Wow! I will preface this by saying that I rarely write reviews, but I felt compelled to leave one here. A few months ago, my boyfriend told me that he wanted to propose but, because I had to wear the ring, I should get one I really wanted. And this began the tedious task of engagement ring shopping. My friend and I went to quite a few shops and were either pressured on me giving a date I'd want the ring or dismissed/not taken seriously. By the time we arrived at this store, I was discouraged. But then I met Paul! To say that Paul is a gentleman is an understatement. Paul showed us beautiful diamonds and took the time to explain the different factors that went into selecting a diamond. At no point during this process did he pressure me or did I feel that he wasn't taking me seriously because I was wearing my Phantom of the Opera sweatshirt. When I ultimately picked my diamond (which is a two step process-diamond then setting), he quoted and honored the quote which was approximately $1500 less than the other stores. Probably most importantly, he never called or harassed my fiancé to pick up or pay for the ring. This cannot be an easy time for men. My fiancé was very grateful that he was allowed to go at his own pace. Thank you Paul for making my special day extra special. I highly recommend DeScenza Diamonds Boston location. Ask for Joe MacIsaac. I am a regular working-class stiff who did a little bit of research before walking into DeScenza on Washington Street at DTX. I knew a tiny bit about diamonds, but Joe was able to fill in the gaps of my knowledge so I was able to make an informed purchase. She said yes, by the way. I knew about the cut she wanted, but I had no idea about the rest of the "4 C's". Joe is a GIA certified gemologist and took his time to talk me through the different characteristics of diamonds before presenting some products that suited both my needs and my budget. We laid them out before me and looked at them through a loop. He taught me how to use the loop and what to look for when inspecting a diamond. I always thought they were just shiny rocks, but Joe showed me how to look for inclusions and what to look for in a quality diamond. One of the things that I loved the most was that he was able to offer me a diamond that was GIA certified. That way I know where the stone was mined from and I can rest assured that it was an ethically sourced product. Beyond this, Joe had an extremely calm demeanor that put me at ease during what might most people consider to be a large purchase. The reason I am giving this company a 5-star review is because of how Joe was able to put me at ease during what I thought was going to be a stressful process. Everything was broken down Barney-style and I walked away with confidence. I've been engaged for about a month and even though my fiancé loves to show off her new ring, I can't help but look at it from across the room as it catches the light or feel for it when we embrace. I'm really not sure if she likes it more than I do, and that in of itself should be a testament for the quality service and quality product that DeScenza Diamonds has to offer. I came here because I decided I didn't like the setting I had picked out for the 0.7 karat diamond that belonged to my grandmother. Asha was the person who helped me on the phone, and who helped me pick out an item. She originally arranged to have an ArtCarved setting shipped from another store to the downtown location so I could take a look at it. It turned out not to be what I had envisioned, but she helped me pick out a really nice setting at a great price point. De Scenza is going to have the best halo and micro-pave free-standing settings in town. I actually think this place is going to be better than Long's in terms of its setting collection. My fiance and I went to De Scenza Diamonds to pick out wedding bands. The first visit, we picked out one for each of us. My engagement ring is white gold, but I loved a platinum eternity band in the store- the saleslady told us it would be fine to mix metals and that the engraving on the side of my white gold engagement ring would not be significantly affected by rubbing against platinum. She also told us that the white gold and platinum would appear the same color while next to each other on my finger. She quoted us a price for my fiance's ring (platinum) of about $700 and my ring of about $1200. The second visit, when we went to pick up the properly sized rings, we met with a different saleslady. She saw that having platinum and white gold mix together was a big mistake and that the platinum would wear down the white gold. She did allow us to return the purchased eternity band. My fiance's ring was also a problem- instead of the being around $700, it was around $1300- the first saleslady had grossly misquoted the price. I was upset that his quote was wrong and my ring couldn't be worn with my engagement band and started crying in the store. The saleslady kept making comments like "well you're not marrying him for the ring are you" without admitting that this was entirely the first saleslady's (and therefore the store's) mess. We were allowed to return my ring. We purchased my fiance's ring in a different metal. On the third visit to the store, when I went to pick up my fiance's ring, I had just picked up my (beautiful, perfect, custom made) wedding band from Karli Jeweler down the street and was picking up my fiance's ring from DeScenza's before heading home. I had my new wedding band on my finger for safekeeping and to better gaze at it lovingly. Saleslady (number 3) told me repeatedly that I shouldn't be wearing the ring since I wasn't married yet. She fetched a box with places for two rings and placed my fiance's in it, then nudged it closer to me a few times, repeatedly saying that I shouldn't wear my ring yet because it wasn't right and I wasn't married. She wasn't joking or being playful or friendly, she was being serious and rude. I eventually closed the ring box myself, put it in my purse, and left. Summary: Saleslady 1- nice, but had false knowledge Saleslady 2- knowledgeable but inconsiderate and lacking in customer service. Saleslady 3- rude, obtrusive I would neither make another purchase nor recommend Descenza Diamonds. read more

