Delicious tapas! So many yummy things on the menu, it was hard to choose what to share between 3 women. The outside patio area allows dogs and is private and quiet. Great for a sunny day in SF. We got the seafood paella (a little dry but otherwise tasty), artichoke flower (light and flavorful with a great topper), the veggie empanadas (AMAZING, would 100% get again), and a sushi special (fish was perfectly cut and seasoned- was so fresh! I always like cozy warm late night dinner place. We started our meal with a pitcher of sangria. It was so easy to drink that we almost finished it before our first dish arrived. Our first dish was croquettas. They were stuffed with Serrano ham and mushrooms and were made with a delicious, non-greasy batter. They were absolutely delicious and deserved a perfect score of 5/5. Next, we ordered seafood paella. The shellfish were overcooked and chewy, which was disappointing. The rice was good, and the crusty bottom was a nice touch, but overall, it was just okay. We gave it a score of 3/5. My friend's favorite dish was patatas bravas, so we had to get it. I'm not a fan of this dish, but we always have to get it just because. It was okay, but nothing special. We gave it a score of 4/5. The pork cheeks were the highlight of our meal. They were perfectly braised in red wine and served on a bed of mashed potatoes. I could have eaten this dish all by itself and been completely satisfied 5/5. The grilled octopus was also really good. It was cooked well and seasoned perfectly 5/5 As a way to feel better about our indulgent meal, we ordered a warm vegetable salad. There was only one other party and made me wonder if the restaurant is really popular dinner spot or not!! We got the pork cheeks, oxtail cannelloni, brussels sprouts, patata bravas and the squid ink paella. We ordered the paella right when we sat down since it takes at least 20 mins to make. The patata bravas could have been a little more crispy, the outside of each potato made the whole dish taste kind of stale. The pork cheeks was really good and soft. The oxtail cannelloni was interesting. The béchamel was kind of thick and chunky? so it had a weird texture. Without the béchamel, I really liked it. Then came the squid ink paella, I think the flavor was good but it was overly salty and really black compared to other squid ink dishes I've had. Wow ! This is such a delightful spot. We stopped in before a show at Brava. The back patio is darling and tucks in many tables: two top, four top and six top for all party sizes. The food was so good and shareable I forgot to take pictures. Service was attentive and kept us on time. My friend and I had a really good TGIF dinner at Destapas. We shared the anchovies, pear and arugula salad, octopus, paella mixta and basque cheesecake. For any Spanish tapas place, the octopus is really my test dish and this version was done really well - it was perfectly cooked and tender with a great smoky flavor. The anchovies were a great starter and the salad was just nice and refreshing for me (I've gotten very zealous about making sure I eat my greens). The paella mixta was our server's recommendation and it had a good amount of meat and bomba rice that was cooked just right (it had a little bit of crunch on the side, which I love since I am a fan of Korean bibimbap). The basque cheesecake was a great way to finish this meal. Service was good, fast and efficient. We were done in about an hour. The restaurant has a bit of casual elegance to it and is a lot cozier inside than what it looks from the outside. We came here on a weekend evening with a reservation and by the time we were heading out the place was pretty full (except for some spots at the bar). I liked the bacalao stuffed pepper dish, pork cheek, and the garlic shrimp(with an interesting smoky flavor) and overall the flavors were rich. Wine pour was generous! Service was a bit slow and we had to flag the servers down but nothing major. I was unimpressed with the cold cut platter, and wasn't a huge fan of their oxtail paella on the special menu but I am biased since I prefer seafood over meat on my paella. When we bit into our croquettes, we noticed they were NOT chorizo, and upon further investigation they were actually crab. This was definitely concerning, as shellfish is a major allergen and that mistake could seriously harm somebody. They ended up swapping out our dish, but TBH we liked the crab one better :/ The empanadas were great, definitely the best dish of the meal. We also ordered the paella. It was alight, but I probably wouldn't get it agin, as the flavor was a bit off for my preference. We went here to celebrate my son's birthday and we're so disappointed in the food. When we arrived, there was practically no other people sitting in the restaurant. During the time that we were there, the restaurant did fill up, but we started by ordering three pretty standard tapas: Patatas Bravas, Ham Croquettes and Beef Empañadas. We were told that any item on the menu that had a store next to it was the most popular two out of the three of those did, however we would never order any of them again. The empanadas did not seem fresh but rather appeared reheated and they were dry with little flavor and very little filling. The croquettes were overcooked on the outside and mushy (undercooked) on the inside and also lacked flavor. Finally, the patatas bravas were drenched in a very bitter red sauce that did not have a great flavor and totally overpowered the dish. We were so disappointed that we did not order any other dishes and just quickly finished our drinks, and left. I was surprised by the food taste and quality overall because the reviews for this restaurant had set my expectations high. Such a bummer. read more
