The atmosphere here is the one good thing about this place. We went for lunch. We had the Tonto Burger with a side salad. The burger had very little seasoning and the bun disintegrating while trying to eat the burger. It was a mess. Also had the Cobb salad with grilled chicken. The chicken was so dry I had to ask for extra dressing to try and eat it. It didn't help. They must used some preservative on their salad. Because both of us had a reaction like it had MSG or something similar on it. Our water glasses were not refilled, they were empty for at least 15 minutes. When we were ready to leave they came and refilled them. We will not be back. It wasn't a good experience. It's too bad because the place is very pretty read more

Only 2 handicapped parking near the restaurant and even if you are lucky enough to get one of those spots, it is quite a walk from the parking lot to the restaurant. Heavy entry doors with automatic openers for disabled individuals. Same with the doors to the bathroom. We shared an order of beef tips soft tacos. They were build your own tacos loaded with flavor. We love Tonto . We got dressed and drove over for lunch. Ordered our favorites 3 Sisters Chips and Salsa and corn chowder for my wife. Our problem today was the flies were overtaking our meal. Not one or two but several that would not quit landing on our food, face and finally in my wife's ear. We were inside . Another table brought a little fan with them I'm assuming for this pourpose. I sent a note to management but for 51 bucks plus tip we had to abandon our food and leave hungry. Please get some ceiling fans or those cheap little fans for the tables.. Tough, cold, not very flavorful meat, and some cold fajita veggies, with three corn tortillas that had been steamed but then sat out until they were a little dry and crunchy. I was visiting from GA with local relatives and they recommended coming to Tonto. They are located amongst a Hilton Vacation Club property with a Pueblo design. The restaurant overlooks a golf course and has a lovely southwest ambiance. I had a prickly pear margarita ( beautiful) to start. We ordered the bread appetizer and I had the harvest salad which had berries, beets, marcona almonds and goat cheese. This was a nice starter, though the dressing wasn't terribly memorable. For the entree, I ordered the short ribs with a smooth and tasty mole sauce. It was served with a yummy polenta with green chile and corn and squash ribbons. My relatives ordered the vegan veggie bowl and the steak which they seemed to enjoy.. The service was pleasant and not too intrusive. Not a friendly welcome. I was hoping to enjoy a nice afternoon on the patio with the iconic view -- however I was told I could sit on the cocktail patio. I had nothing but amazing service as a solo traveler on my 9 day vacation, but this was the only place I left feeling disrespected as someone hoping to dine alone. There was a lively main patio (with still lots of open spots available) and a great view, yet I was told to sit on the deserted (no view) patio. It's so quiet and peaceful and right on the golf course so green and lush. My friend got the compressed arugula salad, and I had the harvest salad, both were delicious. We got the half portion and it was just the right size., We both had salmon for our protein, which was cooked to perfection. To start, we ordered the fresh baked gluten-free bread, which has quinoa, flex, sunflower, and sesame seeds. It was so good, with a little bit of butter and drizzle of honey as recommended by the waiter. It did not disappoint. The service was very good here. The meal came out quick and they consistently came to refill our water glasses and checked on us just often enough to be helpful. I will say that the price point is a little high, but for a special occasion it was worth it. My friend and I were celebrating our birthdays together. read more

