My experience with them reminds me of the movie Pretty Woman. I almost want to go back and tell them "Big Mistake!". So I went to the store in my sweats and hoodies, looking like a person who can't afford to buy an expensive watch. Nobody greeted me, nobody literally paid attention. I was in the display area for a couple of minutes and have to call somebody's attention that I needed help. We'll somebody came and did not show much enthusiasm to actually help me. Wow, these folks take good care of their elderly customers! I arrived early for my appointment, and they completed the appraisal of my items in much less time than expected. As a result, I was done almost an hour before my taxi would arrive. The staff asked me whether I had a ride. When I told them about my taxi's expected arrival, they invited me to sit in their lounge till then. Then, shortly before the expected arrival, I went to the front entrance to watch out the window. And the staff brought a chair for me to sit in while waiting! Excellent service! Incidentally, the appraisal consisted of a streak test and a chemical test, which showed that my items had very little value. I have been a customer of Longs for a very long time and have never had an issue. Sadly that is not the case with my most recent purchase. I bought a very expensive estate piece and lost a stone from the hallo setting within 2 months with regular wear. Longs repaired the piece for free and I assumed that they would have fixed any flaw in the setting and it would not happen again. 4 months later the same thing happened again. They agreed to repair the piece again AND this time to fix the flaw in the design of the setting but want me to pay for half of the repair. This is NOT the what I would expect from a company with Longs reputation. Sales and front end customer service was wonderful but management has made a short term decision and now lost a long time customer. read more

Two years ago I went to their previous location at the South Shore Plaza in Braintree to sell a bracelet I had inherited, to pay for some of my college semester. It was 14k gold with opal It was far too large for my wrist so I thought I should sell it. looking back I was bamboozled and taken advantage of. I accepted the ridiculous offer of $175 and regret it deeply. Regardless of my lack of knowledge on my jewelry (shame on me) I was a young girl who was naive at the time and was tricked into a pathetic offer. I understand they need to make a profit but I was simply robbed. The customer service is unprofessional and cold. They are just looking to make a dime any way they can. Dishonest and slimy are two words that come to mind when family and friends (looking for engagement rings, gifts, etc) ask about Longs. I have dealt with many great jewelers in downtown Boston since then for many purchases and sales, who are honest and make a profit without completely screwing someone. The jewelers I do business with today would tell me to keep something and to not even bother if they couldn't offer me a reasonable price. A grown man with many years in the jewlry business who I assume has children and even grandchildren should perhaps have a heart and say to a young woman what he thinks is the smart decision instead of really screwing someone who did not have knowledge on jewelry at the time. "Long" wait Jewelers is more like it. Do NOT buy a Rolex watch here... This store has no idea what excellent customer really service is. I would never go back! From the bottom of my heart skip Long's and go straight to downtown Boston for what you need. I convinced myself that instead of going to Boston, I'd go to Long's because well, they're a big fish in the pond, so you probably can't go wrong. I booked an appointment and went in here a few weeks ago with a lab diamond I purchased online, I was just looking to have it placed in a setting. I was working with a woman who, granted, seemed tough and abrasive, which I don't always mind; we started discussing potential settings and I felt slightly judged by her that I couldnt afford side stones of the hypothetical setting we were thinking of, and mind you, other reviews will tell you how they feel about lab grown diamonds. I asked her what mine was worth, and she said "nothing". Yeah, we get it, it's a lab made diamond, shoot me. We settled on a thin band that had 4 diamonds set into it, couldnt have been more than .15 - .20 CT's a piece. We spoke about certain prongs that would have to be made for the type of diamond I brought in. They quoted me around $2.3k to make it, with a 6 week production time. What really bothered me wasn't that I didn't 100% love all the settings they had to offer, but when we moved from the work station to the display case, someone was sat down where we were just working, where we weren't finished. Good thing we took the stone with us? The customer asked if someone was sitting there, to which she replied "yes", to which her coworker snarked "I need to sit there, I need to appraise his watch" to which she replied "there's no where else you can do that?" to which he replied a simple "nope". Like other reviews have mentioned, I'm heavily tattooed and wore sweatpants (God forbid I have a comfortable day off). I felt judged and insignificant because of this but at this point, I expect it in my day to day life, so it's whatever. I left, drove into Boston, and within 1 minute of speaking was shown an example of the exact setting and prongs i'd need for my stone, with bands I actually really loved. Custom made within 2 weeks, and for less than what Long's was going to charge me for something I didn't 100% love. Moral of the story is always go with your gut. read more

