Starbelly is one of my favorite restaurants in the Castro; it's great for brunch and dinner. They usually participate in SF restaurant week and they offer drag brunch! The service is always great. Ambiance is cute and fun. You can show up casual or dress up. I love sitting in the covered outdoor back patio but they do have two tables full outside in the front if you have a dog. We came here the Monday after pride and it was packed despite the rest of the Castro being quiet. For dinner, i love their pizzas! We got the bacon one and corn one. Met friends for Brunch on Pride Sunday about 10:30 Had the patio to ourselves for quite a while, which was lovely. Love the patio, always great service and prompt service. The Brunch menu is pretty lean as brunch goes, so for future we shall stick to HH or early lunch or dinner. 2 of us had the 2 eggs, fingerling potatoes, bacon and toast - $15 Ea. 2 had the Chilaquiles - $17 Ea. Grateful the price for the 2 egg dish was so reasonable as it did not warrant being more expensive. First off, the food was not hot (once again) but warm. Toast (2 little pieces) we had to ask for butter. Fingerlings, about 8. Undercooked OE eggs 2 slivers of bacon. Because I do like this place, I just won't return for Brunch. read more

After completing a CPR training for my company, which ended sooner than I thought, I reached to a buddy in the area. I asked him if he wanted to grab a late lunch. Fortunately, he said yes. He suggested Starbelly. I hadn't eat there in several years and was glad to see they were still in business and still doing well. We both when with the chicken sandwich & fries. Man, was it good! The chicken was crispy on the outside and tender in the inside. Like Ric Flair would shout, WOOOH!!!! We complemented the sandwiches with beers. Of course we did. I've come back to this restaurant a handful of times since my initial review, and every time I've had a great experience. I love the brunch menu and ambiance, and dinner is always great. Most recently I had the mussels and was just so impressed with how tasty they were! The cocktails here are always just so perfect (and generous in size) and their music choice is always excellent. Waiter was friendly, food was great, a little pricey but it was good! We got the deviled eggs, chilaquiles? and the fried chicken sandwich! Everything was pretty solid, the fries that came with the sandwich were a little stale or something and could be a little crispier. Disappointing service at Starbelly this morning. I brought a friend after having a great experience a few weeks ago, but today fell completely flat. It took 15 minutes to order, and our request to pace the meal was ignored--mains arrived 5 minutes after starters, crowding the table all at once. We were never checked on again and had to flag someone down for the check. Good food can only carry a restaurant so far; bad service really ruins the experience. read more

This was my third or fourth visit to Starbelly on my latest visit. I used to live in the Bay Area and Starbelly was a great go to spot. They have really good food, can accommodate a larger party and drinks and service were always good. Living in London I was back home for a visit and my friend and I decided to go to Starbelly. We did not have a reservation and we had to wait about 15 minutes for a table which we were really lucky it was a short wait. Once seated they quickly took a drink order and then it took a long time to get our drinks and to order our food. Each order was taken by someone different and bit took a while to get. Food was good. That is really all I can say about it this time. The manager did recognize that our experience was less than they wanted to deliver and did come over and talk to us without us requesting. So kudos to him for his actions. I would absolutely go back to Starbelly based on my other experiences there and to give them another chance. So yes, go and enjoy their food, atmosphere, and delicious cocktails. read more

