Please be aware of this place!! The admin staff is impossible to deal with. I had a bill that I went into the office to pay, the front office insisted I did not have a balance, so I went about my daughter's office visit. About a month later, I got a certified letter that I was being removed from the practice for not paying my balance! I called and spoke to the billing lead, who was condescending and rude. She kept reading off my address and listing dates of statements; I tried to explain to her that I went into the office to pay and was told I didn't have a balance, so how am I supposed to pay something the front office staff is telling me I don't owe... She said they're new and don't know what they're doing. She explained that they probably clicked into the wrong chart because my child has a common name. And somehow this was supposed to make me feel better about the whole situation. This is who I'm trusting to treat my young children... very concerning. read more

The Gilbert office is horrible! We arrived there 7min late, and they refused to let us check in! We were never late to previous appointments, just because of the traffic due to road construction today, we were a little late. And they did not even listen and try to help. Just keep repeating we cannot accept check in later than 5min window! I don't think they care about patients, they just want to take off from work on time! So disappointed! read more

My 4 month olds check up was yesterday, I had my stepmom take her because I am very very sick (which this office does nothing about, even with my 2 year old sister with a 104 fever), dr. Tracy sat there with my stepmom questioning my parenting just because I wasn't there that day. I parent my daughter by myself everyday, and I find it very rude and disrespectful for a doctor to talk about not only a mother but a patient to their office behind their back. as a teen mom I get enough slack, I don't need a doctor in an office I regularly go to to be rude, thanks. read more

I have been taking my 2 boys to this office since both were born. One is 8 and the other is 21 months. We see April Resop NP and Kelli Garland NP. This office is very kind and great with both my kids. They explain everything in detail and take the time to answer all my questions. I am from a small town and this office makes me (and my baby) feel like a number. No personalization or familiarity. Cold front desk workers you can tell just "do what they are told" and don't go out of their way. They are young so maybe they just don't have experience, unsure. You are given a different doctor every time so they don't really get to know your baby so the client-patient relationship to me is bland. Again, I am from a small town so am used to warm environments that still know how to keep on task and get the job done. read more

I'm conflicted because Dr. Nason is the best! She is our daughter's primary pediatrician but the following experience happened because my daughter was sick and we made the appointment just a few hours prior to going. I went in with a last minute appointment with my then 5 month old daughter on April 22, 2019 because she had a nasty cough and fever. Upon checking in I was informed that they were really busy and the doctor was a bit behind on schedule (which I understood). Once we were taken back into a room, my daughter had her vitals taken and we were told that the doctor would be in soon. 20 minutes later, Dr. Carolyn Smetzer came in, she appeared a bit irritated and rushed through the whole check up. She had no sympathy for my concerns and made me feel that i was stupid for asking questions (i'm a first time mom and was very concerned for my baby's health and safety!) On top of that, she kept commenting on how she has to "deal with" so many patients today because her co-workers "decided to take a 3-day weekend." I feel that this shouldn't have impacted her attitude or her professionalism, but unfortunately, it did. I left the office feeling unsure about my daughter's health & like a nuisance to Dr. Smetzer. She is unprofessional and rude. read more

Even during flu season (they keep the sick patients and well patients separate) the wait wasn't long at all. We have been taking our three kids to Desert Shores for 6 years and have great experiences there. I have always been able to get appointments when I needed them. During Covid they have had great protocols in place to keep everyone safe and have been very accommodating when appointments have needed to be rescheduled. We love the doctor we see and she has taken wonderful care of our children. The office staff has been helpful with scheduling, school paperwork, and answering questions anytime we have needed anything. read more

