    From the lunch buffet
    Eva S.

This review is for their Saturday lunch buffet (until 3pm). I love a good Indian/Pakistani buffet and sometimes it's hard to find one outside of the Mon-Fri lunch hour. Sara's lunch buffet was delicious. We were greeted warmly by the staff, seated immediately, and were served warm naan fresh from the kitchen. As part of the buffet you get water and chai (both are self-serve). I wanted a mango lassi so I ordered one as well (not included in the buffet price). One thing I noticed was that all of their plates and bowls were Corelle. We use the same plates and bowls at home, so we loved that. Now on to the food: everything was kept fresh and was continually refreshed. The put out smaller, fresher portions from the kitchen so that nothing is sitting out for too long which was nice. I was able to get two helpings before I was stuffed. We also got a second order of naan, but ask the server since the naan comes from the kitchen, and is not laid out on the buffet tables. The price is great considering it's an AYCE buffet, for under $18/person. The buffet options included: butter chicken tandoori chicken aloo curry chana masala chicken briyani nihari (stewed beef) vegetable pakora basmati rice and more The buffet is great place to go if you want a variety of Indian/Pakistani food. I'm a fan!

    Platter # 2

Every now and then I crave Indian food, and Sara's Grill never disappoints! I always get an assortment of breads (Chapati and Paratha are my favs), Butter chicken (mainly for the sauce , and this time I got their Tandoori platter (#2) as well as saffron rice. All was delicious! Highly recommend!

Went 9/29/23 for late lunch. I was looking forward to it being my first time there. I ordered plater #3 and naan with appetizer of fried fish. Fish was very strong. Platter disappointing. We really didn't eat much because all but 3 pieces of meat were so over cooked, I couldn't cut it with my knife. As I was paying the bill, I asked server about the meat. He said that's the way it's is because of the cooking method. I was shocked. What I did eat was like eating pressboard with salt. Won't go back.

We've only gotten carryout from this indian place that's off of Route 59 in Naperville....it's pretty expensive, honestly

NAAN-SEQUITUR This Indian restaurant in Naperville charges high prices that just "do not logically follow" the laws of decent value. So far, Sara's Grill & Eastern Cuisine has been the only Indo-Pak place my wife and I have tried since moving to Will County last year. They're located in the northwest corner of Route 59 and 95th St, near the AMC Showplace Cinemas. Although they feature a lunch/dinner buffet, we've only gotten carryout up to this point....and perhaps therein lies the issue. ......the issue being that everything is a-la-carte. Rice. Naan. Even a small cup of 'raita' (yogurt based sauce w/cucumber, similar to Greek tzadziki) is an upcharge. The entrees don't come with diddly squat; rice is an extra $6 for a large and $3 for a small. I wouldn't mind as much if the rice were seasoned or otherwise special, but it's just boring ass white rice. Their butter chicken ($15) is incredibly good, it's one of my wife's favorite items and sometimes we place a double order so that there's enough for leftovers. That stuff is heavenly. If you order naan ($4) you'll get a big, folded-over piece with garlic, onion, and sesame seeds, not unlike an 'everything' bagel. It's very tasty. My spicy beef nihari ($15) consisted of two large chunks swimming in a pool of gravy/chili oil. The beef was tender and flavorful but in no way, shape, or form was that worth anything CLOSE to $15. There should have been twice the amount of meat, or they should be charging half the price. Fifteen bucks was outrageous for this nonsense! An absolute ripoff. When you take into account the fact that the buffet is $15 -- a variety which features all-you-can-eat entrees, appetizers, sides, and even dessert -- this makes the beef nihari serving size all the more appalling. Granted, not all menu items are available on the buffet (most notably, butter chicken is omitted) but it's a far better value than carryout. * TL;DR * You don't have to speak Latin to recognize a crummy deal (or enjoy a sick food pun), but for those who do, I'll add this: caveat emptor. Sara has a delicious item in their butter chicken, though the portion size of the beef nihari was super disappointing and the overall value for the money is bottom-tier. I was stunned at how little food we got for the price we paid. Also, rice shouldn't be nearly this expensive--it's just f*cking rice. Chinese places literally give you buckets of it for free with any order. I find it very hard to believe the little bit of cumin Sara puts into their rice is the difference between being 'complimentary' and $6. I might be up for a dine-in experience at some point, but the next time we feel like Indian food we'll probably set our sights elsewhere.

Hey guys, if you want a big huge serving of spicy, grilled meats, step right in to Sara's. This was unexpected for me. When I think of Indian cuisine, I think veggies. Wrong! I ordered a grilled platter and it was a mixture of different types of meat (including sausages guys)!! Unfortunately, I could not get a glass of wine, but Hoolihan's is right behind it so stop there if you would like a beer or wine after.

I highly recommend this business! The food was hot and delicious, the portions were generous, and the presentation of the food was nice. The variety on the menu was large - although the drinks were a little constrained. I asked for tea, but I was warmly greeted with that which wasn't my imagination nor typical of the American convention (black tea). Something easily oversee-able, especially when the milky beverage was tasty nonetheless. The cleanliness of the restaurant, the service, the prices - all stellar. Our waitress was so darn polite and kind. It was unlike any previous service I had experienced in Illinois. There was no wait time either (we walked in at 12:47 p.m. on a Saturday). I would be so glad to return for further business and thankful to have been shown it.

