot. After I paid $33 entrance fee, the staff gave me towels only, (I have been to different Korean spa, clothes should be provided), he asked me what else I need, I said clothes, then he gave me the clothes. If I don't ask, they may not give me the clothes then I am not allowed to use the salt room and other rooms upstairs, which I paid already. Please don't forget to get your clothes! The spa looks clean, I took a shower, use the steam room, sauna and jaccuzzi. Then I changed to the clothes and went upstairs for salt room... First - NO PHOTOS! So mine were taken veeeerrrry discreetly when NO ONE was around. I have NEVER tried to get spa photos, but I walked in with so many unanswered, BASIC, questions after reviewing Yelp and their website that I wanted to post a clearer picture of what this beautiful, quiet, calming facility is like. So, all that being said.... Came on a day when I knew the cafe was going to be open. It's located on the 2nd floor, is CLOSED every 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month, accepts cards and cash and is considered a separate business, so bring your payment with you when you go. On this, in need of an exfoliation, Thursday I wanted to see how busy Descanso Garden Spa(DGS) can get. So I headed to Tujunga, at the base of the lovely San Gabriel foothills for a little serenity, some water therapy, a good scrub and some detoxifying seaweed soup. Ya know, research. You're welcome! SO, entrance fee is waived for services over $100. That's on the website, but no mention of what the actual entrance fee IS. I just wanted a body scrub which is currently $50. Here's the info I didn't know until I walked in: If one wants to use the locker room and wet room features(showers, dry sauna, steam sauna, hot whirlpool spa and cold plunge pool) the fee is $28. If one would like to use BOTH the locker room/wet room features PLUS the upstairs "theme rooms"(yellow soil/infrared rays & charcoal room, salt room, cedar oxygen room or germanium rooms) as well as tranquility(sleeping) rooms, relaxation lounge and ice cold room, then the fee is $33. So I opted for my body scrub($50) and ALL the amenities ($33). I was given a ladies uniform, towels, locker room key, paid for my service and amenities and that was it. I know the guy wasn't going to guide me into and around the ladies facility, but the young gal with her back to the doors, deeply involved in her computer work, would have been nice to offer. Nope, so off I went, reading each sign I came to. There are A LOT of lockers! I stopped counting after 60! Inside each is a hanger and shelf for shoes and personal items. The key for the locker is on water safe bracelet. ALWAYS START BY FULLY SHOWERING BEFORE USING ANY POOL OR ROOM! The hot whirlpool was large perfect temp and could easily accommodate 10, but it was chlorine, which I'm not wild about. The steam rooms were HUGE! Plenty of room and plenty of fabulous hot steam. The dry sauna was also a very nice size and perfectly dry heat. The cold plunge here was used waaaay more than any cold plunge I've seen at a spa and I was one of those participants. LOVE ME A COLD PLUNGE! Lots of showers all around, some for just standing, but others with features so you can sit and shave your legs, or pre scrub. The only thing lacking in the shower area was a place to put your bin or towel. Most ladies ended up putting them on a wall around the whirl pool, but that wasn't always the driest or closest place. If you don't want people tracking wet bodies into the dry locker area, provide some areas for towels to remain dry while showering. My scrub was good, albeit not as thorough as I'm use to, but good. Again, the chlorine played an important role in skin removal. LOL! But here's something I observed, the scrub and facial or massage were also done in the same area, along with the other scrub tables. At K-Town spas, if you're getting multiple services, they may start with your scrub in the community scrub area, but move you to a quiet area for facial or massage. Here, they just continued the services in the scrub area. No frills, just giving you the service you ordered. Hmmm.... After my scrub, I got dressed in my uniform and headed upstairs to the community/share rooms for some lunch and more relaxation. My lunch of seaweed soup was fabulous and I sat with a nice view of the local neighborhood. When I was done, I checked out the "Theme Rooms" which men and women share. I was only able to try the cedar oxygen room, the ice room and the lounge. All the other rooms I would have tried if I were in my birthday suit, but they were set way to hot for trying with clothes on. I may try the sleep area, nice these ARE separate for men and ladies, but I'll remember to bring a cover for my eyes since