Stopped in a grabbed a number 2. Ingredients were good and tasty, sandwich was pretty messy, but worth it. Bread was a little overly toasted, but still good. Service was fast and friendly. The shop could definitely have a makeover, but that's what gives it its unique character.

I ordered the No. 1 pulled pork. It is one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. Truly excellent. Very moist. The mix of pork and slaw is perfect.

Sandwich spots in Portland are everywhere, but where are the elite ones? Welp, found one right here. I only had the turkey one with the tomato jam. I mean the bread? Like come on. I've said this before... the most underrated and overlooked part of a Sammie is the bread. These guys got it. The tomato jam? Almost marinara but like not? It was so fresh and unique. There are other sandwiches that I will be getting at some point. Not nearly big enough but still it's worth it. (4.8 Stars)

It was easy to find street parking. There are no tables inside, only 2 benches to wait for your order. There are 4 small picnic tables (that can seat up to 4 people) outside. We got 2 half orders of seitan & tuna sandwiches. Both were good. The seitan sandwich was drenched in oil, however, which made it hard to pick up and eat.

I picked up lunch for myself and a couple friends right when they opened at noon. The phone started ringing with more call-in orders immediately, so this seems like a popular spot. I ordered four sandwiches (and only got pics of three). The total came out to ~$50 or ~$12.50 per sandwich. You order at the counter and, while there are two small picnic tables outside, mostly the sandwiches are to go. Overall I thought they were good sandwiches - filling, good flavors, and a variety of options on the menu.

Pretty good takeout sandwiches. Good bread and fillings, but be prepared... The kale {on most of the sandwiches by default) is dinosaur kale. The very chewy type. Also I didn't like the potato salad but that's really subjective. Quick friendly service. This is a takeout place so they have a few small tables out on Hawthorne but not a very cozy place to sit. Overall solid takeout sandwiches.

This place came highly recommended by a great friend, and it did not disappoint. Our sandwiches were absolutely out of this world. The staff also took the time to check in after we finished eating, showing genuine interest and pride in the food they were preparing behind the counter. Overall, it was a 10 out of 10 experience, and we also really enjoyed the decor inside. I guess the devil must really like his dill!

Got the braised beef sandwich. Sooo good!! I definitely want to try a different one next time. The bread was so soft. Delicious!

Ask the Community - Devil's Dill Sandwich Shop

Is there dine-in or strictly outside?

Strictly outside. There's bench type of seating inside but it was really only used for individuals to comfortably wait for their order to be handed over.

Entering the shop, you will be greeted by loud music. Be ready for that. You will have the option to dine outside, if the weather provides it and the seats are empty. The hosts are wonderful and very accepting with a positive attitude. Smiles and all. I ordered the Jim because it was the only sandwich I could eat. The majority of the sandwiches contain meat, so I would not recommend this for vegans or pescatarians. Jim was delicious and I consumed both halves of Jim flawlessly. Either hunger overruled me, or the sandwich was that satisfying. I do recommend the shop, but with limited options for non-meat eaters, I truthfully would rate Lottie and Zulas, 4.5. Yet, I don't believe the spot was "good."

We also had the Vinny which was fine, a bit spicier than I thought it would be, but I'm a wimp. The service was fine, not overly friendly but adequate. The food is 4 stars, the service 3 starts, but the real bummer was all the plastic. Plastic container, plastic cups and we were eating in. They asked if it was to go and we said no, but everything came in plastic anyway. The ambiance is quintessential Portland, right up until they bring all your food in plastic with plastic silverware to boot.

A little bit of heat, very filling and a nice crunch. They need to make this an item on the menu. I got the YOLKO ONO. Their signature dish. Fried egg*, homemade pesto, and a hand-pressed house sausage patty. Recommend by the staff - I will come back and get this again. The pesto, buttery, savory combo... chefs kiss.

When the food came out, I was a bit disappointed. My Sriracha sandwich looked identical to the Yolko Ono. I waited too long for my sandwich and didn't want to send it back and wait some more so I just ate it and didn't complained. The sausage patty was a bit dry in both sandwiches and the egg was cooked over medium. The yolk didn't drip like it had did in the past. It creates less of a mess when you're eating but it's not quite the same. This location has a few 2-person tables and 2 large communal table that you can share with other people. We originally sat the the communal table but when a 2-person table because available, we moved over.
