Thanks yelpers! What a lovely experience. Started with their flavorful take on a cosmopolitan. Did the fixed price menu: lamb and beef sausages, steak frites, and chocolate torte. The absolute star of the evening was the steak. Unreal. Charming french cafe vibe. Perfect staff. Great evening before the theater.

Recently visited steak frites in NY and was immediately struck by the authentic French vibe, lead by the owner who clearly stays true to traditional French roots. From the warm welcome at the door to the final sip of dessert wine, it was a memorable dining experience. The Highlights: * Starters: We kicked things off with the Bread & Butter--the butter was incredibly smooth and rich. The French Onion Soup was exactly how it should be: traditional, not overly sweet, and deeply savory (absolutely delicious!). The Pâté was another standout; it's been a while since I've had pâté this good, and spreading it over the crusty bread was pure bliss. * Mussels: Often a hit-or-miss at many places but here every single mussel was fresh and high-quality. The sauce was so flavorful I wanted to dip everything in it. * The Main (Steak Frites): The steak was lean and packed with intense beefy flavor "great umami' I preferred cutting it into smaller bites to fully savor the texture and the classic French preparation. * Wine List: I was pleasantly surprised by the pricing. We enjoyed a bottle of Château Moya, which paired beautifully with the meal. It's rare to find such a well-priced, quality wine list in the city. * The Sweet Finish: Don't skip dessert! The Crème Brûlée is easily in my top 3 of all time. We also had the Chocolate Cake, which was rich and intense without being cloyingly sweet--exactly my preference. To top it off, our server recommended a dessert wine that wasn't too sugary, providing a perfectly balanced end to the night. Verdict: If you appreciate a restaurant that stays true to its heritage without any gimmicks, this is the place. Excellent service, a fantastic wine selection, and top-tier French comfort food.

They had an awesome prefixe that was a pretty good deal. For the app I chose the French Onion Soup which was massive and I couldnt finish it all because I knew those Steak Frites were coming. Sooooo good the seasoning on this steak was flames. Fries extra thin too and when you cut the steak and the juice and spices flooded the fries, that was too damn good. Creme Brulee for dessert which was really nice and light.

Really excellent food, cozy interior, great service. We had reservations at 5:45, and the restaurant was about 1/2 full at that time - we were seated quickly in the dining room. We had shrimp cocktail, a burger, roast chicken, the porterhouse dinner for 2. All were delicious. The chicken came with the creamiest buttery mashed potatoes, while the burger and steak came with crispy, skinny fries. The porterhouse also came with a well-dressed petite salad to share. We also had a chocolate ganache for dessert - so good! The prix fixe menu also looked amazing and a good value. Our water glasses were never empty, and the cocktails were tasty, too. Can't wait to come back the next time we're in NYC.

The bar offers the essentials, some good Bourbon and of course 1664 on tap

There are the big known steak houses all over NYC, and ever so often you run into this small neighborhood style restaurant that happens to delight. Steak Frites is just that kind of place. Walking in reminded me of the places I used to visit in Paris - away from the regular tourist traps, on a side alley, that had the nicest staff and amazing food. This is a small place - with a very intimate atmosphere. It was just me that night, so I grabbed the bar seat for my meal. The maître d' was pretty good and made me feel comfortable in the place immediately. Older gentleman, who seemed to be of French decent. The bartender knew what he was doing and fixed me a good boulevardier. They also had 1664 on tap - so I had to have it. Ordered the signature steak and frite dish done medium rare - a dry aged NY strip - and oh boy did they deliver. Seasoned perfectly with almost a nice crust. The center was still bloody and warm. The garlic herb butter on top just made the entire thing taste so much better. It's been a few days and I am still thinking about it - with my mouth watering. This is being added to the highlights recommend list for NYC. I will be back !!!

Cozy French bistro/bar. We were welcomed by a friendly French man who seated us early for our reservation. We sat in the room that has the bar. We liked it there , very casual. They have a great pre fix dinner and lunch menu and I highly recommended if you want to try a few items. The meal starts out with a very good bread basket with whipped butter. I had the French onion soup, hanger steak frites and the chocolate tart. My husband had the filet mignon from the main menu that had a delicious au povre sauce over it. The meat was cooked as we requested and the frites that came with our main course were crispy with just the right amount of salt. Our cocktails were good as well, we have one boulevardier and two vodka martinis. We felt the prices were reasonable, food portions were large and the service was polite and respectful. Our meal here was better than many of our meals in France last year. Great place and we would love to go back.

