Food and service were spot on. I dinged them one star because it is challenging for disabled people. Only 2 handicapped parking near the restaurant and even if you are lucky enough to get one of those spots, it is quite a walk from the parking lot to the restaurant. Heavy entry doors with automatic openers for disabled individuals. Same with the doors to the bathroom. We shared an order of beef tips soft tacos. They were build your own tacos loaded with flavor. We had dinner there on a busy Sat night. Chris was our waiter, sarcastic but funny and a really good waitress. The food was incredibly good. I had the filet with an ancho chili sauce, mashed potato's and I subbed the street corn for the asparagus. It was all delicious. Then, to add insult to injury: 1. a 3% surcharge if the customer pays via credit card; and, 2. while certainly an immaterial amount, when paying by cash, and taking into account that they don't use pennies anymore, instead of rounding down so that they take a 2 cent "hit, they round up so the customer takes a 3 cent hit. I was visiting from GA with local relatives and they recommended coming to Tonto. They are located amongst a Hilton Vacation Club property with a Pueblo design. The restaurant overlooks a golf course and has a lovely southwest ambiance. I had a prickly pear margarita ( beautiful) to start. We ordered the bread appetizer and I had the harvest salad which had berries, beets, marcona almonds and goat cheese. This was a nice starter, though the dressing wasn't terribly memorable. For the entree, I ordered the short ribs with a smooth and tasty mole sauce. It was served with a yummy polenta with green chile and corn and squash ribbons. My relatives ordered the vegan veggie bowl and the steak which they seemed to enjoy.. The service was pleasant and not too intrusive. We started with the Three Sisters app which provided chips and fry bread to go with three types of salsa and guac. I ordered the vegan relleno which is a veggie and quinoa stuffed poblano pepper with a tofu skewer. My wife had the veggie tacos with tofu. The golden hour view of the sun setting over the golf course and cactus landscape was straight out of a painting. You can't beat the view overlooking the Rancho Manana Golf Course. We easily made reservations online. We sat outside on the patio and they had really nice heat lamps on. I did eat from the gluten free menu. My husband and I shared the gluten free wood glazed salmon with sweet potatoes, quinoa $38 and the large gluten free Cobb salad $17. My Dad got the ribeye steak $48. The presentation , service and view were definitely 5 stars. My Dad said the ribeye was ok. He asked for medium rare but it was more on the medium well done side. The salmon smelled really fishy and I should have sent it back but it tasted ok. My husband and I immediately got stomach aches after eating our meal. He is not celiac. My symptoms were not gluten allergy symptoms. This put a damper on the rest of the night. I love Tonto bar and grill normally but something was off. The evening was truly perfect yesterday. We got into the restaurant with a late add reservation for 6:45 and was seated a tad early despite the lot being packed. This is a busy time of year and lots of folks were golfing and heading to dinner after their game. We got a wonderful seat right outside on the perimeter looking over the greens of the golf course and it was beautiful. We had a bottle of silver ghost Cabernet, which was quite good. Then I had the 5 ounce pesto crusted chilean Seabass, over a bed of rice with a hint of pineapple. The sauce was absolutely amazing as it had mushrooms green peas. My wife was in the mood for a burger, and it was quite good as well. We typically share our meals, and we were both very pleased. Our server, Bobby Ray was wonderful, and we hope to see him again. Lynn, Tonto has been quite consistently for dinner and it is nice that we don't have to go all the way into Scottsdale to get one. I don't recommend this place cause they are charging a 3% fee called a employee benefit fee on food and beverages. It's in the small print at the bottom of a menu. My wife and I ate there and they would not remove it. We asked the manager and still would not remove the 3% fee so I will not be going back just for that reason. read more
