If you have ever been to Italy or if you have ever had dinner in a typical Italian family home you would know that they do like to take their time when it comes to eating. There is never a rush to cook or eat a meal! So what I would like to say about Desserts Plus is that if you are in a hurry to eat..........this is not the place for you! The wait staff and the chef will take their time to serve and cook your meal to perfection in a laid back and relaxed atmosphere. They are not worried about turning over tables like a typical Kelsey's Restaurant. Everything on the menu is amazing and the portions are so huge you will most likely be taking home a doggy bag and even though their desserts are incredible you will most likely not have any room left in your tummy for those yummy treats. The food is consistently amazing. The portions are huge and the left overs taste just as delicious. My friend and I go every few weeks on a weeknight when it's not too crowded and we don't have to wait at all for a table. Our food comes out in a timely manner. The WORST service I've ever received in my life! I've never written a negative review about a restaurant, but I genuinely felt like the staff was being straight up racist towards my boyfriend and I. Being a former hostess, I usually give restaurants the benefit of the doubt if the service wasn't that great (maybe the waiter was having a bad day, maybe they're new). It's never that serious for me to feel the need to complain to the manager or let alone write a review, but here I am. I went to this restaurant for the first (and last) time to celebrate my birthday with my boyfriend. We stood at the entrance waiting patiently to be seated for around 10-15 mins, and not one person even acknowledged us. A white couple came in well after us and got the attention of the host immediately. At first, I didn't think much of it because the restaurant was quite busy. But the first thing he so rudely asked was "Who came first?" while only making eye contact with the white couple. I was so confused because we were clearly standing in front of them and waited for way longer. The host was definitely signalling the couple to see if we budded them or something, which seemed rather ridiculous considering how patiently we were waiting. After a mini awkward silence of us looking around, my boyfriend said "umm us". The host just said "ok" and left to clean tables. While waiting, I noticed that before every guest the staff would clean off the table, remove the dirty table cloth, wipe down the table, and replace it with a new table cloth. But when the host seated my boyfriend and I, he wiped down the table and left it bare without a table cloth. I generally wouldn't care about whether we had a table cloth or not, but we were literally THE ONLY TABLE WITHOUT ONE. Even the couple who got seated after us got one! At this point I started to feel a little segregated from the rest of the restaurant. Being the ONLY brown couple in the restaurant, sitting at the ONLY table without a table cloth made us stick out even more. We tried to not think too much about it and proceeded to order. I ordered the angel hair pesto, and my boyfriend ordered the gnocchi. The food was alright; HUGE portions but a little too bland for my taste. The entire time we were eating, the waiter (different from the host) didn't even check on us once, but he kept going back and forth to the table literally right beside us. I later noticed that the rude man who seated us (the host) was sitting at a table by the bar doing some paper work. I couldn't help but think that this man is WAY TOO RUDE to be the potential owner of this restaurant. Even though the service was shit, we didn't immediately assume it was because they were being racist... until we got the bill. I thought I remembered reading on the menu that our dishes were $15.95 each. But our bill showed each dish as being $18.95 ($3 more). This wasn't a gratuity fee or taxes, the items we ordered were simply listed as different prices than what I remembered seeing on the menu. We were also the only table without a menu on hand, so I couldn't even double check before accusing them of charging us extra. My boyfriend didn't want to make the date worse so he just paid the bill anyways (WITH TIP). As we got up to leave, the rude host/potential owner sitting by the bar kept staring us down. WE LITERALLY DID NOTHING. NOT SURE WHAT HIS PROBLEM WAS. To make sure I wasn't just overthinking everything, my boyfriend checked their online menu to see the actual prices of our dishes and guess what, I WAS RIGHT. The dishes we ordered were only $15.95 each!! I was fuming, I've never felt so disrespected in my life, especially because we were courteous enough to tip on top of that. Us being brown HAD to be the only reason that the staff treated us so differently from everyone else. I don't like confrontation so we didn't even complain to the store or demand money back. But after telling my friends about my horrible birthday dinner, I felt the need to share our experience to prevent future discrimination. SAVE YOUR MONEY AND YOUR DIGNITY! NOT WORTH IT! read more

You won't find a better place for generously portioned home made Italian food in the GTA. Everything is delicious and you won't believe the portions you get for the price. Expect to wait in line for 15-30 minutes if you go for the dinner rush- but any great place is worth waiting for. read more

