Chuan Spa has become my go-to place for an extra treat. I have an autoimmune disease/chronic pain, so I get a 90-minute massage every other week at Massage Envy--which is a better price point for regular treatments. I've had probably 1,000 massages in my 43 years of life. But after seeing her twice now I can honestly say that Jenae (Jenay?) is the best masseuse I have ever had. Hands down. And I've had some really good massages. My regular guy is amazing. But she is life-changing!! I just wish I could afford to come here more regularly to see her. This last time I had a 90-minute massage with her and it was epic. Perfect combination of therapeutic/working out tightness and relaxation. Every single movement of hers is purposeful and exactly what I needed. In general, I actually prefer the amenities at Burke Williams (Pasadena) better--and it's not as expensive. But I will continue to come here exclusively as long as Jenae is here! I hope you do whatever it takes to make sure you hang on to her! read more

Well, this was a really expensive spa experience. I highly recommend if anybody is staying at the Langham that they come here and treat themselves to an hour long spa session. I showed up a half an hour early so that I could go and enjoy the sauna and the hot tub and just really get into a fully relaxed state of mind before I went and I had my aromatherapy massage. I do not typically get massages, but I wanted to go and treat myself since I have been stressed lately and was on vacation. It's very serene inside and quiet and everybody is so nice and helpful. My massage was amazing and I felt so relaxed. After afterwards I came back to my room and napped for two hours. This is something that I never really gonna do so it was so worth it. Once my massage was over too they take you into this relaxation lounge and they gave me Me a cup of hibiscus tea and a macaron and there were snacks and more waters and all around. It's just a really great place to go and sit and relax and unwind. read more

