Alright, let's bring this one all down the line to the current: I'm going to let the music do the talking. For every visit where I've checked in here over the past five years, I've probably forgot to on a 1:1 ratio. I'm somewhere in the ballpark of 40 check ins here, which should give you an idea as to how we feel about DAT. Not a whole lot we haven't seen here over that time. Masks, menu changes, trivia night, music trivia night, brunch, lunch, etc. There are three keys that run throughout. 1. Hands on owner. Nate is very present in some capacity almost every time we're here. Nothing he won't do from seating, bussing, food running to turning the Yankees on a nearby TV for a fellow fan :) 2. The randomness of the music being played. Anything from 60's to 90's rock, occasional R&B, maybe some disco or my favorite from last Wednesday at lunch, Yacht Rock. Nothing goes down smoother than hard cider with grilled cheese and goulash and a side of the Admiral himself, Michael McDonald. Fantastic vibe and hang here every time. 3. The consistency of the menu. The short rib goulash and any of the soup renderings are fantastic. Past that, house made tots, wings, burgers, crab cakes, beef on Weck, links, perogies. It's all so damn good, even though I think the secret weapon is the seafood. Anything done here with crab, shrimp or the seasonal scallop specials are guaranteed winners. I guess to keep 'em honest, if there's one small ding I could bring up it's the pricing. Admittedly, some of the menu offerings are on the higher end of the spectrum but then again, the quality is there and so is the consistency. You get what you pay for. It's a 40-45 minute each way hike to come here and as long as they keep doing what they've been doing here since the beginning, in the immortal words of the prophet Randy Newman: "We're gonna ride it till we just can't ride it no more." read more

Decided to give them a try for my birthday dinner. I ordered crab cakes and they were awful. Full of filler and peppers and super dry. They also came with corn salad which was flavorless. My husband got the fish & chips which was overcooked and dry. The disco fries did not have curds - just a big lump of hard cheese. Disappointing at best. read more

The Devil Made Us Do It! Popped into Devil's Acre for lunch today, located right along Easton Rd in Doylestown. The place has a good-sized dining area with booths, high tops, and bar seating. The staff was warm, welcoming, and impressively patient with my million questions about the "daily specials." Devil's Acre rotates deli, dog, salad, tot, and soup options each day - definitely ask what kind of mischief the chef is up to before ordering. After some back-and-forth, I played it safe (?) with the Fried Chicken Sandwich while he went with the Beef on Weck. We started with the pretzel bites, which turned out to be a bit of a disappointment - six small pieces with a lackluster dipping sauce. Wouldn't recommend. Unfortunately, the main event didn't redeem things. My chicken sandwich was underwhelming, small, and it could've used a good pounding to actually fit the bun. The beef had decent flavor but was begging for an au jus to take it to the next level. Both sandwiches came with chips, want fries instead? That's not just an up charge - it's a full side order, and you lose the chips in the process. All in, lunch set us back nearly $60 with tip, and we left feeling underfed in both flavor and value. Food was ok. I had the Pork Schnitzel with grilled asparagus and cucumber salad. The way it was served was kind of weird. I generally like my food separated on a plate. But the pork was plopped on top of the asparagus which made it extremely hard to cut with a butter knife. My husband had two links with spatzle and gravy. He wasn't impressed. The place is loud. Service was slow. We were able to place our drink and food order all at the same time because of how long it took for a service to get to us. When our food was brought out, our server came over to make sure we were ok with it and we had to request more drinks. That was the last time we saw our server until she noticed we were done eating and asked if we wanted our check. I don't think we will be back any time soon. read more

