This was a very disappointing experience at Sara's Restaurant on 05/30/26. There was only one waiter serving the entire restaurant, and we often had to get up and find him whenever we needed something. The biggest issue was the payment process. The waiter handed me a portable payment device showing a total of $94.04 and immediately prompted me to select a tip amount. I chose 15%, bringing the total to $106.15. Only after asking for a receipt did I discover that an 18% service charge had already been added to the bill. I felt misled. The waiter should have first shown the full bill breakdown before presenting the tip screen. Charging an 18% service fee and then prompting customers for an additional tip without clearly disclosing it is not transparent. My party consisted of two adults and children, with the oldest being only 10 years old, which made the service charge even more surprising. The food itself was decent, although the portion sizes were quite small compared to other restaurants charging similar prices. Had the billing process been handled honestly and transparently, I would have overlooked the portion sizes. Unfortunately, because of this experience, I will not be returning. First off, the food is pretty solid. I had the chicken and shrimp curry and it was quite good. Naan was really good too. Also has the lentil soup and that was just ok. A bit plain. What bothered me was the overall vibe there. Been too a lot of Indian restaurants and one thing they have in common is they're typically very welcoming. I read a review saying the owner always greets them nicely. He didn't even acknowledge me coming in. The waiter was very nice but got me in and out very quickly. Didn't pour my water. The overhead music was more like a massage spa than a restaurant. Play some traditional Indian or Pakistani music. That's more fun. It just all seemed a bit uncaring. This review is for their Saturday lunch buffet (until 3pm). I love a good Indian/Pakistani buffet and sometimes it's hard to find one outside of the Mon-Fri lunch hour. Sara's lunch buffet was delicious. We were greeted warmly by the staff, seated immediately, and were served warm naan fresh from the kitchen. As part of the buffet you get water and chai (both are self-serve). I wanted a mango lassi so I ordered one as well (not included in the buffet price). One thing I noticed was that all of their plates and bowls were Corelle. We use the same plates and bowls at home, so we loved that. Now on to the food: everything was kept fresh and was continually refreshed. The put out smaller, fresher portions from the kitchen so that nothing is sitting out for too long which was nice. I was able to get two helpings before I was stuffed. We also got a second order of naan, but ask the server since the naan comes from the kitchen, and is not laid out on the buffet tables. The price is great considering it's an AYCE buffet, for under $18/person. The buffet options included: butter chicken tandoori chicken aloo curry chana masala chicken briyani nihari (stewed beef) vegetable pakora basmati rice and more The buffet is great place to go if you want a variety of Indian/Pakistani food. I always get an assortment of breads (Chapati and Paratha are my favs), Butter chicken (mainly for the sauce , and this time I got their Tandoori platter (#2) as well as saffron rice. Went 9/29/23 for late lunch. I was looking forward to it being my first time there. I ordered plater #3 and naan with appetizer of fried fish. Fish was very strong. Platter disappointing. We really didn't eat much because all but 3 pieces of meat were so over cooked, I couldn't cut it with my knife. As I was paying the bill, I asked server about the meat. NAAN-SEQUITUR This Indian restaurant in Naperville charges high prices that just "do not logically follow" the laws of decent value. So far, Sara's Grill & Eastern Cuisine has been the only Indo-Pak place my wife and I have tried since moving to Will County last year. They're located in the northwest corner of Route 59 and 95th St, near the AMC Showplace Cinemas. Although they feature a lunch/dinner buffet, we've only gotten carryout up to this point....and perhaps therein lies the issue. ......the issue being that everything is a-la-carte. Rice. Naan. Even a small cup of 'raita' (yogurt based sauce w/cucumber, similar to Greek tzadziki) is an upcharge. The entrees don't come with diddly squat; rice is an extra $6 for a large and $3 for a small. I wouldn't mind as much if the rice were seasoned or otherwise special, but it's just boring ass white rice. Their butter chicken ($15) is incredibly good, it's one of my wife's favorite items and sometimes we place a double order so that there's enough for leftovers. That stuff is heavenly. If you order naan ($4) you'll get a big, folded-over piece with garlic, onion, and sesame seeds, not unlike an 'everything' bagel. It's very tasty. My spicy beef nihari ($15) consisted of two large chunks swimming in a pool of gravy/chili oil. The beef was tender and flavorful but in no way, shape, or form was that worth anything CLOSE to $15. There should have been twice the amount of meat, or they should be charging half the price. Fifteen bucks was outrageous for this nonsense! An absolute ripoff. When you take into account the fact that the buffet is $15 -- a variety which features all-you-can-eat entrees, appetizers, sides, and even dessert -- this makes the beef nihari serving size all the more appalling. Granted, not all menu items are available on the buffet (most notably, butter chicken is omitted) but it's a far better value than carryout. * TL;DR * You don't have to speak Latin to recognize a crummy deal (or enjoy a sick food pun), but for those who do, I'll add this: caveat emptor. Sara has a delicious item in their butter chicken, though the portion size of the beef nihari was super disappointing and the overall value for the money is bottom-tier. I was stunned at how little food we got for the price we paid. Also, rice shouldn't be nearly this expensive--it's just f*cking rice. Chinese places literally give you buckets of it for free with any order. I find it very hard to believe the little bit of cumin Sara puts into their rice is the difference between being 'complimentary' and $6. I might be up for a dine-in experience at some point, but the next time we feel like Indian food we'll probably set our sights elsewhere. read more

