I came here twice this month after visiting the spa in the East Wind. I was pleased with my order both times. On my first visit I did the 3 course prix fixe. The onion soup was so good, and was a generous size. I had the steak for my main which was pretty good as well and the gelato for the dessert. Definitely felt is was a good value for the price. On my second visit I shared the fried calamari for an appetizer and got the grilled shrimp wrap for my main. Both were very good. read more

This was the worst restaurant I've ever eaten in. The prices were high and the food was tasteless. The onion soup was watery and full of bread. No melted cheese on top. The waitress highly recommended the chicken pot pie which looked like a flattened pancake. I have never seen such an unappealing pot pie. It was tasteless and watery. I won't mention other restaurants but Desmonds was the worst. I eat out twice a week. I don't go to inexpensive chain restaurants because I want good food. My opinion, don't go here. We randomly chose Desmonds for our day-after-Thanksgiving celebrations with our parents (her parents, his in-laws) and it was a FANTASTIC decision! We made reservations for 5 but arrived at 4:30. The manager and the staff were all SO friendly and got the joke we made about finding seats and we were so sorry we were "late" - it's always a treat when everyone gets it and plays along. The restaurant is beautiful inside and out and for one of the group who is a VERY picky eater, everything was delicious and the experience couldn't have been more perfect. Ate breakfast here after a spa day and overnight stay. It was a buffet, but honestly it wasn't even. One tray of eggs and hash browns, cereal, fruit and cheap mini muffins for $12.95pp? Def not worth it. The staff was nice but I've had better FREE breakfasts at chain hotels. The coffee was good, and the potatoes were good, and the staff was nice,those are the only reasons I gave it two stars. New years day, came here with my boyfriend. We made reservations in advance as the website suggested. It was a great brunch, I definitely had my fair share, and the wait staff was attentive. I came to stay for a couple of days for a "minimoon". We ate at Desmonds because it looks very nice and it had a feeling like you really were getting away. The buffalo wings were 100% perfect. As I was eating them I was planning to come back the next night for them. The service from our waitress was also 100%. The food came. The steak dish was great. I ordered the rigatoni and sausage dish. A few minutes into eating it I found a large hair intertwined into a sausage crumble. I knew it could not be mine because my hair was pulled back into a low bun, and the hair was cooked into the sausage because it was running right through the center of a crumble. I told the waitress, who took it back. The manager came over to tell me that the chef has short hair and the women wear hair nets so the hair didn't come from them and he's "not sure where it came from." This felt accusatory toward me but I didn't want to ruin the night because it was our first night out married so I just said "ok." The manager then acted like he was doing me some huge favor by taking it off the bill. I would say that is to be expected especially since the waitress took it, but gee thanks. I go to the Spa at East Wind often. I live around the corner and go there each month and have recommended it to many people. Tonight, after getting my daughter a hair cut at the salon, I took my kids up to Desmond's for a quick bite. When the bill came, I put down my credit card without thinking. The nice waiter came over to tell me quietly that it had been declined. Embarrassed, I gave him my debit card instead. He came back to tell me that the same message had come up when he tried it. I was completely humiliated-and confused... I knew I had plenty of money in that account. When I called my bank, the automated message said that my account was wiped clean. I was really scared and didn't know what to do. I gave the waiter all the cash I had (about $95) and my license (which declared my address around the corner) and explained how embarrassed I was, how nothing like this had ever happened to me, etc. He said he understood, but needed to speak to his manager. The manager came out and berated me. She told me that I wasn't to leave without paying. I told her that I completely understood her predicament, that I would never just leave, but I didn't know what the solution was; if she'd just let me go to my house (1 mile away), I'd give her the remainder in cash. She said she was going to call the cops. She said she was going to call the police over a $40 balance. I was able to call a friend (something I was trying to avoid because of the hour) who gave me the credit card information over the phone. I have never been treated with such utter disdain, especially from an establishment that I've frequented. I'm sorely disappointed and honestly horrified by my treatment this evening, and I just hope that no one else is ever treated in the same manner. read more

I went here as a special birthday weekend getaway with my boyfriend and we visited here twice at 2 different times. Here's my breakdown: Our first visit was for dinner and we made reservations for 8:30PM on a Saturday. The place was PACKED! The readily provide you a basket of a variety of breads and a side pasta dish to snack on. I ordered the house salad with a yummy house dressing, mussels in white wine sauce for an appetizer, a peppercorn crusted filet for the main course, and a slice of blueberry pie for dessert. They were very understanding and accommodating for one of my food allergies and the waitress was great from start to end. The food was reasonable priced, but extraordinarily prepared. We both loved the food we got, loved the ambiance, and had a great time. We then returned Sunday around 10AM for brunch which was absolutely spectacular! It was buffet style, but nothing like you would see at one of those chain buffets. Each tray of food was not only aesthetically pleasing, but everything was so fresh and flavorful. You had a nice mix of typical breakfast foods, lunch, meats, cheeses, sides, desserts, fruit. etc. We went back for like 3 plates haha. Overall, we had a great back-to-back experience at Desmond's and we definitely plan on eating there again when we return to East Wind. read more

