If I could give 0 stars I would! I have never experienced such horrible customer service!!!! The charming ambience of the shop is a false mirage that hides deep rooted implicit bias. I'm not one to present a problem without a suggested solution so I'd like to recommend a mandatory cultural training and lesson on the detriment implicit bias can cause. I visited this yarn shop while on vacation and planned to spend a a significant amount to support a brick and mortar. Unfortunately, the associate was extremely rude and unwelcoming!! She did not speak nor acknowledge my husband and I when we entered the store. She also did not once offer assistance while we were shopping. She was very friendly to the older CAUCASIAN women and seemingly went out of her way to acknowledge and accommodate them. The entire time we were in the store no one asked us if we needed help or offered any assistance. We only received disdainful stares as if we were an unwelcomed nuisance. I was extremely excited to visit the Destin Yarn shop. It was my first trip back home in 15 years and I was itching to find some amazing yarn. We were in the shop for 35-45 minutes and we were never asked if we needed any assistance. My daughter goes to all the yarn stores I visit and is always encouraged to feel the yarns before buying. She was chastized twice for touching the yarn while we perused the different yarns available. I really wanted to ask the owner if there were any local indie dyers that she stocked because I felt that would be the perfect thing to have as a souvenir from our trip to Destin. Instead, I was offended by the rudeness and we left without purchasing a single item. I'm fairly certain I've never left a yarn shop empty handed before. read more

This is the best stocked LYS on the Emerald Coast (I should know, I've visited each and every one from P-cola to P C Beach)! I adore this shop. The owner is super helpful in answering questions about products or patterns. (I even saw someone walk in having problems with a stitch using a yarn they didn't purchase there, but the owner still helped.) I've called asking their hours and the owner offered to stay 30 mins past closing for me. They don't offer any local spun or dyed yarns, but you can find yummy, soft wools from almost any manufacturer. read more

I've stopped by twice, but haven't done any shopping...yet. The first time I stopped by I just wanted to check them out. The ladies there were all friendly and left me and my husband to wander and look around. The second time I stopped by was to beg for help. I had just finished a project and was concerned about sizing. They two women that were there were friendly and offered their opinions and suggestions. The two times I've been in have given me the opportunity to form a decent opinion on the shop: friendly employees, well-stocked with a wide variety of yarn, and prices that are comparable to other independent yarn stores I've visited. I would definitely recommend stopping by if you are needing yarn that is of higher quality than you'd find at the typical chain store. read more

Absolutely the best yarn shop that I've been to in years! I try to visit local yarn shops when I travel and this one tops my list in every way. Having flown into the North panhandle to spend a couple weeks with my sweetie, I ran out of yarn. So he insisted we find a yarn store where I could replenish for my remaining week here. Yarn Shop has a very tidy and friendly environment with a ton of selection. The proprietor was welcoming and helpful. I grabbed her solo Noro skein and waited out the rain, admiring the samples around the store and resisting temptation to buy a road project.. I agree with previous posters. A very friendly, and well stocked yarn shop. Prices are a bit high, but one has to consider the unique yarns they have in stock, and their overhead costs. Nonetheless, I purchased yarn for a baby blanket. Bring cash, or they charge you a percentage to use a CC. The two gals were very helpful, directing me to the DK Merino Wool I desired. Found something very unique, but again, at $20/skein, it's a bit pricey. Store was clean, comfortable, and colorful. In a very nice strip mall, there is ample free parking. read more

Was really looking forward to visiting a yarn shop while on vacation as I have a knitting business and was prepared to add to my stash. I also needed needles. The store, while void of any other customers, did seem to have a nice bit of yarn. However, we were asked to leave because we didn't have masks. I then saw they do have a Facebook post from Jan. 2021 (the most recent post) that says masks are required. Guess I should have checked that 10 month old post before driving 45 minutes. read more

Just made my annual beach trip visit to Destin Yarn Shop. As always, I wanted some of almost everything and had to make difficult choices. The owner introduced me to some gorgeous new yarn of hers and I loved all the colors, but forced myself to choose just one so I could buy other yarn as well. Got some good pattern suggestions and had a great time. I only wish I lived closer so I could visit more than once a year. If you're local, you're lucky. Just wear your mask and go often. Seeing all the wonderful colors of yarn, and models and patterns really gets your creative juices flowing. Can't wait 'till next year. read more