Wish I could give this place zero stars! My fiance and I stopped by this location of DeScenza after having a stellar experience at the location in Peabody. We had a certain type of wedding band in mind we had seen at the other location and also wanted to compare it to anything else in their inventory. When we walked in, we were looked up and down by one saleswoman, not even greeted by one salesman, and stood by the diamond counters for over 10 minutes until one lady finally paged for somebody to come assist us. Strange that she couldn't help us, but nobody even came over to acknowledge they had seen us and would send somebody to assist us. Their selection of diamond wedding bands was nowhere near as expansive as the collection at their Peabody store. The one guy who finally came over to help us didn't have any idea about the rings we were talking about and sent over a colleague who was the only saving grace of the store. She was a taller, attractive blonde woman with an accent and she was the closest we ever got to pleasant customer service. We visited 5 jewelry stores on Washington Street this morning and DeScenza was the worse of them all! We will not return to purchase our wedding jewelry. read more

I am happy to report I had a very good experience at DeScenza Diamonds today. DeScenza had been recommended to me by a friend whose brother had a positive experience picking out wedding jewelry. I had DeScenza do a special order for me. The original sales person I dealt with over the phone, Brett, from the Hingham location, was extremely polite and professional. He understood my needs and provided me with the information I was looking for. He informed me that the necklace I had ordered would be ready in approximately 2 weeks for pickup at the Boston store. He was right on the money as the necklace arrived in 13 days. I was a little nervous going to the Downtown Crossing location, fearing that the store would be overrun with Valentine's Day shoppers. I was pleasantly surprised to find only a few other customers in the store. There were plenty of employees at each counter who seemed more than willing to help customers. After looking around the store for a few minutes I was politely directed to Customer Service to pick up my order. The girl who helped me was very friendly. When I mentioned during the checkout process I was interested in some diamond earrings she filled me in on DeScenza's diamond earring program where you can start small and trade your diamonds in for bigger stones over time. I was happy to find that the necklace I ordered was cheaper than the cost I was initially quoted. I will definitely be going back soon for my jewelry needs! read more

Well, I bought my diamond in 1992 and was concerned about color. I was told my ring was a "good" K. I was young and in love, well, It's a K. Years later, being never fully happy with the color, I wanted to upgrade. Their website claims, "Unlike many purchases, your Descenza diamond will hold its' value". Not so much. I was told (in Framingham), that I can't upgrade because my pear shape was no longer in demand. So basically, I'm out of luck. read more

In short: Friendly while on site, completely unresponsive off (and incompetent at picking up the threads). My fiance got my engagement ring here. He loved the experience of working with Tyler (all the gemologists are part of the family business, it seems, which is good in one way...), and though he ended up spending way more than he had planned, he loved the ring and so did I. Two stars. Then: I lost my ring. Like, three months after getting engaged. Heartbroken? Yes. But it was insured, and we took a collective deep breath and went about the process of replacing it. When we went in to get the ball rolling, I received very little sympathy mixed liberally with criticism. I was told the ring had been badly sized (says the business that sized it!), and that our initial appraisal had been wrong (says the business that did the appraisal!). After we left? Phone calls: unreturned. Questions: incorrectly answered. Ball: dropped. On our next on-site visit, I specifically stated the communications breakdown and asked how I could help: calling every week? Emailing? I was assured that wouldn't happen in the future and was told quite firmly that they would reach out to me. Radio silence ensued. After several weeks, I sent a summary of the situation to their corporate address. No response. We were lucky enough to get a direct insurance reimbursement to spend anywhere, rather than having it go right to the jeweler (shout out for Traveler's Insurance: thank you for making that experience as painless as possible). The sums of money we're discussing here are not insignificant--house downpayment-sized in total. Why De Scenza could not be bothered to help us is unclear. We felt like second-class citizens. We were in a price range that should have produced better service, yet even if all we could afford was a $500 ring, their job--and their purported mission--is to make each and every customer feel valued. Utter failure of service. We were looking to build a lifelong relationship with a quality jeweler. We have taken that goal and our business elsewhere (Gann, in the same building, has been just wonderful so far). De Scenza made a very painful time for me much worse. read more

