What a night! Incredible festive atmosphere to celebrate New Year's Eve. The restaurant offered an all-inclusive $120 Prix Fixe, which was essentially 4 courses and a sparkling wine send off. Our server (Ryan or Brian?) was amazing and very attentive. As was the entire team on this increasingly busy night. We drank Taittinger Prestige Champagne and Mullan Road Cabernet, but I enjoyed perusing their very French wine list. I enjoyed the sea scallops which were served in a leek fondue with black truffle jus. Very savory and paired well with Champagne. They offered a "mid" course which was the Winter Truffle Risoto. I enjoyed how the pine nuts gave it some extra texture. Atlantic Halibut was my main and it was perfectly tender and delicious with the potatoes and capers. For dessert, the New York Cheesecake basically melted off of my fork, it was so good. Those were my selections, but it was honestly hard to choose! Looking forward to returning on another night.

The decor is just lovely! Low lights with red and gold tones, beautiful and relaxing. It is best to have a reservation for dinner! The bar is open seating and that's where we sat at a very small table. The escargot was delicious in the traditional hot dish with oil, garlic, and herbs. They don't serve them in the shells so I was a little disappointed. The octopus was okay with only a little chewiness to it. The wine list has all the options needed to go with dinner including a couple of Chablis. Our waiter was not in his element. We asked for a dry white wine and he brought us glasses of wine but we had to stop him and ask what it was as he walked away. He delivered our plates but never expanded on them, it was more drip off and walk away. The support staff with water was also slow on initial filling and refills as the water glasses got low.

Started with a makers mark manhattan and my lovely bride of 50 years has the lemon drop martini. Both wonderful and perfectly prepared by jJimmy the bartender. We sat at the bar and Jimmy made some great recommendations. He has been at Marseille for 23 years! Go Jimmy! They presented a sour dough roll rosemary /oil Very nice. Onto our escargot app which was terrific. Right combo of butter / garlic. I had the steak frites with fries. Fries fantastic and steak at medium rare was such an awesome experience. MK had short ribs also very good. Ok this place environment is dated but offerings are terrific! May not be pretty but a great place and have to tell you this is a place to go ! Also have extended restaurant week in summer. Crème brûlée and bubbles for desert! Complements of the house!

I picked this restaurant because I had wanted to bring mom somewhere special for restaurant week and the menu selection just sounded so delicious and high class. I definitely knew that I would be needing to order escargots because when in a French restaurant ~ most definitely did not disappoint!!! Herbaceous and lemony and paired with the baguette. Say no more! The apps to entrée to dessert were dishes I normally wouldn't make at home and the flavors were so intoxicating. Creamy , buttery, luscious, and for the desserts, not too sweet. But what was the sweetest and the cherry on top was our waitress, Sara She was so attentive, sweet and made the whole dinner experience so comforting, comfortable and so relaxing. If you get the opportunity to have her as your waitress, consider yourself BLESSED! Come check out Marseille! The atmosphere is sophisticated, charming and so inviting. You have to come try their food! I will be back even if it's not restaurant week!!

When I am in NYC for more than a day Marseille is a must. While the restaurant is spacious, it is the cozy bar that is perfectly delightful. On my most recent visit Matt was the well groomed old style bar keep that gave me the specials and prepared one of the house libations. The food is amazing and the duck pate is a must. NYC is filled with great dinning and Marseille after 22 years is STILL one of them.

Service was a 10/10 - the gentleman attending us did a fantastic job welcoming us despite my partner and I only being there for the steak frites deal. They served complimentary bread and butter that was delicious and herb-y. The steak was a great temperature. The place was also decorated nicely for a nice date night out

