I am a very nervous dental patient. I've had really bad experiences early in my life, and it makes finding a dentist that I trust and respect very challenging. Throughout every step of becoming a new patient at Valley dental care everybody there helped me in ways that I could not even have imagined. They are so professional very nice. The doctor had very soft hands and was very caring with his touch inside my mouth, performed a filling and even 3-D printed the segment of tooth that needed to be replaced in five minutes!!! The hygienist was incredible. She is very careful with how she works within your mouth and the tools that she uses inside your mouth to make sure that you have a comfortable experience the entire time you're there, I am so happy that I found Valley dental care, and I'm definitely recommending to everybody. It a recent visit to Valley Dental Care, I ran into many issues and do not recommend them to anyone. 1. I set up the dental work that I needed to have done to help save for my insurance plan. However, when I went in to have to work done, they had changed my procedures around and it would have ended up costing me several hundreds of dollars more because of my insurance if I had not been vocal about changing it back to the original plan. 2. When I went to pay my bill that was not covered by my insurance, I was asked to pay way more than what I was told before. So again I had to have them change things around. They didn't even have my copay correct. I actually said to the lady, "It's a good thing I'm vocal, I wonder how many people actually just pay it without question?". She didn't respond. 3. While getting my wisdom tooth pulled, I literally have to show the dental assistant with my hand to get the suction down into my mouth. I was choking on the blood as it was accumulating in my mouth. She asked me later if it was the smell that caused me to gag. I had to tell her that she was not suctioning the blood and I was choking on it. "Oh" she said. I guess me showing her with my hand didn't help. 4. While setting up my dental work, I was very clear about the cost and only wanting to do what was covered under my insurance plan. "Yes, everything is covered". "So, I will not have any out of pocket costs?" "No, you are covered completely". Yet, several weeks later, I received a bill. The procedures that I had done were not covered under my insurance. 5. When I called to discuss it with Valley Dental, they said it says in their financial policy that it's not their responsibility to know my insurance. I explained that I asked them directly if I was covered and was told "Yes". Their response, "Everyone has such different plans that we can't know them all." OK, fair enough, but when I asked about some common courtesy and just mention to patients that their insurance may not cover some of the work, I got the response, "our financial policy...". Great, don't take any responsibility and hide behind your small print... I will say the dentist was fine but I'm a firm believer in the professionalism of a Doctor is only as good as his staff. If Valley Dental Care runs this poorly, I'm glad the I got lucky with no major problems from the work done. However, you should read Evan K's review on here also as he wasn't so lucky. With so many dentist out there, do yourself a favor and find another Doctor. read more

The staff here are very polite and professional. They got me in and out of my appointment on time and fully explained the costs and treatment options to me. Very pleased with my first visit. I scheduled a cleaning right after that. I was seen on time once again and they got right down to business. Here is my experience with this place: 1- You pay more than you should: Suggested way more treatments that I needed. Gave me a bill of over $4000 for doing all sorts of unnecessary stuff. I double checked his list with three other dentist and guess what? turns out that I needed fewer procedures totally costing $1000. Can you trust such a Doctor? 2- You get less attention that you should: Made mistakes in my filling. Completely forgot one part of the filling causing me a lot of pain. And charged me again for redoing it with no remorse. 3- On the positive side: Big office. Nice equipment. Everyone is smiling. A response to Dr. Varda's comment below: A. I have been at your office multiple times and everything I wrote is my direct observation (only a part of the issues I had at your office to keep it concise). B. I would like to start by saying that his staff was ultra-prepared, organized and efficient. I did not experience any of the things mentioned here with respect to treatment plan confusion, cost of care changing, etc. In fact, at the time of service my fee was actually less than they told me by $50. I had a root canal and while many people told me that I would feel some pretty bad pain afterwards, I feel virtually no pain at all. He and his staff did a fantastic job. His office is equipped with the latest instruments and visual aids, including flat screen TVs in each examination area that he uses to display images of what he's looking at and to explain proposed procedures. You just can't get any better than Dr Varda in my opinion. And as far as the negative reviews on this page, everyone's experiences are different but a wise man once told me that if everyone around you is difficult to deal with, perhaps it's not them but you. About 7 years ago, they put in a cap on my rear molar that created a gap which annoyingly trapped food every time I ate (I had to carry floss in my pocket for years) I pointed this out to them and was told there was nothing they could do. We talked about it every time my teeth were cleaned. They just found cavities on both teeth between that gap. I KNEW this was going to happen. They are saying since a different dentist at their practice did the cap (now retired) they are not responsible and the current dentist is saying he would have taken the cap out immediately and replaced it if he had been there. Great, but I have a $1,000 bill I would have to pay (which includes a 20% discount when I complained). I felt they should pay for at least half. They claim because, I paid for a plan for folks without insurance that gives me a discount that this is as low as they will go. I carried around floss for 7 years and now I have to get novacained up and get a cap and a cavity filled. They should have fixed this for free years ago and instead I have paid the price and am still paying. On top of this, I was given the wrong (lower) amount that was to be charged as they were looking at the wrong patient's info (it's a human error- no big deal, but I would have argued all this in person if I had known) Own up to your mistakes Valley Dental care. read more

