Could not beat the price! $35 for early bid 60 min massage. The massage was very good the lady worked very hard trying to unknot my entire body. The place was reasonably clean. The ladies barely know English, the oils they use is very cheap and the place is not fancy. But for the price you pay you get more than what is expected. My only complaint is that they did not bother to ask me if I have any injuries or restrictions before getting starting and twisting and relaxing my muscles. I think it is very crucial to ask someone if they have any injuries or restrictions before stretching and pulling. Btw I had to tell them many times to not be so hard so you don't have to worry you about not getting a deep tissue massage, the ladies are strong and do a great job! I will be back! I recently had a long trip to the east coast and after sitting at an airport and plane for 11 hours I could feel a bit funny. Add weightlifting to that and it makes everything just feel sore. My usual place was a bit busy so I decided to jump on Yelp and find something closer to home. Finding Descanso was so close to my house and had a high yelp review rating, so I gave this place a try. Parking For the most part is a bit tight. They are apart of a strip-mall and in a small one with only a single driveway. That makes going in and out of the lot a bit troublesome. Especially since there isn't any room to make a three point turn. But if you get a space its great! Reservations Same day reservations can be made. However, please inform them of how long you intend to stay. As a Powerlifter I require 2 hours of therapy and any less doesn't really help me much and the last time I was there they had to cut me short 20min due to a schedule conflict. Massage Traditional Thai massage. The therapists are very skilled and they pay attention to your body. Make sure you tell them where your trouble areas are and they will take care of you. Getting stepped on is the BEST! Overall, I waited to post this after two visits as I always want to make sure that the service was constant even with a different therapist. But it was over a great experience. They were extremely kind to me on the phone and reserving ahead of time is definitely a plus. WORD OF WARNING they only accept cash. So bring plenty. I have received both the BEST and the WORST massage at this location. I train MMA and get massages regularly. I tried this place last Tuesday bc it was right next to my job and I needed some additional work done to supplement my normal place. Omg, it was THE BEST massage I've ever received. She said her name was sandy and this woman knew my body better than me checked in with me throughout and made comments when parts were "not good" and "okay" and "lots of pain here", and I confirmed each time; it was amazing. She even gave me a couple daily stretches to assist with the painful/bad spots. I came today and had the worst massage. I had called ahead and asked specifically for sandy. When I arrived, a woman came in and started working with me. I couldn't remember what sandy looked like, esp with masks, so I asked if her name was sandy. She said yes, but made no comment when I mentioned the stretches she gave me last week. She didn't stand/walk on me. She didn't check in with me. It was a glorified lotion-ing with Thai oil. I am frustrated in the dishonesty and shadiness that they could have said sandy wasn't available and to try again another day. And I'm disappointed in the lack of a decent massage. It seems like this place is really a gamble on whether you get a good massage or not, and I can't afford the odds, especially when the crew are dishonest in the scheduling/requests of their masseuses. read more

Damn I am so annoyed. I can officially say I had the WORST massage in LA, California. I was within the area and had time to kill so I thought the best way was to get a massage here. I never heard of a Thai massage but it seemed to be pretty popular so I gave it a chance. I'm originally from NYC and Thai massages aren't really heard of. It's usually Chinese or Korean massages. I came here due to all the reviews and I regret it so much. The place didn't seem inviting. $55 for 90 minutes? Yes please but I am genuinely concerned because the lady I had NO STRENGTH at all. The whole 90 minutes felt like she was just touching me as if she's checking my body temperature. You know when you have a headache and someone gently touches your forehead to feel? She was doing that the whole time. That was how my "massage" felt. It felt like she was just petting me. I was so confused throughout the whole massage and within the first 15 minutes, I just wanted it to be finished. Before the massage, I told the lady in the front I wanted someone strong. She said okay. Then the lady who did my massage asked if I liked it light, medium or hard and I replied really hard please. She asked me where I wanted my body to be more focused on and I said my neck and shoulders. But.. why ask when you didn't even bother doing it? Super confusing and weird. The massage was really bizarre. I never had one that made me just want to leave so bad because how terrible it was. I don't think she was meant to be a masseuse.. she was an old lady who had no strength whatsoever. The hubby and I wanted to treat ourselves to a nice massage. Having been to a few local massage parlors, we knew that we wanted to try a new place and didn't want to break the bank. Enter Descanso Thai Massage! This place is located in a small strip mall and has free parking. We walked upstairs and were promptly greeted and offered water. The waiting area was peaceful with the sound of water creating an ambient white noise along with simple yet tasteful decor. We were called into the room where we undressed and waiting for our masseuses. When they walked in, they asked how we wanted the pressure and we both said medium. I would suggest asking for hard as the medium was very light, but felt amazing never-the-less. They asked if it was okay to walk on our backs and we said yes - that part hard amazing pressure! When the massage was over, they walked out, let us dress and then we went to the front desk to pay. It was an extremely smooth and easy process