I used to really like this practice, but I'm done. As a mom of triplets, I don't have time to mess around with a practice that doesn't take my concerns seriously. The only caveat is Dr. Potts - she's great - but this last interaction with the practice is my final straw. My trio ended up with pneumonia a year ago and one daughter also had RSV because Dr. Potts' nurse didn't let her know that I had called FOUR times in one week - telling her they weren't getting better and I thought they needed to be seen. When we finally were seen in the office, we were directed immediately to the ER. I complained to the practice manager and she apologized and said they were working on those communication issues. On Friday, my daughter was limping after playing outside at daycare. We saw Dr. Potts, who told us to go get an x-ray, even though she wasn't showing any symptoms - aside from limping. The x-ray results came back late, and the doctor that called me back (not Dr. Potts) apparently hadn't even looked at Hannah's x-ray - but only passed along the info given to her about the fracture from SimonMed. So this doctor calls me, after not looking at the x-ray, and telling me a cast isn't "indicated for this type of fracture." She said to just try to keep her off that leg, and see an orthopedic doc on Monday. (Good luck trying to keep a two year old off her feet!) My gut knew that wasn't right - got in touch with a sorority sister whose husband is an orthopedic surgeon in another state - he said to take her to get a cast on her ASAP then see an orthopedic specialist on Monday. Take her yesterday - she has to have the cast on five weeks, and can't run, jump, climb, anything - for EIGHT WEEKS. She's freaking two - that's her whole life - running, jumping, climbing, dancing. Sure seems to me like a cast IS indicated, right? The fracture is even called a "toddler fracture," so how does a pediatrician not know what that is?????????? I don't know what is going on in this practice, but we won't be coming back. read more

I've been looking for a new pediatrician, so when my youngest became sick I decided to try this practice. They were able to fit me in within the hour that I called. There are two entrances: one for well child and one for sick children. The waiting room is very clean, new furnishings, and beach theme which is carried through to the patient rooms. Even with filling out paperwork, we only waited 17 minutes before being called back to take vital statistics. We saw Dr. Johnson. She was thorough and addressed my questions and concerns (even concerns that I didn't have). I felt that she is passionate about patient education and an advocate for her patients. So, why 3 stars? During our visit, Dr. Johnson asked if my son ate breakfast that morning. My toddler proudly blurted out that he had "monster toast and pretzels." Although, yes he had toast (multi-grain, and the monster part is by cutting the toast with a cookie cutter) he didn't mention that he also ate 2 'lil cuties first (yes, there was no protein that morning). The pretzels were grabbed on our way to our appointment because it was during our lunch and nap time. I didn't have time to prepare a lunch because we were rushing out the door to make the appointment after I called. She asked if he eats that every day. I kind of laughed and said of course not thinking the conversation would be over with because I wasn't there for that reason and didn't want to have a long conversation about it. Obviously, she didn't believe me and Dr. Johnson took this opportunity to 'educate' me about obesity in America. She lectured on about poor diets of refined and processed food and examples of those foods. We were not there for a well-child visit, I was there because my child was ill. This office has never seen my child and has no previous records to compare weight. If they did, they would know that neither of my children are obese. As mater of fact, my youngest was 36th percentile for weight at his most recent well-child. I'm sure I sat there with my mouth gaping open. I didn't know what to say. I go to great lengths to ensure my family has healthy food choices. I regularly shop at 3 different stores for organic fruits, vegetables, and lean meat. In my defense (and no offense to those who have), my children have never been to McDonald's. My husband and I follow a rigorous exercise program 5 days a week and primarily follow a paleo and low carb diet. We ensure our children have active play and make healthy food choices. I do have "unhealthy candy and processed food snacks" in my home, but typically it goes stale and gets thrown away long before anyone eats them. So, yes my toddler ate toast and pretzels that day. It was one moment of the day, one snapshot of time that he didn't have the best of meals. He was sick. In between 'meals,' he typically grazes on fruits, vegetables, and nuts all day and he has an overall "well-balanced diet." I realize there is an obesity crises, but my family is far from obese. She even went on to make a shocked remark during his physical exam that he isn't obese. It is the holiday season. I'm sure she sees plenty of people that over-indulge and families that are obese. However, that is no reason to shame me and make me feel like a bad parent based on this one time visit and information that my toddler provided. She has no background from other interactions on my children. Will I go back? I don't know at this point and I wouldn't see her. I'm still flabbergasted that I was lectured about providing improper food for my child on my first visit. And, I'm mad at myself for being so caught off guard and not speaking up. Parenting is challenging and difficult, you shouldn't be judged and shamed at your pediatrician's office for something that has no merit. read more

