I love going to the dentist here, which is something I never thought I'd say. All the hygienists are super nice and gentle. Dr. Homyak is always so great to talk to and very helpful. Their office is super nice, clean, modern, and full of natural light. She is very well connected, so if you have specialist needs (e.g., periodontal work) she can do it within her practice or refer you to the best of the best. Used to really love this dentistry however since the new ownership has taken place, I feel after 20 years I must find a new dentist. Have had the same experience as a few of the latest reviewers have had. It really feels like a bait & switch operation now. The lack (or rather, complete ABSENCE) of communication over the Delta Dental insurance contract, the attempts to upsell various crownwork and pressure to make appointments for them PRIOR to any communication about the insurance issues they're apparently having leads me to feel skeptical and uneasy. Also, the general attitude of the dentist team is very impersonal. Too bad Dr. Alison had to leave the state and Dr. Dave had to retire. Going to be difficult to replace them. I fear this dentistry has taken a MAJOR step back. What a shame. read more

Incredibly incompetent front desk staff. Went here before and they were fine. But the office switched doctors and didn't tell us that the new doctor was now out of network. So they charged us $260 for a routine teeth cleaning. This office can remind us via text and email to get our teeth cleaning but they can't send out a courtesy email that they switched networks and to check with our insurance before making an appointment? Incredibly poor business practices. If you don't drive and really need to walk to nearby dental office then sure, then make sure they're in your network. Coming from my 9 y/o daughter,"My dentist is the best ever!",y'all have to understand that this could be extremely difficult to a child. This procedure went painless and easy! The story: my daughter sustained a traumatic blow to her front tooth and injured a nerve.Therefore,root canal was necessary to save the permanent tooth. Dr. Dave Schwarting performed the procedure and he was very mellow and gentle. His approach to children was the best thing i have ever witnessed. I recently changed my dental services to this office and I do not regret it. I had my "every 6 months" routine cleaning once and I do love the service,location and the staff. Argh. Sorry, but I have to write a negative review. Enough things have gone wrong that Im switching. In truth, my wife already switched, and I was holding on but after today's mishap...I'm switching to her new dentist as well. Pros: I think the new owner Dr. Homyak is great. I think all the investments and upgrades to the office are fantastic. As a fellow business owner, who ran a successful business then sold it, there can be immediate bias and grief for new ownership. Dr Homyak has been really good the two times I've interacted with her. So big thumbs up there; she gets the star. Cons: Now to the rest: 1. When I was there back in the Spring (March 2023), I saw Dr America for a check up. She noticed I needed some work. That's fine. However, what she said was the issues (two cavities) had been there for some time. My q naturally was, well how come it wasnt spotted in my previous check up. She said: (1) that was under Dr Allison (previous owner) and may have been missed. I pointed out that I had already been seen by the new team and it was only 4 mos ago. So what I didnt like, was she didnt remember I had already been seen by them previously (maybe look at my chart...). Hey it happens, looks like it was just missed, and again they have new equipment ( new xray machine) so I get it, even though the cavities were apparently quite big. It was just how this was conveyed that I didnt like. (2) Dr. America then mentioned it's all fine , simply will need two fillings, and that for one of them, it was unlikely to be a root canal. I said understand, but what's the likelihood of a root canal. She then said 70%...this was odd to me. "Wait, you just said 70%, that's pretty high, how is that 'unlikely'". Then she said, I'll look again , "no its more like 50%." Point here: is I questioned it and then the % went down. On the plus side, I called Dr Homyak, and said hey this is not the level of communication and professionalism I expect...she agreed, apologized on her behalf and Dr. Homyak took care of the two fillings herself, and they've been fine. So again, credit to Dr. Homyak. It's what kept me to stay. 2. Today Sept 6th 2023, I was called because I have a cleaning this Sept 9th (its been 6 months since March 2023 visit). So, they call me tell me my insurance has expired...I said that's not correct. They tell me (a woman named Jackie) that no, they have fax confirmation...I have to tell them again that's not correct, nothing has changed since Jan 2022 - please, show me the confirmation, please check again. I even called my dental insurance provider and they confirmed; Im good... Again, I call back and tell them their records are wrong. She tells me "that's not possible :) ". Well after 5 back and forth calls, and this happening over 45min of my work day, it turns out: nope Del Rey Dental was wrong, and somehow they have my pre-Jan 2022 dental insurance listed. Of course I have a field day with this, because I have to point out to them that: I have been there 4-5 times since Jan 2022, how the heck are you mixing this up. You should be able to go back in your own records, see the dental work done (from cleanings to fillings) and verify. Finally I get a "Im just doing my job and what they tell me to do, somehow your old insurance was listed, and somehow your current insurance wasnt listed." Again, my insurance has been the same for 2 years, come Jan 2024... Just sloppy. I didnt even get an apology... Unfortunately I'm switching dentists. I genuinely wish Dr. Homyak well. read more

I have sensitive gums so going for my regular cleaning is kind of like signing up for torture. Not so at this place. Easily the least painful cleaning i've ever gotten anywhere. Everybody is friendly, easy parking, and a pleasant environment inside. Highly recommended! read more

