I am not sure if these reviewers only eat fast food, but restaurant prices have skyrocketed the last few years... at EVERY restaurant. You will see a lot of the same reviewers that left bad reviews for Jalapeno Inferno down the street for the same reason... prices. Moving on... the food is good! Is it a bit bland, sure. It was our first and will be our last visit here. We were seated in an open cavernous "walkway" area that makes no sense from an ambiance standpoint. It just feels weird in that area. The menu is not very exciting. It is full of tacos and burritos. The salads sound rather boring and the way they list the charge for proteins is confusing. There is one entree with a steak on it, no chicken entree, no shrimp entree etc. The guacamole was really lackluster. It was a decent portion for $12 however it lacked acid and onion. The chips are amazing though! Thin, crispy and warm they are addictive. The salsa is okay. It is a bit watery, but decent enough flavor. The albondigas soup was very tasty albeit a little greasy on top with brown fat you could see all over the top. Service was fine from our server for the most part. She forgot to bring a few items but there eventually came after a second request. The kitchen was in the weeds and it took forever for our food to come out. At least an hour. First they brought a $25 gift card to use, then 20 minutes later three of our four orders come out and they drop the tostada right on one of our laps. They remade that. The chili relleno was weird. First off it was tiny for a chile relleno - if it had an ounce of cheese on it I would have been surprised. Then it had a strangely hard crust on it - not a breading or the typical egg batter. A thin layer of overcooked crunch that was not normal. The sauce served with it was brown, overly seasoned with cumin and very spicy. The Spanish rice was rather gross. Totally overcooked and pale that sat in ugly blobs on the plate. It was nearly flavorless. The beans were fine, nothing special nor terrible although they had a nice lightly browned bit of cheese on top. The fajitas looked good but the chicken was dry. The seasoned onions and peppers under it were very well seasoned. The flour tortillas almost seemed to be homemade however they had a strange plastic-like texture to them as they cooled. The one bright spot in the rash was the 6 tiny birria tacos that are an appetizer that were ordered as an entree. That is worth ordering carry out. They comped our entire meal after we asked for more than the $25. The said two folks had called in sick on the line and it was all in all a bad night in the kitchen. They should has limited the seatings to avoid the back up they caused. Even if the service had been perfect I will not be returning due to the flavors and boring menu offerings. read more

We've eaten dinner here a dozen times but hadn't tried lunch until recently. Our out-of-town company was leaving so we decided on lunch at the last moment. It wasn't crowded inside nor out and the patio dining is nice but we were disappointed in the lunch menu. Several of our favorite menu items were not offered during lunch. For example, there are no burritos or quesadillas on the lunch menu. We also could not order the Salsa Con Queso or the Salsa Con Queso which are our two favorite starters. Still enjoy dinner but no plan to return for lunch. read more

I ordered the 2 carne asada plate. That's two tacos for $32 because they charge you an extra six dollars for the Carne Asada, which was cooked right but wasn't seasoned at all. Flavorless. I paid extra for the Carne Asada, and there was more lettuce on the taco than there was meat. The tortillas were not cooked prior. They fell apart. The beans were tasty. The rice was not flavorful. The chips and salsa were really good. Service was lackluster. I don't mind paying for a good meal, but it wasn't a good meal. What a waste of $32. read more