Sadly we had to leave this practice due to inaccurate information regarding diet (after seeing 4 different doctors- we did give them a chance!). They continued to state that they understood (a vegan diet)- but they wanted every 3 month intensive labs to continue to prove that my children were not deficient in anything. They also contradicted the AAP and even when that was stated, said they 'knew better' and it is not a diet they recommended for anyone. Talk about their own bias! (Or simply lack of understanding nutrition). Both my husband and myself dreaded taking our children. We are now at a practice that understands that they are doctors not nutritionists and believe what the AAP says regarding diet. read more

Everyone here is great and they are very accommodating with schedules. I love their late hours and that the are open on Saturdays. Dr. Baron is our daughters pediatrician. She is absolutely wonderful and caring. She goes above and beyond and we are so grateful to have her in our lives. Our baby girl was recently diagnosed with a very rare genetic disorder (only 600 people in the U.S. have it, 2k worldwide). When she was in the hospital, Dr. Baron called us on a Friday night to check in on her. When she was diagnosed we let her know we would understand if this was going to be too much to learn and wanted to give her time to decide if she wanted to stay our baby girls pediatrician. Dr. Baron immediately said she was in it with us and wants to learn all there is about cystinosis. At each appt she wants to know the latest and greatest and helps fight for us to get meds approved by insurance that our daughter so desperately needs. She has even helped us in emergent situations after hours. When you have a sick child you want to be surrounded by the best and someone who will love and fight for your child as if they were their own. Dr. Baron and team... Thank you for being there for us. We couldn't get through it without you. I highly recommend Desert Shores Pediatrics... Especially Dr. Baron! read more

We used to love this practice but it has gone downhill over the years. They use an excessive about of physicians assistant "PA's" which are not medical doctors instead of actual pediatricians. One of the PAs we saw ordered $1800 in testing without consulting the physician on staff. I felt uneasy and went to another practice where we saw a pediatrician who found the teats completely unnecessary and diagnosed my little w strep. I made a complaint with the office manager she said they were working on training. I'm shocked at all the 5 star reviews. read more

When I was pregnant with my first daughter my husband and I interviewed several pediatric offices in the valley. Many of them were disappointing or just plain cruddy. We felt so blessed to find Desert Shores Pediatrics. We go to the Chandler office and my daughters both see Dr. Lipp. She is kind and understanding of parents who take a more natural route to their child's healthcare. Another Yelper said that she won't prescribe antibiotics for you baby which is not true at all! She has prescribed antibiotics for my daughter on several occasions when something didn't resolve on its own or was getting worse instead of better. A good doctor doesn't just write prescriptions for antibiotics without making absolutely sure that is what your child needs. In the long run, overusing antibiotics hurts your child's ability to fight off things naturally so it's good that Dr. Lipp doesn't just hand them out for every cough or cold. We do get all of our children's shots but we are on a different schedule than the recommended one and while some other offices in the valley refused to work with us on this, Desert Shores was completely understanding and although they do warn us of all the issues with not following the recommended schedule they allow us to go by our schedule. The front desk staff is always kind and knows our kiddos by name. We have come to feel at home in the Chandler office. I wouldn't take my kids anywhere else. I can always get them in for a sick appointment, even half and hour before they close, and almost all of the practitioners there are wonderful. Especially Dr. Lipp and Kathy. An awesome collection of friendly staff, knowledgeable NP's, and incredibly supportive doctors. The facility is uber-clean, very kid-friendly, and split to allow separation of sick and healthy kids. We've called a few times (unplanned) and were able to see a doctor same day- so they are very flexible to allow for last-minute needs. The medical staff seem to follow a more modern doctrine, which is nice- the last pediatric office we took our infant child to seemed a little outdated and old fashioned in the advice given. Let the positive reviews speak for themselves; this place is a dream for parents needing new pediatric care for their children. Schedule an appointment with confidence, and you will see first hand how well they treat their patients. Every time we've been in (preventative care and sick days) the staff has aimed their attention at our daughter- as it should be. They ask how she's feeling, give her "high fives", praise when she does well following orders, etc. It's sort of cool to see adults giving total respect to a 1 year old. We are new to the area and I made an appt for my 16 year old here. Great impression when we walked in, greeted with a smile, clean lobby. Office has a cute be achy theme so it's not overly babyish which my 16 year old appreciated. Met with the doctor and she was great. Very relaxed, asked lots of questions. Today was my kids first appointment with Dr. Van Tassel, she was amazing and made my 7 year old and 2 year old feel very comfortable. The service was speedy but it didn't make us feel rushed at all. We have recently moved from NYC where we had an excellent (!) pediatrician to East Valley and had to find a new doctor for our daughter and the baby on the way. I have taken my daughter to several doctors in the area and they were all prescribing her the same stuff after listening to her breathing. I knew it wasn't helping but I could not get anyone to listen to me well. Finally, after contacting a fellow yelper I found out where she was taking her kids and decided to give Desert Shores a try. We went to Chandler location (different address). We first saw Kathy who was super sweet and wonderful. She even got on the floor to play with my daughter and took time to answer my questions. She has also recommended the old treatment but made sure I knew I could call any time if it wasn't working. Four days later we went back to rethink the treatment and got to see Dr. Nason. She listened to us and ordered a few tests (finally) to see maybe it wasn't what they were thinking. She called me back that same evening to say that my daughter's problems were of viral (not bacterial like they had assumed before) origin. We are now waiting for some more test results to figure out the best course of treatment. Looks like we finally found a pediatrician for our kids :) read more

