Man oh man! I used to eat here in my 20s! This place ain't no Olive Garden! Dinner after a show and it was great. Yes I am trying to put aside all of my reminiscing to focus on what actually happened during this experience. Casual decor that is comfortable and yet just a hint below upscale. I wouldn't say you feel like you are at home, but pretty close. For our appetizer we had the grilled calamari which was very good and so much better without the breading. Not many places have this option since you have to be better at cooking it. I had a linguini supreme which comes with chicken and shrimp and plenty of them too. A well balanced dish with sun dried tomatoes and a light olive oil based pesto sauce that was very good. My wife had the shrimp and scallops special which looked creamy and delicious. And while both portions were large, she took half home while I cleaned my plate. A house Pinot Grigio accompanied my pasta but I think next time I may choose another option for the pairing. For dessert there was their house tiramisu which disappeared before my eyes (sorry no pic). The poor soaked lady fingers stood no chance. This place is great for families, friends or even larger parties. And it won't break the bank.

Very cozy place. My family and I are regulars. Always get the linguine paradise. Although the Rose penne, with goat cheese is tasty as well! I enjoy the olives and bread they give you before you order. Friendly staff. I highly recommended.

This was the first time here. The atmosphere is very nice and service good. Had seen this restaurant a lot especially on the Queensway, always thought I would try this place one day so when a deal came up on groupon - I couldn't resist. Took the family here today for our first 2015 dinner, overall it was good but some complaints are that its a bit pricey for the portion sizes you get. I ordered the soup of the day which was the seafood chowder, it was so so. ordered a Cesar salad which was, in my opinion, way too expensive for what you got. My daughter and I ordered the grill chicken on speggatti in cream sauce it was okay but again the portion just not worth the price. Too little for your dollar. My wife had the fusselli with smoked-Salmon which she enjoyed again only complaint is the portion size. Not enough food for your money. Overall, it's a nice place but a bit too expensive for the portion sizes.

This restaurant was very good. We went there for lunch and started with the calamari. It was very good, crispy and not too oily. The fried basil was a nice touch. After that we had 2 Italian panini sandwiches: the chicken and spicy sicilian. Both were very good, packed with veggies and meat and very filling. My only complaint: DO NOT ask them for Sangria. We asked and they said they could make it and we had some terrible mixture of bad wine and juice. Just undrinkable. We sat outside on their patio and that was enjoyable. The service was also good. Straight to the point but pleasant.

I really enjoyed the duck with a side of veggies. The veggies (as you can see in my photo) were super fresh and cooked perfectly. I've noticed that a side of veggies these days tend to be a few green beans with a few slices of carrots and they are always overcooked. My side veggies included carrots, green beans, broccoli, zucchini, bok choy, grilled red pepper and roasted/fried potato wedges. This place knows how to cook the duck breast so that its not tough at all. The sauce was yummelicious. The spicy caesar did not need any cool skewer of pickled items or funky seafood. That caesar stood on its own.

Great food. Try the linguini with shrimp and scallop. A sure winner! Accompanied with a glass of Pinot. Yummy

My family and I have been coming here for years, whether it is for a birthday, New Year's Eve, Mother's Day, Father's Day, entertaining friends or even when there is no occasion! The food is always superb! As soon as you are seatted, you are served with a glass of water. Then they give you a plate with a variety of bread from St. Remo Bakery and olives with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. My favourite bread is the one with hot peppers! They don't have a lot of it so make you sure that you call dibs on it! We start off with their fried calamari with spinach. Then our favourite entres are Linguine with Mixed Seafood, Risotto Shrimp, Duck and Linguine with Wild Mushrooms in Cream Sauce (not on their menu but they cook it for us). They have a variety of desserts but our all time favourite is their Tiramisu! The portions are big so be prepared to have a doggie bag. The service is very good especially from our server, Arbin and manager, Tipan. Arbin goes out if his way to ensure that you enjoy your dinner. Will I recommend this restaurant? Absolutely!!! Will we come back? A resounding, Yes!!!

Hidden gem. First time here and love their pasta. Tried the shrimp and scallop risotto. Creamy and rich with generous amount of juicy mushroom scallop and shrimp. The smoked salmon fusilli was very nice too. Had a good feeling about this restaurants starting with the bread and olives. We will definitely come back!

