So freaking good. I would like to say I have a photo of the most excellent chorizo burrito but... it was gone before I could take a photo lol. Beautifully soft and chewy tortilla that holds up next to the made to order eggs and chorizo and we added potatoes. Would have grabbed a second to go (someone else there finished and went back for seconds) but was on the move today. Will prioritize better next time. And can't wait. Sounds like indoor seating coming soon. read more

Based on Yelp reviews, I decided to try the Desert Cave breakfast burritos. Yelpers did not disappoint and the Desert Cave nailed it. It's a walk up place and food is to go only. The service was fantastic, very pleasant, and friendly. Even the cook acknowledged me. I ordered the bacon breakfast burrito. The burrito was large and packed with bacon. It was very flavorful and was one of the best that I have ever had. The price was very fair and I can't wait to return and try the other menu selections. read more

We had a taco party with several friends. Some ladies brought a cowboy caviar, guacamole & chocolate-flan. We got various types of tacos here; shredded pork, carnitas, & shredded chicken. While we looked at the menu posted outside the front door of the restaurant, the cashier opened a window on the side and asked if we wanted to come in. As soon as we entered, everyone working here greeted us (cashier, cooks, everyone). It being our first time here, the cashier told us which dishes were customer favorites. I got the carne asada burrito (which came with guacamole and pico in the burrito), and my friend got the bacon breakfast burrito (which came with egg and cheese in the burrito, and she added potatoes for an extra $0.50). The food came out super fast. The carne asada itself was very bland and tough, and I wish the burrito had less meat and more guacamole and pico. My friend said her burrito was one of the best she's ever had. The tortillas were hot and soft, and I really wish I liked my burrito more than I did. The green hot sauce was delicious, and the cashier gave us three other hot sauces to try (mild, hot, and habanero). He also gave us two 16.9 fl oz water bottles for free. I would give the service here ten stars if I could. I'll come back based on that alone. The parking is ample and close to the entrance. The bathrooms are clean. The seating area inside is nothing fancy, but it's well kept and a quiet place to enjoy your meal. They accept Apple Pay and credit cards for an additional $0.50 charge, so bring cash if you can. read more

Great spot to stop by for a quick lunch! My husband had a steak burrito and I had a chimichanga. It was delicious. Chips and salsa were good (salsa was spicy). Don't forget to ask for the pickled carrots! This is real Mexican food! The people there are amazing and so kind and you really felt the care put into this family owned business. We found this place on the way out to a few different restaurants we frequent. It may look small and unassuming but the food is amazing. The two gentlemen running the place or working there are extremely friendly and even stayed open few minutes late for me to pick up my burritos. Best breakfast burritos in the Cave Creek area. They are friendly and service is quick. We have tried the burritos with ham, bacon and chorizo and all were great. Level up by adding potatoes for $0.50 more. They recently added tables outside to expand seating, otherwise take away is the way to go. Don't forget to order some pickled carrots and jalapenos. read more

Moved from California, heard the nightmare of trying to find an authentic place. Well, as far as the basics I think we found it. Got a bunch of carne asada street tacos with green and red salsa and some guacamole and chips. They gave us some marinated carrots & jalapeños. All was excellent. Service was basic but good and friendly. Ambiance was more of a to go place although there is a few outdoor tables. Will return. read more

Being a transplanted Illinois gringo, I have never really been a fan of breakfast burritos. For me, a Denny's Grand Slam or similar is usually the way to go. However, I rode past Desert Cave over the weekend and saw a Grand Opening sign. I hadn't really noticed the restaurant until fairly recently. I read the positive reviews on Yelp and decided to give the place a try for breakfast. My wife and I are big fans of bacon, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwiches, so I ordered a Bacon Breakfast Burrito (bacon, egg, cheese). The young woman at the counter and the gentleman at the grill were extremely friendly. The wait was pretty short for a made-to-order item. The burrito: Big, hot, tasty, and filled with lots of bacon and eggs. My wife and I split the burrito and were satisfied. The salsa we got was supposed to be the red salsa, but I think we were given the hot salsa instead. It was pretty hot. Verdict: Excellent experience. Outstanding service and a great breakfast burrito. On my next stop in, I will likely try the Carne Asada Lunch Burrito or the Cheese Enchiladas Plate. Note: The restaurant has a new menu that now includes some additional items that were requested by customers. This place is certainly worth a visit if you have never been here. Adios! read more

Small hidden place. Menu is limited. We had their breakfast chorizo burritos. It was HUGE! Filled with delicious eggs, chorizo, cheese, added potatoes too! I only ate half and saving the rest for later. They offer two types of home made sauce on the side to accompany my burrito. Both were pretty good. The staff were super friendly. This is a very small place. No tables inside. They do offer one big picnic table outside in the shade plus a few random folding chairs. Wish they offered other Mexican meats like carnitas or chile verde. As for right now, it's only carne asada, chicken, or chorizo. Next time, we'll try their lunch burritos. Amazing little hole-in-the-wall spot in Cave Creek! They are definitely a new kid on the block, but I hope others stop in for a bite because this spot was so good. My partner and I each got a burrito and split them (they halved them for us otherwise we would have made a mess lol). Grilled chicken with guac, and the California burrito - both amazing. I recommend the green salsa for the grilled chicken and guac it was SO FRESH. The red salsa was perfect with the carne asada and cheesey potatoes in the California burrito. We also got the pickled carrots and jalapeños were complimented both burritos nicely. Chef and teller were both super nice to talk to and happy we stopped in. Great food and great service. Let's you call ahead to place your order so you aren't waiting at the restaurant. No tables inside and only have seats to wait but it doesn't take too long for them to make the food. The sausage breakfast burrito is my favorite and their sauces are good but extremely spicy. Our first time here and everything was delicious. This is a little hole in the wall place. It's takeout but they do have a little picnic table to sit at. They don't have a liquor license but they do have soft drinks. My husband is vegetarian and they quickly managed to make him a giant vegetarian burrito. read more

My blue burger was great. My son enjoyed his breakfast bowl. My sister's BLT was short on bacon. My other sister ordered a seasonal fruit bowl... the strawberries were very bitter. I ordered the new seasonal tea; it was great. I wish our server would have had better follow up on our beverages. There are too many other restaurants in Cave Creek to settle for mediocre service and food.

My son has a severe gluten allergy and we came here as I saw they had gluten free pancakes. I informed the waitress of my son's allergy when we placed our order, and confirmed that his pancakes were gluten free when they were brought to our table. Being a normal 5 year old who loves pancakes, my baby enjoyed his breakfast... only to begin coughing intensely and then breaking out into severe hives (and panicking) shortly thereafter. By God's grace, we had his epi Pen nearby. We still ended up in the ER as his breathing was impacted in addition to the hives (thankfully the epi pen helped but he still had to receive treatment and be monitored). All of this was due to pancakes that we were told were gluten free. While my husband and I rushed our son to the hospital, my father who is a local resident, spoke with management. They comped our meal, which was kind. But this truly could have been a life or death situation.

The girls were full after that, but I wanted to try the beet salad. Have to say, one of the best I've ever had. The only disappointment is that they don't allow dogs outside on the patio. Otherwise we would come for lunches, as we live here year round. All in all, a nice night.

My go to is the chicken enchiladas pequeno mole. It comes with a side of rice and black beans. I am dairy sensitive and Calvin made sure my order was without cheese. The mole is so very flavorful and the chicken is so tender. I fully recommend this dish. The one enchilada with rice and beans is just enough. I saw when driving home there is a second location that is closer to the interstate. Will have to try that location sometime. But then I probably wouldn't have Calvin's as my server. Calvin is the best!
