I was informed that my deep cleaning would be completed in three sessions. However, when I arrived for the third appointment, I was unexpectedly told that I needed to pay an additional $198. I was never informed in advance that there would be any extra charge for this visit. When I questioned the fee and requested to cancel, I was told I would still have to pay a $160 cancellation fee. I was not allowed to leave immediately, and the situation became very uncomfortable. This is not about the money. It is about the lack of transparency and informed consent. Patients should be clearly informed of all treatment costs beforehand. Failing to do so is unprofessional and unethical. read more

DO NOT GO HERE. This office overcharges, upsells, and mishandles insurance. I started coming here because my insurance changed and this office was the closest in-network option. I didn't check reviews first, which I now regret. I came in with a fully maintained mouth (crowns, fillings, recently finished Invisalign) and needed one thing: an implant. Instead of a free cleaning and consultation, X-rays led to a claim that I was near periodontal disease and needed scaling and root planing, which cost me hundreds of dollars out of pocket. I later spoke with the orthodontist who did my Invisalign, who I still see regularly for retainer check-ins, and they confirmed they would never have approved Invisalign if I'd been on the verge of periodontal disease, and that I don't have it. From there I was put on a cycle of "deep cleanings" every four months, none covered by insurance and running up to $250 each. They only actually re-measured my pockets (the test that would justify continuing deep cleanings) once, over a year or two. At one point they suddenly said I didn't need deep cleanings anymore, with no new measurement to justify that change either, and I got a free routine cleaning. Then a few visits later, they reverted to charging me for "deep cleanings" again. The dentist, Dr. Ramin Partovy, also told me I should replace all my existing crowns with a "better" material, despite my having no issues with them. Cost estimates for procedures were handwritten and never printed out. On the insurance side, the office repeatedly pulled my medical insurance instead of my dental insurance, leaving me to pay out of pocket for a major procedure. I've had to call multiple times just to confirm they actually filed a claim for a visit. I believe they still owe me a refund from an overcharge, and they never proactively told me I was owed money. In one visit this past January, a routine cleaning again became a "deep cleaning" with an antibiotic rinse added on, billed at $250. I also spoke with a former employee, a neighbor of mine who used to do X-rays there, who told me she left the practice and that staff were pressured to upsell patients on procedures they didn't need. Dr. Partovy has never once greeted me or made eye contact in any of my visits, despite the money I've paid there. I eventually switched to a new in-network dentist. They told me my teeth were fine, that the only thing I actually needed was the implant, and gave me a clear printed quote in the same appointment. No pressure, no upselling. I've also since learned that a hygienist who used to work at this dental spa now works at my new dentist's office. Multiple staff have left this practice. Between the upselling, the insurance mishandling, and the lack of transparency, I'd strongly encourage people to look elsewhere. I'd also encourage you to look closely at the reviews here: there's a heavy split between five-star reviews that read as generic praise and one-star reviews describing experiences very similar to mine. I spent $200 on teeth whitening! The second treatment they look worse not better!! Don't waste your time and money!

I came here for a regular first visit and cleaning after an insurance change - nothing unusual. After doing a few x-rays, they told me that I would need a deep cleaning and antibiotics applied to multiple teeth. I informed them that I had been going to the same dentist regularly for years, take great care of my teeth, and had never been asked to do a deep cleaning or have antibiotics applied anywhere. They pushed back multiple times, having different staff come to try to sell me on this $540 procedure, while being vague about the benefits or why exactly I needed it. They also initially framed it as a standard procedure and didn't mention anything about the $540 price until I asked. I explained multiple times that I just wanted a basic cleaning with $0 copay, as covered by my insurance. After several rounds of pushback and making me wait, they told me they could not provide me with a basic cleaning and that I was welcome to leave if I didn't want the more expensive option. The whole thing felt incredibly sleazy, and as they continued to push back and try to sell me, I felt very uneasy. I wanted to like this place, but I promise you I will never be back. Please Beware - Misleading Practices I scheduled a first-time consultation for what I expected to be a routine teeth cleaning under my Anthem Dental Insurance. During the consultation, I was told the cleaning could be completed the same day and would include plaque/tartar removal, a fluoride varnish, an antibiotic gel, and a gingival irrigation. This was presented as though it were the standard cleaning procedure that I requested that is fully covered by my plan. To my shock, I was billed $250. The actual cleaning (plaque/tartar removal called "prophylaxis") was covered, but the fluoride varnish, antibiotic gel, and gingival irrigation were not, and I was charged full price for all these "extra treatments". At every step, I clarified with the staff that I was there for a routine cleaning and confirmed they accepted my insurance. Yet, I was misled into unnecessary add-on procedures disguised as part of a normal cleaning. When I voiced my frustration, the dentist defended the charges, claiming the extras were "necessary" because they "promote remineralization." To me, it is clear this office relies on patient misunderstanding to push costly, non-essential treatments. To make matters worse, my housemate visited the very next day for his own routine cleaning and had the same experience. He was pressured into the same expensive add-ons--this time totaling $400. When he refused, the dentist suddenly offered a "first-time discount," which only further highlights how arbitrary and predatory these charges are. Yes, patients are responsible for understanding their insurance coverage, but it is unethical for a dental office to present optional treatments as routine, mislead patients, and exploit trust for profit. This experience left me feeling deceived and taken advantage of. I would not recommend this business. read more