This place recently rebranded, and we were so impressed! They're seed oil-free and use lots of locally sourced ingredients and high-quality meats, which is such a huge plus. The food was amazing, the service was incredible, and the ambiance was great. We started with the house margarita, which was perfect and not too sweet, along with fresh chips, guacamole, and salsa. For dinner, we had the chicken enchiladas and Wagyu fajitas, and finished everything off with the churros. Everything tasted incredibly fresh and was absolutely delicious. Our server, Ady, was so sweet and took great care of us as well. The prices were also fair for the quality of the ingredients and food you're getting. Highly recommend! Bubbling hot with chorizo and fresh homemade tortillas...mmm. @laco_mexicankitchen is a newer restaurant that has joined other great local restaurants located at The Summit on Scottsdale. It brings a warm, inviting atmosphere that is both causal and classy for a nice lunch or dinner for any couple, friends, or family. Inside, is beautiful decor and outside is a small patio that's nice on a beautiful AZ day (we just happened to be there on a rare rainy cold April day that made us quickly pack up and go). Service was very friendly from the hostess to the waitstaff. Food came out quick and was very good. Our margaritas hit the spot, and the salsa had just enough heat to add great extra flavor. I think we need to return on a non rainy day when we can eat slowly and savor the delicious looking wagyu fajitas that we witnessed other tables order. Visited here for lunch and sat outside. As soon as we entered there was a sign to seat ourselves. A server saw us and greeted us. She ended up being our server. Addy was very nice and made great recommendations off the menu. She was super attentive and made sure our drinks were always filled and our table was free of our finished dishes. Prices went way up - too high for Mexican food 4. Soup no longer included 5. Drinking glasses too small 6. Salsa bowls too small 7. Iced tea was rancid. Had to switch to soda. 8. If I could, I would give this place a 3.5. The food was delicious. You get to start with some chips (perfectly salted) and salsa. My husband ordered the carnitas chimichanga, I got el guero with shrimp, my mom got the birria and my dad got the skirt steak. Everyone really enjoyed their entree except for me. On the menu, el guero does not list sour cream as an ingredient, but when I cut into mine, sour cream spilled out of the burrito. I didn't opt to complain but didn't enjoy my food as much as I could've. The entrees all come with rice and beans as well as a choice of soup. The chicken tortilla soup was delicious - topped gooey cheese and crunchy tortilla strips which added great texture. Our service was fantastic - Cody was great and attentive. One other complaint I had was that there is no changing table in the restroom. I ended up taking my son out to the car to change him since there was no other option. It would be something nice to add to the restroom for families that may come to dine. Another issue that we had was regarding our opentable reservation. We were notified that our reservation was cancelled. We wanted to ask about it up front but there was a long line, so we just opted to just leave. This place is new and has nice decor. I ordered to go Friday for lunch. I order with the hostess. She was friendly. I decided on the Quesadilla! You choose your meat. Of course I picked carnitas!!!! It's full of flavor when done right. These guys know their stuff my Quesadilla was awesome. It was a good portion and came with chips and salsa. Along side pico, sour cream and guac! We have been coming to this restaurant since they opened about a year ago. Since they have opened, they have had at least two price increases in a year. The prices have always been on the higher side, as is most restaurants in this area, but it is getting a little ridiculous. $26 for two regular tacos and beans? They also used to include a cup of their soup with the meal, now it's an additional $6. They also stopped serving shredded beef, which is too bad because the beef tacos in my opinion were the best. The bar is one of the best couple of hangout spots within the Summit Shopping Center. I cant speak about the dining room but the bar high tops even during hard core rushes is also just as awesome! Food is actually awesome it all tastes great. Even with the many menu evolutions. The kitchen is on point and will make (minor) adjustments to items. Food always really good. Just beware than anything you really like maybe removed from the menu and any given moment. NEGATIVES Prices: AWFUL. This is the most expensive mexican food you can get in the area. It's still really good but the prices are crazy and they keep going up, fast. Menu. They keep trying to prototype dishes for the "other restaurants" that the owners have. They even closed down lunch time at this restaurant for months while they used their staff to work on another restaurant they were opening. Meanwhile, missing out on lunchtime business for all the customers who would come here for lunch time for monrhs seems like a missed opportunity but I don't run the checkbook. Owners. They seem to use it as a hangout and take up 3-4 bar seats when there is an empty dining room and a nearly full bar. They dont even sit there they usually leave their laptops at vacant seats in demand. Straws. The bar dispensers of straws are always packed so tight you cant even take one out. I would recommend not as much "just right OCD" but. Our waiter Josiah stopped by to let us know he will be right with us which was really nice. We ordered the carne asada fajitas with shrimp and it came with rice, beans. Tortillas and tortilla soup. My wife and I went to La Cocina on a recent Saturday afternoon. The sign at the front of the restaurant said "Seat Yourself", which we did, at one of the booths. We sat there for 15 minutes. Despite three restaurant employees walking past us - and looking at us - not one greeted us or even acknowledged our presence. They walked past us, into the kitchen, and never came back out to serve us. After 15 minutes of being ignored, my wife and I left and went to El Encanto in Cave Creek. Used to really like this place; as it managed to satisfy my tex mex cravings! But they've changed their menu so....don't waste your time or money! If you're from the south (Texas specifically) and craving true tex-mex you'll be disappointed. If you're midwestern you'll love it. Flavors are very bland; not spicy at all! I requested an order of tortillas with butter as an appetizer. Tortillas came, no butter. Wait staff couldn't care less....they were like yea butter is on the tortillas before they're cooked. We dined here last night. We had to wait awhile for our food as they were short staffed due to flu going around. It was very nice and clean inside this establishment. The decorations are beautiful, we loved the flickering lights. Our waiter was excellent as was the entire staff. I was talking to my wife about getting a couple more dogs later in life, our current pups are getting old. She had consumed some beverages during our wait for food. I thought maybe, she would be more open to the idea (versus other times I attempted this). This was not the case . I believe when the waiter came back, her mood was perceived as our being upset about the wait. Understandable, but not the case. So the manager came out and took care of us for waiting. She handled this very professionally, which was appreciated. I just want all of you that served us at the restaurant to know what the irritation was actually about! Extremely disappointing experience. The staff was shockingly rude from the moment we walked in -- dismissive, short, and clearly uninterested in providing even basic customer service. It felt like we were inconveniencing them just by being there. What's even worse is that they raised their prices overnight by about 50% while taking things away and charging as addons. Zero justification, no signage, no transparency -- just inflated prices. For a small snowbird town where locals and seasonal residents rely on community businesses, that kind of price jump feels opportunistic and unfair. Between the poor service and the sudden price hike, we won't be returning. It's a shame too because we were going there almost weekly. It took over the space from another Mexican joint that went "taco up" last year. The new owners didn't just rebrand--they gutted the place and started fresh. The result? A vibrant, inviting space with a modern twist. The circular bar is a standout, and the bartenders (yes, bartenderesses too!) are skilled, friendly, and know their way around a shaker. We've now been 6 or 8 times and sampled a good chunk of the menu. From starters to mains, everything has landed well. Most recently, I had the tacos, my wife had a vegetarian entrée, and we shared their queso and chips--which deserves a special shoutout. Creamy, flavorful, crave-worthy queso. Just the way it should be. Their happy hour offerings are solid, with good variety and fair pricing--though there are two areas I'd love to see some improvement: 1. Tequila selection - Come on, team. Lose the bottom-shelf stuff (whatever that "Devil's Spit" is, yikes) and stock up on some smooth, mid-tier tequilas. We're in Arizona--people know their agave spirits. 2. Margaritas - Watermelon and Midori are fun twists, especially in summer, but $12 a pop feels steep. Let's see some creative seasonal flavors and better value. Bring the sunshine to the menu. One last note: desserts. Churros are fine for the kids, but how about some flan, tres leches, or even a house-made cake? It would elevate the meal's finale and give us grown-ups something to look forward to after those tacos. Bottom line: Great food, great vibe, friendly crew, and a neighborhood spot worth returning to--which we absolutely will. This is a delayed review from our visit in January. The service was horrible and what we did eat was mediocre. Our waiter disappeared. We finally received our appetizer and drinks after an hour but our entrees never came. When I went to complain to the manager, he said that they were operating with no chef and limited staff. We decided to leave instead of waiting any longer - it was over an hour at that point. The manager gave us a gift card for a future visit that we will not use. It would have been more appreciated if they did not charge us for our appetizer and two drinks. I did feel bad for the manager, who was young and probably somewhat inexperienced. read more

