This place is my go to whenever I have catfish craving so it disheartens me to only give 2 stars. During the summer, I went in and got my usual catfish and yellow rice (yum) . As I start to eat I realize there is a hair stuck in the batter of my catfish (noooooooooooo). I mean I was so in denial that it was a human hair, I asked my girlfriend out-loud, if it was hair from the catfish(don't do that, I know its silly). After finally coming to terms with it , I didnt want to announce to the restaurant, that hair was in my food. I put the catfish in a tissue and went to the back and let them know. The mans reactions was super nonchalant. Then he got another man that asked me what was on my plate and went to make me another one. Im sure you can understand why I wouldn't want another order because the BATTER had hair in it. I walked up to the front, annoyed at this point and not caring who hears my complaint and the lady that i think owns it just let me know that another order was coming. I couldnt believe I wasn't given an apology or offered my money back ( I had ordered two orders and my girlfriend couldn't finish hers because of the hair). After seeing the hair , I did not want any more food from Devins, so i simply got up and left. Now i just walk past Devins no matter how much I get a craving for catfish. :( read more

First off, I've had every fish spot in Harlem & Devins is the best period. It's a mom & pop take out, hole in the wall, get it & go kinda spot & that's how a fish "spot" is supposed to be. The place should & does feel a little greasy. No cornmeal, beer battered stuff here. Just fried whiting, shrimp, catfish & calamari with seasonings & good old flour!!! THE RIGHT WAY! The broiled salmon & talapia with garlic & butter is outta this world!!! My girlfriend is a pure blooded real Dominican woman with a critical palette & even she raves over the spanish rice with the olives. Its that good! The fries have a very limp & soft potatoey texture with the skin on & I love that! (I like fries of all textures if they're good). I even love the lightly seasoned steamed broccoli & okra. Here, I'll make it simple . . If you're looking for a delicately light & less greasy seafood experience then don't go to Devins. But, if you want that roll up your sleeves, get your hands dirty & DIG IN kind of experience . . Look no further! They have way more menu choices & they make every meal fresh when you order it as opposed to 145th Famous Fish who's fish I used to swear by but Devins is better AND Famous Fish is not as good as they used to be. Not to mention Devin's dinner portions are big & sometimes they add an extra piece of fried fish by mistake I'm guessing lol. Everything they make is good so CHOW DOWN! 5 stars. read more

Wow. Just wow. I came in with my daughter on a lark to try it out. Took a bit to get it, which is fine since it was made to order. We got the standard fish and chips and shrimp and chips- didn't eat in but took it home which took about 25 minutes. I mention this because even despite steaming in the bag, the food was great and still crispy. Portions are pretty big. I have to give a shout out to the fish in particular. Well done all around- good enough where I think it's a place you should go if you happen to be near Sugar Hill for other reasons. This was the first and last time eating here. The fish was good but not well seasoned like Famous Fish but worst was the fries they were soggy and so full of grease that it left a pool in the bottom of the container and there was no bread given. The pictures on this sight isn't what I got. I'll stick with Famous Fish. read more

Nothing fancy, just really solid fish & chips. Good, fresh ingredients. Maybe not as good as Fishers of Men on 125th but still very good. Oh, and the fish & chips is 6 bucks. 6 bucks -- you couldn't get a filet 'o' fish value meal at McDonald's for that, and yet some yelpers will find something to complain about. If you live around the area or you're visiting, this and Charles Country Pan-Fried Chicken are the places to go. read more

They did raise their prices a bit in the last year, but they were ridiculously low to begin with, like $5 for fish and chips. So now it's $6.50 I think which is still pretty damn good for two pieces of fish and hand cut fries. Business seems to have slowed a bit as a result, but this is a good thing. I can remember times a few years ago where there would be a line going out the door on a friday night, AT LEAST a 20 minute wait for your food. I do agree with other commenters that whiting fillets are not the best choice for fish and chips, but all in all, the breading is good, the fries are great if you eat them there (they can get a bit soggy if you carry out, but you can mitigate the sogginess risk a bit by tearing open the wax paper and paper bag so they can breathe on the way home ) and the fried shrimp F-ing rock. The calimari can be a bit rubbery, and I would really prefer the shrimp breading instead of the plain breadcrumbs they coat the calamari with. All in all, Devin's is a solid choice for dinner in the hood, and without a doubt your best lunchtime option. PS if you are buying dinner for two, a large Fish Shrimp and chips is a great deal for $12 and will be more than enough for two. read more

The past post is incorrect. Devin's is open. I live across the street. Food there is awesome. Nothing even close in the neighborhood. You might call for delivery and get no answer just because it is 2 guys and they are busy as hell. Preparing awesome food takes precedence over business. Cooking like Mom but only better. Definitely take your food, to go you will definitely enjoy, anything grilled, frried or even steamed is deliciousue, my absolute favorite is the broiled tilapia, its motuhwatering! And let's not foget the sexy cook, very charming (ladies) get a lil eye candy while you wait! read more
