    Masala Dosa

Checked out this newer Indian restaurant that can be chaotic. Desi Chowrastha has a few locations across the country including this one in Naperville. It certainly seems to be authentic and most people eating here are of that ethnicity so that's a good sign. A lot of the classics on the menu. They have something for most preferences. Basically it's an order at the counter kind of place, and they call out your name when it's finished. It's got a pretty big menu that makes it hard to choose, and that's a good problem. The menu has plenty for meat eaters and vegetarians. A lot is organized by categories. They have curries, dosas, and tons of other stuff. It's about $7 for appetizers. We got the combination of idli and sambar. Basically it's like rice cakes with a spicy soup for dipping into. The rest of the menu is full of stuff. It's about $10 for a dosa. So many interesting flavors of these. I got the Masala Dosa. This is a pretty standard one with potatoes and spices. For sure this is one of the many such places to get Indian cuisine. It's located on Route 59 in the plaza with the movie theater. There's tons of things for vegans and vegetarians.

Desi Chowrasta, a new restaurant that opened about five months ago, has quickly become a favorite for quick, delicious snacks. If you're looking for tasty, ready-to-eat Indian snacks for a quick pickup, this is the place to go. They offer a variety of vegetarian and non-vegetarian options that are always available. It has also become our go-to spot for evening snacks with friends, where you can enjoy pakoras along with some of the best masala chai in Naperville. The owners and staff are incredibly welcoming, making you feel right at home. One of the biggest advantages is that they stay open until midnight, which is perfect for late-night cravings. We often stop by after watching a movie at Showplace. I highly recommend Desi Chowrasta to everyone looking for authentic snacks and a warm, friendly atmosphere. I have visited this restaurant thrice on my last trip to Chicago. Loved the food. The mutton and chicken biriyani are authentic and it has become my new favorite. Their south indian tiffins were amazing too and the irani tea was excellent.

This is a great Indian restaurant that is located on this big strip mall where you will find a lot of parking spaces up in the front. If you are looking for something that's very authentic Indian this is a must place to go. However, this is not a place if you are looking for some intimate, quiet sit-down spot. This is a very busy area and this is a very busy restaurant. You will have to go up front, order your food and then they'll give you a number and then you'll find a place for your own. Go take a seat and then when your number is called you will have to go pick up your own food from the counter come back, sit down and eat. The spice level is definitely Indian spice level. Even if you do end up ordering medium. It is not the regular medium. It is the Indian medium which is hot and spicy in itself. But if you are someone who likes that then this is a great place for you. The inside decor looks like graffiti designs on the wall, but they all have some sort of meaning or understanding which is pretty nice. They are definitely family friendly and very casual. I don't remember seeing any outdoor seating but then we went there when it was super cold so we were not looking for outdoor seating. They have a lot of vegetarian options and they also have some vegan options available.

Chicken Frankie for $11.99, how skimpy is this?? It's smaller than a bean burrito at Taco Bell.

I have been to many restaurants where food is not that great but the customer service is top notch and for that I give them credit, but at this place they turned out every small request we made for food for our small kid, we didn't ask for anything for free, we asked to customize, which they straight turned down, they have nothing that is kid friendly here. Food-wise, we were happy with our selections. We started with the Babai Punugulu. I can't tell you what it was b/c the description only said: A south indian snack enjoyed on the street side, served hot with house chutneys. I can't tell you if there was meat / protein / veggie in it or not. TBH - the menu should have described it a bit more - but it was good and we enjoyed the chutneys that came with it. Having just looked it up online - they are: golden, bite-sized fritters are made from a fermented batter of rice and urad dal mixed with onions, green chilies, and cumin. For entrees - we got the Butter Tikka Masala (w/ chicken) and Rogan Josh (w/ lamb). We asked for them spicy and I thought the spice level was good, but we could have gone spicier - but one never knows. It came with white rice and we ordered a garlic naan. The naan had a good amount of garlic on it so quite good. We enjoyed both of our entrees - I might have gone chicken for mine instead of lamb next time. The sauces for both dishes were really good and plentiful. The only drawback is the ordering / menu. It's on your phone (no menu in the restaurant) - which makes it hard b/c the phone is small - and you literally have to click on each dish to know what it is. Took a while to order. I would recommend having a hard copy menu - or changing the online portion where you can see the descriptions easily w/o having to click on each one. Overall - a great place with good food.

This was a very disappointing experience at Sara's Restaurant on 05/30/26…read more There was only one waiter serving the entire restaurant, and we often had to get up and find him whenever we needed something. The biggest issue was the payment process. The waiter handed me a portable payment device showing a total of $94.04 and immediately prompted me to select a tip amount. I chose 15%, bringing the total to $106.15. Only after asking for a receipt did I discover that an 18% service charge had already been added to the bill. I felt misled. The waiter should have first shown the full bill breakdown before presenting the tip screen. Charging an 18% service fee and then prompting customers for an additional tip without clearly disclosing it is not transparent. My party consisted of two adults and children, with the oldest being only 10 years old, which made the service charge even more surprising. The food itself was decent, although the portion sizes were quite small compared to other restaurants charging similar prices. Had the billing process been handled honestly and transparently, I would have overlooked the portion sizes. Unfortunately, because of this experience, I will not be returning. I wanted to share this review so others know what to expect.