Had a lovely experience with Anne during our Sound Bath Experience, booked via phone with Elise the Thursday preceding. This Wellness Experience is held the first Saturday , usually in the Japanese garden, which we were really looking forward to. But Mother Nature had other thoughts and the severe and sudden downpour just 2 hours after I booked Thursday, left the grass too wet to practice laying about and "meditating". For some, like Hubs, Sound Bath was another way of phrasing "mid morning nap". But his gentle purrs(aka snores) were nothing compared to the noisus interuptus that was a delivery truck seemingly stuck in reverse far longer than seemed necessary. Poor Anne's dulcet words were punctuated thusly: 'Imagine the - "beep" - vibrations of - "beep" - calm washing "beep" - over you - "beep" - creating light - "beep" - and positiv -"beep" - ity...' She decided perhaps more singing bowl was needed until the truck could be put back in gear. It worked, we returned to a relaxed state of bliss to end our session. Kidding aside, I get the need to move the meditation from the garden to a conference room. We were even give the option of a refund if we did not wish to do the inside session, but we were there, so we did. I suggest, should the need arise again, maybe a space indoor somewhere CLOSER to a garden and not immediately over the delivery area. Later we walked around and visited the Japanese garden. It was lovely, but did seem a bit more "saturated" than would've been comfortable, but no one was around the area of the Horseshoe garden, and there were other areas opposite the Picture Bridge that were unoccupied as well. But Nan was a trouper and did a fine job guiding us. Once we were done bathing in sound, Hubs and I were able to enjoy Chaun Spa itself. Thank you to Elise for extending this treat to us on this day. Just a note, on very busy days, like this Saturday in April, the spa gets busy and they usually hand out day passes to those booking exercise or wellness activities to be used in the future to keep the spa amenities for those who have booked services or have a membership. Hubs and I were able to use the whirlpool tub, dry sauna and steam - WOW! Was THAT STEAMY! - located within both the men's and ladies locker rooms. Showers were cleaned quickly, lots of fresh towels, plenty of ice cold washcloths, which are a MUST when steaming and refreshing fruit and mint infused water was provided. As new guests were shown in, a great job was done to spread people around the lockers so we weren't all coming and going from the same 3ft space at once. This was GREATLY appreciated! There was a bit of a plumbing glitch on this very busy day, but Cathy was such a GREAT communicator to the guests, keeping anyone lingering in common areas abreast of the progress and how sources were restructured to assure continuing comfort and relaxation. What a FANTASTIC employee! My 2 hours were plenty to enjoy a dip, a steam, some dry heat before a relaxing shower and a brief nap before getting dressed to peruse the rest of the beautiful grounds. Parking was validated by the spa attendant at check in, giving me a discount rate of $15 for the non-optional Valet. Pay at the Valet Stand on the way out. Service there was also pretty darn quick and organized. A lovely relaxing day, indeed, and I think we just may be back to try the sound bath again on a future Saturday, with designs of using the comp day pass on another day through the week. Cheers! I had a 90 minute therapeutic massage, the therapist did an excellent job working the many knots out of my back. Upon arriving we were greeted by a very friendly team of front desk staff that helped to check us in and gave us a tour of the facility. We were able to use the sauna and facilities before our services which were all very clean and well stocked. I had a deep tissue massage with Brian and it was one of the best massages I've ever had. He was able to get out all the knots that I had in my back and knew how to apply just the right amount of pressure. I left feeling refreshed and like new. What an amazing spa! In town visiting my husband who is here with US Army Engineers helping with wildfire recovery. He is staying at the Langham Huntington Hotel and he spoiled me with 3 days at the Chuan Spa! 80 min facial, a body salt scrub & mud pack, 25 min facial, and feet retreat 60 min foot massage! ALL of the ladies at the front desk [Rebecca, Lisa & Kristin (?)] are amazing as well as all of the treatment specialists I engaged with. [Colleen, Reetu (?), Effie, and Marta]. What a great staff all around!! The plush robes, locker room vanities, dream room, sauna, steam room and hot tub are so relaxing. I'll request her when I return. $230.00 1100 - Lunch at the Langham in our robes. Haha. Food was pretty good. Service also excellent. Only drawback was they had just applied fertilizer to the grounds and you could definitely smell it. 1230 - back to the spa for steam, dry sauna, and more hot tubbing. 1400 - express sleep pretty facial with complimentary auricular acupressure therapy. 30min later I left glowing. $150 1500 - relaxing in the dream room quiet lounge. was soooo relaxing. 1600 - showered and got ready to end the day but before that, we got dressed and strolled around the gardens again. The one thing we noticed and I have to mention is the housekeeping staff. Cathy and Sabrina were the silent workers that deserve sooooo much credit. Valet parking is now $15 rather than $10 guys! And I am just loving this place more with time! The property is BEAUTIFUL. Even if you live in the area, I'd recommend staying a night at the Langham just to check out the entire property. My husband decided to surprise me for my birthday with a much needed spa day! I arrived around 9 am and checked in and it wasn't that busy. The changing area for the ladies was a bit small and cramped. I saw that some of the ladies were awkwardly changing at random times so they could just have some privacy and space. The services I got were the hydrafacial and a back massage. He booked my appointments with a little bit of a gap so that I could enjoy the amenities. The hydro facial was about an hour and was truly amazing. It even included a little massage towards the end. Then after my service was done, I went out and lounged around for a bit before my next service. The massage was mediocre at best and I honestly didn't truly enjoy it. The masseuse went hard and I told her to ease up a bit but it was still a bit rough. I felt the aches and pains later in the day from it. Overall, I think this is a great spa if you don't mind the price. It's quite pricey but the hydrafacial was amazing though! read more