My fiancé and I went into the Boston location to pick out wedding bands and it was such a horrible experience. I expressed wanting a solid gold band as this is what I had always envisioned. The saleswoman brought out many options with diamond bands and 1 single solid gold option. I tried on the diamond band and did like it, but I liked the gold option more. The saleswoman immediately called it "boring" and mentioned the 20% wedding sale. She continued to push the diamond band and the sale after I repeatedly told her no. Her whole demeanor towards us changed.. as we were checking out (we purchased my fiancés band as well) she packaged up my ring (didn't polish or clean it) and handed me the bag saying "here is your plain gold band". Yes, they have beautiful bling, but their friendly staff really goes out of their way to be hospitable and helpful. I don't know which Long's store this applies to, as my experience was totally done over the Internet. Bu I'm sure all the stores have the same policies. I decided about 1 1/2 years ago that what was really missing in my life was a Ruby ring. I searched everywhere for one, including several jewelry stores in lower Fairfield County, Connecticut, where I live. I found nothing I liked, until I received an email from Long's, showing a beautiful ring with a ruby, surrounded by diamonds. I immediately ordered it, using my credit card. The ring was really beautiful, even nicer than the photo. But it just wasn't right for me. It didn't look good on my hand. So I contacted Long's and asked about returning it. They emailed me an address label and told me to take the ring to a Fed Ex store. I did, and they credited my card for the full total amount. They didn't even charge for the shipping fee. I really wish they had a store closer to my house. These days, when everyone seems to nickel-and-dime you to death, it's really a pleasure to deal with such a "classy" outfit. I am still in the buying/shopper's due diligence phase and haven't purchased anything so I can't speak to that, but I had a great experience with Luke who was helping me and Ryan who was training I believe. It was my first time here. I have driven by a thousand times and wanted to check it out. I was looking for 2 difference pieces for my fiance. I did not plan the visit and looked wildly underdressed for the public let alone a high-end jeweler and wondered if the quality of service I would receive would be based on my casual attire. That was not the case. I felt well taken care of from my first impression of the store to the last. Our interaction felt conversational and not transactional. I could tell Luke was skilled in the art of the conversation to identify what people are looking for. I saw a demonstration of his knowledge as well as a high level of active listening. My boyfriend and I are shopping for engagement rings. Beginning stages - seeing what I like, browsing place to place. Important to know my boyfriend is Latino and heavily tattooed and we often catch him being profiled in certain neighborhoods/establishments. I'm big on lab diamonds - personal preference - but he's impartial and could go either way. We stepped into Long's. The doorman was such a gentleman - warm and engaging. The woman who met us? The opposite. She looked at my boyfriend in disgust right off the rip. She curtly asked him "what are you looking for." It was barely a question, the way she delivered it. He explains we're shopping around, I like solitaire oval shapes-- she starts cutting him off again. She snarks ":.. okay, again- what are you looking for." He says D grade, VDS1- she laughs in his face and says "you're looking at a $15,000 diamond." Mind you- my boyfriend's job brings home 3x more income than this lady schilling jewelry ... but I digress -- I chime in that I'm into lab grown anyway. Before he can get a word out, she goes on this miserable tangent. Literally, the disgust in her voice was kind of appalling. You'd never in a million years think this woman works in customer service. She kept speaking down to us, repeating how lab diamonds are worthless and that Long's would NEVER "bring that in here." Scoffing, laughing. Going on about how much electricity it takes to create lab diamonds. On, and on, and on, and on. Then she looks at ME (white female) and says "when you go to turn your lab diamond in, you'll get nothing for it. It's worth nothing." Turns back to my boyfriend - "they're great for SOME people. But not people that come here." We left graciously - the door man (absolute sweetheart, so genuine) goes, "that was fast..." I explain that I'm more of a lab girl anyway so it's not for us. He was SO sweet. He goes "hey, I like lab grown. They're pretty. They look great. Just don't spend too much on them, you know, because they don't hold their worth!" Had the woman who 'helped' us spoken to us with the same human decency and respect, she might have been able to convince my boyfriend to spend $15k on a stupid diamond. Instead, she chose discrimination and spite based on appearance. I'm writing this review 1 week after it happened - it was Saturday afternoon around 3pm. We left the parking lot roaring in laugher at how horrible the whole ordeal was, and I didn't want it to spoil such a special day for us- so I saved the yelp review for another day, where I could describe the situation objectively and without emotion attached to it. That woman is a horrible representation of the company she works for. My mom got her wedding band at Long's and couldn't even believe her ears when I told her what happened. Where do I begin? My fiancé recently came back from a year long deployment with the US Army and wanted to go wedding band shopping with me. I called ahead to ensure they had the band I wanted to try on & was told they did & the size it was. We walked in shortly after & I mentioned to an employee what we were looking for but noticed it was busy so we'd wait. We were self-aware of how close it was from the call to when I walked in so didn't mind waiting. After being asked when i called, a female employee scolded us because of how busy they were & clearly didn't have the time to grab it yet. No ounce of hospitality or customer service. We never assumed the ring was put aside, again we were very open to walking around & working with someone when they had the time. What a great first impression, right? Welll...it doesn't stop there. After being barked at, we were then helped by an employee named Bill who went to a computer to find which ring I wanted to try on. During that time, we overheard a Longs employee talking negatively about the customer that just left the building. Classy. The only reason I give this place a 3 star review is because of Bill and he deserves 5. He was the one who greeted us, looked up which ring I wanted to try on, checked my diamond in the setting, let me try on different styles, and then took the time to give us guidance. He had no idea how special this visit was to us but I appreciate the kindness and patience he had. He made our first experience wedding band shopping an enjoyable one & I will only go back to Longs if I knew we'd work with him. We learned my dream ring will have to be custom made, something we'd love to do (& can certainly afford) but only if Bill was involved. If he wasn't there yesterday, I would've given this place a 1 star review. Went in on a Saturday to replace a battery on my TAG watch. Busy but lots of staff and there was no customers at the service counter but 4 employees standing there. The person at the front greeted me in a friendly manner and told me to go to the counter and they could help me. I proceeded to the counter and then stood there, with no acknowledgment by the staff, for a couple minutes while they chatted and clicked on a computer. Four of them. If they would have acknowledged me and said "just a moment" or something of the like then no big deal. Nothing... so I just walked out. Folks at the front asked me what's wrong but it was obvious they have/had other priorities. Too nice of a place and WAY too high of prices to not have at least an acknowledgment with the folks who were going to do the actual work. I didn't feel comfortable leaving my watch in their care for a battery swap so I additionally do not feel comfortable making any large purchases from them for either myself or my wife. read more

