Here is the thing - do I really need to write a review to say how good their sandwiches are - when I ordered one just to talk it home after having brunch already at their restaurant? We initially came in and was met by a "closed for the day" sign and was immediately disappointed. But, slowly yet surely we watched as people went up to the truck one by one to pick up their meals.. it wasn't clear at all whether they were closed or not. After moments of standing and hanging around since we weren't able to catch the attention of the people inside, we decided to ask the people getting their order if they were actually open and they assumed they were just backed up. This seemed to be the case since 30-45 minutes later, we checked back again and they were taking orders. I'd definitely suggest just having a different sign that doesn't say "closed for the day" since it took away a bit from our experience. There were a couple of other parties who showed up with confusion like us, and ended up just leaving. Fortunately we planned to eat at another food stall in the area so it was convenient that we noticed them open back up! I ordered their signature "Yolko Ono" which comes with their fried egg, pesto, and sausage patty. The pesto was definitely spread on with a heavy hand, which unfortunately made the sandwich super salty. Apart from that, the bread was tasty, egg yolk was oozing the way it's known to be, and the sausage was flavorful! Perhaps we came at a not-so-great time to visit but I'd definitely recommend visiting regardless since they're such an iconic Portland food stall. I've loved Fried Egg for yeeeears. This is my favorite location because it's right by a pod that has caffeine and alcohol and there's plenty of seating. We usually come here after grabbing caffeine so we can wake up while we wait. I get the yolko ono and add the holy aioli and havarti. The bf got the free range against the machine without cheese. This place is incredibly popular and incredibly busy, but they get through the volume quickly. They are efficient, and we don't mind the wait when we already have coffee and understand the time commitment (it's worth it). These are the best breakfast sammies, they're consistent, piping hot, and I try to go at least once every time I'm in town.
