In another lifetime (early 90s) I lived in Korea for a couple of years in the older part of the country. Indoor plumbing within homes was not common and once a week a family would head to their neighborhood bathhouse for a moment to relax and clean up. Usually these local facilities were small, clean and very efficient. Stepping into Descanso Spa took me right back to these neighborhood spas in Korea. It's super clean and the staff is very attentive and friendly. The clientele is a mixed crowd of ages and were there to clean up, relax for a minute and then peace out. Granted, there isn't a lot of lounging room within the actual spa area, but this wet area seemed to have a high turn around. Upstairs in the coed area, there were endless themed saunas, a sleeping room and a restaurant. I decided to have a basic scrub and oil massage. It all took place right there within the wet spa area, where there is a no clothing policy (common for Korean spas). Leaving my modesty in the locker room, I was scrubbed, kneaded and stretched which all felt good and familiar. However... at one point the therapist covered my shoulders and head with minty infused towels that felt wonderfully cooling... and honest to god, I started having hallucinations. It was an incredible sensation. Other than the occasional oblivious guy who'd walk out of the sauna dripping with sweat and jump into the cold plunge without showering, everyone was well behaved and respectful. A beautifully clean spa with so many options. I really loved the steam room and cold plunge, everything sparkles, and I feel very comfortable being naked here. My other favorite was the Himalayan Salt Room, and the Oxygen Cedar Room. The food on the second floor is delicious, but the portions very small and it is expensive. I look forward to the body scrub next time! But will eat elsewhere. I cannot post photos here, because we are all naked inside! ;) read more

I usually don't leave negative reviews unless a place leaves a bad taste in my mouth. First and last time at the spa. I booked two Acupressure massages, on for myself and one for my wife as we're celebrating our first year wedding anniversary. When we got to the massage portion of our massages we were put in the couples massage room, now you would think if I purchased two of the exact same massages, we would get two of the exact same massages. My wife did not receive anything anywhere near a massage, ON TOP of having a loud vibrating noise going off every 5 minutes THE ENTIRE TIME. How could you relax???- no it was not our phone. Those were turned off before entering. Anyway the massage my wife received was mostly a lady just digging her knuckles very lightly on her skin, no oil, nothing. The entire massage there was a sheet and towel on top of my wife which is how they were performing this "massage" while on my end my back was being walked on, the pressure was great. Now if both massages I paid for were the same why did my wife not receive anywhere near the same treatment I did? Also, in the middle of our massages some one in the hallway was screaming and crying yelling at what I'm assuming is some one that works at the spa. The workers seemed to be trying to calm her down and eventually after about 10 minutes of it, it stopped. Once the massages were completed, and I spoke to my wife to let me know how upset she was at the service, we decided to head out. Now I don't know how guests are expected to relax at a place like this with everything going on but this is going to be the last time for us. Definitely not a good experience. Try elsewhere. read more

Really like this place. Cozy, quiet, comfortable, easy to navigate, has everything you might need at the spa. The front desk staff are always nice and welcoming, always quick to help or answer whatever questions you may have. $33 for a day pass is absolutely worth it. However, when I visited on Sunday I can across children between 5 and 12 in the sauna rooms upstairs. The facility was super clean. It was my first time and I got the scrub and massage package which was about 85% scrub and 15% massage. It left my skin a bit irritated and itchy after asking for a gentle scrub. But the steam room along with the other therapy rooms were very pleasant and relaxing. I was very impressed by the cafeteria- we enjoyed bibimbap, dumplings, and tea which was a perfect end to the experience. read more

Living pretty far away from Koreatown, Descanso Garden Spa is a great option for an easy spa day. I came here on my day off to relax and it was really spacious with lots of rooms that provided different health experiences. There weren't a lot customers so there was an ease to the place - it was super peaceful. I happened to come on a day when the restaurant was closed so I need to go back to try that out. I did have a massage which was fine. I don't think that I would come back for a massage service. I would definitely do a scrub next time. I loved their cold room which was very refreshing after being in some of the heated sauna type rooms. They have an oxygenated napping area, a salt room, a yellow soil charcoal room, a cedar oxygen room, and a germanium room with plaques outside each one to tell you the health benefit of each room. Descanso Garden Spa is the best spa option outside of the hustle and bustle of LA. My wife and I were looking for a spa date and we were deciding between Wi Spa and Descanso Garden, but I'm glad I went with Descanso. They both cost $30 for the day pass but the parking is free here so you're already saving money! I really liked the environment here. The common area wasn't too loud and they had a good variety of rooms, from a salt room to even a sleep room. The gender specific spa area was smaller than Wi Spa, but very well kept. There was a steam room, dry sauna, a very hot jacuzzi, and a cold plunge pool. I'd also recommend reading all the signs that display the rules for the spa. There are a lot, but following them helps keep the spa clean and everyone happy. The food in the cafeteria is pretty pricey so I actually snuck in some small snacks and ate it while my wife and I watched Netflix on our iPad. I'd highly recommend coming here if you're looking to relax and spend time with friends/family read more

I'm a regular customer to spa the but the restaurant have been closed since the pandemic . Recently, I heard they opened the restaurant so I had to try it. I used to love their 오뽁 and it was so amazing as well. I think they have the new owner of restaurant and the food is even better than before. 육계장 Spicy Beef Soup was the bomb. Writing this review because the wildfires made me genuinely concerned I would lose my favorite spa in Los Angeles. Descanso is perfect - it's lowkey, affordable, never too crowded, always clean, and friendly service. My friends and I love to come here and decompress after a night out, a long week, or a trip to the forest. It's in the beautiful Tujunga Canyon which has very scenic drives and lookouts nearby. Even from the Cedar room you can catch a good view. I've never had issues with other spa guests or my personal belongings either. Highlight of this spa is the adorable kid working the register at the restaurant, which is great food as well. Plenty of antioxidants and spices to treat your gut too :) PS they have a smoking area outside the restaurant which really comes in clutch if you want to dissociate in the sauna after. read more

we love coming here.. but most recently their prices have gone up (so has everwhere else.. i get it) but the service has been lacking. Sweet older ladies are being overworked maybe? Jenny, as sweet as she was maybe needs to retire? I got the 90min aroma scrub w message .. and everything seems very soft and not as thoroughly done as previous visits. The scrub could have been harder to get more dead skin off and the message felt like an overly oily rub down with no messaging involved .. just rubbing.. Even though i was highly disappointed at the lack of service I still tipped her well but couldn't help thinking maybe i didnt get what i paid for :/ read more

Great spa! I haven't done any massage or scrub services, but the Men's Spa, Jjimjilmang, and upstairs restaurant are all great! I wish they would stay open a little longer to fit my after-work schedule (11pm or midnight), but I understand that the town is dead past 10pm. me and my mother decided to spend our Sunday afternoon at Descanso Garden spa. She has a health condition which only allows her to eat very select foods so she brought her own. I sat down and ordered my food, and she sat down next to me and brought out her meal that she had brought from Home. The guy proceeded to yell across the kitchen and was saying "NO NO OUTSIDE FOOD" she then went up there to try and talk to him to explain the circumstances where he proceeded to ignore her and look away. I then went up to go get some more pickled daikon, and the lady proceeded to give me a big lecture about not bringing outside food and how you're not allowed to do that and how if I wanted to do that I need to let her know she also only gave me two pieces of daikon and shoved it in my face to punish me. me and my mom love this spa and come here often, but after our experience with the kitchen today, I won't be eating here again. The workers are extremely rude and disrespectful and they lost my business. read more