I enjoy this practice a lot, and we LOVE our pediatrician. My only issue is scheduling well-checks seems to have to be months out to get to see your actual doctor. I like the consistency of having the same person treating my kids. But beyond that, we typically get seen very quickly when needing an appointment, and have never had a bad experience. read more

She has gone out of her way to check on my kids when they are sick. I can't say enough good things about her. She's kind, caring, she always listens when you need to be heard. Worst clinic for my kids that I have ever been! Front desk staff didn't know what they were doing. Had to sign tons of paperwork like signing for a new house. Super hectic and frustrating. Took both my son and daughter in for the 1st time as a recommendation. My daughter had to get 2 shots and they waited until the end of the appointment to do it! Talk about having to comfort my daughter. Who does that??? Shots should be given right away, quick and easy so kids don't have a complex or a nervous breakdown which she did. Nurses didn't know what they were doing and to top it off they had my 12 year old daughter and 10 year old son dis-robe in front of each other to do wellness checks on them, completely inappropriate and unprofessional! Why would you not put different genders in different rooms?! UGH. Not to mention I told the front staff when I called to book an appointment and when we got there that my son has ADHD and how important it is to get his meds refilled since we are re-establishing a new doctor. They wanted to re-evaluate my son who has been on medication since the 2nd grade!! The doctor that we saw past the buck to someone else! Unbelievable! Seems to me they just want to schedule you to death and make appointments to make $$. Then forget about calling the medical director, that was a joke, no mailbox and phone tag with issues not resolved so took to the internet to write this review and warn people to stay away from this train wreck of a practice, more like a zoo with the worst unethical standards a parent could endure! I was just as impressed with the Doctor who diagnosed a underlying problem with my grandson's health and very grateful I took him there. Where do I begin. First off, I have never had to wait longer than 5 minutes to get into a room. Anyone who has ever been to a doctors office knows that something like that is unheard of. Even with the covid precautions, everything is SO streamlined. Everyone at the office has been very nice, so helpful, even with billing issues. The other big thing I love is how they have set times during the day and on Saturday just for sick visits. It's much easier to go to a place that already knows you and your child than to try and get into an urgent care. Example: Baby boy wasn't feeling well. I called at noon and was able to get an appointment that day for 3pm. Turned out to be perfect as he had an ear infection. I highly recommend!!! read more

My youngest has special needs and he has received excellent care and has been referred to the best specialty Docs at Phoenix Children's Hospital. We love the office and all the staff! read more