Man, had so much high hopes of this place but was disappointed with the food taste and quality. It was so bad that I didn't even take the remaining back home. The chicken malai boti is nothing like it's supposed to be...

Got a to-go order last night and it was delicious. We live 30m away, yet the food was still hot by the time we got home. Love their to-go packing, no chance or worry of ANYTHING spilling. We ordered the goat biryani (10/10), chicken 65 (8/10), and the mutter paneer (7/10). The chicken 65 was delicious and would have gotten a 10, but there was extra oil on top that made it messy. That being said though their spin on Chicken 65 is my favorite from anywhere - its more saucy and not dry at all and PACKED with flavor. The Mutter Paneer was delicious too, but could have used more mutter (peas) in it. The flavor for everything was great overall.

This wasn't bad at all. The food was good. The naan was fresh. Very nice, attentive, waitress.

I ordered online for carry out and the platform was easy to navigate. Once my husband and I arrived at the resto we were greeted by a very kind staff member. Our food wasn't ready but within 5 mins of us being there it was good to go. We tried the wonton soup and chicken dumplings app. Both were on the bland side. Normally I'm used to wonton soup also having noodles and theirs does not. Flavors were OK, felt like both dishes were missing spices. Everything was cooked perfectly though. Maybe we ordered the wrong items from here and need to try others instead.

In my experience, this signifies either the place was going to be a shithole to pass up, or it was a serious place to eat, then get out and go somewhere with an atmosphere. Happy to say J's (IMHO) is a serious place to eat. No-nonsense, direct and to the point. When I walked in, all those common chairs I mentioned were stacked upside down on the tables in the way that places do when they are closed. The taciturn fellow who worked there assured me they were indeed open, and explained they had just finish washing the floor. Please dont read any of this as negative-the best Chinese places I've ever been have looked like this-and if you've paid attention to the Travel/Food shows on the TeeVee, the joints in China itself are pretty much the same. On to the food, know this place is a Serious REAL-DEAL Chinese resto. I didn't notice if there were "Occidental" Chinese-type dishes on the carte, (primarily 'cos I wasn't looking for them). What I saw looked yum, and had a hard time making choices, even though I had read the menu multiple times and thought I know what I was going to order in advance. Confessionately, this is a chief feature for my tortured dining self-It's a wonder I even get fed in restaurants (especially the great ethnic ones), due to option anxiety. I zeroed in on "Street Noodles" for starters-wouldn't you? Then went to "Cold Beef Shank" for entreé. The Noodles were fab as was the Shank. The noodles were in a broth. with some hunks of bok choy and ground meat on top. Hearty, still light. The shank had a thin sauce complimenting but not obscuring the beefiness. One bugaboo: the Shank needed a bit of seasoning, and I wasn't going to use soy sauce, as I believed that would have marred the subtle flavors of the Beef. I asked for a salt shaker. It arrived, and I was a little taken back, 'cos it appeared it hadn't been washed in a while, and the salt inside was caked. It occurred to me this condition was present due to the non-use of said shaker. I don't think I've ever asked for a salt shaker in a Chinese resto. I pulled a toothpick out of my "Murse" and broke up the caked NaCl. Applying same to the pieces of Shank, the flavor bloomed and I was a happy boy. Bring some salt packets along when you visit "J's", maybe. The fellow who was waiter and cashier was a "western" fellow, whom I engaged and turned out to be quite an experienced foodie. some pleasant conversation indeed. Throwing 4 for this excellent establishment, with a few grains of salt separating it from 5...

My wife spotted this place across the street - Kitchen by Gordon Ramsay. How could we go wrong? Well, we couldn't. The interior was smartly outfitted - the lighting, the ceilings, the walls, were all classy and nicely done. Service was outstanding - water and soft drink glasses were refilled regularly, and the table checked for food quality on multiple occasions. I was intrigued by their Prime Rib Sandwich, which is served with onion crisps. I went for the $4 upgrade to Truffle Fries. The sandwich was LARGE, very tasty, and just plain wonderful to eat. The Truffle Fries added a bit of spice to the meal. My wife had their Fish & Chips. When I saw the sandwich on the side just coming out of the kitchen, I was wondering how she'd eat it, since the piece of fish was BIG. Like How Do I eat this BIG. Coffee was good, just hard to get enough refills. Potato-leek soup with chili oil drops resembled thin baby food, and was so tasteless, we had to request salt and pepper. They didn't even have salt and pepper shakers; it came in small tumblers. The Beef Wellington from the prix fixe menu was smaller than expected for the price. The beef was fine but was more like a filet than a beef tenderloin. The mushroom coating was far too earthy and tasted a little bit like dirt. The pastry was kind of raw on the inside. The sides that came with the Beef Wellington were a schmeer of mashed potatoes - which were okay - and a tiny pile of steamed carrots and leeks. The chocolate tart was good, but not incredible. Did not live up to the hype or the "Ramsey Reputation;" will probably not return. Overall experience - kind of "meh."

I brought the food to my parent's house for a family dinner. I really enjoyed the food. The fried rice wasn't out of this world, but the chicken lollipop was really good and the chicken & potato dish was pretty good. I love Asian food, so I'm stoked about having a halal option.