They were able to provide an outdoor heater which made everything all the more enjoyable. We had a lovely view of the golf course and enjoyed the beautiful sky as we dined. Service was friendly and attentive. The menu offers a variety of options with designated GF and vegan menus. We started with the Three Sisters app which provided chips and fry bread to go with three types of salsa and guac. I ordered the vegan relleno which is a veggie and quinoa stuffed poblano pepper with a tofu skewer. My wife had the veggie tacos with tofu. While the dish was quite filling, I do feel that it lacked a bit of flavor/zest. Nonetheless, I was thankful for the creative vegan options and would visit again! It has been several years since I was here. I love the patio at lunch and wanted to treat my friend. I was worried that the wait would be long because it was a fabulous day in March and was so pleased to be seated right away. The bus boy came immediately with water. The waiter was not long behind. They were very accommodating when we shared a salad for appetizer and shared a Rueben sandwich for entree which they split to two plates. It was hot and delicious. A nice American / Southwestern inspired restaurant located at the Rancho Manana resort. My husband ordered the Tonto Burger (pro tip: add green chile and bacon!) it was a mournful but so good! I went with the chicken soft tacos-- they were build your own style which I appreciated being able to add the toppings to my desired amount. The avocado crema was my favorite part! I also tried the golden corn chowder which was loaded with corn, potato's, and bacon! The hint of thyme gave it a great herby flavor. TONTO'S please do not do the Mother's Day experience ever again!!!! I really hope someone from management reads this! I'm very sorry to leave this review because my family and I love going to Tonto's. However, on Mother's Day this year the restaurant decided to have a set menu that did not include anything from the original menu. When we called to make reservations we were not told this over the phone. Myself, husband, and mother in law were really looking forward to their German pork schnitzel and we couldn't have it. No one told us it was going to be $100 per person either. When we checked in with the hostess no one told us there. When we sat down with a waitress she did not explain how the menu was going to work or the price. Instead all she said was "what are you having?" After we chose our entrees all the sudden food came out that we didn't order. Then someone finally explained that is the appetizer that's part of the course. My family and I we never get apps because we won't finish our food. So it's was something we didn't really want but I will say the appetizers were good! The dessert was also pre-picked and I'm sorry Tonto's but it was bad. There was some kind of grapefruit crème brûlée piece that had a weird aftertaste. I always get their chocolate cake that comes in a cup with I think a bourbon caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream. Couldn't have that because it wasn't part of the set menu:( There was another chocolate raspberry cup that was alright but I just wanted the chocolate cake, it's my favorite. Also the back door was open and flies were everywhere. We spent more than half of our lunch shooing flies off our food. Once we got the bill my heart sank when I saw $443!!!!! When we usually come we might spend about $150 for our family and that's also if each person gets a cocktail! Also, there was a set menu for kids and honestly it's nothing a kid would eat. I asked if we could have Mac n cheese or maybe tenders for my 2 year old. Waitress said, "Sorry hun whatever's on the paper is what you can order, we don't usually get kids here." We got grilled chicken that didn't have much seasoning, fat stalks of asparagus and carrots, with a cut up baked potato with the skins on it. My son did not eat any of it. My husband described it as a 'man meal' not something for a toddler lol. The comment the waitress made had us feeling like the kiddie menu was an afterthought. I've never participated in a dinning experience where all three courses are included so I was confused most of the time and sure I should've asked more questions but our waitress was gone more than half the time. Yes it was busy but we only saw her a few times throughout our meal. The cherry on top is my mother in law got sick later that evening with terrible stomach pains from the halibut! Today I decided to eat my leftovers from my meal that day ( only got 3 bites out of it because the appetizer was very filling) and now I've thrown up and sick to my stomach. Not only did we spend wayyyy more than we anticipated but two of us had gotten sick. Plus we never got the schnitzel. Tonto's we will be back because we love that dinner plate and the dessert I mentioned but pleaseee do not do this again. If you do please take into consideration telling your patrons beforehand and especially the price! I do recommend Tonto's to all my family and friends. We stopped in here for lunch while doing a day trip to explore cave creek and carefree. What a welcoming space that was nicely decorated in a western feel, without being cheesy. Our waiter was super friendly and you could tell he loved the menu, as he gave lots of recommendations and even steered me to my ultimate lunch choice, so glad I took his advice! Hubby got their Tumbleweed salad, and he loved it. The half portion is a perfect lunch size. I ordered the Vegan harvest bowl and was in love with it! The risotto- yum, succotash had a little kick to it, one of the best hummus I've had, and the pita was made in house and super delish. I wish I lived closer so I could eat this again and again! Overall, very happy with this choice for lunch and will be back again! Whenever we have out of town guests we love to take them to Tonto Bar & Grill. It's such a unique setting in the cowboy town of Cave Creek. You can't beat the view overlooking the Rancho Manana Golf Course. We easily made reservations online. We sat outside on the patio and they had really nice heat lamps on. I did eat from the gluten free menu. My husband and I shared the gluten free wood glazed salmon with sweet potatoes, quinoa $38 and the large gluten free Cobb salad $17. My Dad got the ribeye steak $48. The presentation , service and view were definitely 5 stars. My Dad said the ribeye was ok. He asked for medium rare but it was more on the medium well done side. The salmon smelled really fishy and I should have sent it back but it tasted ok. My husband and I immediately got stomach aches after eating our meal. He is not celiac. My symptoms were not gluten allergy symptoms. This put a damper on the rest of the night. I love Tonto bar and grill normally but something was off. We called that night to let them know and they gave us a $38 credit. Not sure if I will go back. read more

My husband and I had never been there and he decided to surprise me for Mother's Day today. It was just the two of us and he made reservations for inside. When we got there, they told us that they only had outside seating and it's 100° outside. So we found herself a table at the bar and the hostesses were not that friendly at all. Their menu was smaller because of Mother's Day and 99.9% of the food I would never eat. So they didn't do a menu that is something that most people would want. I ordered a steak medium well it came and it was bleeding. They took it back. The manager brought me my new steak and it looked exactly the same as the first steak. They didn't offer to bring me anything else. They didn't even offer to bring me a Desert on the house since it was Mother's Day. They simply took it off my bill when I told them I didn't want it.