Absolutely love it here. The owner is originally from WNY which would explain the beef on weck, the Sahlen's hot dogs (which are far superior to any other hot dog on this planet.) The staff is very friendly. Have been here a number of times brunch, lunch, dinner you name it. As a woman originally from the WNY area this hits close to home and makes me in a way feel like I am right back in Buffalo. Enough about that, let's get to the tasty deets. For appetizers you cannot go wrong with the pretzel bites and cheese sauce. The buffalo tots are so good! You really cannot go wrong with anything here. 3 or 4 stars - prices are very high for "wursts", hot dogs and a $10 burger. Entrees are well above $20. My chopped salad was good and fresh, however for $15 I would have appreciated more than a bowl of romaine. There were a few (delicious - house made?) croutons and barely any tomatoes and cukes. It as $15 for a huge side salad. Proteins were extra. Alot extra. $8 for chicken, $12 for shrimp. Um - $27 - nope. Can't do it. So I ate a big-ass bowl of lettuce. My friends ordered burgers, dogs and sides - the asparagus was amazing (I had 2 bites) and the fried rice (Side is $8) had a bit of a kick to it. Ok. This is a golden secret in Bucks County. We decided to sit at the bar to order Saturday afternoon lunch. What an absolute delight! Q. Our bartender was so engaging and made our cocktails to the T! Appetizer and Lunch were very satisfying For our cocktails we had goose and juice , Bloody Mary and Grapefruit Radler. We have a warm Kielbasa dip within crusting. Can you say YUM! We then ordered the Beef on Weck with. German potato salad side. Really tummy filling. Stopped for a quick dinner. Had a Beer for $9 and it was not even a pint. Was looking to get a chicken caesar salad But they were $24 so I got a thrasher burger. Burger was good but small. We have enjoyed many drinks and meals here. Our server was a young man, possibly new. He was friendly but I was concerned about our order details. When the meals came my order was for a short rib gilled cheese, it came out a full short rib dinner. It looked delicious but there was no way I could tackle this meal. He apologized took it back to the kitchen and returned with the information that my sandwich would be ready in 25 minutes. My husband had already started his meal, I said that would be too long of a wait. He canceled the sandwich, there were no other suggestions, no senior staff to help, no comp. First visit a success! Try the app that has steak fries with truffle.oil and shaved parmesan cheese. The rest of the food was a step above pub fare, with some delicious German food offerings as well as American. My beer-drinking companions were please with the offerings. My martini was just ok. Best recommendation I can give? I left my wallet on the table, full of cash and credit cards. Stopped by today and caught the tail end of happy hour. While waiting for my friend I had a chance to take in the decor and enjoy the restaurant's industrial chic style. I love the finishes used throughout the dining area. There were large glass windows and a very cool garage style door that opens the bar area to the outside. If like to see what it looks like opened up on a day with less rain. We ordered off the happy hour bar menu. The skewers were an Interesting combo of Home made pretzels, kielbasa, gouda, and hard boiled egg topped with paprika. The pretzel was more of a sweet fried dough then a savory pretzel but it all worked together. The burger was smothered in thousand island dressing and topped with cheese, lettuce, onion and tomato. It was a good burger especially at the $5 happy hour price. The bar had a nice selection of beers, ciders and some non alcoholic family friendly options. We had an okay meal here this weekend. I do have to say the staff were really nice which I always appreciate! I had the "Veruca Salt" cocktail, which was pretty average. My husband had a bourbon cocktail and he really liked it. I also had a sour beer on tap. Food-- Pierogies were mushroom and swiss, but they were very bland. Could barely taste the mushroom and could not taste the swiss. Poutine should not be waffle fries but I wanted to try them anyway. The beef gravy tasted very sweet, like caramelized onions. It wasn't a savory beef gravy like it should be. We got the 2 for $25 burgers, and those were good! No complaints about those. They don't come with any sides, though. We got my daughter chicken fingers and fries. The chicken was overcooked--probably in the fryer a good minute too long. Almost burnt. She maybe ate a couple bites of the chicken. But her waffle fries were great and she ate almost all of them. We drove almost 30 minutes to get here and I don't think I'll be back. read more

Devil's Acre Tavern is a very attractive reuse of an old roadhouse along Easton Road (Rt. 611), Plumsteadville, PA. It takes it name from the nearby Devil's Half Acre, originally a stone tavern built in the 18th Century close on the Delaware River that sold alcohol and other services to the river traffic navigating upstream and down in a time the the river was the primary means of transportation in this part of colonial America. In fact, they had no license to make nor sell alcohol, and the joint was a place where violence and shady characters abounded. Legend and history say there were many people killed there and buried in the backyard. Perhaps, to lessen the reliance on that unsavory history, the name was chosen without the word "Half," but the connection is not lost on those aware of these facts. Still, it appears often enough in the menu and on the walls of the establishment to hint at the local lore. Luckily, this house is totally legit. Ownership has created an attractive utilitarian space, German American in nature, with excellent cross section of Deutsch brews, quality cocktails, reasonable happy hour choices and a strong kitchen. We stopped in on Saturday afternoon at the start of HH, and thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience. After a little confusion with our new server about availability of happy hour and where to sit to capture those prices, everything was resolved quickly and we waited for delivery to our dining room table of Three Onion Soup, Dragon Wings and Pierogi of the Day apps/sides, and two DHA Burgers and a DHA Dog. Everything was very good to terrific. My stepson wouldn't share his potage, so it must have been great. We all sampled the wings @$.50 per. They were not too big, but were amply meaty with a good sweet/hot glaze with sesame seeds sprinkled on top. The pierogi were the weak link. The dough was thick, too chewy and dominated the flavor of the seasoned veggies within. Ate one and took the rest home. Maybe sour cream would have helped. The burgers were huge with double patties, bacon, lettuce, red onion, and their DHA sauce. Both were past the medium well finish requested, but there was still plenty of flavor and moisture. I loved the double dog with chopped red onion, dark mustard and well done bacon in a fresh crisp torpedo roll. Great taste and texture. @$5 HH price it was a star of the show. Devil's Acre Tavern is a 35 minute drive from home, but when in the mood for German beer and cuisine it is well worth the trip. Tuesday Burger Night sounds like a winner, too. read more

We went to the bar (guys) and ordered drinks with a less then half full bar and three people behind the bar and I had to just about stand on my head to get a bartender to take my bar order. I love this place so much. It's off the beaten path so it's a little hard to just come across, but I can tell you right now that it is 100% worth it to go out of your way to eat here. Their food is insanely delicious. From the schnitzel to the short rib with the squash risotto. I could go on and on, but you need to just try it for yourself. The food was reasonably good. Unfortunately, they lost us at dessert. It took a full 30 minutes for the dessert (ice cream and pudding) to arrive after they cleared our dinner plates. They kept apologizing and saying it was coming, but 30 minutes for dessert is simply not acceptable and rather disappointing (ice cream...how long could it take to scoop?). The staff and the owner were very attentive, and even though they had a minor issue with the ordering system, they addressed it immediately and made it right! The owner, Nathan, was very approachable, and great to talk with. The menu was pleasingly eclectic, with American style and German flair. The spaetzle is a must try side dish that really hits the mark! The food is above par for a pub style restaurant, with offerings you might not expect at such reasonable prices.