the lights are on FULL, fluoresce in here. Hopefully my photos help provide more insight. It was pretty quiet for a Thursday and I would go back, but honestly, a big draw is the cafe's seaweed soup. It isn't Wi Spa ... No unlimited towels. Small and cramped in the wet area. The co-ed area with the various rooms is also pretty cramped. But the WORST is the restaurant. This is a sad review to write, but it has to happen. I have been going to this spa for at least a year and a half to two years once a week. I don't bother anybody. I'm super friendly. . Today A woman decided it was her job to go complain about me putting pink conditioner in my hair, and then I watched her proceed to complain about other people minding their own business, and I've had enough. This is a place to relax it's not a place to be under surveillance I know how to behave in a Korean spa. I don't need to be corrected by her. It's a shame too, because I like this place a lot, but I will not be back and I will also be telling all the people that I recommended not to come here anymore. Been coming here for years now. Gradually over the years the downstairs spa area has slowly gotten dirtier throughout the years. Used to be spotless. Other then that an absolute great spa maybe even the best within a 40 mile radius. Highly reccomend. The kitchen upstairs is absolutely amazing. We came here on a Friday. Wanted to check out the atmosphere on what I thought would be part of a busiest time. To my surprise, though there were people on each sauna room, the place was big enough to accommodate and wander around without being too crowded in the co-ed section. Additional Parking spots easily accessible underground which is shared with a market next door. Admission was $33 without any services but can stay as long as you like so no rush to use facilities for sauna/steam and relaxation. I believe, if you get some services done admission is waive. Our next stop would be to get scrub and massage done. The restaurant on the 2nd level where all the sauna rooms and co-ed section were located. If you haven't been to a Korean spa, there is a female and male locker and shower area complete with a sauna, steam room, warm and cold bath. They also have treatments (I would recommend the scrub, you'll be as smooth as a baby!) Upstairs is the coed area, which has multiple rooms of different temperatures and benefits as well as a restaurant. In the multiple times I've gone, I've had good experiences and have left feeling refreshed and verrryyyy clean. My only gripe is that they don't have online booking for treatments (you request an appointment and they call you), the restaurant is a little pricey (but still delicious), and there really isn't enforcement of quiet rules, so other customers can sometimes talk waaayyy too loud. I have been to a few Korean Spas and this one is very clean. They have a heated floor near the lunch area that's nice to relax and read a book. I got a body scrub followed by a 90 minute massage. The body scrub was nice, there were any scented oils to choose from with the short scrub. I prefer to have an oil infused body scrub. The lady was very friendly. I scheduled a Korean body scrub and massage based on an LA Times story recommending Descanso Garden Spa. If you've been to Wi Spa, you'll know what to expect: gender-separated jacuzzis, steam roooms, cold plunge and saunas as well as a mixed-gender floor featuring sleeping rooms, a cold sauna, a salt room, a cedar oxygen room, etc. You'll receive a set of shorts and T-shirt (no slippers, feel free to bring your own to use in the gender-separated areas) and towels. Lockers are available. As many other reviewers have commented, the spa is spotless and sparkling clean. Sunny was my scrub technician.massage therapist and was very thorough, thoughtful and caring. My skin felt brand new and my mind felt relaxed after my treatment. For treatments over a certain price range, the admission free to the spa is waived. I also had lunch in the cafe, which was delicious (hot stone bibimbap, as recommended by the staff and a brand of Korean iced black tea, very refreshing.) Just two hours before our scheduled appointment, the staff called and asked me to cancel one person's service because they didn't have a masseuse available. I asked to speak with a manager, but the staff told me the manager "could not help." When I insisted on speaking to the manager anyway, they then said the manager had already left for the day--at 10 a.m. This completely defeated the purpose of booking a couples experience and ruined our anniversary plans. Staffing issues should never be the customer's problem--especially with last-minute notice and no proper solution offered. Extremely unprofessional and poor planning. I received