We ordered delivery and the pot pie meal looked amazing. It reminded me of a banquet frozen pot pie if that. I had top crust, no bottom crust. Cubed tiny squares of chicken and the same congeal sauce inside with peas, carrots, etc. opened the box to flat. Oh well potatoes and gravy ok, okra ok. The online menus are very misleading. This place was very well advertised, but really pulled up short in its expectations! We could barely find the front door as it was well camouflaged. It's very confusing as they are a movie theater, game arcade, shopping stalls and somewhere there was a restaurant in there. We entered at 3:00.... Not a lot of people there. The hostess finally seated us (she seemed like it was a burden) with menus. The waitress showed up and took our drink order. Came back with our drinks and asked if we were ready to order (less than a minute). We did ask for another minute. That's the last time we saw her. She got a large group behind us. The two previous time we went service was not so good. Tonight we had great service from Laronda. She kept our drinks full and followed up several times during our meal. They have updated the restaurant and added an adult beverage area/interior patio. We will return again. read more

reviews on this were mixed, but was close to our hotel so decided to give it a try. friend & i decided to try the fried green 'maters app. they were cut thin - which i prefer - with tasty, not too heavy breading. they were cooked through and yummy. for entrees i ordered the summer porch fried chicken and asked for green beans & creamed corn instead of sides listed. i got white meat, and it was a bit dry, but white is frequently a bit drier. the breading was light, crisp and tasty. green beans were very good, nicely seasoned. creamed corn was good also, tasted like just corn, butter and cream. not too heavy or too sweet. friend had open faced roast beef sammie, with mashed potatoes & green beans. she liked the sandwich, meat was tender, gravy was good - not heavy - didnt taste canned or like it started life as a powder. mashed potatoes had "lumps" which we both prefer - so they werent instant. cornbread was very good as well. although restaurant is in a "mall", it had a nice interior, casual. there was also a bar. service was very good. no complaints. read more

So the restaurant we planned to eat at turned out to be closed so we wound up at McFarlain's. They weren't very busy so we got right in and seated right away. All the staff were very friendly and efficient. The place was pretty clean and the decor was kind of Midwest meets Deep South.... On to the food. It was all pretty good. I had the McFarlain's Special Sandwich, which was an open faced pot roast sandwich with mashed potatoes and brown gravy. Others had soup and salad and meatloaf. We took a Traffic Jam pie to go, which turned out to be delicious. The four star rating may be just a bit of a stretch, really the rating is probably around 3.5 stars, but they deserved rounding up not down based on the overall experience. read more

Hats off for Derrick filling in on a Thanksgiving week but no clue of the menu, specials and shortages of cranberry sauce, gravy and several other items. Plus we just wanted a Pecan Pie to go and it was another major hassle. Good news was that they were able to seat a large table of Ten but even the tiniest of observations would have indicated a very large ticket. This place is a homestyle cooking restaurant similar to what you would find in a big truck stop. This was my parents choice, they are 80 years old. They like menu items like pot roast, meatloaf, and chicken pot pie. I'm not big on these types of things so take my review with a grain of salt. My father and I ordered the chicken pot pie because the waitress said it was amazing. It was not. The crust looks like it might be flaky, but it was not and the chicken pot pie was bland. They serve it with mashed potatoes and your choice of corn or green beans. I asked for creamed corn and can report that the creamed corn was actually the best part of the meal. My mom ordered a BLT which came with an abundance of bacon on Texas toast. She ordered well. We also ordered their famous cornbread with honey butter and it was just OK. A bit dry. We ordered one blackberry cobbler to split and it came out piping hot except the kind of hot that comes when you reheat in the microwave. The crust was soggy and the interior was like molten lava, was gloopy and did not appear to be made with fresh blackberries. All in all, I would say "meh." We used to eat at McFarlains often. We hadn't been there since the pandemic, so decided to go back, as we were in the area. I don't know what has happened. The cornbread used to be like cake. It was the best I had ever had. Today, it was horribly dry as if it had set out for days. I had the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes. I have visited this restaurant in Branson for many years now and I always love coming back. Their pricing is a little bit higher, but they only have one menu. I like their cornbread and chicken a lot. I usually go for one of their chicken fried steaks / chicken when I visit, but this time I tried their fish and chips. It was really good. We had a very nice meal here. First, they brought two pieces of cornbread w a scoop of butter. Just right for cornbread-- not too much sugar and it was moist. I had the Pioneer Pot Roast and my wife had the Strawberry Salad. My dinner tasted great-- meat was tender w a little brown gravy. Very little fat in meat which was very good. Had mashed potatoes and green beans ( bacon and a little onion) just like the picture in the menu. Mashed potatoes were good w traditional brown gravy. My wife enjoyed her salad and the strawberry dressing was a welcome change for her. Note that the dressing seemed to have a strawberry yogurt base to it. We split a piece of "Branson Traffic Jam" pie-- strawberry, cherry, rhubarb w vanilla ice cream. We highly recommend the pie. Service was good. My family and I went to Branson for a mini-vacation and we heard about McFarlain's so we thought we would give it a try. My very pregnant DIL, my wife, my grandson and I went into the restaurant and we were greeted right away by the hostesses and then were promptly seated. After that something seriously went wrong. We were there for 15 minutes and no one even acknowledged our existence and they seemed to be abundantly staffed because we counted at least 6 wait staff that looked at us and never even asked if we needed a drink or to see if we had ordered. So after 15 minutes, we all got up and left. On the way out the hostess was told we never were acknowledged and all she had to say was "sorry!" Not, "oh can we comp you a meal" or "how can we make it better?" Just nothing but "sorry!" Needless to say, we won't be back! If I could give it no stars...I would! read more

Great service. Able to accommodate 56 of us in a private dining area. The pot pie had an alright crust commented one person however the group rated it between 1 and 2 stars. My cat fish plate was ok. Nothing really stood out to make me say any more or less then this post. The group's overall rating of the restaurant was an average of 3 stars. There was some unpleasant comments about the settlement of the bill and all agree the way the restaurant handled it was described as unorganized. When we checked in, we were told the wait time was 20-30 minutes. We decided to stay but ended up waiting around 45 minutes. When we were finally sat, there were so many empty tables! Clean tables everywhere! This is incredibly frustrating to see when you've just waited 45 minutes for seemingly no reason. I don't know if they were short on staff or what but this aspect was ridiculous. I ordered the chicken pot pie which was delicious. The crust was flaky and so good. My food was served piping hot which I love. I had the mashed potatoes and gravy and fries ( I know I know...2 potatoes but I don't like green beans). These were good too. This has been a favorite of ours for many years. We have almost always eaten one of their legendary specialties-the pot pie, fish, etc. These meals have always been delicious, and I am sure they still are. However, this trip we decided to have a lighter lunch so we could enjoy a piece of their pie, also. (As some of you know, it is extremely easy to overeat in Branson. ) I ordered a soup and sandwich combo. The soup lived up to expectations. But the sandwich was not even mediocre. It had such a small piece of ham I had to hunt for it. This was 1/2 a sandwich , and the meat was part of a thin slice of deli ham. It had an oversized piece of lettuce and a too thickly slice of tomato. It was not even close to a poorly made homemade sandwich. It should have been almost a work of art at the price they charged.