I stopped in for the first time at this shop today and I am SO HAPPY I did ! Carol the owner is so wonderfully helpful and knowledgeable, she made me so comfortable with asking questions and advice. Great selection of unique and interesting yarns. Carol has a keen eye for fashion and crafting. It is very well organized even though it's not large. There is a lot to look at, and I especially like the samples. Often yarn shops have few samples, small swatches and it just isn't inspiring. This is not the case here. I vacationed in Pensacola and this shop was 100% worth the drive to see. read more

So happy to have visited this wonderful LYS while in PCB. Carol was so helpful and enthusiastic about fiber craft. I was invited to "test drive" the new KP Nova Platina needles and was thrilled with their buttery smooth quickness while stitching. Prices are reasonable. I WILL BE BACK!!!! Beautiful tidy yarn offerings as well as a plentiful tool and accessories section. I found a much needed circular needle organizer and size markers. This is a very customer friendly shop with a good selection of quality yarns. Carol, the owner, is very helpful and friendly. If she doesn't have it, she'll get it for you at quite decent prices for the quality of products. We go there when we make our annual snowbird trip to Destin and my wife gets supplies for her current crochet project. I visit Destin maybe once or twice a year, and I always make a point to visit the local yarn shops. It's a highlight of my trip since I always save up to make a vacation yarn splurge. Sadly one closed this past year, so I was extra excited to visit Destin Yarns to feed my vacation stash. She is always friendly and usually has a great selection. I'm not a needy shopper as I typically gravitate immediately toward what I'm looking for. Yesterday as I visited this store, the owner was visiting with two other customers. I shopped around for 15 min or so, made my selections and was thrilled as they had exactly what I was looking for. They really do have a great selection. The problem is this: I waited as the counter for no less than 15-20 min. The owner was so engrossed in a conversation about the other yarn store that closed and the wares she inherited from their demise that she could not tear herself away to come to the register and ring me up. I ended up leaving my stash on the counter, walked right past the now seated conversation, and did not even get an acknowledgement on the way out the door. It was a really good stash, maybe a $150-200 sale. But I left without it, and I won't go back. Not only was the conversation in bad taste, it was seriously bad business. I can always order online... Or stop in Birmingham on the way home. read more

I visited in July and was pleasantly surprised to find every fiber type regardless of the heat!! Many beautiful models were displayed and I ended up buying yarn to make several of them. The owner is a delightful knitter who knows her stuff, and is very easy to talk with and went in depth to satisfy my curiosity or to answer questions. It is an amazing shop and the creative taste of the owner gives the atmosphere a fresh perspective to what I, a 'northerner,' expected to be " more of the same!" I recommend it highly! read more

I recently moved into the area and was in desperate need for a warm LYS atmosphere. So I drifted into Destin Yarn, hoping to have a chance to meet some other yarnies. Upon walking in, you see a giant table to the left, two comfy armchairs to the right and yarn all around! Carol, the owner, was very kind and showed me the store. It's not huge, but she carries a wonderful selection of hand-spun, hand-dyed and cottons. Carol even took the time to explain the "knit scene" in the area and gave me a list of knitting get-togethers. For example, on Thursday afternoons they have a knit night which is filled with lovely ladies who enjoyed sharing their stories and showing me their projects. I'm really pleased with the store and the people it attracts. It's just the type of LYS I was looking for!! Can't wait for next Thursday! read more

The woman that owns this shop is rude, arrogant and unfriendly. When we were there she was arrogant and condescending to us and other people in the store. It was cold and she wouldn't let one of her customers use her restroom. She insisted they use the outside unheated one. Her prices are to high and I will never shop there again. read more

Reviewing is something about which I am embarrassingly lax but...I must applaud this shop as well as the shop's owner! She went above and beyond to assist me in a variety of circumstances! She has a lovely personality and is very knowledgeable about yarns, patterns, accessories AND last but certainly not least - customer satisfaction! I've no idea what could have happened to cause the nasty, negative review posted, but that person wasn't in the Destin Yarn Shop!!! Maybe he or she was the real issue or maybe they're thinking of another shop elsewhere! I can only say it is one of the finest shops in a radius of a couple hundred miles for me and I will continue to drive the 80-some miles from my home to The Destin Yarn Shop! Highly recommend this shop and have no affiliation with anyone who owns or works there! They don't even know I'm posting and likely won't even remember me. That doesn't matter, but trying to damage someone's character and business does matter! Go shop there for all your yarn needs! You'll be efficiently, professionally and courteously handled!