Yesterday i worked with Dave and I had an interaction what went beyond my expectations. I had been on the hunt for a new watch for some time but was not sure exactly what I wanted. I've done business with Long's sporadically over the last 40+ years. Recently had a Rolex watch serviced. I also dropped off an Omega Seamaster back in April and asked to have the battery and a broken spring bar replaced. The Omega was written up and sent in for service. After many months I called to inquire and was told that the watch was sent off to Omega for repair. What, for a battery and a spring bar? A week later I was called and informed that the estimate to "completely refurbish" the watch was $550. I asked for a detailed breakdown of the estimate and was told that "the watch should be overhauled because it might need other services." Well, that's like telling me i should overhaul the engine in my car when it just needs a new battery. The person I spoke with was fairly arrogant and obviously miffed that I would question their service recommendation. Either that or they couldn't specifically answer my questions. I was pretty disappointed in the response and requested the watch back. I'll seek service for it elsewhere. Still waiting on the call to pick it up.............. read more

This is an awesome place for two types of people- 1) those who have an unlimited supply of money, and 2) those who would like to learn about diamonds. At the start I got the quintessential sales spiel from Judd including how online retailers like James Allen and Blue Nile are unreliable and how there wouldn't be a difference of price, overhead, etc between the online and brick & mortar business models. A blatant show of poor logic and reasoning but he seemed like a decent enough guy. Judd did provide an immense amount of information that I couldn't find from my attempts at self-learning Diamonds 101 via Google. For prospective engagement ring shoppers: Check out the diamonds, ask a ton of questions. Then grill the sales team on detailed specs and exact prices. These are both VERY important. Differentiate the facts from the sales jargon, which might require already having basic diamond knowledge (and of course, some critical thinking). Then make your purchase from a major online retailer. It worked for me. Some online retailers have hassle-free 30 day return policies, free shipping, and much larger inventories than Long's. And you could save 10-15%. Some day I hope to educate Judd and Co. at Long's on the differences between the diamond I purchased online and the lesser diamonds offered for sale in their store. The attributes of the diamond I purchased are unrivaled by Long's Burlington, especially given the uncommon shape of the stone (table, depth, width, etc.) I would provide more grandiose claims on the diamond but I want the Yelp audience to know I am being completely honest with my assessment. FYI- The "proclaimed independent" appraisal service located inside Long's solely evaluates cut based on a 4-tiered spectrum and I do not believe it is capable of providing justice to any beautiful stone read more