Fantastic value for the prix fixe lunch menu where you get a 3-course meal for $40 (though there are some up charges for the steak frites, though reasonable at $8 more). We sat by the bar and chatted with our bartender/server Lacy. She made some kick-@$$ cocktails, and I was blown away by the Raspberry Beret!!!! The steak came out perfectly executed at medium rare. And my partner's smoked salmon crepes were equally delicious. Oh and the Onion Soup, it was so filling that I could barely dig into my steak after finishing the soup. Highly recommended if you are looking for a great weekend brunch spot!

My friends and I came here for lunch after attending the NYC Marathon race expo over at the nearby Jacob Javits Convention Center. From the outside, it looked to be a fairly small restaurant. However, once inside, it was actually quite spacious. The decor was artsy. After looking over their menu, I went with their prix fixe lunch. Here were my choices: Hors d'oeuvre: Pâté de campagne Plat principaux: Steak frites (the steak option was $8 extra) Dessert: Chocolat ganache tarte Our server accidentally entered the salade verte instead of the pâté for me, but that was quickly rectified. This was a higher end French restaurant and the food presentation was great. Everything from the food to the service was fantastic.

Break For Eats @ Steak Frites If you're in Midtown and craving a solid steak and frites experience, this place hits the mark. The vibe is chill yet polished, with cool decor that sets the tone for an easygoing but elevated meal. The drink menu is lovely--lots of tempting options to pair with your steak--and the staff adds to the welcoming atmosphere. Two of us went for the pre-fixe steak and frites menu. My steak came out perfectly cooked, tender, and flavorful. My friend's was slightly overdone compared to his request, but still tasty. We all agreed that the frites were spot on--crispy, golden, and seasoned just right. Between the relaxing ambiance, good drinks, and delicious food, I'd definitely consider coming back next time I'm in the city and in the mood for steak.

A lovely room, not the least bit noisy. A great French brasserie menu. Terrific bread with room temp butter. A prize fixe menu with perfect choices. The Onion Soup was spot on. The hanger steak beefy, juicy and flavorful, perfectly cooked. Fries were crisp and plentiful. The dessert was a chocolate tart that was also perfect--not too sweet, great crust and cream on top. A letter perfect meal at a reasonable price for the quality. My friend's boneless strip was also perfect and the chocolate soufflé was epic. I have NO criticism. None. Under rated by half.

Steak frites is France's most classic meat-and-potatoes meal, a bistro staple, and the ultimate comfort food. The idea behind the dish is to dip the fries into the steak juices on the plate. Both Belgium and France claim a stake in the founding of this dish. While Belgium may have created it, it didn't become popularized until French chefs perfected it. Located on 9th Avenue in Hell's Kitchen, my partner and I were looking forward to dining at Steak Frites Bistro before our show. A reservation was easily made via Resy. Upon arrival as first-timers, we were transported to a cozy bistro in Paris. Greeted by the host, Pierre, a table was ready for us by the window inside their beautifully designed main dining room with a warm, inviting atmosphere that made us feel right at home with an authentic French vibe. They have an additional dining room called the Peacock Room that's charming, quaint, and quieter for private events. The menu changes seasonally and comprises all the authentic French bistro classics. We decided on the Lunch Pre-Fixe. As an appetizer, we decided on the Salade Verte and Soupe à l'Oignon Gratinée. For our main, we opted for the Steak Frites. For dessert, we got the Crème Brûlée and Chocolat Ganache Tarte. All were well prepared; flavors were incredible, tasty & simple in their execution. The service was exceptional: incredibly attentive, friendly, and professional throughout the entire meal. Our server was Agnes. This spot buzzes with theatergoers, locals, and food lovers drawn to the area's diverse dining scene, which we can recommend.

This quaint and cozy French bistro was just around the corner from our hotel. I did not look at any reviews before going, I just went with my gut. And my gut was right. We did the 3 course pre fixe dinner - had the onion soup, hanger steak and cream brûlée. Amazing! Food and service were superb. And let's not forget the Lavender 75 cocktail which elevated the experience. This dinner was my last during my NYC visit and it was a memorable one.