I give everyone the benefit of the doubt, I went there a year ago and I walked to to the counter looking at their Chamilia collection, and I waited and waited and waited for someone to come over or at least acknowledge me that I was there, Well no one came and finally I asked what does one have to do to get service, and they were 'oh you need help' but I told them I was all set. I went again a few days ago figuring maybe they had an off day we all do; and the same thing happened to me I had to ask for help after waiting at the counter for quite some time. they need to train their staff on customer service and I will defiantly will not be going back ever again read more

I'd consider myself a very price-conscious and internet-savy shopper, so I didn't expect to get what I wanted at the price I wanted at a brick-and-mortar jewelry store. I had saved a lot of money on a diamond by ordering my fiance's engagement ring online, and was prepared to go the same route for wedding bands. However, after searching online for a celtic knot design wedding band in 14k gold for myself, I couldn't quite find what I was looking for in terms of style (relatively flat - I play piano so I didn't want a bulky ring getting in the way), and the prices weren't that great either since all the rings that looked halfway decent were only available through specialty dealers. I went into a couple of other stores before I popped into Descenza's on the recommendation of a couple of family members (older and less internet-shopping savy family members, mind you), not expecting a great selection or great prices, but lo and behold, Descenza's ended up having the perfect low-profile celtic ring in 14k white gold! After trying it on, I didn't buy it immediately but went online to see if I could find it and compare the prices. I was only able to find it on one site and for significantly more money. Descenza's was able to quote me a price that was about 35% below their retail price marked (this retail price being similar to the online price had seen), and said retail price was also a couple hundred dollars lower than a previously marked retail price to begin with, which was dated from before the recent drop in gold prices. There was some confusion about what kind of mark-down I was going to get from going into Descenza's on Black Friday, but apparently the discount was good, whether it be from the holiday or from their normal every day discount :) So needless to say, I was very happy with that and placed my order. I picked up my ring today and tried it on for size, as I had been concerned about this because as previously stated, I am a pianist and need it to fit comfortably if I'm to wear it while playing the piano. Also, having an engraved design, it can't be resized so I needed to get it right from the get-go. The size I ordered was at least a half -size lower than the rings I had tried that seemed to fit fine, but the sales women were great about ensuring that my finger was measured correctly using the brand-specific sizer, so it turned out to be a good call - the ring fit fine. They also told me I could try it on again when the weather was warmer (in case my hands swell a lot) and I could order a different size if necessary before my wedding. As you can see, this was a relatively painless and pleasant experience at Descenza's, as they were able to offer me a hard-to-find product at a great price. Also, the sales people were all very friendly and helpful. I'm not good with names, but there was one guy that helped me out on the first visit (possibly the manager?) and two women on the follow up visits (both blonde) - I'd recommend working with any of them. Last year in November my now husband and I went to look at engagement rings, he wanted to know what styles I liked. I fell in love with a ring and we went back to look at diamonds. I didn't know then but this would be my ring. Everyone was super helpful, we were helped right when we got in there, and the diamond buyer (forgot his name), was extremely helpful. I get complemented on the ring everyday, even by men! We went back after the engagement to look at bands, but it was such a unique ring that it was hard to match, we had to order a custom one. They were again very helpful, but we ended up going to a cheaper jewelry store to get it custom made. Wish we hadn't because we had problems with them and were almost bandless a couple days before the wedding. De Scenza is truly amazing! I brought them back to them 4 years in a row to not only fix but help me solve the issue creating the necessary repairs. They were rude and talked to me like I was stupid. Big name/big prices=over rated/overpriced! This is a small family owned chain (4 stores) that is pretty much like all the other jewelry chain stores out there. My fiance and I are searching for that perfect engagement ring and we just did not feel it here. Of course we got the same sales pitch you get every where in the big names in the jewelers building. "You won't find a better quality diamonds any where, we have the best prices, best quality etc. Little did they know I used to work at the NYDE (New York Diamond Exchange). There were several jewelers just not as flashy at 387 and 333 Washington St that had the same quality for a lot less and were willing to work with us on a one to one basis customizing a ring to her specs. After getting some prices we went back for a second look and some further discussion, it was apparent you can get a better deal for the same quality, better service elsewhere at 387 and 333 Washington St. We found what we wanted at another jeweler at 333 but decided to go to NYC next weekend where I am sure I can do better than here in Boston. read more

We had a problem with our insurance company in regard to a diamond pendant that had been lost, and whose size had been mistyped by the company when they wrote the policy. The staff at Descenza were incredibly helpful even though they knew that we were not planning to buy a replacement, and worked with the insurance adjuster to get us a fair price for our lost item.They were genuinely caring. read more

good luck getting someone to help you with watch repair service. Just waited 15 minutes before giving up and leaving. The entire time the sole person who does watch repair, who knew he had another customer waiting, bantered with a couple who had finished their transaction. Good for them I guess. WasI treated so poorly because I am female and had no man in tow? Other staff people asked why I was waiting and let the watch person know. Its hard to find a jeweler who is authorized for Baume and Mercier repairs, but after that cold shoulder, worth the effort to go elsewhere. read more

