This place is amazing. I've been to several different massage parlors and this is the best one by far. And I'm saying this as someone who went to school in the same building as a massage therapy school and got free massages on a weekly basis. I am a very tense person. My shoulders have knots upon knots and my calves are worse. The people here know what they're doing and aren't afraid to really go for hard pressure. I'm not sure which days are the $30 massages, but you can call in advance. My masseuse was Julie and I really enjoyed it. She massaged me from the scalp down to the bottom of me feet! Whole place smelled like rubbing alcohol. On the other hand, it was nice and clean lol. The rooms don't offer much in the way of privacy because the screens don't block the view, whoops! My massage was alright. I had an older Thai woman who only knew a handful of English terms. She was very nice and I'm sure did her best, but I didn't enjoy her attempts at massaging my shoulder bones and spine. NOTE: I did ask a customer who was leaving if he thought the place was good and he enthusiastically recommended it. Not sure how this place has amazing reviews because I had the worst massage of my life. I typically get massages once a month so I can definitely tell if the masseuse is experienced or just pounding your back like there is no tomorrow. I left with more cricks in my neck than initially started and felt like my back was just beaten and bruised from harsh rubbing from the masseuse's elbows. I've been to Thai massage places that ran around the same amount as this place but I never had as terrible or painful time at any of them until now. I'd rather pay someone $35 to not attack my body like they did. Incredible! My love and I just had a couples massage. These ladies are true massage therapist. We are leaving relaxed and less tensed and stressed. We have been to other places that made us feel like they were going through the motions to get to us tipping them. But not this place, they have us massages according to our body needs. Each time I go, I feel like I get a new masseuse, but none of them seem to fail me. That being said, each one has a different technique, but it gets the job done every time. I haven't gotten a Thai massage in years and after coming to Descanso, I don't know if I can go back to getting regular massages now. After a full hour of a nice massage from literally head to toe, I felt SUPER relaxed and rejuvenated! My friend and I would usually go get massages at a place in SGV area, but we decided to go somewhere different and closer to home. I found this place on Yelp and the reviews seemed pretty good so we decided to give it a try. We were each put in separate rooms and the massage lady stepped out to give me time to change out of my clothes (everything off except undies) and slip into the sheets where I needed to be faced down. When she came back, she asked me where I wanted her to focus on and I requested my neck & shoulders as those areas where I was most tense. She started from the top half (neck, shoulders, head), then middle (back), bottom (legs & feet), then middle & arms, and then finished with the top again. The massage lady I had was really good and very professional. I wish I asked her name. She was very thorough and the pressure strength was consistent the whole time. I was surprised when she got on top of the bed when she was working on my back and legs, but it was definitely a lot different and felt more better than a regular massage. Time had seemed to go slow in the beginning, but as I felt more and more relaxed, I was sad the hour was already up. I just came back from Descanso Thai Massage and couldn't be happier with the experience. Thanks to the yelpers who yelped before me and led me to this local gem. I've been enduring fairly intense back paid after falling off my mountain bike that's been building up for about a week. . Based on the one 3 star review I read I was concerned that they would only "rub oil on me" and asked her to put some pressure, and bring on the pressure she did. She says that was only medium-hard, I don't think I could take whatever her next level feels like. I explained to my masseuse where my pain was located and she spent the better part of the first 40 minutes working on the area. It proved to be exactly what I needed. My back pain isn't gone, but it most definitely is feeling much better than before. That said, the place is clean, the rooms private, the parking ample (mid-week/mid-day at least) and the staff friendly....and contrary to the lone 5 star givers experience, I did get a bottle of water at the end. I was very sick over the weekend and my body was beat up and exhausted. I booked a massage at Descanso Thai because it was highly rated and convenient and they could fit me I right away. I booked a one hour for $35 but when I asked for hot stones it was $10 more. So worth it! I've asked for hot stones before and gotten 5 minutes. I've been going to this place for the past 2-3 months. I've been to many massage places and this is by far the best! Can't beat the price. FYI, go on Wednesdays or Thursdays and an hour massage is only $30. It's definitely hard to find. I remember my first time I circled around twice cuz the opening to their tiny strip mall parking lot is very hard to miss. Parking is free and there are lots of spots. It is up the stairs to the left. You walk in and you get greeted. Every time I've gone there they always ask if I want to use the restroom. Which makes sense because when they push on you, you don't want to have that urge to pee! They lead you to where the magic happens. There are only 3-4 rooms, very spacious. They are separated by actual walls and curtains provide privacy. What is great is that these are massage tables with the hole for your face. I hate putting my head to the side cuz after a while it gets sore. So the hole is a huge plus for me. You strip down to your undies or to what God gave you, slide under the top blankie, and wait for your masseuse. I always Always ALWAYS request for Jean!! she is a sweet lady, asks you how you're doing and what problems you have. I tell her EXACTLY what I want and she does it cheerfully. She is real good! She does ask how I'm doing during the massage occasionally but I don't fear from speaking up. Be heard, if they don't ask how you're doing just say something. Simple. She was unbelievable and has healed me of all My pain. She asked me what spots I wanted her to focus on and thoroughly focused on those as well. Not only did she give me an incredible full Body massage but the best hand and scalp massage I have ever gotten with refreshing lotions. You also can't beat the $35 price. I had the older Asian lady, I didn't catch her name. Usually women tend to be softer in their approach but don't be fooled by her size! She may be small but that lady has magical hands! I prefer the stronger massages and she did a perfect job!!! She massaged me with her entire body...there may have been a point in time where she was laying on me. The spot itself is small and unassuming but it's clean and they were so friendly. It was quiet and private and she gave me a bottle of water. I swear I'll be coming back again. My masseuse's name was Pa, and it was even more refreshing to find out that she was actually from Thailand. The prices are very reasonable, the service was impeccable as well. They were able to change my scheduled appointment to an earlier time as soon as one became available. She did a great job and I'm definitely going back here again. Next time, for a 2-hour massage! My first visit was about a year ago when my boyfriend and I were looking to get a massage the day of. I found this place and it had great reviews so we decided to call and see if they would accommodate us. The lady on the phone was very nice and said she can take us both in about 45 mins. It's located in a small shopping area and parking is sometimes difficult depending on time of day. It's located upstairs towards the back. We walk in and were immediately greeted. They told us we can get massages together or separate which is a nice option to have. I don't remember my masseuse's name but man was she amazing! I got a deep tissue and they really put in work because I almost cried from how good and painful it was. Very poor massage. The table was not adjusted right and even after i asked about it my neck was over pressured and compressed too much. Very hard to relax while that is happening. I am not a fan of places that expect exorbitant tips on top of their hourly fee. This place was very bad about that.