The host is pompous and the service is rude. Came on time for our reservation, waited 5 minutes patiently only to have him come and say "give me a minute" when we gave our names. He started walking around aimlessly pretending like a was looking for something as he walked by about 6-7 empty tables. 5 minutes later came and seated the people right behind us. When he finally returned after another 5 minute wait and I asked why they were seated before us he said "Because they had a group of 12, if you want to come back with a group of 12 you would get seated." We stayed at the resort and had both brunch and dinner at Desmond's. I'm not usually a brunch buffet fan, but everything from the salads to the lox and eggs Benedict to the dessert was delicious. Maybe a bit too good because we were stuffed. At dinner the service couldn't have been better. We had baked clams, rigatoni Bolognese and filet Mignon. We ordered buffalo wings (classy on our end haha), calamari and two orders of the Chicken Papu entree. The waitress and chef worked together to help accommodate my girlfriend's mushroom allergy as they were able to make a separate sauce without mushrooms. I was in Desmonds a Saturday afternoon a week or so ago and meant to write a review but forgot. We had an early dinner and went to bar. Both the wait staff and bartender were so accommodating and nice. I had a steak special that was amazing. We went to bar and the bartender made me a special mint chocolate martini which was to die for. I don't remember names but the whole staff and energy of the restaurant was perfect. I live nearby, and Desmonds has become our go to spot for a celebration or just a nice night out. The dinner price fix menu is a great deal, although I always tell myself I will try something different I always order the filet. I don't know what they do to it, but it is so much better than any other place I've been to and it's always cooked perfectly. The experience is always a good one, never rushed. All I can say is Oh my God. The food is AMAZING! I had my wedding at the East Wind and I absolutely loved the catering! The food was phenomenal! We had our rehearsal dinner at Desmonds and everyone was very happy with their meals. Everything was amazing. I knew brunch was over at 2 we got there at 1250 and we're fast eaters. The waitress dropped the check before we got dessert and disappeared, at about 130. The only reason we didn't give 5 stars. I have been here for a shower but I recently heard about Sunday brunch. I just so happened to be off one Sunday which is rare and my boyfriend had been dying to come here for months now because he loves brunch and heard such great things. We drove an hour from Rockville centre to go all the way to brunch when our plan after was to head to college point. That's the only reason I was upset about the check and disappearing incident but a nice gentleman got us more coffee and whatever we needed. It's a big pricey but it's so worth it. We were so pleased that even at 1 pm everything was still so hot and fresh! The food was delicious. I love the omelet and fondue station. The carrot cake was out of this world and I don't even like carrot cake lol. I was disappointed by the cannoli cake but with all the food I had if that's the only thing that I didn't like I would say they did good. The place is beautiful. I wish they had offered us to sit outside because it looked so nice when we left and saw people out there. If I lived closer and had off work more Sunday's I would be here constantly. They don't have anything like this near me and with a little more advertising (I only knew cuz my cousin had her shower here) they would be unstoppable. Can't wait to go back for brunch. We went there for lunch, big group of people, about 19 members of my family. I had the skirt steak with roasted potatoes and vegetables plus a slice of cake for dessert. Everything was delicious and the service was excellent. I decided to try this place again after a disappointing experience a couple of years ago. I'm sorry I did. The atmosphere is lovely, but you can't eat atmosphere. I ordered the sliced steak panini, and the meat resembled nothing like the sliced steak I expected. It was very thinly pre-sliced beef that was over cooked, and it had no flavor. This is going to be a very mixed review. My wife and I came out to Eastwind for the evening to celebrate a birthday and Valentine's Day. Our overnight package included the prix fixe dinner at Desmonds. My shrimp cocktail appetizer and my wife's salad was excellent. My wife opted for the filet mignon and pay the upcharge and it was very good. I had the rigatoni and it was amazing. I usually don't order pasta out as it's easy to make at home but I was tired of chicken and fish so I thought I would give it a try. Very happy I did! Here's where the mixed part of the review is... there was some kind of argument/battle going on between the hostess (Bruna) and our waitress, Linda as we heard them exchange words in the middle of the dining room. The hostess seemed like we were inconveniencing her by approaching the hostess stand to check in for our reservation. No greeting, no smile, no nothing. Although our waitress made some great recommendations, she seemed angry and distracted. We asked for bread and she basically slammed it on the table.When she brought my pasta she never offered me fresh ground pepper, fresh parmesan cheese or red pepper flakes like I heard another waiter do for his guests a few tables away from us. At the end of the meal when she brought the included dessert, she never asked if we wanted coffee or tea with it. We then had to flag her down to order our coffees. When she finally brought the coffee there were no spoons accompanying the cups. I had then had to flag her down again to ask for spoons and when she brought them to us she proceeded to tell us how she had to hunt down spoons as there were none available and that people have been stealing them. That was just bizarre to me. Overall the food was excellent and well worth it. Just the service issues seemed strange as every staff person who we encountered at the Spa, the front desk, the cleaning staff was so friendly, it's just unfortunate that didn't extend to Desmond's. read more