a gift certificate and had an Aroma Massage scrub from Jenny. It was $110 + tip and you are allowed to use the wet room downstairs (steam room, jacuzzi, sauna, showers galore) and the upstairs rooms. Downstairs is a nude experience, with males and females separated. You can wear indoor flip flops. Upstairs is coed and you are given a shirt and shorts uniform to wear up there, where it is barefoot only. Upstairs has an oxygen room and several hot rooms and one cold room. My favorite was the salt room where you lay on a mat on top of tumbled salt rocks. Jenny was wonderful and has worked there for 10 years. I cannot count the number of layers of product that were put on me and washed or scrubbed off. I do worry about cleanliness and was very pleased except for one patron who coughed and coughed and coughed. After showering, a dunk in the jacuzzi and dry sauna, you go upstairs to the jjimjilbang, where there are a few themed rooms. After the themed rooms, which made me feel totally relaxed, I went to their restaurant/cafe, where they had a wide variety of Korean dishes. Their stone pot bibimbap was AMAZING!!! Another big plus with Descanso Garden Spa is the affordability ($30 entrance fee). Parking is free....if you can't find a parking space on the top floor, there's parking on the bottom floor, with an elevator that takes you right to the spa's front door. Not only that they are very hygienic and clean, the workers are absolutely professional and welcoming. I'm so happy hat I don't have to drive to K Town for jjimjilbang anymore. Descanso Garden Spa is minutes from my home and the drive is definitely not stressful. The spa has ample parking and the facility is immaculate. The ajumma are so nice. The seshin areas are gender segregated, but the jjimjilbang rooms are coed. There is a really nice family feeling at this spa, which adds to the communal experience. I came with my daughter and niece, and after seshin, we had lunch on the premises followed by relaxing in the jjimjilbang rooms and communal areas. The only miss was the front desk staff--the two male receptionists were impatient and spoke to us with annoyance. I'm hoping our next trip will be an overall pleasant experience because I'd really like to give this spa a 5-star rating. read more

Wife and I enjoy the Korean spa experience. Tried out the Descanso GS since it's only 3 miles from home. The entry price of $30 is reasonable and you can stay all day. The front desk handed my wife a nice white towel and a cute pink uniform. I got a blue suit and was told the men's towels are in the locker room. Well not today. They only had small brown hand towels. The steam sauna and hot jacuzzi were nice in the men's area. Upstairs are all the mineral hot rooms. Mostly enjoyable but it must have the Glendale brotherhood day. Old dudes yakking away in the rooms like they were in a board meeting. Total turn off for me. Perhaps the couldn't read the room or the signs that requested quiet? Anyway it seemed weird there were a lot of "unattached" men in the spa that day. Made me feel a bit uncomfortable. Hard to get in the parking lot if approaching from the east. No left turn allowed into the lot. Have to go down to the next light and make a u-turn. read more

Very happy we have a Korean spa in the neighborhood! Definitely on the smaller end, but that's all I need. It's clean, the staff is friendly, the services are outstanding, and a great bang for your buck. I was running late for my scrub, and when I got there, the kind lady at the front offered to push my appointment so I can have more time to soak. I was beyond thankful! She definitely didn't need to do that, and my skin was very appreciative of the needed soak time before the hardcore scrub. This place has everything you need without having to drive to Ktown - hot tub, cold tub, steam, sauna, plenty of showers, various heated rooms on the second floor (and a cooling room), quiet rooms, and a restaurant that I haven't tried yet. Parking lot is free and plenty. If you book a service the entrance fee is waived, without a service I believe it's $33 to use the amenities all day long. The day pass allows access to the wet areas (which are separated by gender), themed rooms and cafeteria. I stayed for a couple of hours but honestly, I could have easily stayed much longer if I didn't have any plans after. First floor - wet areas that include lockers, showers, jacuzzi, cold plunge pool, saunas (steam and dry). These spaces are split by gender, so all the women's areas are on the left and the men's are on the right Second floor - themed rooms, cafeteria and patio. These are co-ed, except for the sleeping rooms, which are gendered. Everyone here minds their business and it was overall a very serene place to be.