The mint Moroccan tea gave the drink a cool, refreshing taste on every sip. I also tried the Silver Screen, the closest drink I could find to an old fashioned. The bar seating was plentiful and comfortable. There is plenty of space for people to stand behind the bar or a high top tables enjoying happy hour after work. If you go at 4:30 or 5, it's a bit calmer as the after work crowd trickles in. And as the evening went on, it started to get more and more packed, and it became a really lively vibe. After my friend left for another function, I stuck around a little bit longer for a little solo dinner. I had a glass of Prosecco off the happy hour menu followed by a dirty martini, and I did request to look at their full dinner menu because there was a couple items that I wanted to try. I wanted to try the duck Ragu and halloumi cheese, both of which were absolutely fantastic. The halloumi cheese was perfectly grilled and flavorful, and the duck Ragu was very comforting. I highly recommend both dishes. I ended up chatting with a woman sitting next to me who happened to work with select apertivo, and next thing I know one of the bartenders handed me a lovely bright cocktail to try on the house. It was a refreshing bubbly Barlume spritz that I'll definitely have to get again next time. Overall, I had a really great time at Barlume. The service was excellent from the servers and the bartenders, and they were all very attentive, personable and friendly throughout the evening. Did you know this is where the Beecher's used to be?! RIP, I miss their Mac n cheese.... the vibe is completely different now (think extravagant Mediterranean vibes, it's very instagram-mable with the beautiful bar area). I had made a reservation for 5:30 (again, life with a baby is very different)- we arrived early but the staff were very gracious and were able to get us seated. They seated us in a side alcove area where they had cushioned seating, which was very helpful. What we Ordered: Drinks: Barlume Spritz and Hibiscus Mule (N/A cocktail)- drinks were good, nothing too special but we appreciated the cute stirrers Appetizer: Halloumi- grilled halloumi with roasted eggplant puree. The saltiness of the halloumi went so well with the creaminess of the eggplant. (Baby liked the eggplant puree too hah) Entrees: Lobster Arrabiatta and Duck Ragu and Truffle Pizza. My husband got the lobster arrabiatta and was raving about how delicious it was. He said it was the perfect level of spice. My duck ragu was served with busiate (a corkscrew shaped pasta) which I thought 'trapped' the sauce perfectly so you get a nice saucy bite each time. Pasta was perfectly al dente- my one gripe is that I felt the duck ragu was a bit too salty, which even managed to overpower the tomato flavor. We shared the truffle pizza, which came topped off with stracciatella, porcini mushrooms and shaved truffles. I liked the porcini mushrooms on the pizza, this was a first for me. For dessert (which we had to gobble down quickly because baby was starting to get fussy) we got the pistachio cake. SAVE SPACE IN YOUR STOMACH FOR THIS ONE!!! This was my favorite in the whole meal, the kataifi gives it that wonderful crumbliness and it went soooo well with the mango sorbet that's served with it. Recommend for a nice dinner with friends or a cool place to grab drinks! 4.5 stars

It's a small area with the tables pretty close together. We were given a table in the far corner, which was perfect for comfort and looking out at the restaurant. Two of us each ordered a glass of house wine, which were "ok." We opted for the Boqueria Experience, which is $65 per person and includes a variety of chef-selected tapas, a paella and an order of the restaurant's special JAMÓN IBÉRICO DE BELLOTA, which is described on the charcuterie menu as aged 48 months, with deep marbling, rich and nutty flavor. We enjoyed most of the tapas, including the potatoes, the beef/lamb balls, the salad and bruschetta. The croquettes were "ok" with the heavy aeoli masking some of the flavor. The seafood paella was good and was different from ones I've had in the past, with the caramelized layer on the bottom. Yum. Honestly, none of us was a big fan of the Jamon Iberico de Bellota. I'm sure it's special and luxurious, but we found it not to have much flavor. Frankly, it was a big disappointment for us. The service was beyond excellent. We were very pleased with the timing of the presentation of the meal, the superb water service and the general enthusiasm and pleasantness of the Staff. We will come back and try different items on the ala carte menu. I thought there would be more seafood and meat tapas offerings in the "Experience". Instead, it was a lot of cheese, vegetables, dates and bread. Although $65 per person likely was a good value for what we got, I think the tapas items were heavy on the lower cost tapas and that it wasn't a true top-of-the-line "Experience". A seafood dish or even a chicken dish (chicken wings) instead of one of the two croquette offerings would have helped.