I highly recommend this business! The food was hot and delicious, the portions were generous, and the presentation of the food was nice. The variety on the menu was large - although the drinks were a little constrained. I asked for tea, but I was warmly greeted with that which wasn't my imagination nor typical of the American convention (black tea). Something easily oversee-able, especially when the milky beverage was tasty nonetheless. The cleanliness of the restaurant, the service, the prices - all stellar. Our waitress was so darn polite and kind. It was unlike any previous service I had experienced in Illinois. There was no wait time either (we walked in at 12:47 p.m. on a Saturday). Got a to-go order last night and it was delicious. We live 30m away, yet the food was still hot by the time we got home. Love their to-go packing, no chance or worry of ANYTHING spilling. We ordered the goat biryani (10/10), chicken 65 (8/10), and the mutter paneer (7/10). The chicken 65 was delicious and would have gotten a 10, but there was extra oil on top that made it messy. That being said though their spin on Chicken 65 is my favorite from anywhere - its more saucy and not dry at all and PACKED with flavor. The Mutter Paneer was delicious too, but could have used more mutter (peas) in it. The flavor for everything was great overall. read more

Our group of 8 ordered Bihari Kabab, Hara Bara Kabab, biryani, paneer makhani, bhindi (okra) ghosht, and some starter beverages including kawa tea. Perfect blend of spices; not too rich, just sufficient to bring out the natural taste of food. Each and every diverse dish was cooked to perfection. Bhindi ghosht which is somewhat of a atypical preparation for goat was a very pleasant surprise. The goat meat was freshly procured. The dish was a perfect and unique blend of spices, okra and goat meat. In addition the quantity of food was substantial. Despite trying our best we could not finish it in one sitting. Excellent value for money. I would give 4.5 stars for food. Service though was a bit slow..... the servers had limited knowledge of the dishes. read more

Zero to do with the food or the actual restaurant. However, the run down, eye sores of trucks that are parked in front of the restaurant are a poor reflection on the restaurant itself and makes The Crossings look like a junk yard. I'm surprised the property management company hasn't cleaned it up, but double parking a rusted out, old moving van and a similarly run down conversion van is a horrible look for the owners and the community. read more

It was very pricey but the flavor delivered! Had the Lamb Tikka Masala which was my favorite. Also tried the Goat Qorma with veggie rice and garlic Naan. Since we are from Texas and staying close by Naperville, went to eat there. food had different taste than Houston. may be folks here like it but wasn't up to our liking. something I really want to point out here that they have different prices on their menu than what they charge to customer. its a very wrong business ethics and misleading the customers. They should change their prices on menu as well to follow very basic business rules or "charge what you have written" otherwise its called cheating your customers! read more

The food is amazing and they pack it well so it's still super good as takeout. Best butter chicken around. They are kind of pricey though.

A total let down :( The food is taste less. The appetizer grill plate has chicken kabobs dyed in dark green color and are dried inside out lacking any seasoning. The butter chicken chicken too was hard and the gravy was runny and salt less. The chef doesn't know how to cook chicken in tandoor( leaving it in too long) or it has been cooked over and over. The lamb curry was cooked fine , but lacked salt and didn't taste right. The food lacks the restaurant food fines that you go in for. We had informed that my son is allergic to eggs and so we would like no egg on out table. We got tandoori roti and just about when my son was about to take a bite, my husband just double checked and was told that the dough had egg. So luckily we caught on time so we asked for a roti with no egg for him,which came after 15 mins and were charged for it too. Sorry, but no real reason for me to go in again. read more

First time ordered got chicken curry(i found it a little salty) and tandoori naan, was super soft, 2nd time ordered same week karahi chicken strangely it tasted same as chicken curry and tandoori naan was warm but after taking two bits it became rubbery and hard so obviously it was not freshly made. so consistency is an issue. read more

In a recent conference call, a go around ice breaker question was, favorite restaurant. I of course started thinking of one of my favorite cuisines Indian and other types of Mideast cuisine places since It is one of my favorites, and Sara's came to mind. It's been awhile since I've eaten here, it is 40+ miles from my home, but there was a time, before COVID, I'd go to volunteer meetings In Naperville. The meetings were not the most exciting, but to motivate myself to go I'd treat myself to Sara's it was so yummy. I thought I had written a review way back when but today thinking of Sara's, I visited the website and Yelp, and I saw I never did. So better late than never. I'd have the Butter Chicken made extra spicy and hmmmmm good. And the garlic Naan did a good job of mopping clean my plate of the sauce. I miss eating at Sara's and I am half tempted to drive the 80+ miles round trip, but with no in dining and the food being cold by the time I returned I guess I'll just have to savor the memories. read more

We hosted my brother in law's wedding reception at this restaurant. The food, ambience, service and people are exceptional. We had approximately 60 people with lots of kids in the mix and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The restaurant has a laid back feel to it, and the food is prepared by authentic cooks who understand the nuisance of the cuisine. I am very pleased with the price as well.