The "doctor" is extremely pushy and even insulting, trying every tactic for a sale. Pretty sure something possibly illegal is going on too, since I saw some weird insurance charges that definitely did not take place. MESSAGE: STAY AWAY! I was a new patient for this dental facility, assigned by UCLA Health Insurance. I am a Board-Certified Surgeon, generally expecting a level of decent attention to my health needs, similar to what I give to my patients. I recommend that anyone interested in dental care AVOID this facility. My single visit to this office was the worst experience I have ever had with a dentist for the following reasons: 1- Wait times in the lobby for a scheduled appointment exceeded 30 minutes. I was not initially bothered by the 30-minute wait time. 2. I was taken to an examination room and kept there for TWO hours, waiting for the dentist. The dentist popped his head in two times and asked if I was there, then left. 3. He came in, without engaging in any personal conversation to get to know each other. Asked if I had any problems, proceeded to a scan of my teeth with a very impressive technology 4- Finally, after 2 1/2 hours and after the scan was done with another wait, the dentist finally came in. He quickly told me that: (a) I needed a deep cleaning (cost about $600+, my wife was quoted less costs from his partner earlier the same week for the same service), (b) I needed 4 of my crowns removed and replaced because the tooth was exposed, the result of gum recession. He warned me that if I didn't address this, I would probably lose those teeth. I checked with a dental professional colleague and was informed that the fear of losing my teeth was not a true reason to replace 4 of my crowns (c) The out-of-pocket costs were high without any real discussion with me. I felt like I was there to pump money into their facility. 5. I went to another dentist and requested that my records be transferred to them. When the new dentist asked for my records, they said they were too busy and could not do it. UNDER CALIFORNIA LAW, I AM ENTITLED TO MY DENTAL RECORDS. 6- I called the office today 7/2/2025 at 11:30am, and after a hellish time to get to what was supposed to be an operator to speak with me, I was sent to a messaging system asking me to wait on the line as they would answer me in moments. There was a message that: "My call wait time would be kept to a minimum. We expect the delay to be at a minimum. They will not keep me waiting any more than necessary. Please accept our apologies for keeping you waiting." There was a reference to their caring nature, that each caller is respected, and over and over again, that I would be speaking to a staff member in just a few moments. I HAVE WRITTEN THIS ENTIRE REVIEW WHILE I WAS ONLINE WAITING. AS I HAD THE DAY OFF, AFTER WAITING 40 MINUTES, I COOKED MY LUNCH AND ATE IT. IT IS NOW WELL IN EXCESS OF 1 1/2 HOURS, AND I STILL HAVEN'T GOTTEN ANYONE TO ANSWER MY CALL. MY GOAL FOR THE CALL WAS SIMPLE: TO GET MY DENTAL RECORDS, WHICH ARE MY RIGHT UNDER CALIFORNIA LAW. This place wasn't for our household. Felt it was an unprofessional dentist who provides minimal information on procedures. It feels like this dentist is only interested in how much money they can get you to spend or get from your insurance. Got a basic cleaning and I can brush my own teeth better. Beware they will tell you that your insurance covers things and will make it seem as if it is 100% covered when it is not. Facilities are clean and nice. Employees are also decent. There are much worse places. I just hope that there are better places. read more

