Terrible experience at this salon. I do not recommend. I signed up to be a hair model and the " stylist" said my hair was too dry to perform the services. I read a woman's review about walking in to Dessange a wreck and walking out newly beautiful because of stylist Eli Barry- I fortunately heeded her advice and had the same wonderful experience !! I flew into DC from Boston this past Wednesday for an important celebration on Thursday- I looked like a madwoman and started searching for nearby salons- I made an appointment with Eli and asked him to clean me up- He was so professional, so sweet, so artistic, I felt I was in the hands of one of the best stylists I've ever been to (I'm 60 years old)- I wish I had taken a before and after photo but I left feeling fabulous- I wish Eli lived in Boston but I visit the area often so I'll definitely be visiting him again- Thank you, Eli! I love, love, loved the spa here. I've had excellent massages, body wraps and scrubs all at great prices (specials often). Last time I checked, they no longer had a massage therapist (I saw an Italian male who was excellent), so I'm hoping that changes. read more

I've been to different Dessange salons over the years in other countries, but this is the first time I came to this location. I had a Gilt Groupe deal for a 90 min massage and a steam room. Although massage was good, the towel they put on the face rest felt like a sand paper, so my face was all red after 90 mins. Also, I found it odd that at the place of this caliber, the women's locker room didn't have any products for hair, especially when they have a steam room and shower at their spa. The shower didn't have shampoo, just shower gel, the lounge didn't have as much as a comb. Now, I understand they want the clients to book a blow out, but that wasn't even offered. I left looking like a wet hot mess, and the front desk staff weren't even polite. I don't think I will be back. read more

There are very few hairdressers you can go to them and give them carte Blanche with your hair and love what they do. That person for me is Mano. Anytime I want to do something different with my hair I go to see him. He is a hair magician. He is the only one who was able to give me bangs that looked good all the time! ( not just after I leave the salon), he is also the only one who managed to make short hair work well for me, with very little maintenance. What I love about him is not only his great personality, artistic work, but also his ability to understand me as a client and give me a hairstyle that fits my lifestyle and accentuates my look.. Mouna, the aesthetician at Dessange Chevy Chase, is a hidden gem. I have been seeing her for facials and waxing since 2012. Mouna is not only kind and personable but highly skilled. She loves her work and it really shows. She shapes eyebrows with the eye of an artist; somehow her waxing process is not nearly as uncomfortable as it has felt in the hands of other aestheticians I have used elsewhere in the past. She is incredibly meticulous with both waxing and facials. Mouna puts thought into the type of facial that would most benefit her client, but is never pushy with her recommendations. She does a nice shoulder, face, and arm massage and offers microdermabrasion as an add-on--the outcome is terrific. The facial with Mouna is incredibly serene and luxurious, and the time goes fast. It is a huge treat. She obviously loves doing facials, and makes them rather a work of art. First experience at Dessange. I had an excellent facial+wax with the beautiful Mouna. I was welcomed and felt so relaxed the minute I stepped in. Mouna, first identified my skin type and then explained to me the treatment she recommended. She took her time and made me feel so well. This review is way overdue since I have been going to Mouna for more than 2 years. I moved to NYC, but still go back to Mouna for my brazilian waxing and eyebrow shaping, yup, she's that fantastic. I first started seeing Mouna after a recommendation here on Yelp and now she's the only person I will let wax me or touch my eyebrows. The most painless brazilian (as painless as a brazilian can get) I have ever had, I also prefer the whole process to happen as fast as possible, she knows that and gets the job done fast. Haircut with Wayne, wax with Manijeh. Both were absolutely amazing. This place is fantastic. Great customer service, gentle hair washers, quiet and peaceful waxing rooms. Wayne did such a great job. I have been looking for a stylist to give me exactly what I want at many different salons for many years. Dessange will be my new salon for sure, and Wayne will be my go to hair stylist. If you have long hair, especially long thick hair, Wayne can really take care of you. And his resume is amazing. Manijeh was quick and gentle. She gave me great tips on after-care and accommodated my lateness (due to the haircut taking a little too long. Like I said, I have VERY thick hair...). Five stars all around. read more

Jacques Dessange is a luxurious experience, but way overpriced. I've had good luck with waxing and manicures. But I paid $105 + $20 tip to Suzanne, to do a terrible haircut -- short on top and long on the bottom. Since I'm older, and my hair's getting thinner, I need precisely the opposite, which is what I'd asked for. I've now gone back to the sweet helpful Vietnamese woman who'd been cutting my hair for 20 years. Over that period, her prices ranged from $45-60; I paid her the $126 I'd paid Suzanne. As for coloring, Frank did a good job but not what I'd asked; I wanted some red highlights, and he said No. The second time, I got the red highlights, from a Hispanic woman whose name I'm ashamed to say I can't recall, and though she was very nice, she didn't use enough developer or something, and coarsened and dried my hair. I'm letting it go back to grey. So, save your money. read more