Lovely relaxing time at Chuan. You fill out a questionnaire first and then have access to gym equipment and a steam room and sauna. The actual massage itself was wonderful. I asked for deep tissue pressure and boy that is what I got! They worked extra on areas I am more stiff in and I am happy they listened. The day bed area is also very nice and quiet. It's amazing and I have to come back some time. I arrived a few hours before my massage to take advantage of the fitness room and spa amenities. Their gym has a bunch of different machines and weights and certainly doesn't feel like a bare bones hotel fitness room. After exercising, I was able to enjoy a hot shower. I appreciate that their were so many showers available even on an Saturday so I never had to wait. The showers have this really good smelling eucalyptus shower spray that is available to purchase at the store near the front desk. The spa amenities are really nice and clean. I was able to enjoy the sauna and steam room for a few sessions along with the hot top. One thing that was great is that they provide cold washcloths next to the hot top that you can use to cool yourself down. My massage was wonderful. I got the 30 minute neck/back/shoulder massage. The time usually passes by really quickly but it surprisingly felt longer than 30 minutes. After the massage, I for too relish in the water bed in the dream room. It was extremely comfortable and I didn't want to get up. I was SO relaxed after I left the spa. This entire experience gets a 10/10 & would highly recommend from me. read more

She was very accommodating to my requests for additional time spent on my shoulder blades which is where I carry tons of tension. Came to stay at The Langham on our honeymoon and was really looking forward to the spa because of the positive reviews. Never in my life have I been treated so poorly and so dismissively by front desk staff. There was not one ounce of warmth or kindness. They made me feel like less than a speck of dirt. Spending all this money, the LEAST you can do is just be kind. No greeting or acknowledgement of my existence on the way in and I was COMPLETELY IGNORED when I told them thanks on the way out. They didn't even look up. It made me feel awful about myself. If the rest of the hotel staff weren't so wonderful, the front desk at the spa would have ruined this experience entirely for me. read more

Was gifted a Sublime Facial for Christmas so I finally came for a solo spa day on a Saturday! The Langham is a beautiful hotel so I figured the spa would be equally amazing. It was a really good experience. I received a quick tour of the facilities upon arrival, changed into my robe, then went to the waiting area for my service. The hallways are very dark and dimly lit to ease you into a relaxed mode. Honestly, it just made me sleepy (lol) but I appreciated the peaceful atmosphere -- very zen and much needed after a stressful work week. The lady who gave me my facial did a great job. My face felt very clean, smooth, and hydrated. I was given some chocolates and a glass of champagne following my service which I enjoyed in the relaxation room on a day bed of sorts. My goal that day was to maximize my time there, so I alternated between the jacuzzi, steam room, dry sauna, and fitness center. Definitely think I had a proper detox and fully maximized spa day! In the future, if I want a full, all-out self pamper day I might splurge on another treatment here. It's pretty pricey though - $235 at the time of this post for a Sublime Facial. read more

For such a beautiful hotel, I Would never come back here. Went yesterday for a girls spa day. The spa is old and dingy. Didn't feel clean. The spa itself was so small. The jacuzzi could only take maybe 4 people at a time, as well as the sauna and steam room. Locker space was small, had very basic products to use. Now the massage, it was very awkward the masseuse had me turn over 3 times!! Started face forward, then back and then again face forward. It didn't feel relaxing and the massage therapist felt like she was new and didn't know what she was doing. For the amount of money this supposed luxury spa costs don't waste your money go to the four seasons westlake instead. read more