and we talked about how great we felt on the drive home. I 100% recommend this place to anyone looking to treat themselves while not spending much money. The good: personal fans in each room, relaxing music, very quiet since they're not as popular as the other spas...and that's about it. The not so good: I paid someone to basically just rub oil all over my body. Little to no pressure, even when I asked for more. And then I ended up giving a 33% tip because my masseuse didn't make the move to give me change. It was 20 seconds of super awkwardness and because I felt bad they weren't getting any business, I let her keep it and walked out. Oh, and with no water either. When I tell you Descanso Thai Massage is amazing I mean it! I got my first ever massage with them a year ago after I took a tumble down the stairs and messed up my back. I've never been one who tends to do many things out of their comfort zone and I've been anxious my entire like but my back was telling me I needed to suck it up and go get a massage. When I made my appointment I was so nervous walking in, having no idea how much I'm supposed to undress and let's be real the naked anxiety is real. Immediately I was told to undress but keep my underwear on which made me feel immensely better and then for the next hour I was completely relax and the knots that have been permanent residents in my shoulders were worked away. My masseuse kept checking in with me to see if I was ok and I was more relaxed than I'd ever been in my life. I just got my second massage with them and I cannot say enough good things about them. They are very respectful, have an incredibly tranquil atmosphere and they have a basket of candy! What more can you want? I'm a novice when it comes to massages but this was wonderful for an anxious newby. This is a cash only business but the extra step of going to the atm to get 60$ out is totally worth it. This is my 2nd time getting a Thai Massage and I do have mixed feelings. My first massage felt a lot more authentic and there was a lot more stretching going on in comparison to a massage at Descanso. I get massages often so I do have some "experience". Positives: Easy to get an appointment, Clean, Comfortable table and fan in the room. $35 per hour. Easy parking. Negatives: Cash only (or at least thats what I was told). Some parts of my massage felt extremely painful and I thought for sure that there will be bruises as a result. Other parts of my massage felt like someone was lightly rubbing oil on my body and there was no comprehension of pressure points. The part where the masseus walks on you was scary to me and I made a mental note to google if anyone was ever paralyzed after a massage mishap. Next, she got oil on my hair and nobody wants oil all over their hair especially since I didn't go on my hair wash day. The paper used to protect your face from touching the table left ugly marks all over my face. My other massage place uses soft towels so thats never a problem. Did a quick yelp search and found this little hidden gem. Place is small and cozy, yet very authentic. The woman just would not listen to me, and spent most of her time walking on my back and legs. I finally told her to stop the massage completely, 10 minutes early. This review is for the customer service. I bought my senior mom 2 gift certificates for Christmas 2019. Unfortunately, COVID happened in 2020 and as we all know, it would be unsafe to for my SENIOR mom to engage in any activity outside of the home, let alone a massage place. My mother is now vaccinated and able to safely do more outside of the home and asked if we could go get massages. Well, I called the the business and explained our situation and asked if they would be able to redeem the certificates (knowing they are only valid for a year) because of the whole COVID situation and my mom's age. The lady I spoke to was not helpful at all! All she kept saying was they they were only valid for a year and that they could not accept the certificates, even after explaining our situation 3 times. When asked if I could speak to a manager, she simply said they were not available and that she already knew they would say no. I insisted to leave a message so the manager could call me back and she wouldn't even take my name or my number, she said she already had my number with the caller ID and when I asked her to read it back to me, she would not. Very doubtful I will receive a call back. So basically, the certificates I gifted my mom were only good to use for 3 months. If we knew COVID was going to hit, we would have used them sooner. The worst part is that we had an appointment to get our massages and then the business was shut down due to COVID. Whoever picks up the phone and manages the schedule is awful. I made an appointment for today, arrived 15 minutes beforehand, and was told I had no appointment. Did I just imagine the call I made earlier today? No, not a chance, because my call list on my cell phone even lists them as a number I called today and was on the line with for several minutes. My guess is that the lady who was taking down my info got super frustrated at the fact that she couldn't figure out how to write down my phone number and decided to just not book it at all even if she ended the called with "730 ok? 730 today. Come at 730." Based on reviews, this isn't a rare incident. Why don't they get someone better on the phones? UPDATE: I think they got a new person for the phones. Now a year later (Jan 2018) I call and the person actually understands me. When I came in for my appointment, she even knew who I was. "8pm for 2 people?" I really like this place. You can't really beat the price. It's not the BEST massage I've received but it is really good for just going after you've had a stressful work day and treating yourself to a little relaxation. I've gone here about 3 times. I treated my mom and myself for an hour long massage each for a total of $70 plus tips. You can't beat that! I get a different person each time I go. They usually don't speak English too well but not bad enough that we can't understand each other. The place didn't smell bad like that one review said, maybe they went on a bad day?