This company has a great atmosphere and the doctors themselves are great! Unfortunately the business model is worried about the bottom line more then the care of the patients. After three separate situations I have opted to change providers, and I and wish I would have done it sooner. I've been going to this place for years and ever since this new gilbert office opened, I find myself there for almost an hour and half for a well visit. It especially doesn't help when you have a 2 year old who is being fussy because she doesn't want to be there. I tried to make early appointments to avoid a behind schedule and I still end up waiting. I just don't have the patience to wait over an hour and only meet with the doctor for about 10-15 min max. If you decide to go here, schedule at the chandler location because it's seems to go a lot faster. I don't know if I'll switch but glad my daughter's well visits are only once a year now. read more

I've been going to this location for a year now with my son. The staff is friendly, it seems clean, and the location is great for me. One positive is they can always get me in last minute. However, I've had multiple occasions where my appointment time is 20-30 minutes before I'm actually seen by a doctor or aide so I'm sitting in an exam room with no toys and a sick infant! This is by no means atypical of a doctors' office, but you'd think since we're dealing with kids here, they'd be better at not overbooking and being on schedule. I hate being that parent that leaves the exam room to ask when the doctor will be there - I really do. read more

We love it here! This office is SO clean and beautiful! We have taken our 5 month old to 3 different ped offices and we finally found "our place!" The rooms are so cute and the doctors really take their time with us... They even point out things before we even ask! I have been going to this month since my son was born so about two months. We have had been for about four appointments so far. We usually see Dr. Allred who we love. She is patient, calm, and has a very welcoming feel to her. With that said our last appointment, two month checkup, we saw Dr. Garland since Dr. Allred was on vacation. Dr. Garland told us that my son was underfed and instead of recommending a lactation consultant to see what was going on, said that my milk was not fit and did not have fat in it which was why my son wasn't gaining weight. She said I needed to switch to formula immediately. I was not ready for that so scheduled an appointment with a lactation consultant to see what was going on. After meeting with the LC she said moms bodies make exactly the right milk their baby needs so it wasn't my milk causing this and also my sons weight is right on track for an exclusively breastfed baby and there was nothing to worry about. Dr. Garland was giving me incorrect information based off a chart for formula fed babies and not breastfed babies. The LC and myself were so upset for the stress and incorrect information Dr. Garland gave me. If I hasn't reached out to a LC and followed her instructions by switching to formula, my baby could have lost the opportunity of breast milk nutrition. I will be filing a complaint in hopes to help other mothers avoid being put in this situation down the road. Overall, I give Dr. Allred five stars, and one star for Dr. Garland. read more

We moved to the area and wanted to find a pediatrician closer to our new home. I took 2 of my kids to Desert Shores multiple times. Each time I kept thinking it would get better and to give it time, but it never did. The office itself is very clean and the front desk girls seem competent. The first problem I had was they nickel and dime you. I have always split my kid's vaccinations up, choosing to give them no more than 2 shots at a time. This means I have to make multiple visits. Desert Shores REQUIRES you to have an "office visit" every time instead of billing it as a vaccination which means you must pay a co-payment every time. With my insurance there is no co-payment if it is just a vaccination. The 2nd problem was my child was running a fever and sick on a Friday before a holiday weekend. I took him in and at that point he did not have an ear infection but was obviously unwell. The P.A. would not give me a prescription for antibiotics to hold onto just in case he became sicker over the long weekend. He told me I would have to "come back" on Tuesday. I am not one to give my child antibiotics when not needed but I have been to other doctors who have been kind enough to realize that there was a good possibility he could be at the start of his sickness and get worse. The 3rd problem was a different P.A. that I took my child to was very pushy and obnoxious. She was bound and determined that my child needed a tb test. This was during a routine well-check and he was healthy. She used scare tactics on more than one occasion about different issues and if I had been a first time mom I would have probably left the office in a panic. I would not go back to this office ever again. I stayed long enough to make an informed decision. Maybe not every provider there are like the people I encountered but it was bad enough for me to move on. read more

They will double bill you, once when you check out and then bill your insurance.