Outstanding service. In and out very quickly, courteous and efficient staff. Perfect pricing. Dr Partovy has great bedside manner, is incredibly knowledgable and provides zero pressure for upsell. Finally, their whitening process is incredibly gentle and highly effective. It may be slightly less effective than the Zoom process but it's pain-free and inexpensive enough that 2 sessions are less expensive and more effective than 1 with the harsher whitening. Not for nothing, they have free parking on premises. In greater LA this feels like getting a $5 Amazon gift card as you're walking out of the door. Highly recommend. read more

Literally the worst experience I have ever had in healthcare. Dr. Partovy is an absolute shame to the dental industry and humanity as a whole. Scheduled a routine teeth cleaning because it looked nice and garnered good reviews (I wish i read through all of the reviews as the 1 star reviews seem genuine and the 5 star reviews appear to be "bought," but I digress....). I got there and, after waiting far too long...and then taking x rays...and waiting more.... instead of getting my teeth cleaned, Partovy takes me into an office where he plays me an infomercial for an invisalign-type of product. After the video plays, he says i need this, that it would cost thousands of dollars, etc. He also tells me i need a deep gum treatment, costing several hundred dollars. I politely decline, saying I do not want to pay either hundreds or thousands of dollars, and just wanted to get my teeth cleaned. He responds, "well, we can't clean your teeth until you get the gum treatment....to cure your gum disease." LOL OMFG. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!? Convenient that all of a sudden I have "gum disease" only after I decline his very expensive treatments. Even more convenient that one of the treatments is a prerequisite for teeth cleaning. INSANE. How unethical. How unprofessional. How disgusting. Making sh*t up to line your pockets instead of treating your patients? NO THANKS. Just stay away. Found an amazing dentist shortly thereafter who was kind and patient-centric and got an excellent cleaning. Everyone from the dentists to the dental assistants to the front desk have always been amazing to me. The dentist is not an easy place for me because I have such a small mouth and I know I'm not the easiest patient. Dr Tamara and Dr Partovy have always been patient and professional with me. After visiting for a cleaning the end of last year, the next appointment I was able to acquire wasn't until March. I had switched insurances, therefore I was advised to wait until the beginning of the year to continue receiving services. I realized the March appointment was for another cleaning rather than the work needing to be completed, and I informed the receptionist I was in pain. An appointment two weeks out from the initial March appointment was scheduled. That's a long time for a patient who has informed you they are in pain. I get to today's appointment five minutes early and it's requested that I take a seat. An gentleman comes in with the same appointment time as me, but eight minutes late. After sitting for approximately 10 minutes, the gentleman was asked to go to the back for service. I look at the receptionist and she replies, your room is being prepared. I stated, no thank you and left. I drove from Long Beach to Marina del Rey for such poor treatment. I don't pay for top tier dental insurance, and didn't drive for 45 minutes for such disrespect. I could not be more disappointed. While the folks that work there are generally friendly, this practice is incompetent. I left for the second time this morning without getting any treatment. I get nitrous for my cleanings - it just makes things go a lot easier! When finding a new dentist after moving from OC, I called them since they are close and they verified they offered nitrous for cleanings. I used their on-line form to book an appointment and submit all my forms. When I showed up for my appointment, they had no record of it. I explained I submitted everything on-line and got a confirmation. They explained their on-line system doesn't work. I wanted to ask, "So why exactly do you keep it on your website?" but elected not to. I filled out all the paperwork (again) and set an appointment for this morning. I got 3 different confirmations and a phone call making sure I would be there. I also confirmed via text they would have nitrous for me. I showed up this morning and I was supposed to be the first appointment. After waiting 18 minutes (not sure why) I was taken back. I asked if they had the nitrous ready and they told me they don't do that. At this point I went through all the facts in this review. Someone who appeared to be the office manager said, "I will go check our text messages." Forget the fact I was told twice on the phone and in-person that I would have nitrous, you would think, "Sorry - we really messed up" would be the right response. I walked out and will not be returning. I would say they are in the wrong business and should work at the DMV but even the DMV operates better these days.... read more

I went here for a couple of years, and I really like the dental hygienist, Dr. Tamara, and the front desk staff here. Dr. Tamara was great, honest, and I would have worked with this place if I wasn't exposed to the other half of the practice: Dr. Ray Partovy. Every time I have seen him, he always has an up-sell, finding something wrong, that needs to be taken care of immediately (pressure selling), and it never happens to be covered by insurance. The final straw was when I had a crown fall out, he looked, told me immediately it would need to be completely redesigned and there was no salvaging the tooth (even though it matches my mouth nearly perfect). Wanting to charge over $1200, he saw my apprehension and immediately lowered the price. read more