I ate lunch here today with several coworkers. The group ordered a variety of sandwiches. The restaurant is attached to a hotel where people often have wedding receptions. The ambiance is nice, but not formal. Shirt with a collar and dockers will easily pass for lunch. Also, there are several reviews for this restaurant at Zagat and tripadvisor. The sandwiches are competent, and come with fast food style french fries and slaw. The sandwiches are fine, but not anything special. They are fairly priced at about nine dollars. The dressing on the slaw is white and creamy, not the clear vinegar you might be used to. Don't make a special trip to eat here, but don't hesitate to stop if you are hungry. read more

We went there to celebrate my wife's birthday with all of our grown children. We had eaten there many times so we were all looking forward to dinner. Most of us ordered the special which was a steak dinner and we were totally disappointed. Service was terrible and all we got was apologizes and the place was empty. The waitress tried her best but we waited forever for our food. When we got the food it was uneatable, the special which was steak was like shoe leather, and the potatoes were cold. At first no one wanted to complain and ruin the birthday night, but one bye one everyone said how bad the food was. I complained to the waitress and she said she would talk to her manager. When she came back we were offered a round of drinks!!!!! What about the bad food, that we didn't eat and $450.00 tab for the bad food. It is so unfortunate that this restaurant is in the East Wind Inn. The Inn and Spa are both fantastic. The restaurant service on the other hand is absolutely rude! We had a reservation for this morning and waited for 5 minutes for someone to even greet us at the hostess station. When the guy finally came over, he asked us our name and said 'give me a minute' and walks away. So unfriendly, no smile, no explanation, nothing. Ok.. Meanwhile we see several (understatement) empty tables and people are starting to line up behind us. Then he comes back, doesn't say anything to us, and asks the people behind us for their name and seats them immediately. Again no acknowledgment of us standing there, no apology, no explanation... nothing. Then he comes back and when we ask what is going on he gave us a nasty response of 'what can I help you with'. REALLY? Ten minutes after our reservation time, with empty tables, and puzzled looks on our faces and you are giving us an attitude?? Needless to say we immediately left and had brunch down the road. Brought the whole family to Desmonds for our adult son's birthday last year. My husband & I arrived first and the male host suggested we sit in the lobby. As others arrived, they were directed to join us. Apparently the host forgot to advise the woman who took over that we were there- sitting in full view - and she chastised us "for not checking in" (we all did)! First a teensy plate of macaroni with one piece of kale was on the table for all 7 people to share! Meals were average. We ordered desserts and told our waiter it was our son's birthday. He put cheesecake with a candle in front of our son, and immediately after we sang happy birthday, the waiter swiftly pulled the cake from my son saying he "borrowed it and it's really yours", passed it to another person. We ordered our Thanksgiving dinner thru East Winds Caterers (Desmond Restaurant) , as we had been doing for the last 3 years. I was having a total of 10 people for dinner, it was a first time Thanksgiving for 3 relatives from Peru. I noticed when we got there at 2:00 p.m. for the pick-up, no one waiting, usually there is a line for the pick up. First mistake, I requested no Cranberry compote, this they quickly corrected and added the additional potatoes as I requested. When I arrived home, found out they only gave me 9 dinner rolls, hard as rocks, (someone needed to share) still not upset by this I put some pillsbury rolls in the oven. Turkey time, my son started to cut the turkey, legs first, the turkey was raw, I don't mean pink, I mean BLOOD running out of it. I called the East winds, transferred to Desmonds, the young lady that answered said I had to speak to the manager, he asked me did I follow the reheating instructions, there were no instructions never had been in prior years, if I had to reheat everything I could have gone to Boston Market,the whole idea is that the dinner is ready to serve. Never once did he apologize or offer to make an adjustment or replace the bird, infact he asked "what did I expect him to do?". His big suggestion was to put the bird back in the oven at 350 for 30 minutes, which we had figured out before I contacted them. It took another hour and half beforee we were able to serve it. I was worried about everyone getting sick. I personally would never order from them again, also they just missed a wedding reception, my son just got engaged, thank God I never got around to suggesting the East Winds. read more