I found out about this place atvone of the Yelp Elite event and decided to bring my friends here. Great place for a dinner gathering with friends. They have outdoor patio in the back if you prefer the outdoor vibe. Everything tasted delicious. Just wish the salad size was bigger. This was the biggest size that we could get. First things first, make a reservation. This place gets busy every night for good reason, and walk-ins are a gamble you don't want to take. I booked a table for five about a week in advance, and we were seated immediately when we arrived. Zero stress. Our server was fantastic! He was friendly, attentive, and full of great recommendations that genuinely paid off throughout the meal. Here's everything we ordered for a table of five: Housemade Chicken Liver Pâté -- A perfect shareable starter. Generous portion of pâté served with bread, and it went around the table easily. Highly recommend starting here. Macaroni and Cheese -- Don't let the size fool you. It looks small but we split it five ways without issue. Super creamy and well executed! The kind of mac and cheese that reminds you why it's a classic. Fries -- Perfectly soft on the inside, crispy on the outside, and not overly salty. One order worked for us but if your group is hungry, get two. No notes otherwise. Grilled Broccolini -- One of the surprise favorites of the night. The lemon really comes through and elevates the whole dish. Split evenly across five people and everyone wanted more. New Starbelly Salad -- We got the large and it was worth it. Really fresh and flavorful and is a great complement to all the heartier dishes on the table. Starbelly Bacon Pizza -- Our favorite pizza of the night. Comes with six slices, which worked out perfectly for the group. Just get it. Salsa Bianca Pizza -- This one divided the table. It's loaded with toppings and has a pretty distinct flavor profile. Half the group loved it, half weren't into it (I was in the latter camp). If you like bold, unconventional pizzas it might be your thing, but personally I wouldn't reorder it. The menu is focused and well-curated, the music sets a great vibe, and the service is genuinely top notch. A really enjoyable dinner overall and one I'd absolutely do again. read more

The Brussel sprouts were absolutely delicious, we got two orders for the table. Also loved the chicken pate, accompanying bread was yummy too. Salmon entree was good, but quite small for the price. Not sure if I was starving but I feel like in general the portions were small. Street parking was a pain, as expected. Service was really slow unfortunately. Tldr: Pricey but good food and moody ambiance. Good for dinner dates. My friend and I had dinner here a few weeks ago. The food was amazing! The chicken liver pate was extremely buttery and was the star of the dinner. It was served with an onion jam (sweet), a dijon mustard, and toasted bread. It's a very agreeable pate as the chicken liver flavor wasn't that strong. The mussels were spicy and citrusy which helped cut through the fattier entrees we ordered. The rigatoni was definitely the "worst" of the three. While it tasted good, it wasn't particularly interesting and the portion size felt small. The people serving us were also very attentive and were very knowledgeable about each of the dishes. (I didn't know the jam was an onion jam till our waiter told us!) read more