After a not-so-good experience at the Hingham location, I went to the Boston location looking for engagement rings, knowing that Descenza is one of the best jewelers in the city. Anyway, I was immediately taken care of by Amanda and showed her what I was looking for that I found off the Descenza website. She showed me exactly what I found and another very similar (but better) ring. I explained to her I have a family diamond that I'd like to use and she was more than happy to take a look at it; telling me all the interesting things about the diamond, etc. The ring I chose is currently being specifically made for the actual diamond but the whole experience was very pleasant and it made the process so much better. read more

I had shopped around quite a bit, but did want to buy in Boston because he lives there. Dominick was excellent to work with, and he gave me an excellent price (much better than the competitor on Newbury Street). Within 10 minutes, I was transferred to different departments 4 times and then hung up on. I have dealt with John over the past several years, dating back to the 1990's. John has always given me a great deal and unmatched customer service. I have bought wedding rings, tennis bracelet, earings, watches, etc. with great satisfaction. I recently bought my wife a ring (an upgrade from a previous one) that John allowed me to take home for Christmas without giving him the old one even though he had credited me the old ring on the invoice and therefore did not charge me. With the Holidays being hectic, John is still waiting patiently for me to come in to return the old ring and get the new ring sized. Would never shop anywhere else. read more

I returned the ring and they designed a new one for me. It came out beautiful. Their customer service is second to none. I have mixed feelings about Descenza's..out first experience with them was 40 years ago when my Husband purchased my engagement ring from them..it was an excellent experience and made us a loyal client for many many years..jump forward 40 years..over the holidays I noticed that they certainly didn't appear to have as much high end inventory as years ago..lots of semi precious, sterling etc..not a lot to select from in store. Last week I was looking to upgrade my wedding band for our 40th anniversary..found exactly what I was looking for at another 'high end jeweler'..in an attempt to be a loyal client I took a picture and sent that along with exact specs (3ct diamonds, etc)..first off Descenza didn't have anything in Stock and would have to order..that would be fine if all else was equal..but for a comprobable ring with lessor quality diamonds they quoted me a much higher price than the other High End jeweler and didn't seem to want to budge..(remember we've been doing business with them over a 40 year time span)..I have the impression that perhaps they no longer feel it's necessary to take care of their long time clients.. read more

Do not go here (peabody). I went to buy a watch box and while I was there asked them to clean my wedding band (which was purchased there). It took a while for them to return it to me and immediately after getting it back I noticed it looked different. Upon closer inspection, you could see indentations in the band where my *real* diamonds were prior to having them clean it. They denied any wrong doing, of course, but any woman who has worn her ring every day for the last 15 years knows her ring!!! My own husband and friends could notice the difference. They were very rude. I had to get a local detective involved who was completely on my side. I wouldn't trust any of them ever; they are not customer oriented and very shady. read more

I got my engagement ring and wedding band at De Scenza in Framingham and had a great experience. Five years later the diamond setting need to be fixed. It was sharp and was scraping my kids when I changed them. I brought it to the De Scenza in Hingham. I explained and showed them what was wrong. They sent it out to be fixed and called me when it was ready. I went to pick it up and they didn't fix the problem. I explained and showed them how sharp the ring was again. They sent it out again. When I went to pick it up again, it still was a little sharp and they said that was the best they could do. I left unhappy. I later brought it to Toodies in Quincy and explained to them. They said they could fix it and they did so in 3 days! My ring is platinum and they discovered that whoever tried to fix it the first time used white gold. So De Scenza tried to pull a fast one on me. Toodies also charged me less money and my ring is beautiful again. read more

I just bought a pair of rose gold diamond hoop earrings from DeScenza and I was disappointed when I went to pick them up. I browsed on their web catalog and the way it looks on the website is grossly unlike in reality. It's my fault I admit that I should have looked at them in person before purchasing them but with a highly reputable jewelry company I naively placed my trust in them. I feel deceived because on the website it is clearly bigger and more brilliant than in person. I know understand why they had the earrings marked down. I'm strongly considering to return them. At least their return policy is good in which you can get a full refund in the first 10 days. I must say that I have bought many pieces of Swarowski jewelry and before purchasing them I would go to the store and I was always pleased with what I saw and the quality. Their advertising on their website is accurate compared to DeScenza. read more