However, I got pulled into the planning details as a consultant, especially when it came down to finding a place to eat. I'm glad that they consulted me. I really should charge a fee... haha! My manager originally said that we should go to The Keg. I immediately shot that suggestion down because our vegetarians on our team would be miserable eating salad and bread. We needed a more inclusive eatery for lunch. We were doing pottery painting at Crock a Doodle. While one of my peers was setting things up with this store, the staffer suggested dining at 850 Degrees Pizzeria, which was across the street. I looked at the menu. The wood-fired pizzas looked incredible. It also had gluten-free and vegetarian options. Perfect! My friend and I had parked on a side street. Our manager parked behind us. We walked over to this eatery together. It's free parking on a side street. You can park on Lake Shore Boulevard, but it's paid parking until 6 pm. We were the first folks to arrive at noon. We had a reservation and got a long table for the ten of us. I had looked at the menu before coming here. I knew what pizza I'd be ordering. I also ordered an appetizer to share with others. I got the following items: - Shiny peach cider - Meatballs with garlic bread - Oh, Canada pizza My Shiny peach cider came out. I got a glass with ice. I poured my drink into the glass. The peach flavour was subtle. It tasted watered down. My friend to my right got the Shiny apple cider. She let me have a sip. It was yummy. I should have got that flavour instead. My meatballs with garlic bread came out next. OMG! This appetizer was incredible. The meatballs were beef. They were juicy. It was effortless cutting through them. You can also get vegan meatballs that are a mixture of chickpeas and mushrooms. The sauce was bright and fresh. The garlic bread was really pizza bread with garlic and butter on it. It was excellent dipping it into the sauce and eating it with the meatballs. I shared them with my manager and friend across from me. They loved them, too. Whenever I see a cracked egg on a pizza, I have to order it. So, I got the Oh, Canada. I love that each pizza has a Canadian-related backstory to its name. As a hockey fan, it was nice seeing Lord Stanley as a pizza. Oh, Canada had maple bacon, egg, fior di latte cheese, and tomato sauce. This pizza was excellent. The maple bacon was wonderful. It has a smokiness with the maple flavour. My egg was runny when I sliced through it. It was excellent with the tomato sauce. I highly recommend getting it if you love maple bacon and a runny egg. It felt like breakfast on a pizza. The crust had pillowy, chewy edges and was crispy underneath. Depending on the type of pizza, the base can be soggy because it's thin. I had a slice of my friend's Group of Seven pizza, which was a bit soggy. My Oh, Canada was fine. The Group of Seven pizza had goat cheese, tomatoes, spinach, roasted red peppers, olives, parmesan cheese, and fior di latte cheese. Maybe it got soggy because it had more cheese and toppings than my pizza. My manager got the Grand River pizza. It's essentially a wild, fancy version of a meat lover's pizza. It had spicy Calabrese salami, local ham, wild boar sausage, Niagara prosciutto, fior di latte cheese, and tomato sauce. I got to enjoy a slice. It had a spicy kick to it from the salami that was delightful. I loved the sausage that didn't taste gamey. The prosciutto looked like pretty ribbons on the pizza that were delicious, with a smokey subtle taste to them. Yum! You can get dairy-free cheese on request. Some of my colleagues opted for pasta. The beef ravioli and pappadelle di funghi looked fantastic. I need to return to get one or both of these dishes. They loved their food. I used the washroom before we left this eatery to do pottery painting. The women's washroom was clean. The downside was that the mirror was mounted rather low. I saw my midsection only through the mirror. If you're shorter, you'll be fine seeing your reflection without doing a squat. I thanked the man making all these pizzas in the kitchen. The pizzas were delicious. He appreciated the kind words. He worked so hard to get our pizzas to us in a timely manner and did it seamlessly. I had an excellent experience. You can order online and do takeout. I will need to remember to do that next time I'm in the office. I'll swing by and grab dinner here. (348)

Unfortunately, that was where the hospitality ended. After being seated, no one brought menus, greeted us, or even acknowledged that we were there. Nearly 30 minutes passed. Around 6:19 p.m., my husband tried to politely flag down a server walking by, but there was no response or acknowledgement. Aside from water being dropped at the table, no one came by to offer drinks, take an order, or explain the delay. That is especially disappointing when we were told from the outset that we had a limited window at the table. By the time anyone might have eventually taken our order, a large portion of that window had already been wasted...not by us, but by the complete lack of service. I don't enjoy leaving negative reviews for local restaurants. I understand how difficult the industry is right now, and I genuinely want small businesses to succeed. But there is a difference between being busy and not trying. A simple "We'll be right with you," menus dropped off, or an offer of drinks would have gone a long way. The space itself looked inviting, and the food coming out of the kitchen looked promising, which made the experience even more frustrating. This feels like a restaurant that may need more staffing, better floor management, or more attention to basic hospitality. We came in hoping for a pleasant family dinner with our well-behaved young daughter. Instead, we left feeling invisible. We will not be returning unless the restaurant takes meaningful steps to improve how guests are welcomed and served.

We decided to share a couple of pizzas, the Regina Margherita ("San Marzano, Fior Di Latte, Parmigiano, Evoo") and the 2312 Bloor St West (" Italian Prosciutto, Forest Mushrooms, Fior Di Latte, Basil, Truffle Ricotta"). They arrived to the table piping hot maybe 15 minutes later and sure looked appetizing. A couple of bites told me that they were definitely above average. The Margherita was especially tasty, with its delicious tomato sauce and above-average mozzarella. The 2312 Bloor didn't fare quite as well, as the Truffle Ricotta has such a strong, in-your-face flavor that essentially overshadows everything else. The other components were good, especially the crispy Italian Prosciutto, but they were lost beneath that overwhelming Truffle Ricotta. (Abandon the truffle part and keep the ricotta, is what I would suggest.) Overall, though, I really enjoyed the food (and service) at Gatto Wood Oven Pizza, and I'd certainly return to try some of their other offerings.