Went here for dinner the other day with a few friends, and we had the most lovely experience. First off, our servers were super friendly and attentive to all our needs. We ordered quite the spread: the butternut squash soup, deviled eggs, brussels sprout pizza, roasted salmon, pork chop, and the mussels. Everything was so delicious. But the standouts were definitely the mussels and the brussel sprout pizza! The flavors were impeccable! Oh, we also got dessert. The cocktails and burrata pizza were the highlights for me (even though I ordered the salmon as my main, it wasn't super special). It had so many flavors going on: bitterness from the arugula, spicy from the jalapeño, savory from the pork belly, and freshness from the green goddess dressing. All the flavors worked well together! We also got the chicken liver ($16). I'm glad I tried it! It's not a dish I have often. The sweet marmalade and spicy mustard paired well with the savory pate. The service is quick and friendly. We got seated inside at a high top table, and it was rather noisy but we could still kind of hear each other in conversation. We got the Starbelly Salad and the Starbelly Bacon Pizza, and each of us got a Sangria. Sangria: 3/5, a white sangria that was very orange-dominant and sweet. A bit watered down for my taste, and I would have liked to have more variety of fruit included for different flavors. Starbelly Salad: 4/5, I loved the pickled onions and the light amount of dressing. It wasn't overdone and heavy, which I think some restaurants' signature salads can be. Starbelly Bacon Pizza: 3/5, I liked the addition of jalapeños and arugula to this! I wish the bacon was a little crispier, and the crust could have been a little more cooked. The staff were so friendly and warm! Even when our original waiter took their break, our new waitress was so nice and welcoming that we still felt very well taken care of. It's not hard to understand why this spot is held in such high regard amongst locals. It's also hard to understand how the food is so good, it's amazing. Then I ask myself this simple question, why can't all food be this good? This place has been on my list for years, now it's going to be on my regular rotation. With so many restaurants in the city it can take a while to try every spot I put on a list, especially when I have so many favorites. The Brunch here is amazing. And it's no one trick pony, everything looks amazing. The bloody Mary's have just the right amount of spice, however they are a little small. There's definitely a balancing act. I had the fried chicken sandwich, it's my go to brunch favorite these days, even over Chicken and waffles. Best fried chicken sandwich I've had in a while. We were able to order a pizza off menu for the kiddos, simple and delicious. I don't consider this place fancy, it's just great service and amazing food. We were here Friday night. The service was really good all around. But, the hostess/manager (I'm not sure which) noticed that we had not finished either dish and came over unprompted to inquire. We didn't care for either dish, we had just ordered poorly for our palates. She insisted on comping us our pizza, which we really appreciated. There's a big long table where everyone is crowding around and it seems that they do a lot of events / catering but it didn't make the restaurant feel home-y / welcome. I also thought all of the food that was provided was just okay, we got the pate, the broccoli, the burger, and the steak frites. I came here for a work dinner on a Thursday evening a couple weeks ago. We had a reservation and got seated on one of the longer tables towards the back of the restaurant. Our table was close to the door leading to the outdoor dining area, so it was a little chilly as people came in and out that door often throughout the evening. For starters, we ordered the deviled eggs and fries. The deviled eggs had a prominent tangy and tart flavor, which I didn't mind. I liked them. The fries were good. I liked that they came with three different sauces. Next, we ordered the chicories salad, grilled broccolini, and crispy brussel sprouts. The chicories salad was not my favorite. The combination of everything in the salad was interesting, just not my favorite dish of the night. However, the broccolini and brussel sprouts were delicious. They were perfectly seasoned, and the texture was also great. For pizzas, we ordered the starbelly bacon, delicata squash, and margherita. I really liked the delicata squash. I don't think I've ever had squash on pizza before, but I really enjoyed it. Lastly, we ordered the warm toffee cake, salted caramel pot de crème, and arborio rice pudding for dessert. They were all good, but my favorite would have to be either the warm toffee cake or arborio rice pudding. The arborio rice pudding probably looked the least appetizing out of three, but it was so good. I would recommend trying this. None of the desserts were overly sweet, which I appreciated. The ambiance was a 4, it had a nice outside patio openness to it. The service was a 3 star rating, for it not being busy they only checked in once while we were there but were nice. The place was clean, the food was good but nothing crazy special. I've been there a couple times for lunch and dinner and it fluctuates on a 3 to 4 star rating on flavor. But good enough to go again, the menu is pretty limited but not bad. We got the marinara pizza and added sausage, the sausage made it more flavorful, 3.5 rating, the burger with bacon was also a 3.5 rating outa 5 to us. Nothing stood out but fed two hungry guys on a lunch afternoon. Overall still cute place, give it a try, not crazy in prices, ambiance is different for lunch vs night time. I went to Starbelly for their monthly drag brunch event, "Bacon and Legs". WOW! These performers were so talented and engaging. What an amazing show. I can't wait to check it out again next month. FUN! The food was delicious and came out super fast. Try their corn pizza and chicken sandwich. YUM! Our server, STROBE was so nice, funny and if I may say... handsome. ZADDY! I've been coming here since they opened in 2009? I've finally decided that it would be best to give five stars for consistency throughout the years. I can't tell you how many times I have had the Starbelly Bacon. It is my most favorite pizza on the menu and perhaps in all of the Castro neighborhood. I never thought I would actually enjoy raw arugula as a pizza topping. Perhaps, the bacon makes the arugula palatable. The service is, over the years, the same: fast, friendly, and very attentive, which by extension includes the bartenders. The drink menu has changed over the years to cater to the fashion of the times, and I can say that the bartenders are good at what they do. I've never had a bad drink here! Depending on when you go, it can be very busy: Friday nights are loud and late Sunday afternoon is chill and quiet. The decor has changed little since they opened. The aesthetics of 2009 is holding up well. The seating at the patio is best during warm sunny afternoons on the weekend and the rare warm evenings. Otherwise, there really is no bad seat in the house or a bad meal to be had. read more