A Love Letter to Brunch (with a French Accent) Marseille is basically a teleportation device to France... just with more honking and fewer berets. Nestled in the hustle of Hell's Kitchen, this place is a little slice of Paris without the jet lag or the judgmental pigeons. I've popped into Marseille several times for a martini (okay, more than several), but a few Sundays ago, my fiancé and I decided to brunch like the classy adults we pretend to be--and wow, did we level up. Let's start with the service: impeccable. Our waitress was so attentive, I briefly wondered if she could read minds. She helped us make decisions like a brunch therapist. (We're both hopelessly indecisive--choosing between two dishes feels like choosing a favorite child.) We kicked things off with two dirty martinis because brunch without cocktails is just a sad late breakfast. Pro tip: if you like your martinis dirty enough to require a PG-13 rating, this is your spot. Appetizer: Escargots en Persillade -- Yes, I ate snails. And yes, I'd do it again. These little guys were swimming in a garlicky, herby butter situation that made me want to dip everything on the table in it--napkin included. Main Courses: I had the Croissant Florentine -- A buttery, flaky croissant topped with perfectly poached eggs and hollandaise so good it could start a cult. My fiancé had the Roast Turkey Baguette -- He said the bacon was "next level" and the sandwich "hit him right in the soul" (his words, not mine--but I agree). We split a side of fries that were crispy, golden, and seasoned by what I assume is a fry wizard in the back. Seriously, order the fries. You'll want to write them a thank-you note. The vibe? Very French bistro meets NYC buzz. It's always busy, so do yourself a favor and make a reservation unless you enjoy waiting while hangry. All in all, 10/10 would snail again. Can't wait to come back and eat my way through the rest of the menu. Merci, Marseille--brunch was magnifique!

Dinner at Marseille's French Restaurant was absolutely fantastic from start to finish. We were warmly greeted by a friendly waiter from Louisiana who immediately made us feel welcome. We kicked things off with the happy hour $1.50 oysters--fresh, briny, and utterly sumptuous. Next came the kale, goat cheese and squash salad, which tasted incredibly fresh with a perfectly balanced dressing. Just when we thought it couldn't get better, dessert stole the show: the crème brûlée was rich and silky with real vanilla bean, and the New York-style cheesecake was just as delicious. A truly memorable dining experience all around.

Exactly what we were looking for in a pre-Broadway show dinner spot. Service was quick and attentive, generously-sized portions, very good French cuisine. We enjoyed the quennelle (a lyonnaise specialty that is rarely on menus), NY Striploin steak frites, lamb shanks tagine, and shared a shrimp tempura beignets starter. Chef came out to our table to do the pour over the quenelle and checked in on the quenelle again, which we appreciated. The wine by the glass was served in individually-sized carafes, easily a 10 oz pour. Cosy interior.

This is one of our go to pre-show dinner spots. The warm goat cheese appetizer is delicious. The beets paired with it are so good! I enjoyed my grilled salmon and my sister loves getting the short rib. A visit to this restaurant is not complete without their crème brûlée. Already looking forward to a trip in the future to reorder all these items again!

How covered and/or heated is the outdoor dining now in winter? Is it fully enclosed? Thanks!

Horrible that restaurants do not say if outdoors with heating. I do not go there. i go only to places with outdoor heating. what is wrong with them???

Outside seating is located on the sidewalk or do they have a backyard garden?

    Sidewalk

    Does the restaurant allow BYOB?

No. It has a full bar.

How quick is the service? Can I get through a meal within an hour?

They are very used to serving the pre-theater crowd. Just tell them when you order that you need to be out by a certain time. You can also request the check at the time you are served.

I had a 7pm reservation, but was running late, and they were flexible and told me to come any time. Upon my arrival, I was seated by the piano. The pianist playing that night, Andrew Abrahamsen, was very talented. He played an eclectic mix of songs, including "I Will Survive," Disney's "When You Wish Upon a Star," and "Somewhere Over the Rainbow." As the night went on, he played Happy Birthday for me, and went on a 90s Disney Renaissance spree, playing songs including "Go the Distance" from Hercules, "Out There" from Hunchback of Notre Dame, "Beauty and the Beast," and "You've Got a Friend in Me" from Toy Story. Ordered black tiger shrimp for my entree. It smelled wonderful, and especially peppery once the waiter added pepper to it. The risotto the shrimp sat on was also very delicious. I ended up taking this to go, and it still tasted great later on! For dessert, I chose the lemon tart brûlée with raspberry sorbet. It came with "Happy Birthday" written on the plate with chocolate, and a candle on the sorbet. As always, the ambiance and decor is very beautiful, with portraits of Josephine Baker to honor the revolutionary badass woman. Thanks for the great birthday dinner, Chez Josephine!