I have been going to Valley Dental for over a decade now. I have never felt so unwelcomed, disrespected, and uncomfortable. The front desk woman took 5 minutes to even check me in. She was behind the wall and must have assumed neither I nor the other patient in the waiting room could hear. WE COULD. She was literally talking crap about the other patient to the other girls in the back. Making comments about her cancelling and rescheduling and coming in late. THE GIRL WAS IN LITERAL TEARS. She could clearly hear the front desk woman saying all of these nasty things. She continued to make eye contact with me as she saying all of these things and mentioned something about the poor girls insurance and payments plans. She was so rude and fake and nothing like any of the other front desk workers. She is violating patients rights by discussing their information. My technician is great and no problems with any of the doctors. However, the disrespect I witnessed was unacceptable and I will no longer be a patient and neither will my four kids, my husband, nor my mother and father. She needs to be fired. read more

I am so happy with my experience at valley dental. I went in with a really bad tooth ache and to make matters even worse I was so nervous. I have always been scared of dentists. The staff was extremely helpful and understood that I was very scared to be there but they did everything they could to make me feel comfortable. I ended up getting a root canal and did not feel any pain during the process or after. I went to Dr. Varda in late 2010 and he filled three very small and shallow cavities. After the fillings I had discomfort and pain whenever I chewed on my left side. I scheduled another appointment and Dr. Varda's staff said it was normal for the first month. I since moved to Los Angeles and saw a new dentist because the pain wouldn't go away. After looking at my x-rays from Dr. Varda's office, not only were the cavities so small they didn't need to be filled, but Dr. Varda gouged my teeth when he filled the cavities. He didn't just drill the top, he literally took out about half of each tooth. The nerve in the tooth with pain was dying because he went so deep he hit it. Approximately a thousand or two dollars, 6 dentist visits, and a root canal later, my tooth has finally been fixed. I would not recommend Dr. Varda to anyone. If this had only happened on one tooth, I could see how a minor mistake had been made. He drilled too deep on 3 out of 3 teeth. DO NOT SEE DR. VARDA read more

We no longer recommend Valley Dental to friends or family. We have had multiple billing issues over the years. We were charged for fluoride treatments that we never received. When we called to discuss the charges we were told that they would "take the charges off as a courtesy." I told the billing employee that it wasn't a courtesy, it was an error in billing she didn't respond. We had this happen three times in a row despite having a note put into the chart that patients in our family decline fluoride treatment. We also discovered that the office had been charging us out of pocket for a procedure that our insurance company told us was included in cleaning fee. Insurance company told us that they were double billing us for years. Multiple three way phone calls with office and insurance company in which insurance company repeatedly told them they could not bill us for the procedure resulted in continued refusal to reimburse. Despite trying to resolve this issue the office would not correct their mistake. There were also many appointments for cleaning and exam that Dr. Varda did not make an appearance for exam portion but we were billed for both a cleaning and exam which meant that we used our allotted exam. We were told that "Dr. Varda reviewed the X-rays at another time so that counts as the exam." Um, no. After going to another practice we realized how little care we received from Dr Varda. He literally blew through exams in less than 5 minutes, never allowed time for questions and wasn't very friendly. Our new dentist spends more time with us in one appointment than in 2 years worth of appointments with Dr Varda. I considered filing a complaint with my insurance company and may still do so to seek restitution for the money that we were charged that was supposed to be covered by insurance. The only thing I miss about this office was my hygienist Donna. I miss you Donna! read more

