I love the mirrors and the menus written on them. The greeters were GREAT. Very welcoming and pleasant. We were seated quickly at a corner table with a great view of the restaurant. Our waitress was cordial, kinda business like. It took a while to get drinks ordered. They took our orders - I got the Branzino and my wife ordered the price fixe. The French onion soup she got as her first course was delightful! So rich, beautifully done!!! That was the high point. The branzino when they brought it out they spilled a decent bit of the sauce on my wife's foot (she was in sandals). No real apology and no one offered to give her anything to clean up. The branzino was ok. Nothing to write home about. My wife got the chicken - WAAAAAY over-fried. Dry as a bone. Mashed potatoes and hericots verts on her dish were delish! I wanted to have Boullabeise So I looked around, and of course, I found Marseille, which is where Boullabeise is from We arrived waitress was very friendly. We ordered escargot and their specialty. The waitress said that the kitchen staff was busy with a private party The escargot arrived really late and very cold. They put lemon in them, which I don't understand. Eventually, the Boullabeise arrived about an hour after sitting down. It was very clear to me that I watered down the broth because they were running out. It was tasteless. What a night! Incredible festive atmosphere to celebrate New Year's Eve. The restaurant offered an all-inclusive $120 Prix Fixe, which was essentially 4 courses and a sparkling wine send off. Our server (Ryan or Brian?) was amazing and very attentive. As was the entire team on this increasingly busy night. We drank Taittinger Prestige Champagne and Mullan Road Cabernet, but I enjoyed perusing their very French wine list. I enjoyed the sea scallops which were served in a leek fondue with black truffle jus. Very savory and paired well with Champagne. They offered a "mid" course which was the Winter Truffle Risoto. I enjoyed how the pine nuts gave it some extra texture. Atlantic Halibut was my main and it was perfectly tender and delicious with the potatoes and capers. The decor is just lovely! Low lights with red and gold tones, beautiful and relaxing. It is best to have a reservation for dinner! The bar is open seating and that's where we sat at a very small table. The escargot was delicious in the traditional hot dish with oil, garlic, and herbs. They don't serve them in the shells so I was a little disappointed. The octopus was okay with only a little chewiness to it. The wine list has all the options needed to go with dinner including a couple of Chablis. Our waiter was not in his element. We asked for a dry white wine and he brought us glasses of wine but we had to stop him and ask what it was as he walked away. He delivered our plates but never expanded on them, it was more drip off and walk away. We are from Texas and we are used to the oyster specials always been gulf oysters- I'm not super into them so don't ask me but the husband was ecstatic to find $1.50 non-gulf oysters and ended up ordering 3 dozen which I only ate a couple of lol. The service was great, attentive and friendly, and while I don't have much to say about the oysters we also got the soup of the day which was a delicious creamy mushroom soup, and I loved the free bread (this always adds a star in my book!), and the passion fruit cocktail! The 'snack' ended with free truffles too- all in all this felt like a fine dining experience with a neighborhood bar price tag (and friendliness). Nestled in the hustle of Hell's Kitchen, this place is a little slice of Paris without the jet lag or the judgmental pigeons. Let's start with the service: impeccable. Our waitress was so attentive, I briefly wondered if she could read minds. She helped us make decisions like a brunch therapist. (We're both hopelessly indecisive--choosing between two dishes feels like choosing a favorite child.) We kicked things off with two dirty martinis because brunch without cocktails is just a sad late breakfast. Pro tip: if you like your martinis dirty enough to require a PG-13 rating, this is your spot. Appetizer: Escargots en Persillade -- Yes, I ate snails. And yes, I'd do it again. Main Courses: I had the Croissant Florentine -- A buttery, flaky croissant topped with perfectly poached eggs and hollandaise so good it could start a cult. Dinner at Marseille's French Restaurant was absolutely fantastic from start to finish. We were warmly greeted by a friendly waiter from Louisiana who immediately made us feel welcome. We kicked things off with the happy hour $1.50 oysters--fresh, briny, and utterly sumptuous. Next came the kale, goat cheese and squash salad, which tasted incredibly fresh with a perfectly balanced dressing. Just when we thought it couldn't get better, dessert stole the show: the crème brûlée was rich and silky with real vanilla bean, and the New York-style cheesecake was just as delicious. Marseille stands high on my Hell's Kitchen go-to list. It faithfully reproduces the feeling of a Paris brasserie in Manhattan. The menu is perfect for a diverse group-meat, fish, shellfish, and vegetarian. I opted for a fantastic vegetable couscous as an entree. Perfect portion, great veggies, and spicy Moroccan tomato sauce rounded it out. My companions all opted for salmon. Again, a big hit with terrific vegetable sides. I had a mixed experience at Marseille. It's more like a 3.5 star. FOOD: 4/5 The escargot and the goat cheese appetizers were excellent. The duck was a little dry for me without as much flavor as I'd expected. I've had duck confit many times and felt like this was underwhelming. SERVICE: 3/5 The biggest issue we had is that there was a 25-30 minute delay between when the waitress took our drinks order and when she finally came back to take our food orders. I know this because we had a bar reservation afterwards and I kept checking the time. I tried to make eye contact with the waitress but she seemed to be running around with others getting the place settings for the large party next to us who arrived after we did. She didn't glace at our table even as she went past it. It was a bit frustrating to wait so long and we were definitely hungry. Our reservation was at 6:45 and she finally came to take our food orders around 7:30. I will note that she did apologize for the delay but I still think 25-30 minutes is far too long. On a more positive note, they didn't charge us for 2 mixed drinks that two people in our party got but didn't touch because they tasted too bitter (gin drinks). AMBIANCE: 4.5/5 Very cute spot and I liked that they had round tables for our party of 6. The dimmed the lights twice for some reason which seemed a little odd. At first I was a little disappointed because I thought that I was going to miss the happy hour oyster special because I didn't have a reservation and I arrived at 5:00 pm, half an hour before the end of the special. Then a guy, who appeared to be the manager, offered to seat me at a small table outside. The waiter, Jose, then also made me feel very welcome and he brought over the blue point oysters and the dipping sauce which was great and a delicious roll with garlic infused butter. So we'd been trying to squeeze in a visit here for their Oyster Happy Hour the entire time of our stay. On our final day we finally made it, and it was somewhat a disappointment. While multiple oyster types are available on the menu (six for $21) the happy hour special for $1.50 was only on blue points. I mean I get it, it's $1.50 but the seafood market at Chelsea Market had half price oysters of all of their offerings during their happy hour. But the rolls and butter were delicious. For dinner, I got my usual onion soup. Not too bad. For dinner I got the duck confit, which was very filling. My hubby got the fish special--it was melt in your mouth as our waiter described. Sat up at the bar for recent brunch. I have never had a better omelet in my life. I ordered the bread/pastry basket too and had plenty so I took some home. This meal and the service from the bartender was so good I went back again the next day. The omelet is served with a small side of arugula salad lightly dressed. It is very lively for brunch and there can be a wait so prepare for that. I got in quickly because I just sat up at the bar.