This restaurant is good but the waiter with the beard and tattoos is very rude, arrogant and shouldn't be working in a nice establishment like this. He assumes everyone is Italian and speaks down to them if not. I am Italian, but listening to him talk to the ladies beside me was incredible. He suggested that they have a Zeppole for dessert and when they didn't know what it was he acted like they were from another planet. "Don't you know San Giuseppe?" how would someone not Italian know that? Wouldn't split up our bill, gave us a hard time. Just straight out rude from the beginning to end. Not impressed. I have to start off by saying that I loved Desserts Plus. Their food is amazing and portions are fantastic. I loved the restaurant so much that I decided to host my wedding shower there. Upon booking Franca was very difficult to get a hold of. My maid of honour tried numerous times to contact them with no response back. I took matters into my own hands and decided to walk in one afternoon. I tracked down Franca the manager and discussed my upcoming shower. Everything seemed fine and I was thrilled. When asked the number of guests I said I wasn't sure. She wrote down 40 as a ballpark figure but I assured her it would likely be more. This past week I went into the restaurant to confirm final numbers. Much to my surprise I was told that I would be in the small room and to accommodate 60 people would be possible but may be tight. She told me that she had already booked another party of 70 in the larger room. A party for 1 year olds in fact....what an appropriate place for a child's party. That is besides the point. She tried her best to convince me that if the numbers decreased in the other party that I for sure would get the room I desired. I was promised a phone call the next day at noon. I never heard anything so I called and then was told I would receive a call at 3pm. That never happened. My aunt decided to call and again she gave us the run around. My fiancé saw the anger and stress in my voice and went in personally to speak to them. Franca told him she can't do anything and that she offered me the downstairs of the restaurant but I refused it. The downstairs that will certainly not seat 60 comfortably. I put a deposit down for a room upstairs. After arguing he decided to leave. Fed up I had my bridesmaid call and tell them we were cancelling our shower. To which she replied, "Oh Ok" Not one apology or anything. Its like we were wasting her time. Does Desserts Plus offer great food...yes...are the portions great...yes, but the customer service is terrible. Upon entering you are not greeted at the door and are left waiting around without any acknowledgement. That should have been my first indicator. We went to Desserts Plus for our anniversary dinner tonight and left very disappointed, I will never return. We went at 7:00 PM, and although we did not have a reservation, it did not look very busy in fact there were many empty tables. When the man greeted us he asked if we had a reservation. When I said no, he was annoyed and said to wait, he would see if he had a table for us. He returned a few minutes later and with great attitude said "no" I said "no what?" he replied no room for us tonight, that was it, no sorry, no offering of a later time. I had to ask him what time would we have to wait until, he replied 8:30. I then looked around at all the empty tables, including one that was just being cleaned off from a couple that had just left. He noticed me looking at these tables and stated these were for reserved customers. My issue is not so much that they had no availability but the attitude in which this man gave presented. He was very rude and made it seem like he didn't want us there. He offered no apology at not having a seat which is just common courtesy. I am in the Customer Service industry and if I treated a customer they way I was treated I would have been in deep trouble with my boss. The best part is I went on their Facebook page and wrote a comment which they deleted. I then wrote another one which was deleted. seems they only want to share their good reviews. I will never ever ever book any party with them ever again....me and my fiance want a party room upstairs the big side, Franka said not a problem it's open...then we asked her if we can do a deposit she said no no its too early within a month u drop a deposit...then we sat down with her to roughly talk about the menu...she said she would give us pasta meat veggies salad fish and desert with an open bar....within a few weeks we had dinner over there and we saw Franka and we asked her again about the deposit she said no no don't worry about it.......with a couple months we got our invites and we send them out....my fiance wanted to have a dj so he calls Franka up and ask her if she had the upstairs (small side) available she said that's your room...so pretty much she had us marked down for the small side upstairs for may 27 but we never asked for the small side we wanted the larger room...then we called her again she never returned our phone call....then the next day I got a hold of her and she's pretty much telling me how she never makes mistakes for 55 years....now how am I suppose to tell my family and friends about this....but they said we could have the large room for may 26 which is a Friday. ....then they said to me and fiance if u can find better go some where else...then me and fiance got hungry we had some pasta with calamari as soon we got the bill we saw the price wow full price we had to pay after they screw us over for our engagement we had to pay full price...not even a discount saying sorry or saying don't worry the food is on us....I will never book any party there again. read more

My family and I made reservations for New Years. I can understand the expensive prices especially on such a busy night. The food was average at best, my husband and I got the rib eye steak and salad on the side. The steak was very juicy and cooked the way we asked however, the only flavour we were getting from it was an intense charred flavour, nothing else. Something else I was NOT impressed with along with the average food was that there was a gratuity fee which, yes some restaurants include but the fee was 18% on an already $200 plus bill when standard tipping is 15%. Lastly, our service from our server was terrible. He looked like he did not want to be there (which he probably didn't considering it was New Years), he had given us a dirty look at one point and another server had rammed into my chair, enough to push me back slightly (I did not appreciate that being 3 months pregnant) and didn't even take a second glance or say sorry. This was our second time at Desserts Plus tonight and I thought it would have changed from the last time we were there. But NO! The food is very good, I can't complain. Both prices and portions are great. However, the service in this place is actually atrocious. There were five or six people working there this evening and not even one of them smiled or said hi the second we got in there. Almost as if we were intruding. Even the owners of the place did not acknowledge us. I've been working in the customer service industry for several years and this was absolutely disgusting to watch. I couldn't even eat my food because I was in awe. Even though the waitress saw that we had merely ice in our glasses she didn't even ask for a refill or anything. I had to go up and ask. Despite the fact that the food is good, I will never step foot in that place again, nor will I ever recommend it. If you are going to to open up a place that offers a service make sure that you keep up with the demands of that service. I understand that you guys are successful in your business but that only goes so far! When we left the waitresses were sitting on the floor outside having a cigarette and didn't say anything, they were too busy looking at their phones, even though my mother had said have a good night! That says a lot about a place. Anyway, if you are looking to go somewhere with good food and at a decent price Desserts Plus is the place to be, however, that comes at a price.