Chuan Spa - Waiting area - Massage Near Me - Pasadena, California

I took an entire day just to myself and arrived at Chuan at 11am and stayed until 6pm. Lisa was a wonderful tour guide and she introduced me to the various areas available to me as a first-timer. Lucky me! It was a Mimosa Monday, so I indulged in just one. Chuan is beautiful, generally serene and relaxing. There were some minor glitches though... The Fitness Center has no schedule available online so I missed all the morning classes. It changes weekly but they really should post it online! Pilates would've been just $20 extra, reservation required. The jacuzzi has a handicapped lift, so that's very inclusive. It's a small jacuzzi though, with room for four, comfortably - or maybe six crowded. Another minor annoyance, the drain makes a sucking noise which is distracting and it's louder than the spa music! The wet sauna is also small, with room for four or eight- depending on how "close" you want to be. Be careful to veer left and sit on the left side because there's a steam vent on the right side that will burn you if you're sitting on the bottom step. There's not really enough room for any more than two people to lie down. Space availability in the dry sauna room is the same. The entire sauna area has only four chairs and one recliner, so it can be a bit competitive! Ice-cold scented washcloths, dry towels and cold water are all readily available. The Dream Room was very nice. They're not waterbeds as previously reported by another Yelper but they are ultra super comfy mattresses. It does get very drafty when the air comes on so take towels and your robe to cover up. This is where they hide the oranges and apples because they are NOT in the co-ed waiting room. The co-ed waiting room has a waterfall effect wall, slivered almonds, craisins, water, magazines and wall plugs (but cell phone use is highly discouraged.) The dressing room lockers are TINY, but don't bother to ask for a FULL SIZE locker because they are reserved for members only! OMG, you can't even hang a tshirt in the small ones. Included are the use of the Chuan robe, plastic slippers, combs, wet bag, hairspray, deodorant, body lotion, qtips, cotton pads and other toiletry items upon request. Bathrooms include a funky disposable shaver dispenser. Showers have shampoo, conditioner, shave cream, shower gel, washcloths and eucalyptus spray for scenting your steam. The rainshower heads don't have a handheld option nor adjustable pressure. I did not see anything on the website that says that clothing is optional, but it is. Naked is what the majority seem to go for with others wearing only swimsuit bottoms. I also treated myself to an Olaplex conditioning treatment with haircut and blow-out by the talented Felipa. What an enjoyable experience! Felipa knows her way around long, thick hair and she was very easy to talk to. I highly recommend her. Wonderful experience. Started with the tour which was super helpful to know where to go. one key highlight was the Sound Bath Meditation- outside in the garden. So peaceful and set the tone for the day of healing and peace. The sound bath teacher was great in her choice of instruments, spraying of lavender mist and burning of sage. Andrea, my massage lady was awesome! Just the right amount of pressure and great strokes to make me feel so relaxed and cared for. The oils added a beautiful scent to relax and to heal. It was one of the best massages I've had in the USA, and I've traveled to 43 countries and had massages all over the world. Andrea is excellent!!! What an experience.... I've always craved a higher end experience and decided to give this place a try given all of the positive comments i heard. From the initial phone calls to set up my appointment, to them accept my expired gift card due to Covid, everything was stupendous. Everyone was super friendly, from the Valet to the people checking me in. Derek and Micaela (hope I'm spelling this correctly) at the front desk were SO friendly and helpful, their positive attitude contagious as well. Made the experience even better. Bryan gave me the 2nd best massage I have ever had in my life, I felt so much lighter on my feet. He really knows what I'm doing. I wanted to tip him but I had an issue with the credit card and gift card and was gonna pay cash? I have no idea what happened in the end as I was so relaxed I kept on smiling and laughing uncontrollably. Haven't felt that relaxed in a long.......time. Outstanding spa and massage experience at Chuan spa at the langham. I got to come here for lady lawyer's day at my law firm. It was awesome that my firm paid for any spa treatment I wanted here. I got the swedish massage. It was amazing, I almost fell asleep during the massage. I absolutely loved the interior of the spa, it looked like the foyer of James Bond's underground home. The hot tub and sauna were very clean and beautiful too. I learned about the eucalyptus shower spray here and bought one for myself and my mom for christmas. I love coming to the Chuan spa...it's quite and peaceful especially if you come on a weekday. I love getting my haircut from Felipa who is super nice and great with styling my hair. I always wish I had a date or plans to go out when she's done styling my hair. I love the spa facilities and the friendly service...big shout to their mimosa Monday's! Of the last 10 times I've been here, only once there was a crowd and it became loud. Mostly it's a zen place which I enjoy since thats why I go to the spa! The only reason I'm not giving them 5 stars is that they charge you for valet. I do miss the complimentary parking they used to have for the spa guests in the past.