I made a reservation to be safe, as many restaurants now ask if you did so. This place is quite packed every night so it was the way to go. I came here for dinner post showtime and my son and I over ordered but happily enjoyed everything. I think our eyes are way bigger than our stomachs. Starters: - French onion soup, au gratin, was perfect. Great onion profile and lots of it. Not overly salty so that was good. - Beef tartare, classic French bistro staple, must order this. The portion was quite generous and it was delicious. We couldn't stop eating it. The petite toasts were a nice accompaniment as well as the raddiccio salad - cheese board, IYKYK, I never met a cheese I didn't like. This board was matched with nice pairings. Think grapes, fig jam, and marcona almonds. The cheese were a classic French variety - bleu, comte and brie. For our entrees, my son opted for a sandwich and I got the steak. His croque Madame was really delicious. The bread, the ham, the baked cheese and the fried egg was so savory. Yummy. My steak was a sizeable portion but I purposely ordered the bigger ounces since I know we'd share. Fries are nice and skinny, perfectly seasoned. Our waiter was attentive and I asked for the table next to us given all the food I know we were getting. He was not sure if he could accommodate but I insisted he check with management. They came over and put it together for me. I appreciated that given a table for two, for how much we ordered, it'd never fit. Totally would return. If you like French food, this is a solid spot to try.

I went to the store accordingly. The young male Hispanic employee at the register refused to hand over my bag, insisting the pickup window didn't start until 5:15. All the bags were already packed and ready. There were no other customers in line. I tried to explain how the app works and that early pickup had been allowed here before, but he repeatedly cut me off. At one point I said "if you want to play by the book, so be it" -- meaning it as a neutral acknowledgment. He took offense, raised his voice, and kept repeating "I don't play, you play" in an increasingly hostile tone. I asked if he understood the expression. He just kept repeating "I don't play." When I asked to speak with a manager, he said there wasn't one. When I asked what a customer is supposed to do when there's a problem with an employee, he told me to come back tomorrow and talk to him. This was completely avoidable. The bags were ready. It was a 5-10 minute window, allowed by the app. The confrontation served no purpose. I noticed the review posted the day before mine mentions "poor customer service at the register" -- I suspect we encountered the same person. Maman has a good reputation worth protecting. I'd encourage management to review this interaction and make sure this particular staff is trained properly.

The frites were the best I've had - super thin and crunchy and the mussels were fantastic in a delicious white wine sauce and again a LARGE portion. We were left happy and full - the Bordeaux Blanc we ordered was perfect to go with it all.

While the French Onion soup was still a stand-out dish, the painfully slow service detracted. There appeared to be a single waitress working. I didn't notice during my first visit if there were multiple servers, but the first time I did hear the waiter advise another table that the kitchen was behind and there would be a wait for food. (This didn't affect me since on my first visit I only ordered soup.) Same thing happened this time, and there was a significant delay between our soup/salad course and entrees. We were told the kitchen was backed up. this is apparently the norm. For appetizers, the French onion soup was a gold star dish. My friend had the goat cheese salad which she said was also very good. The Chicken Cordon Bleu was good, and a hard-to-find dish in NYC. While eating our entrees, the server never checked on how things were or if we needed anything. Once finished, we sat there for a long time waiting for our plates to be cleared, and finally had to "announce" that we were done and request our dessert (as we had ordered the prix fixe menu). For dessert we ordered the Dame Blanche and Profiteroles. I would recommend neither. The ice cream (in both) was poor quality, crystallized and not creamy. A real shame. In all, the meal too 2.5 hours due to the slow service. The soup remains fantastic. I'm downgrading my review to recommend this spot only for soup and salad and not a full, hours-long meal. For that, it's 5 stars, for a full meal a middling 3.

The place was packed! The dinner items are so intriguing. Why did I love it so much? Because it was like art, but also delicious. I can highly recommend the tableside butter service. A giant cart with a mountain of butter is rolled to your area. In the most entertaining way, butter is scooped and prepared on a marble slab then served to you and yours with many little accoutrements. It was way too much for two people, but we loved every bite. The service was so good, the food fun and photogenic, and I loved all of the bites. I can't wait to come back.

The steak frites, Brussels sprouts, and Moroccan fried chicken, and Mac and cheese were fantastic. I saw people raving about the spicy Caesar but personally didn't get it--I thought it was fine. I thought the escargot were a bit bland. Le grand croissant is an amazingly decadent giant croissant filled with Nutella and accompanied with jam, pistachio, honey sides etc. it was great, but seemed like it should've been more a dessert option rather than an appetizer as it was extremely sweet. We booked this out for Mother's Day maybe two weeks in advance and there were decent times in the early afternoon, but I checked closer to the day and it was all booked out.
