BLUF: Place to come once and say you did. Food (3/5): I'm not even sure what I ate. Pickles on pickles on pickles. The neon leprechaun cum on my dog & pickles was... gross. I couldn't finish mine. The fries were amazing. The other dogs we got were delicious. My stomach did NOT agree with me after, but it was worth it. Service (5/5): Quick & limited interaction. You can order with a human or just use their kiosk. The kiosk was easy, had photos, and made it easy to customize items. Ambiance (5/5): Hole-in-the-wall place. Graffiti on the walls and sticky tables. It's your typical dive-eatery. No parking.
Front desk at our hotel recommended this place and it was closer to try this than Portillo's. Small space with ordering at the counter in the back or a kiosk for self order. Only a few 4 foot person tables and some high top for 2. No bathroom. Closest one is Pete's around the corner at the end of the next block. 5/5 bucket of fries w/cheese. The fries were soft and super flavorful. Not crispy if that's your kind of thing. The nacho cheese was on the side and warm and tasty. They gave us 2 containers for one order which i appreciated. 5/5 it's not a corn dawg with cotija cheese and corn. My fave one. Very flavorful. The hot dog itself was also delicious. 4/5 Chicago dawg - got the small size which was perfect since we sampled so much. 4/5 hot chile cheddar dawg - super cheesy and added onions. My second fav. 4.5/5 Italian beef - wet with hot jardiane (sp). The peppers were spicy but really good. It's a pretty large serving. 5/5 caramel salty pretzel shake - the pretzel bits were a perfect salty mix. Pricing was very reasonable! I'd come back again for the not your corn dawg and shake!
We had to get our Chicago Dogs while in Chicago, and Devil Dawgs in Printers Row presented itself. (Feb 2026) We were lucky during early afternoon on a Saturday (Feb 2026) to get in before a mid-afternoon rush. We got our orders in at the register, and only had a few minutes wait. The dogs are Official Vienna Beef, of course. They use the longer narrower dogs, not the plumper ones. The toppings are traditional: genuine sport peppers, genuine neon relish, dill pickle spears, chopped onions, fresh tomatoes, celery salt. It's a great bright tart juicy savory combination of crunchy flavors. Note: The buns had no poppy seeds. The fries were hot and tender and added rich flavors. Devil Dawgs has a great divey look. The staff are great. The food is great. This place is a treasure.
Fantastic! I thought I was Team Portillo's but I have officially converted to Team Devil Dawgs! Wow!!! Sooooooo good! I had the Big Chicago dog and it was bursting with flavor. The high quality Vienna beef dog had the nice snap I was looking for. All the seasonings and toppings blended together perfectly. Each bite was an explosion of fun! Also, the vibe here is really cool, and feels like a party. The decor is colorful, vibrant, and funny. Good music playing too. I love a place with personality. Lots of amusing hot dog art, and even some art on the ceiling. All of the tables were very clean. Excellent and fast service. I also appreciate that they have easy kiosks to order from. This is a cashless place. A wide variety of menu items. In addition to hot dogs, they have burgers, fries, chicken sandwiches, cheese curds, vegan options and more. I gotta try a milkshake next time. I'll definitely be back!
Was getting lunch before heading to the airport. I got there right at 12pm on a Thursday. Ordered/paid on the kiosk. I got my food in about 5min. It wasn't super busy when I walked in but a few mins later it started getting packed while I sat and ate. So maybe go in BEFORE 12:05pm haha. Devil Dawgs hit the spot! I got the regular sized Chicago dawg and fries with a side of cheese sauce. The hotdog was pretty good, I've never had one Chicago style before. The fries were fresh, hand cut, hot and salty! All this plus a fountain drink +tax&tip came out to $18.27.
Continuing alphabet series representing 2021 is D is for Devil Dawgs. In September 2021, I was on a Chicago vacation. After Chicago architecture boat tour and before seeing the White Sox, I met up with my friend who arrived a day later than I did. We went to an early dinner before White Sox at Devil Dawgs as getting a Chicago hot dog is an iconic thing to do plus eating at White Sox would be a ripoff. Devil Dawgs has a wide variety of hot dogs with various flavors. For me, I generally eat hot dogs plain. I don't like ketchup, mustard, relish, onions, etc. I do like a chili dog with or without cheese. Restaurant was a bit of a dive, but the hot dog was good. I messed up on the order as none of the hot dogs were exactly what I wanted, but I realized I messed up on the order. They didn't refund; so I just bought another hot dog that I had intended on getting. I ate the one I messed up on, but I enjoyed in spite of having to pick off onions or whatever was the case. Staff was cordial but not overly friendly either. Overall, a pretty good hot dog, but I'm content with a plain hot dog.
My favorite meal of my Chicago trip! Sorry I tried another pizza on my last day in town instead of returning to Devil Dawgs! Very casual place, long and narrow. Not a whole lot of seating but I enjoyed eating in; I even got into a conversation with my neighbors about pickles. Speaking of pickles, you get a nice big spear on the dog, along with all the other Chicago stuff. Fries also were excellent and so was the chocolate-banana-malt shake! I know it's not health food but you gotta try it once in awhile. (Guess I'm lucky I don't live in Chicago or I'd be hitting Devil Dawgs way too often...)
Can't come to Chicago and not grab a hot dog- so we stopped in for a quick bite. It's a small location with a handful of tables. Cashless transactions with self serve kiosks for ordering makes it easy if you're looking for a quick in and out meal. No public restrooms - which is kinda odd. We ordered a Chicago dawg, a Polish sausage and cheese fries and we were not disappointed.
My friends and I decided that our last bite in Chicago had to be a Chicago-style hot dog. We decided to go to Devil Dawgs because it was within walking distance and a spot none of us had tried. The restaurant has sufficient seating, but it is quite narrow, so I suggest getting takeout if you are not a fan of tight, potentially crowded places. We placed our orders at a kiosk near the entrance, which was easy to use and had plenty of pictures. I can't rate the service since my friend was the one who primarily interacted with the staff, but I will say they were super efficient, and our food came out pretty quickly. FOOD: Big Chicago Dawg (4.55/5) - Opted for this one over a 'regular' Chicago dog because we were interested in the jumbo spicy Vienna sausage. It came with the toppings that are traditionally on a Chicago-style dog: tomatoes, a pickle spear, peppers, mustard, white onions, and neon green relish. Surprisingly, it did not come with a poppy seed bun, which I thought was a characteristic of a Chicago-style hot dog. I did slightly enjoy this one more than the jumbo hot dog I got at Portillo's (probably due to its sausage being better), but this one was considerably pricier. Icelandic Dawg (3.75/5) - Got this because my coworker was raving about the hot dogs he had in Iceland. I have no idea what a hot dog in Iceland entails, but this one had a ton of crispy onions and shallots on top. While I'm not sure what the sauce it had was, it tasted like honey mustard and mayo mixed together. To me, this hot dog was milder in flavor and lacked depth compared to the Big Chicago Dawg... maybe I am just a really big fan of pickles and yellow mustard. Tater Tots (4/5) - Tasted like most tater tots I encountered. Who doesn't like a compact fried potato cylinder? Nicely salted and crispy, but nothing out of the ordinary. Your standard good tater tot. TLDR// Solid place to get a Chicago-style hot dog from my perspective (a tourist). The spot is a little narrow, but that's not a big deal. I would come back for yummy food and a general good time.
As someone who is primarily vegetarian/pescatarian and limits dairy due to health, humanitarian, and environmental reasons, I confess that I gave into trying Devil Dawgs and don't regret it. So if you are going to fulfill a greasy, guilty pleasure, lolz, you can be a bit less guilty by going here, as it's a local business sourcing from local farmers. This place is also more affordable than Five Guys and other burger joints. Because I'm an East Coaster who likes ketchup and dijon mustard on hotdogs, I would not recommend the Chicago style hotdog unless you just wanted to try one for the first time. I'd try one of their other options. Friendly staff that have the fastest turnaround of any eatery in the neighborhood thus far. Shakes, so many to chose from. read more