Bought a vintage engagement ring $1400 and ended up not proposing and they said they'll take it back for $500. They values the ring at $1600 when I bought it but they would only pay $500 for it. Pretty dishonest and the lack of integrity is unprecedented. UPDATE: the rep from Long's Jewelers called me after reaching out to tell me that this offer was more than fair (they offered 40% of the ring value). and they funny thing is that the sales rep told me that I'm getting a great deal when I was buying the ring the stone itself worth more than that. don't buy from people like that read more

Really enjoyed working with the staff at Long's Burlington. After the wedding band process I felt like I had a part time job there haha because I had popped in so many times due to the custom design of my ring. I had brought in a picture of a ring that I had admired forever and they built the ring out almost exactly. I worked with Danny in CAD and he was great, spot on with what my vision was. I also worked with Kirk who always greeted me with a smiling face. Even the security guard got to know me and always offered me a seat and a water right away. A great team over here, very friendly and helpful. I loved my ring though it was at the higher end of the budget and we got my husband's ring here are well which was made in Switzerland with a rose-gold band and black carbon fiber that runs in the middle of it, both exquisite. Where do I begin? The $3,500 jewelry my boyfriend bought at Long's for me is by a maker they no longer support. I brought it in for a cleaning because the necklace was very discolored. When I went to pick it up, it was the same and no better than when I had left it. Whoever worked on it left no message about what measures had been taken to restore it. Furthermore, the earrings were somehow manhandled. One of them just bobs at the base of my earlobe totally loose. They were absolutely FINE when I put them in. I would NEVER trust these people with anything ever again. If you buy something there, they might just tell you a few years later that they don't support the brand you bought anymore. Totally untrustworthy!! I am a big jewelry person and will make sure my current boyfriend does not buy me anything there ever. My fiancé, Keith and I were in Long's for the beginning of their Wedding Band Weekend event late Friday evening. Everyone we talked to was very friendly. We weren't sure if we would be buying, so we walked around a bit trying to figure out what we liked. That's when Bill Doulin approached us and offered his assistance. Right from the start he made us feel comfortable. He did not pressure us to buy anything, but rather took his time to help us figure out exactly what we wanted within our budget. He walked around the store with us and was extremely knowledgeable about the bands - he taught us a lot!! He was also so willing to answer any questions we had, and offered great advice on picking the right bands. We felt like he truly cared about what we wanted, and he ended up helping us find our wedding bands! We loved working with him and HIGHLY RECOMMEND asking for him at Long's. Came here for their wedding brand event back in March. I really wish I remember the name of the woman whom I've worked with.. she was a delightful person. I've had a bad encounter with the Long's security guy at the Braintree location (see my previous post). But my experience at this location was great. My sales lady worked hard and was patience with me but I'm not too picky either. I felt like I knew right away what I wanted and on 2nd try, that was the ring that I wanted but it happened so quickly. She suggested looking at other styles to make sure it's the one I want but she was never forceful and respect that I had that in mind and kept moving toward. I tried on a few more but we came back to the original one. I got a band from their Memoire collection. We moved forward and picked a band for my fiancé too. Everything worked out fine. I think because of the event, they gave us a Long's tote bag upon checking out. Can't wait to pick up our bands beginning of May! Hopefully it will be ready as promised. read more

Went to the wedding band weekend with my fiancé. I was expecting to be overwhelmed with options and pushy salespeople. This was nothing like that. We were greeted at the door. Everyone was super friendly and laidback. Our sales lady, Shelly, was awesome, she was super patient with my indecisive fiancé and had great insight. Definitely worth the trip.
