Upon entering, we saw that the tables were very close to each other and the place was decently filled.. We sat down and we're lucky that my girlfriend who sat on the booth side didn't need to go to the bathroom bc it was going to be hell to get out with how close the table settings were. We were started with bread but the bread was not very good. The table next to us even complained about the bread, how it didn't feel anywhere near fresh, and asked for it to be heated up even if it was by microwave. For a started I got the escargot and was a bit disappointed. It was okay but that was it. It was very very basic and lacked any depth of flavor. Almost like they expected the butter to carry the dish alone. I also got the Calmar which was was cooked well. perfect texture on the squid but flavor was light. The tomato sauce was a bit more runny than what I would've hoped since it didn't really stick to the squid as well as I would've hoped. The duck was decent but I wasn't a big fan of the sauce. It was juicy for the most part but some bits of it also felt dry and overcooked. For the shrimp, the presentation was nice to look at but as far as flavor went, it didn't do too much for me. The veggies tasted very bare bones. Not much seasoning to it , just tasted like plain steamed veggies. When we were done with our meal, they cleared our table but brought out fresh plates and silverware as if there was something else coming even though we didn't order anything else. They did not give us a menu asking if we wanted to get a dessert nor did they even say anything when they were putting down those plate. I was a bit confused wondering if they had a courtesy end of meal snack or something so my date and I waited and talked a bit wondering if something was going to happen. 10-15 minutes later, we still didn't have any server come over or say anything so I had to walk to the front just to pay my bill. I chose this restaurant to celebrate my son's birthday based on its reviews and interior. The atmosphere and décor truly evoke a classic French bistro; the dining room is small but very cozy. It is worth noting that the tables feature white tablecloths, creating a festive feel rather than the vibe of a cheap eatery. We ordered the snails, vol-au-vent, veal with risotto, and duck confit. Everything was delicious, and the main course portions were quite generous. For dessert, we had the apple tart and profiteroles with ice cream and chocolate sauce; we enjoyed both. On our visit we had; Soupe A L'Oignon Gratinee - delicious, overloaded with cheese. 10oz Angus Steak - a perfectly cooked, solid steak served with a peppercorn sauce. For $42 in NYC it's a steal. Such a lovely spot on a quiet tree -line, pretty authentic, gorgeous, New York City Midtown East street. The interior is very cozy, very nicely furnished and decorated. I don't want to sound like a cliché, but it was very Parisian. The food: I had the duck confit and my husband had the steak au poivre. We both enjoyed our meals .. both of us agreed that the mashed potatoes could have used some more salt. The salads that were on the plate were nicely dressed. My duck was perfectly executed and spiced. His steak was wonderful and the sauce plentiful. Server was very cool about not being rigid with the sides on the plate. She allowed us to have sides that were not supposed to accompany our meals -for example having mashed potatoes instead of the french fries with the steak. We did not have appetizers or desserts because who the hell EATS that much! Cost was just shy of $90 with tax and tip. This is really 4.5 stars. Wine list is lacking in cabernet sauvignon options (our favorite) or anything close. Incredibly charming and beautiful venue. I feel like I'm transported to Paris. The location is quite far east but the fact that it's located pretty far from everything makes it a hidden gem. Walking in, you're greeted with a dimly lit space that feels romantic and a night vibe. The service is really great and friendly. For foods, we decided to try a mix across the menu from Salade de Betterave (Roasted Beets with Pan Seared Goat Cheese and Chicory Salad), Poulet Roti Au Gratin Dauphinois (Pan Roasted Chicken Breast with Oven Potato Cheese Gratin), and Bucky's Burger. The portions at Deux Amis are quite large and the food was seasoned quite nicely. They do justice to the french cuisine and have everything in style - the menu isn't the largest which I do appreciate because then I don't have to browse for too too long. Have been here many times for a wonderful price fixed lunch. Just went last night for dinner. The service is ALWAYS polite and attentive. The food was fabulous for some things and mediocre for others. Fabulous: escargot, raspberry napolian dessert, house wines. Mediocre: hangar steak, just warm overdone fries. Many of the patrons are local. I will continue to come here because it is in my neighborhood and reasonably priced. The gazpacho was delicious, and the canard confit with port sauce was cooked to perfection. The chocolate souffle was burn and only partially risen, and for a dessert that requires 20 extra minutes, since they're made to order, was lacking in it's flavor and texture. The service was extremely slow, which is the reason for the 3 stars. We were given menus when we were sat, then waited 30 minutes to even order a glass of wine to start. The white paper table cloth covers, while understandable for easier clean up, seemed beneath the decor of the restaurant. Might come back, might not, but such slow service on a Monday night is pretty dismal, even if the savory dishes were delicious. read more