While in Chicago, we wanted to hit all the Chicago styled foods, including hot dogs. We choose this shop simply based on the fact that it was closest to the area we were going to be for the day and the other great reviews. We stopped in on a Tuesday around lunch time and it was packed! The place is pretty small to begin with, not a lot of tables but a lot of orders were to go anyway. The line runs down the length of the counter and even though there were several folks ahead of us, it moved really quick. Pretty much just enough time to decide what we wanted and for me to stalk out a seat. They are hella efficient here. On to the dogs- I had the Bacon Cheddar Dog. Very good!! My bf had the Taco Dog which was my second choice. I tried his as well and almost liked it better than my own. If only we lived closer, I could try them all! read more
First time visiting Chicago and I'm already in love with the hot dogs.. We had the regular one and the Chicago dog, both were delish! The tatter tots are pretty crispy, the chicken strips are a bit dry though. The shake is definitely big enough for for 2 people. read more

Service was very good. Very friendly! For the price I was expecting a larger hotdog. They are regular size. I recommend ordering two to fill you up. The Chicago dog didn't come with tomatoes or poppy seeds bun. For the price, I expected a larger size. Bucket of fries with cheese was enough for 6 people. Nothing special. Chili dogs are exactly the same as Portillo's restaurant. We took a bite of the hotdog, we were literally pulling the meat off the sleeve. They serve every to go, even if you are dining in. I'm a big skeptic when it comes to hotdogs because I've had negative experiences in the past but when they are done right, I love them! This place is so good, my boyfriend & I went twice on our trip to Chicago & it did not disappoint. The service is fast & staff is very friendly. Ambiance gives off a local vibe & it felt good! This spot is absolutely the best in their rendition of the "chgo dog"! All ingredients are fresh......all of it. Small spot, food is exceptional. Their fresh fries with lightly seasoned salt are close to perfection....not overstating......nope......lolol.. Let me reiterate the spot is small..and you might have a hard check that, you WILL have a hard time...but be patient.....grab a seat once avl and enjoy a wonderful hotdog...... read more