This location is very far north Scottsdale almost to cave creek and worth the drive! Great food and great service at this adorable restaurant. The chips and salsa were good and had a little spice! All the food and margaritas were great and filling. The cheese dip was a little lack luster but had a cute presentation. Great option to add to your Mexican rotation! read more

We've been coming to this restaurant for the past six months or so and I've always enjoyed the food and atmosphere. We recently dined there and we were surprised to see a change in their menu a significant increase in prices. My husband is extremely picky when it comes to Mexican food and has always enjoyed their fajitas. However, the same entrée that he would normally order increased to $50 (they now charge an extra $6 for soup - which was previously included with the meal). The original price was Apx $30. Very disappointed with dinner last night. We are local, regular customers and were shocked to see the astronomical price increases in the new menu. We have ordered the wagu beef fajitas before, but now the price for 6 oz is $44 and 10 oz is $56. They now charge $6 for soup which had been included in the fajita price previously. We ordered the fajitas and were shocked to discover about 50% of the beef was fat and gristle. See photos attached. We spoke with the restaurant manager and she was gracious and comped our fajitas but we won't be returning. If we have to pay $56 for fajitas, we will go to Capital Grill or Eddie Vs and order a USDA Prime Filet Mignon. When this restaurant raised its pricing to $56 for 10 oz of beef, they have out priced themselves. As Cave Creek permanent residents, we have always tried to support local restaurants. However, this restaurant has sent a clear message that customer satisfaction is not their top priority. Adios. read more