I selected the branzino fish which was in a light lemon garlic sauce and fine, the spinach was very salty and the large cut potatoes were a bit soggy and tasteless. Came on a weeknight for dinner. Reservations was easy online and no wait time. We opt to sit inside. The decor was nice . Tables were very close to each other but was separated by what looks like thinner plastic than a " clear shower curtain" . Felt claustrophobic. They could have taken out some tables. Escargot : one of the best escargot I had . Each compartment had 2-. 3 pieces of very tender and flavorful escargot soaked in fragrant evoo, parsley and garlic. My only complaint is the over toasted bread that seems to be a day old . It wasn't even crispy, but plainly hard. Soupe l' oignon - top was amazing , soup was a little brothy, very thin broth. Won't get it again. Terrine de fois gras Was amazing. Salad was generous, and the fois gras was a big piece. Melts in your mouth. Again, the toast were extremely hard. Three of us had an exceptionally well-prepared grilled salmon--a bit crispy on the outside and perfectly tender, but not overcooked, on the inside. Welll .. I live in ny and paris most of the time & have been here several times. I doubt I'll be returning after the rudeness of the female server yesterday . Such a shame as I wanted to go back before I return to Paris. First of all, we will see it all the way in the back when they were other seats more towards the front. Then we had so many different servers, we had no idea who is who. Secondly, they screwed up the order but then got it straight which is OK. The muscles were wonderful very plentiful I really wanted to try the escargot but the bus boy was the one who is taking the order and kind of didn't have an idea what it was. When the bill came, it was recently priced my friend gave the server his portion in cash and, mine was on a card. Normally when you return change you return all of it you don't feel entitled to keep money. Apparently, the female server felt entitled to keep all of it and didn't even say thank you I called her over to get the change back that she should've given and she just gave me a dirty look she didn't give it back about 20 minutes later. This definitely was a very sour ending. Oh well ..on the way out, I was asking for the manager and the bus boy was sort of smirking & spoke broken English , then he said he was the manager I told him what happened and all he said he'll talk to her. I highly doubt that will happen. It's a shame, because I really wanted to return here but I'm pretty sure she'll end up sitting in our food we definitely do not feel welcome there ever again read more

This place is exactly what you would expect and want from a classically French cuisine trained chef and his staff! Absolutely nothing was amiss and my dinner partners and I felt like we had walked in from a non-descript street into a small bustling French spot right off the streets of somewhere in Paris or south of France. We were wise to reserve our table online earlier that day and so thankful we did because the host was turning away diners at the door. Space is small but the wait staff and their long time patrons seemed to know the delicate dance to get around the many tables, chairs and bodies so we also followed suit. Once sat, our server quickly came over and greeted us. Everything, even down to the basket of warm crusty bread, was phenomenal. Their Foie Gras was so amazing that we had to order it twice, as well as the escargot. Ended the evening with creme caramel and we all cannot wait to be back here very soon!! read more

Absolutely delicious! Charming outside dining area. Excellent staff, servers fill up water glasses with beautiful ceramic pitchers. The bread was small and a little hard, hard to eat, definitely not representative of the rest of meal. We started off by ordering the beet salad to share, they split it up in two portions before serving. The presentation was elegant and the salad was delicious. Then my husband ordered the muscles and fries - him with the saffron cream sauce and I ordered the garlic wine sauce asked with no better. Fries were good, well seasoned.