Wonderful experience. Might even be worth full price, but I just wouldn't pay $95 for mani / pedi and another $95 for a haircut. Thank you Gilt City for the coupon for $55 for each service. When I went for my scheduled M/P for some reason I had only been scheduled for a pedi, and the technician was late. Traffic. It happens. But they accommodated me and fortunately her next appointment cancelled. Mercedes gave me possibly the best M / P ever, so I was doubly delighted that they both lasted so long. The salon is beyond clean. New files unwrapped for each client. I kept mine. Very comfortable. I went back a few weeks later for the haircut. The shampoo chair massages while you're shampooed, and not just shampoo, but head massage. Lovely. Brushes are sterilized and encased in plastic before being used on the next client. Wonderful haircut, too, although my stylist asked me if I minded if he spoke to someone for a moment. More than five minutes later I was able to catch his attention. He came back and apologized, and explained that his next client wanted to discuss her haircut. I suggested that perhaps the best time to do that would be during her appointment, and the middle of my haircut with my hair drying was not. That time. But the haircut is lovely. If you're willing to spend that much on spa services, I highly recommend it. In the meantime, I'll look for more coupons. read more

She's thorough and pays close attention to detail. I've been going to Dessanges for the past ten years, and I am extremely loyal. Although I occasionally splurge on myself and get a mani-pedi or a massage (their exfoliation and self-tanner is really nice for summer), I mainly go for my hair. Nancy has been doing my color for years--and it's never been nicer. People actually stop me on the street and compliment me. I've had several stylists over the years, but my favorite is Jerome. He spends a great deal of time getting my hair really straight, which I love, and my bangs perfectly even. I always walk out feeling wonderful. My hair has never been better. read more

I've had 3 excellent haircuts from Wayne now, so I feel confident giving him 5 stars. I've been going to this salon off & on for a long time, but had mostly been seeing stylists downtown near my office in recent years. Last year I thought I'd give them a try again and was assigned to Wayne, and he is excellent. He is the only stylist I've found in DC who is as good as my favorite stylist at Bumble & Bumble back when I lived in NYC. He really knows hair, and makes mine look fabulous, naturally beautiful, healthy and flattering. For color, I like Frank for balayage. (I tried Nancy once and did not have a good experience.) Frank's work is careful and precise, and his color really holds up well. The salon itself is nice, an improvement on their previous location a little further south on Wisc. The all-white, sleek decor is soothing, and makes it easy to zone out and feel like you've had a little getaway from your normal routine. I've not tried any spa services here, so no intel on those. The prices are what you'd expect for cut & color in this area. And for the skill level of Wayne & Frank, I actually feel it's a very fair price, since I've paid more for less at some salons in Georgetown and downtown. read more

Mouna, the esthetician who gave me several services: a microdermabrasion facial, eyebrow and underarm waxing, was very professional and attentive. I have a very sensitive skin and this is the first time my face doesn't suffer from breakups afterwards. She was very gentle yet knows where to put the right amount of pressure when needed. The front desk is welcoming and the massage chairs in the shampoo rm is so relaxing but the stylists are arrogant and do not listen. I tried 2 different stylists, showed photos on ipad and both stylists cut my hair too short and did not come close to the basic style I asked for. I love the way the staff at Dessange treats me! All of them! It is more than just a hair salon or spa... It is a rejuvenating, exhilarating experience! I feel so well, appreciated and empowered when I go there and when I get out! My friends always find me "stunning" after I went to Dessange... I know most staff there and all are excellent. Franck, Eli, Jérôme, Manija, Naema, etc. Today I would like to recommend Danaya, the make-up artist, particularly. Dont miss that part of the service at Dessange! She is a magician and she is so nice! You just sit there in a state of bliss while she skillfully assesses your skin, eyes and face colors and shapes... She says nice things about you all the time and explains how she can - and will - make your eyes, your lips, your nose... look "like they deserve"... Yes - a bit expensive... I cannot go every day! Great services, but the appointment/payment desk makes it incredibly difficult to get an appointment. Almost every time I call, the receptionist seems overwhelmed and annoyed and puts me on hold for extensive periods, often ultimately disconnecting me. It would be better if one could just bypass the desk and make appointments online. Payment processing is also often slow, frequently causing me to be at Dessange more than the two hour period for free parking. read more

I had a very terrible experience with Dessange in Chevy Chase. It happened almost 3 weeks ago. I went in for chemical straightening and left with a pretty bad chemical burn on my scalp. I have had chemical straightening done in the past at another salon without incident. Dessange has not reimbursed me for my out-of-pocket costs, and they have been very slow to respond. Since leaving the salon, I have had to have 2 dermatologist appointments for the scalp burn and treated it with a prescription oil twice a day for 2 weeks and the hairs around the burned areas still remain "crispy." It was all very painful and frustrating, not to mention not so fun to walk around and live my life with a completely oiled head all day every day. This has been an almost 3 week ordeal and originally I heard from different people at Dessange (including a manager) that they will definitely reimburse me but now they are saying they will not reimburse me any out-of-pocket costs unless I sign a release of legal liability, which I am not comfortable doing because I don't know what will happen with my hair in the coming weeks. It is pretty unfair for a business to make you pay for an expensive hair treatment and instead of making your hair look nice, they burn your scalp and make you still pay for the treatment and all of the costs resulting from the burn as well. read more