Hard to choose an option when the style of hot dog you're wanting is the name of your city :) Wanted a Chicago dog. I have passed this place many times since moving down South. It's not disappointing. Best eaten fresh. The food has flavor and they don't skimp out on providing a full service. The server at the front even gave me a side of cheese sauce for free!! I got the Chicago dog with fries, an order of rings and cheese sauce. I actually picked this up from the spot, and I usually don't do that. I like to eat my food fresh. But regardless of that, the onion rings still had a crunch, the dog was topped perfectly with everything and ingredients were pretty fresh for both the speed of service and $$$. Came in here while waiting 1.5 hours for pizza down the street. SO GLAD WE DID!!! My husband got the taco dog and added an egg. I got the Chicago polish. The meat was super good quality, they don't skimp on the toppings at all! Though having bigger hot dogs would've been nice given that they are pricey! But still worth it! We also got an Oreo shake which was thick and creamy! There isn't much seating for the poppin' delicious establishment unfortunately, so get in, where you can fit in, you'll be glad you did! Didn't know what to expect from a Chicago dog. Quite different from the hot dog I'm used to. Bread was a bit chewy the dog was light flavored more flavor from the condiments. Overall taste was not bad. Ambiance was like a tiny store No service since it's counter order and take out. read more

Stopped for a quick lunch. The onion rings were my favorite part of my meal. They had a nice crunch without too much breading. The bun on my Chicago dog crumbled under the toppings and didn't have poppy seeds which was disappointing - it felt like a cheap wonder bun. Very small joint with just a few tables. read more

Flavor was great but soggy soggy SOGGY. oh, and did I mention it was SOGGY?! My husband and I were visiting from Dallas and wanted a good chicago dog but to our disappointment it was an epic fail for the following reasons: 1. No public restrooms. Not even for a paying customer 2. Soggy bun (with NO poppy seeds) even though we dined in and opened it immediately upon receiving it. If you're debating on whether to visit or not, I HIGHLY do NOT recommend coming or wasting your Uber fare to this place. Go elsewhere!! You'll thank me later. read more

I ate the vegan Dawgs!!! This place is hot dog heaven. The varieties along with the shakes, onion rings, fries, sauces, absolutely amazing. I had the Natali vegan and if that was my last meal, I would die happy. If you're in Chicago and you love hot dogs, meat or vegetarian, you're crazy if you don't go here! read more

Trying the Big Chicago $7.75 this is only the hotdog the French fries are not include or can soda total was the cost $15.35 The only reason was the service they provided was not very welcoming or even seems to care if I was there to eat into I had to approach them to get my order going !! First time coming here. Me and my girlfriend were fighting about where to go eat after a movie, she wanted to go to Chopsticks and I didn't want to go there at all. Devil Dogs popped up as a suggestion and there was no going back. We came in at 8pm And this place was packed. Then again it was a Saturday night. The place looks busy upon arrival. The chefs were constantly having their hands full with tasks. We were thankful to find a seat. We waited a while for our food and we can understand the wait. The guy who took our order was very nice and courteous. He kept calling me "boss" which flattered me. I got a morning slider and fries while my girlfriend got this specialty hot dog thingy ( I can't think of what it's called) and a pineapple shake. I actually tried her food while waiting for my food because I was staring at the enormous selection of food/drink options provided on the menu for a period of time. The hot dog and her shake were delicious. I got my food afterward and that was amazing as well. I'm very satisfied with the food, service, experience etc. I highly recommend this place to everyone! Even my girlfriend says the same thing. If you're vegan, no worry they got options for that too. They even have Green River in a bottle! The prices are phenomenal for a place in the city. They have a few locations they are open REALLY late. read more

It was a cool place and it is open now to customers. As far as the food goes a little disappointing. Food was made fresh but was cold for some reason. The French fries soggy and not fresh. The Milk Shake was Delicious def will come back for a shake no food tho. Service was ok, but times are hard they should be nice to the customer. read more
Always enjoy coming to this and the Wicker park location. I def miss the original location under the Fullerton L Train( a lot of you never got to experience that location ), but these are just as good. Came when it was busy, little bit of a wait but worth it. Got the peppermint holiday shake, sweet and delicious! Pricing I feel is reasonable and the bag of fries or tots are huge! Table room is limited and parking can be tough, but its worth coming by if you are in the area! read more
Lots of variety on the menu. But I don't think there's enough balance for the flavor. The best one was the coney dog and the fries were good. The service took a while, we did order a few dogs but with 3 people behind the counter I thought it'd be a little faster. I suppose it isn't meant to be family friendly - but the music of choice was VERY explicit for a Thursday afternoon. Perhaps that's the vibe their going for though.