Let's go to the dentist, said no one. Those were not words that I thought I would ever want to say to someone. That was until I discovered Del Rey Dental. I went in for a routine cleaning and then spoke to them about getting Invisalign. I had no idea at that time what I was in for. The process took a little over a year with numerous trips to the dentist. I honestly have never enjoyed myself so much going to the dentist. The staff is incredible. I have always been greeted with smiles and pleasantries. I am a person that is typically nervous about having my teeth worked on and yet I felt so comfortable here. I've never wrote a review about a dentist, nor have I ever wanted to until now. I can honestly say that I have enjoyed my experience at the dentist. Can you say that? I bet if you come here you will! This is the best dentist experience i have ever had. Starting with my first call, i asked if they took my insurance, they checked and said yes, then they gave me the "code numbers" so I could call my insurance and confirm. I did. Then I went in, and saw Dr Allison for my first appointment. She explained so much about my teeth and my gums! I had never been educated like that. She answered all my questions as well. Then the dental technician came in to do my cleaning. She was the nicest ever. Also, she cleaned my teeth and it didn't hurt at all. Overall my experience was as unreal as it sounds. Del Rey Dental was recently sold. I loved the previous dentist Dr. Dave and Dr. Allison. They were off the chart in stars. I feel extremely sad, but happy for them as they made the best choice at this time in their life. After 8 years of going here, I thought I would try the new dental team to give them a chance. They are very incompetent in insurance billing, over billing for things that should be covered per my insurance company. I received the worst hygentist visit I have ever had. They could not even take proper x-rays. Futhermore, all communication is in text. After 8 years of the best care, it now has become the worst ever. I am not impressed with the new dental staff or rotating dentist. I would not recommend my best friend or even a stranger to this dental office. read more

This is a horrible dental office. Since Dr Dave sold his practice to these new owners it has been a nightmare. Accounting is incredibly bad, getting bills that they say to ignore and then at a later date ask you to pay. Inefficient insufficient inefficient is being kind. I went in for a cleaning and check-up for the first time in several years and was very impressed! The front desk staff welcomed me and asked for me to fill out a few forms on an easy to use tablet. I was called in on time by the hygienist who was very sweet and explained her process. She even offered me the remote to watch Netflix. She was very thorough and my mouth felt wonderful afterwards! Next, one of Dr. Allison's technicians performed some x-rays on a super cool machine. All you do is bite down on a pad, keep your head still, and the camera rotates 100 degrees around your head. Super easy and no biting down on those super hard old school x-ray films. From there, I was taken to an exam room and Dr. Allison came in right way and gave me her "new patient" education. It was way more in-depth than the normal "you've got to brush and floss more, see you in six months" speech we're all used to. I've got to say, this really got me thinking about how important it is to take care of my teeth for my overall health. To wrap up my longest Yelp review ever, I highly recommend Del Rey Dental! I have full faith in the new owner/lead dentist. Dr Homyak was patient and compassionate in addition to solving my dental issue with minimal pain/minimal time. Story below. I have been having an issue that predates the new owner/management. In total I had to come in 6 times for this issue (4x during the transition, and 2x with dr homyak herself) and I can tell you the difference is night and day. The 2 times I saw Dr Homyak herself were faster, more comprehensive, less painful, and more educational than the 4 previous appointments. She quickly solved the issue that 2 other dentists could not. I've been seeing dentists for over 50 years and I can say without hesitation that this office has provided _the_ best care and service I've ever experienced. Everyone there is personable, makes eye contact and smiles readily and genuinely. Care options and billing are shared clearly and patiently before care is given. The office and rooms are brightly lit and the equipment looks brand new, each room has an elevated flat screen TV for the patients to watch soothing videos of vacation spots in HD - my favorite so far has ben the low flying aerial views of Venice. This is a modern dental office - they're able to do x-rays while you're in the chair and they have a milling machine onsite for creating crowns - during one of my visits, they scanned my teeth (3D) and took an impression for a crown and were able to mill and install the new crown w/in about 2 hours during the same visit. Amazing. I've had three appointments since early September of this year (2023) and each time I've been ushered to a room w/in minutes. My attending dentist and technician are Dr. Valentia and Jorge. So, so, so very very good, both of them. They are at once patient, attentive, quick, efficient and personable - Dr. V is a kick, I really enjoy her enthusiam and energy. They both leave me feeling as though I'm getting the best care possible. Despite this office being "out of network" for my employer's insurance, I have no qualms about the additional expense because the quality of care is just too good to pass up. Sorry to say that I will have to find another office, loved all the hygienists, unfortunately the new doctors are out of network for Delta Dental PPO. It's too much to pay out of pocket. My only complaint is that it would have been nice if the office had informed me that the new dentists were not in network and to expect more out of pocket expenses. Beware! New ownership is not the same as when Dr. Schwarting was there. I went in for cleaning and was charged an additional $74 for a "comprehensive oral exam" which never happened. Office is refusing to refund the overpayment but wants me to come back and they will apply it to the next visit. Highly unlikely. Great experience for my return visit to del Rey dental! My first visit was with Dr. Schwarting (no longer there), and this visit was with Dr Homyak. The dental assistant remembered who I was, we had great conversation, and she walked me through everything that she was doing. Dr Homyak came in for the inspection and was amazing.