I've been a patient of Dr. Varda's for over ten years, and my husband has been going there for about eight years. We are totally satisfied with the services we receive - and they HAVE been extensive. Dr. Varda's office staff are pleasant and efficient, and he is an excellent dentist. He also acts more like a doctor than any other dentist I have ever visited, which is wonderful because he considers drug interactions and other medical issues before treatment. Dr Varda and his staff are always incredible. I've been going there for almost 20 years now. We drive almost 20 miles to get there, but I wouldn't go anywhere else. My wife on the other hand took my daughter to a local pediatric dentist for a "$20 cleaning and free exam" we received a mailer for. They said my 6 year old daughter(she's now 10, but at the time) needed 6 fillings. Those teeth are about to fall out! We took her to Dr Varda which he determined there were no cavities, and that they were only stains, not cavities. We also sent the x-rays to my wife's uncle, who's a dentist in a different state for a third opinion and he also confirmed there were 0 cavities. Dr Varda is very personable, honest, and professional. His hygienists, Hazel and Donna, are always awesome as well. read more

I've been a patient here for over 14 years. Dr. Varda and his staff (both medical and administrative) have always been super friendly, super professional, and super competent. The office is always a welcoming, warm place to be. I have never experienced any of the problems some other reviewers have posted. If Dr. Varda were dishonest or incompetent, he's had opportunities to display those bad qualities that to me - but hasn't. One example where he could have displayed dishonesty or incompetency (assuming he were dishonest or incompetent) was several years ago when I needed a root canal. Instead of doing the expensive procedure himself and keeping the fees for himself, Dr. Varda referred me to an endodontist because of what Dr. Varda expected could be difficulties with the procedure caused by the root structure of my tooth. And, yes, even the endodontist's specialized skills were tested by that tooth! Another example was more recent, when I went in with extreme temperature sensitivity with a tooth. Based on previous experience with other teeth, I fully expected I needed a root canal on that tooth. If Dr. Varda were dishonest or incompetent he could've agreed with me and done an expensive root canal, which indeed would have cleared up the temperature sensitivity. Instead, he determined the issue was a slightly exposed root caused by the gum receding a tiny bit. Dr. Varda suggested I temporarily stop using the Sonic Care toothbrush (which I had just started using) on that tooth area and allow a few days for the gum to re-cover the exposed root. That did the trick as predicted, and I've had no trouble with that tooth in the few years since. Oh, and by the way, no charge for that office visit and diagnosis! Because I expected a root canal that day, had I gotten one I would've been pleased with the result (no more temperature sensitivity) and gone home none the wiser. Dr. Varda had an easy opportunity to take advantage of me, but didn't. read more

Don't recommend this place. My impression: 1- does not pay too much attention to the teeth 2- charges higher than other dentists. My husband had a tooth filling here. He had so much pain for one week after, and had to go back to see what is wrong with that tooth. It turned out that there was another cavity on the tooth that the doctor had not noticed. This time he said the tooth needed a root canal not a filling. The prices were also higher than what other dentists charge me with the exact same discount plan. I could accept this as an isolated incident if in the next visit (a couple months later) he had not found all sorts of other problems which could have well been present during the previous visits. I must add that their office is nice and seems to be well-equipped. But, what we really expect from a doctor is the maximum attention to our health and a fair price- non of which we received at this place. read more

I was visiting Valley Dental as a new patient. I was given some Xrays and had some pictures taken, and Dr. Varda identified a cavity (which seemed legitimate). He also reviewed the depths of my gum pockets, and these were all 2-3mms. He then proceeded to diagnose me with periodontal disease and told me I needed a rather invasive "scaling" done, which is a 3 hour procedure and costs around $550 after Cigna insurance. I did a bit of research and discovered that 4mm and above are considered appropriate depths to prescribe the scaling procedure. I called my trusted dentist from home and he was appalled that Dr. Varda recommended this to me, stating that having reviewed my records from my last visit that unless I had taken up meth, there was no way this procedure was close to necessary,and that I may have mild amounts of gingivitis at worst. He told me that this is a way that dentists bring in a lot of money. My dentist from home explained that even in cases where patients have 4mm pockets, he recommends getting them on a flossing regiment to see if it can be reduced by the next appointment to avoid scaling. This was not even suggested to me. I just can't recommend this office. read more
